  1. Boutique American exotic car coach builder - Rezvani - unveiled the 'Beast' with design consultation by renowned and award winning automotive architect Samir Sadikhov - known for his projects such as the Ferrari Xezri and Aston Martin DBC concepts. Born on the track and designed for the road, the Rezvani Beast gives new meaning to the lightweight, high performance sports car with striking styling. Thanks to its Ariel Atom underpinnings, the Rezvani Beast is also available as an upgrade to owners of the current Ariel Atom track car. Beginning at the low-friction front fascia, the body lines extend out to create a streamlined appearance. Paired to angular rear panels, air flows over the car to provide maximum downforce at high speeds. From a six-speed manual transmission, to a rear-wheel drive layout, every inch of Beast is built with the driver in mind - raw, pure, and powerful. The Beast will also feature a fully removable windshield and a roll cage. Tipping the scales at just 703kg kerb weight, the Beast 500 can sprint from nought to century mark in 2.7 seconds powered by a 2.4-litre supercharged mid-mounted engine with up to 500bhp. The Beast 300 with 315bhp, weighs 666kg, and can hit the same mark in 2.9 seconds. Both engines are prepared by Ariel Atom specialists, DDM Works of South Carolina. Each car is made to order and delivery time is typically three to five months, depending on options and personalisation.

BMW celebrates three decades of the BMW M5

To mark the 30th anniversary of the BMW M5, the German marque has come up with a 300-unit limited version of the current F10 model. The BMW M5 '30 Jahre M5' (30 Years of the M5) develops 600bhp and peak torque of 700Nm from a 4.4-litre V8 engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology. This makes it not only the most powerful M5 model, but also the most powerful BMW automobile ever. The foundation for these upgrades was provided by the Competition Package which can be optionally ordered for the regular model. The Competition Package comprises modifications including a revised chassis set up with firmer spring/damper tuning and, among others, a 10mm reduction in ride height. The 30 Jahre M5 sprints from nought to century mark in a brisk 3.9 seconds. BMW believes its BMW Individual-inspired looks and numerous dynamics and comfort enhancing equipment details make this special edition a highly desirable collector's item. The special M5 is finished in a shade of Frozen Dark Silver metallic that is subtle yet stands out from the rest of the pack. The interior is focused squarely on celebrating the model's anniversary. The front occupants settle into the M multifunction seats, whose wide range of electrical adjustment gives them high standards of ergonomics and comfort. The cabin is adorned in materials including alcantara and leather in areas such as the seats, centre console and door panels. The M sports steering wheel is also trimmed in Alcantara Anthracite. One of the equipment highlights includes a premium surround sound system with a total of 16 speakers from either Harman Kardon or Bang & Olufsen with an output of 600W and 1,200W respectively.
  3. Cycle & Carriage France Pte Ltd, the local distributors for French marque, Citroen, is pleased to announce a full range of turbodiesel passenger cars that will remain under COE Category A classifications despite the previously announced tweak taking effect from the start of the month. The range includes the 1.6-litre e-HDi 115 EGS equipped C4 and C5 models and 1.6-litre e-HDi 115 ETG equipped DS4 and DS5. Joining the range would be the upcoming 1.6-litre e-HDi 115 ETG C4 Picasso and Grand C4 Picasso MPVs. Citroen's turbodiesel range promises to deliver drivers with key benefits - starting with a $15,000 Carbon Emissions-Based Vehicle Scheme (CEVS) rebate that is applicable across the full turbodiesel range. Furthermore, maintenance and fuel costs are reduced with Citroen's turbodiesel fleet - while not hindering mileage of up to 25km/L. The cars offer the highest torque delivery under Category A with 270Nm for a better drive and lower fuel consumption and the automaker assures the cars can be refuelled in Malaysia. The range of models are also equipped with Stop&Start technology for greater fuel savings and reduced carbon emissions. To top it off, Citroen offers a five year/100,000km warranty for all Citroen e-HDi turbodiesel models.

