guys,

recently my car's check engine light turns On again. it happened few months ago and i got a mechanic who specialises honda car

in ubi area to fix it for $280 in 5 mins.  [knife]  i guess i want to try and get it fix somewhere else to see if i could get it done one and for all without having to be a carrot.

well, i'm driving an EK. when the engine light turns ON, sometimes it lost power on gear one. sometimes it works as fine. and

sometimes, it goes back to normal after i restart engine.  [hur]

this problem has been a few days. today, it just doesn't turn Off after i tried to restart. :a-bang:

all the good honda mec i know are located in the WEST, i wish not to travel that far to fix this.

TIA

since you spent  $280 for a 5 min job a few months ago,you should go back and tell the mechanic the recurrence of the problem and ask if he could do the same fix FOC . It is important to  understand what fix did he do previously. If he will to charge you another $280, then you have an option to look for other mechanics.

Like that also call good? I think your mechanic just plug in the obd device and clear the check engine light. He did not resolve the real issue at all. That's why the CEL will always come back. Wah, really? $280? You really kumgong. $280 can buy yourself a good obd device to read fault code, you know....ownself check ownself? Somemore you can say the mechanic is good. I salute you.

You need to find out what exactly is the error code to resolve the issue in your car. Turning off and on ignition doesn't  make the CEL go away. Don't be silly. If I'm not wrong possible issues are one of your air sensors or catalytic converter got issue. If not will be spark plugs or the seals around the spark plug need to replace. Other possible stuff might be the fuel pump. The error code will have the specific notification to determine the main cause. Stop going back to that workshop of yours.

I only know of Ubi area. Block 3007 should be Ubi road 1. I forgot the shop's name. You turn left into Ubi road 1 after the famous car sticker shop. You will be able to see a couple of car workshops that do old honda cars. Gotto ask around. I long time no go there.

like that ah..... maybe go back bang table (if sure its the same issue) but don't pay any more.

But I think better to go to a better workshop that is willing to explain the issue to u.

You just need to locate the obd plug-in. Use a obd scan tool to get the error code. Google together with your car's make and year you will be able to find out the fault.

Your old car obd I dunno what it looks like. Got "A,B ,C D".

Modern cars are simple.

Let me make a guess. EG/EK those era cars I think they like to tinker with the exhaust.

Modified original, remove cat converter,

There are two o2 sensors. One upstream near the exhaust and the other downstream, after the cat converter.

Since the cat converter can be missing, the two o2 sensor reads the same, and this triggers CEL.

The upstream o2 sensor is more important as It controls fueling and power.

The trick to disable CEL due to missing cat converter is to change the signal.

Some mech put spacer on the lower o2 sensor, some add capacitors/resistors to the signal.

Sometimes it work, sometimes it doesn't. So your CEL will come on and go off.

If your engine has other problem due to misfiring, it will also affect power output.

And also light up CEL.

The first thing to do is to check the code of the CEL, then you can work from there.

my car also now has a permanent engine light on sign. Its 9 years old. Trusted mechanic ran diagnostic and can only suggest spurious electronic signal. No effect on performance, in fact drove to KL last weekend.

Proposed permanent solution:

Poor thing to be con like that.  I think they only clear your DTC lor .....

Drive 2 standard cycles and see if it clear by itself lor.

Standard Cycle - Cold Start -> 65km/h for 10mins -> Stop -> Off.

or you should buy this :

Even if it is free, you should ask the mechanic what was the error. At times the mechanic may just clear the error to see if a problem would recur. Basing on your case , the error may come back again.

he said its the intake sensor and exhaust temp sensor that need attention.

will replace them if the check light turns on again.

if the CEL is lit again, you might want to look for the good Honda doctor at SKM Auto in the east.