  7. The new Ford Focus ST made its global debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and the most advanced Focus ST yet offers new chassis control technologies, tuned suspension and steering, and bespoke tyre specification that ensure an even more responsive, balanced and refined driving experience. Also for the first time, the Focus Hot Hatch will be offered with the choice of two powerful engins powered by either petrol or diesel propellants. The first diesel Focus ST delivers the most fuel efficient and Ford performance car with the lowest emissions ever. A 2.0-litre TDCi produces 182bhp of power and 400Nm of torque from 2,000rpm to 2,750rpm, to accomplish the century sprint in 8.1 seconds and achieve a maximum speed of 217km/h. The diesel powered Focus ST returns 27.3km/L and 114g/km of CO2 emissions. The petrol power plant is no slouch either, as it is rated at 246bhp with 360Nm of torque available from 2,000rpm to 4,500rpm from the 2.0-litre EcoBoost, which accomplishes the century sprint in 6.5 seconds and maxes off at 247km/h. Both engines are married to a six-speed manual transmission and are also equipped with auto Start-Stop, for improved efficiency ratings. Ford Team RS, the award winning European arm of Ford's Global Performance Vehicle group, made improving the entire driving experience the number one objective for the new Focus ST. Additionally, Ford worked with Michelin to develop a new 19-inch tyre that complements the driving dynamics, especially maximising lateral grip. Ford has redesigned the interior for a more intuitive layout. A new, flat-base sports steering wheel with a soft-feel leather covered rim, a satin chrome-topped gear lever, and ST pedals deliver the interior that ST drivers expect. Driver assistance, convenience and connectivity technologies that will be introduced for the first time include the Ford SYNC 2 connectivity system. Available to order in Europe from autumn 2014, the first new Focus ST models are scheduled to be in dealerships from early 2015.

  9. For the fourth consecutive year, a Ferrari engine has triumphed in two categories of the prestigious International Engine of the Year Awards - Performance Engine of the Year and the Above 4.0-litre class. The winner on this occasion is the 4.5-litre V8 engine that equips the 458 Italia, the 458 Spider and, in its most powerful guise, the new 458 Speciale. The international judging panel included journalists from 35 nations and all praised the Ferrari V8's unassailable blend of sophisticated engineering, power, efficiency and, among others, its peerless soundtrack. The V8 won both awards for two years running in 2011 and 2012. Ferrari's award count is now an impressive eight in four years, including the naturally aspirated V12 in the critically acclaimed F12berlinetta receiving the same accolade in 2013.
  10. Aston Martin is unveiling an exceptional new addition to the hugely popular PlayStation 3 exclusive racing game Gran Turismo 6 (GT6) in the shape of the Design Prototype 100 (DP-100) Vision Gran Turismo. Developed in-house by the design team and led by Design Director Marek Reichman, DP-100 Vision Gran Turismo is a new, virtual-only GT racer that will be available for GT6 owners to download in July 2014. http://dai.ly/x20ldlh Starting with nothing but the traditional 'blank sheet of paper' approach, the design team and design engineers worked for six months to create a sports car that clearly pushes the boundaries of what an Aston Martin could be. Created utilising many of the same techniques as applied in the development of Aston Martin production sports cars - hand sketches and 3D modelling, followed by full realisation in the virtual world - DP-100 provides an exceptional level of detail with a fully functioning suspension system and state-of-the-art electronics. The twin-turbo V12 mid-engined racer offers up to 800bhp, endowing it with blistering performance fully in keeping with the high octane nature of the game. As with the CC100 Speedster Concept, much of the design cues visible in DP-100 could be featured in future sports cars. http://dai.ly/x20lbn2
  11. Toyota has unveiled the production-ready hydrogen powered Fuel Cell Sedan, following the car's appearance in concept guise at last year's Tokyo Motor Show. The car will be initially launched in Japan, before next April, while preparations are in hand for launches in the U.S. and European markets in the summer of 2015. In Japan, the Fuel Cell Sedan will be priced at approximately seven million Yen (S$85,740) and sales would initially be limited to parts of the country where a hydrogen refuelling infrastructure is under development. Hydrogen has great potential as an alternative fuel as it can be produced from a wide variety of primary energy sources, including solar and wind power. Also it is easy to store and transport and when compressed, it has a higher energy density than batteries. Its use can be expanded beyond automotive and domestic use, including large scale power generation. The new Fuel Cell Sedan delivers performance and a cruising range similar to that of a petrol powered vehicle, with a refuelling time no longer than three minutes. However unlike contemporary cars, Toyota's Fuel Cell Sedan emits nothing but water vapour.
  12. It seems Kimi Raikkonen might be leaving Formula One to pursue other forms of motorsports at the end of 2015, when his current contract with Ferrari expires. Over winter last year, Raikkonen signed a two-year deal with the fabled F1 team, but unlike his team mate, Fernando Alonso, Raikkonen has struggled for results in the ongoing season with just 19 points to his name from eight races. The media quizzed the 'Iceman' if he saw himself at Ferrari for a long time, to which he replied, "Until my contract is finished and then I will probably stop. That is what I think is going to happen." Raikkonen has expressed interest in driving in other series outside of F1, although he isn't sure where he would move on to next. "You always learn when you drive different things but the problem is that the teams are scared if we get hurt so there is a big conflict on that. In the past when I was at Ferrari I was allowed to do some rallies, and I thought it was a big help and I was doing well at the same time in Formula One. But every team is different," remarked Raikkonen. Well, with strong rumours persisting Ferrari is considering a Le Mans return from 2016, could Raikkonen remain at Ferrari - just donning the red overalls in a different pedigree of motorsports?
  13. Why does it look like the Halo Warthog with a canopy?
  14. The tradition of exclusive, performance-oriented Renaultsport models continues with the unveiling of a new limited edition Megane hot hatch - the Megane Renaultsport 275 Trophy. The chassis comes with limited slip differential as standard, while Renaultsport's engineers have managed to extract 10bhp more from its powerplant. The 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine now boasts 275bhp and a peak torque of 360Nm - available across 3,000rpm to 5,000rpm. Despite the power increase, fuel consumption and emissions have been carefully contained to stand at 16.0km/L and 174g/km of CO2 emissions respectively. The 275 Trophy is standard fitted with a light Akrapovic titanium exhaust system, which features a specific, more raucous bark that is sure to appeal to those who appreciate sporty engine notes. The limited edition car can also be specified with optional adjustable Ohlins dampers with steel springs, which allows drivers to adjust their damper settings without a fuss. Also available as an option are Michel Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres - a product of joint collaboration between Michelin and Renaultsport - specifically for the new limited edition front-wheel drive car. Inside, the drivers are settled on leather and Alcantara adorned Recaro bucket seats with red stitching. The same hue of stitching has been carried over to the rear bench seat, while the headrests feature Renaultsport badging. Other interior highlights include red stitching for the Alcantara steering wheel trim and handbrake gaiter, as well as an alloy gear lever knob. The new halo model of the Megane nameplate is set to make its U.K. debut at the upcoming Goodwood Festival of Speed in June, before it goes on sale in 20 countries worldwide.
  15. The all new Subaru WRX STI has been awarded the well regarded 'Top Safety Pick' status by the U.S.A's Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS). The accolade is the highest possible vehicle safety ranking awarded by the IIHS, a not-for-profit organisation which is supported by car insurers there. Subjected to five different types of IIHS crash test designed to evaluate occupant protection in the event of a collision, the new Subaru WRX STI earned the top rating of 'Good' in all categories, thereby fulfilling the criteria required of any 'Top Safety Pick'. The IIHS crash tests include high-speed front and side crash tests, a rollover test, and evaluations of seat and head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts. The organisation also conducts the demanding 'small overlap front test'. The test replicates a crash, which occurs when the front corner of the drivers' side collides with another vehicle or an object like a tree or pylon at 65km/h. This is not the first time Subaru has recorded the impressive results as its other models - including the Outback and XV - were also named as 'Top Safety Picks' by the organisation.
  16. Nissan debuted the 2015 Nissan 370Z Nismo at the ZDAYZ event - an annual gathering of hundreds of Nissan, Datsun and Nismo owners and enthusiasts. The most striking change is its revised exterior design. The Nissan GT-R inspired aerodynamic body pieces are both functional and fully integrated. They have been redesigned to provide an aggressive and more aerodynamic appearance, in addition to optimising front and rear downforce. Key changes include a new, deep front fascia with LED Hyper Daytime Running Lights, black headlight bezels, Nismo emblem and brand signature red stripe accent on the integrated front chin spoiler. Around the rump, the unique Nismo rear spoiler has been reshaped and downsized. Under the hood, you would find a potent 350bhp and 373Nm rated, 3.7-litre DOHC V6 engine matched to an exclusive, exhaust system to help create 18bhp more than a standard 370Z Coupe. Two transmission choices are offered for the first time on the Nismo model - a close-ratio six-speed manual with SynchroRev Match or a new refined seven-speed automatic with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM), Adaptive Shift Control and manual shift control via paddle shifters. The distinctive Nismo styled interior is further enhanced with redesigned black and red Recaro leather seats with Alcantara accents - exclusive for the 370Z Nismo. The 370Z Nismo is offered in just four exterior colours and will go on sale at Nissan dealers in the U.S.A from July 2014.

Is this Audi's vision of a RS3 Sedan?

Working upon the S3 Sedan and finished in Magnetic Blue, the Audi A3 clubsport quattro concept measures 4,490mm long, sits 1,856mm wide and stands 1,382mm tall - with a wheelbase of 2,631mm. The show car houses a extensively modified 2.5-litre five-cylinder TFSI engine sourced from the RS Q3. The turbocharged lump boasts an impressive 525bhp and 600Nm of torque and with a total weight of 1,527kg - corresponds to a power-to-weight ratio of 2.9kg/bhp. The lump accelerates the A3 clubsport quattro concept from nought to century mark in 3.6 seconds and continues to climb to a top speed of 310km/h. The power unit is married to a seven-speed S tronic with a tall seventh gear - to reduce fuel consumption. The automatic dual-clutch transmission can also be handled manually via the paddles on the steering wheel or the shift lever. While black is dominant throughout the interior the seat covers feature light grey piping and contrast stitching in Sepang Blue. The headlining and the pillars are covered in black Alcantara, and the decorative inlays are in brushed aluminum.
  18. Exclusive to Gran Turismo 6 on the PlayStation 3 - the BMW Visio Gran Turismo - created by the BMW Group Design, boasts a three-litre six-cylinder inline engine developed by BMW M, for a hypothetical performance figure of 549bhp and 680Nm of torque - developed at just 1,900rpm. Armed with the credible M TwinPower Turbo technology, the lump is linked to a sequential six-speed transmission, operated by gearshift paddles on the steering wheel, and propels the power to the rear wheels. Crisp proportions and a dynamic silhouette give the BMW Vision Gran Turismo the appearance of speed, even when stationary. Front and rear spoilers ensure optimum downforce, while all air conduction elements reduce drag and lower the vehicle's total weight - to a virtual weight of 1,180kg - thanks to the utilisation of carbon fibre. The Gran Turismo video game, first released in 1998, is an award winning racing simulation and is one of the biggest virtual racing games worldwide in addition to being PlayStation's most successful franchise.
  19. Nissan has unveiled the new Pulsar Hatchback, bearing signature Nissan trademarks such as a V-motion grille and boomerang shaped lighting signature. The car was designed and engineered for Europe and will be built at Nissan's production facility in Barcelona, Spain. The new Pulsar offers a wide number of safety features usually reserved for premium or luxury models including the marque's advanced Safety Shield - essentially a suite of systems and technologies which offer a fully comprehensive 'safety net' for drivers. Among the systems offered are Forward Emergency Braking, Moving Object Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Blind Spot Warning. The Pulsar also features Nissan's second generation infotainment system which offers a range of novelty features including full smartphone integration, Google Send-to-Car and accessibility to a wide variety of apps. Through the Pulsar, Nissan offers a wide range of turbocharged engines starting with the 1.2-litre DIG-T powerplant, which provides 113bhp of power while a higher 187bhp rated 1.6-litre petrol engine will join the range early next year. A 1.5-litre dCi oil burner generating 108bhp and 260Nm of torque will also be available. The new Pulsar engines offer adequate performance levels and deliver emissions lower than 95g/km and are linked to an advanced XTronic automatic transmission. The long 2,700mm wheelbase and clever packaging has resulted with 692mm of rear knee room, which the marque believes is more room than what several compact executive cars offer. Also, the compact footprint of 4,385mm, makes it easier to park in tight urban environments like Singapore. The new Pulsar hatchback goes on sale in Europe from Autumn 2014.
  20. Following the SLS AMG, the upcoming Mercedes-AMG GT is the second vehicle to be independently developed by AMG. While the exterior still remains to be clouded in secrecy, Mercedes has unveiled the cabin ahead of its global debut later this year - presumably during the Paris Motor Show in October. Finished in my two favourite colours - red and black - the quality and overall design of the cabin is nothing short of superior and sleek, and the quality is similar to Mercedes' cabins in new cars like the all new S-Class and C-Class. The cabin is dominated by four central spotlight-style air con vents, accompanied by the individual vents at the extreme ends of the dashboard. Other highlights include a large floating touchscreen display, a COMAND controller with multitouch gesture capability and a flat bottomed steering wheel wrapped in what I think is leather and alcantara. While not a direct successor to the SLS AMG, the Mercedes-AMG GT is poised to be a more 'affordable' offering to its bigger brethren. It is rumoured to be powered by a 4.0-litre V8 with different power outputs depending on the model.
  21. The collection in the Lamborghini Museum has just gained an additional member with the addition of the one-unit only Lamborghini Egoista - a supercar developed by Walter De Silva, Head of Volkswagen Group Design, as a tribute to the Raging Bull marque's 50th anniversary last year. Inspired by the Apache attack helicopter, the Egoista, which is Italian for 'selfish' is powered by a 5.2-litre V10 engine that churns out 600bhp and takes the attributes that are in the DNA of every Lamborghini to the next (eccentric) level. The design is sharply distinguished by a muscular structure with alternating open and solid areas, and the profile suggests the stylised silhouette of a bull about to charge. The car's aeronautical influence is clearly evident in the headlight system while the aeronautical inspiration is also evident in the body made of lightweight materials such as carbon fibre and aluminium. The cockpit is conceived as a removable accessory which allows the driver to be insulated and protected from external elements.
  22. Shell is once again driving value for motorists in Singapore with its 'WinWithShell' promotion from the 19th of May until the 13th of July. Participating entries, along with terms and conditions, for the promotion can be viewed at Shell's website.
  23. Hyundai unveiled the new 2015 Hyundai Sonata at the New York Auto Show wearing a bold new design as part of the new Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language - an evolution of the original fluidic sculpture design language that perfectly expresses Sonata's premium look and excellent value. The 2015 Hyundai Sonata will go on sale early this summer in the U.S.A. I believe the American model would not make it to local shores, although it provides a hint of an all new i45 for Singapore. The design of the Sonata matures for the 2015 model year with a larger, more refined grille with a wide air intake defines the face of the 2015 Sonata. The coupe-like roofline remains, but it is balanced by a larger window graphic that emphasises the roomier interior. In SE trim, the Sonata's exterior styling includes standard LED daytime running lights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a rear lip spoiler and chrome surround for the day light opening. The premium interior plays a special emphasis on ergonomics. For example, intuitive buttons and controls are placed on the centre stack - angled toward the driver - for easier accessibility. The height of the display screen for the audio display or 8.0-inch navigation system and instrument cluster are optimised for visibility and reside on the same plane to enhance readability during a quick glance. Sonata Sport 2.0T receives a unique interior featuring a D-cut steering wheel and paddle shifters while the sport instrument cluster with six o'clock needle position hints at the improved performance from the more responsive turbocharged engine. Hyundai continues its all four-cylinder engine lineup for the 2015 Sonata. A revised 2.4-litre Theta II GDI four-cylinder engine powers SE, Limited and Sport models. The 2.4-litre four-cylinder produces 185 horses and 241Nm of torque. A revised 2.0-litre Theta II turbocharged GDI powers the Sport 2.0T models. The 2.0-litre turbocharged engine is optimised for lower RPM drivability and produces 245bhp and 352Nm of torque. Both Theta engines are paired to a six-speed Shiftronic automatic transmission.

All new Murano unveiled at New York Motor Show

Nissan has revealed the all new 2015 Nissan Murano at the New York International Auto Show. While the original Murano was inspired by the elegance of Italian Murano glassware from which the model took its name, the third generation took its cues from the Nissan Resonance Concept. The prominent glass areas of the first generation Murano were retained and expanded with the new design, including the use of its jet-inspired roof and D-pillars that appear disconnected from the roof that help visually lighten the cabin. Another key element is the continued refinement of the boomerang-style headlights and taillights, which were originally introduced on the Nissan 370Z. The new design is slightly lower, wider and longer, enhancing the aerodynamics while not compromising the desired crossover height and stance. The instrument panel height is lower than previous Muranos. Centred between the outer wings is a large information and control centre with an available eight-inch colour display with multi-touch control. The cargo area has been reconfigured to provide a projected best storage space in the segment (with seats up). The rear cargo area, accommodates four large suitcases and can accomodate more load with the flat folding rear seats. The Murano will be available at launch with a standard 3.5-litre DOHC V6 rated at 260bhp and 325Nm of torque. Also standard is an advanced Xtronic transmission tuned for quick response and smoothness. Fuel economy is projected to be enhanced by approximately 20 percent versus the current generation Murano, due to the approximate 58kg overall weight reduction, enhanced aerodynamics and engine/transmission efficiencies. The 2015 Nissan Murano will be offered in four grade levels when it goes on sale in late 2014 in America - each available in front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.
  25. Lewis Hamilton recorded his first hat-trick victory of his career as well as in the Chinese circuit and, in the process, led the Mercedes AMG team to another dominant victory for the third consecutive time in the 2014 season. At the end of the 54 laps, Hamilton crossed the chequered flags 18 seconds ahead of team mate Nico Rosberg, in the other silver arrows, and 23 seconds ahead of Fernando Alonso in the Ferrari - the first podium finish for the Italian team in 2014, delivered in front of new Team Principal, Marco Mattiacci. Like in the previous two races in Malaysia and Bahrain, it was a leisurely cruise for the Brit after sprinting ahead of the rest of the grid, as the Mercedes team executed a flawless two-stop strategy. Besides a mild error before his first pit stop where Hamilton slid wide at Turn 14, it was an effortless race. Rosberg recovered from a poor start to aid in Mercedes' podium dominance once again, while Alonso defended the briskly charging Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo in the closing laps to secure the last spot on the podium. The other Ferrari at the hands of Kimi Raikkonen had a quiet race and managed a best of eight after starting off the grid in 11th. Felipe Massa's impressive start off the line was short lived after trying to squeeze into a gap too small for his Williams and banged wheels with his former teammate's Ferrari. After the minor incident and a botched first pit stop which involved a mix-up of rear tyres - the Williams driver crossed the line in 15th. His teammate, Valtteri Bottas, was also lucky to survive his first corner incident after making contact with Rosberg, who had a terrible start and had to fight past Massa and Nico Hulkenberg on the first lap to get into fifth. Defending champion, Sebastian Vettel, was once again outperformed by his teammate and had to settle for fifth. McLaren had another weekend to forget after its drivers crossed the line out of points classification in 11th and 13th respectively. The F1 circus heads to Barcelona in around three weeks, with Rosberg marginally leading the drivers' championship over Hamilton and Alonso at 79, 75 and 41 points respectively. In the constructors' charts, Mercedes with 154 points are clear of Red Bull and Force India with 57 and 54 points respectively.
