    Bugatti Chiron Sport does top speed run

    Bugatti claims that the Chiron Sport can hit 420km/h flat out. But is it true? Top Gear's Charlie Turner has been given the chance to experience a top speed run in a Chiron Sport at Volkswagen's Ehra-Lessien test track. In its video, Turner can be seen accessing the full potential of the Chiron with a special key that activates the “high speed” mode. With the correct tyre pressures and car warmed up, he lines the car up after the turn at 200km/h before giving it all. With a straight of more than 8km long, the 8.0-litre, quad-turbo W16-equipped Chiron Sport unleashes all its 1479bhp, allowing Turner to easily go into the 400km/h range quite easily. Eventually, we see in the video that Turner managed to hit 423km/h, showcasing the genius engineering that went into its creation.
  2. Lamborghini has apparently revealed their limited edition hypercar on the owners-only Unica app. Supposedly called the Sian, we are sure it isn't boring to look at or to drive. Based on the Aventador, the car looks like it is influenced by the Terzo Millennio concept. Lamborghini fans would notice the “63” logos on the car's vertical fins which is a reference to Lamborghini’s founding in 1963. According to The Drive, the car will have a 6.5-litre V12 engine taken from the Aventador SJV which also means that it should have at least 760bhp. Interestingly, there are rumors that it will also have an electric motor that produces 30bhp, making the total power output just under 800bhp a possibility. The car is expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show on 10th of September.
  3. The Toyota Supra and BMW M2 Competition might be fighting it out in different market segments but they actually are quite similar on paper. Both are rear wheel driven and they are both powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six that will allow them to sprint to hundred kilometres per hour in almost the same time (4.2 vs 4.3 seconds). So on a drag strip which one would be a faster car? Shot by Cars.co.za, one might think that the 404bhp M2 Competition will win with its additional power and torque but the 335bhp Supra is actually the lighter car, allowing Supra to put down its power more efficiently. In the video, we can see that that is what happened as Supra launched better despite it having problems putting down its power. However, as the speed rises, the superior power and torque figures of the M2 Competition meant that the Supra's advantage was short-lived. In the end, the BMW won with a quarter-mile time of 13.36 seconds while the Toyota did it in 13.44 seconds.

    This is how the new Defender looks like

    Someone has posted an image of the upcoming Land Rover Defender on Instagram. The long-awaited SUV, is seen here free or almost free of any camouflage. According to the Instagram user, the photo was snapped on the film set of the latest James Bond film where the all new Defender is set to star. We are already aware it will look different from the previous-generation Defender thanks to the official teasers from Land Rover but from this photo, the Defender does look a little softer and more of a fashion statement than a proper off roader. Of course, Land Rover will disagree and point us to the impressive amount of ground clearance shown. Set to be launched at the Frankfurt Auto Show next month, the SUV is rumored to be launched in 110 guise first with engine options consisting of three petrol models available, namely a 296bhp 2.0-litre, a 398bhp plug-in hybrid, and a 395bhp 3.0-litre six-cylinder.

Thanks to Ford, Hammond reckons he has found the solution to make his life whole. Yup, he thinks the latest Ford Ranger Raptor would do him good and the British journalist then proceeds to show us how capable the pick up truck is. Interestingly, Drive Tribe openly admitted that this video was sponsored by Ford, leaving us slightly confused on the video's take away...
  6. Last weekend, no less than 170 cars gathered at Bandimere Speedway in Denver, Colorado with hopes of breaking the record for the most number of simultaneous burnouts done. As you can see from the drone footage, all the vehicles participating in the event lined up alongside the edge of a drag facility and once the flags started waving, smoke started spewing out from the cars gradually. Some of the owners even fitted special tyres so that the smoke generated from the spinning tyres are blue in colour. The official Guinness World Record was set in Australia in January this year with the help of 126 cars at a Summernats event. Despite the larger turnout in Colorado, officials from Guinness World Records have yet to announce whether a record was indeed set.
  7. Shooting of the Fast and Furious 9 has already commenced and someone has spotted the new Toyota Supra on the set of the car action movie. Filming is currently taking place at Tbilisi, Georgia, where some action-packed stunts have taken place. Thanks a Instagram user, we can also see that a orange Supra will feature in the 9th installment of the movie, a nod to the original that was driven by the late Paul Walker. Other than that, the article on Car and Driver also reported that a black 1970 Dodge Charger was present on the set. You can bet that the car will be driven by Vin Diesel’s character, Dominic Toretto. Filming of Fast and Furious 9 will visit to a number of other countries before it wraps up, with the release date set on 10th of April 2020.

It is the default class leader and is expected to win but with a 394bhp Audi TT RS Roadster included in the test, it might have its work cut out. Of course, we have to have the Toyota Supra included in the test and with a 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six that is believed to be underrated at 335bhp, it should not do too bad.   10. According to PapadakisRacing, the answer is yes. And they reckon that the B58 is capable of pushing out 1,000bhp. Yes, the tuning company plans to take the Supra's 3.0-litre turbocharged six-cylinder to such extreme outputs and for them to get there, they have to strip it down to see what it is made off. The B58 engine has been in existence since 2015 and has since proven itself to be easy to work with. A tune on the B58 engine could see a BMW 340i's horsepower numbers jump from the factory's 326bhp to well over 420bhp.

According to Nissan U.K., the country has around 9,300 locations where EV owners can charge their cars and out of those, 1,600 of them has the ability to fast charging, which can bring up a typical battery’s capacity from 0 to around 80 percent in less than an hour, in cars that support it. With the introduction of the Ultra-Low Emission Zone in London, car owners are switching to EV as solutions for their daily commute, with the demand of battery-powered cars increasing by 158.1% this month alone. While EV stations have increased by quite a bit since 2011, petrol stations have been slowing decreasing and the currently count stands at 8,400.
  12. A software engineer has successfully implanted into her forearm her Tesla Model 3's keycard chip. she can now enter her car by simply waving her arm near the car’s sensors. The YouTuber, who goes by the alias Amie DD, is no stranger to ‘body modification'. A couple of years ago, she an RFID tag inserted into her arm so that she could open the front door at her house. Being a software expert, there were probably other things she could do with the chip in her arm too. So when her Tesla Model 3 arrived, she though that her car's keycard would use a similar RFID technology that would allow her to simply transfer the data from the card to her existing chip. However, it didn't work out hence she had to remove the chip from the card and insert it into her arm. For those of you who aren't afraid of seeing blood, you can watch her other video whereby she shows us how the chip is inserted into the her arm. Since then, she has managed to get it to work, as long as her forearm must be about 25 mm from the car’s center console before it will start up.

  14. Deliveries of Mercedes-AMG's hypercar, One has been reportedly delayed till 2021 as there are ongoing difficulties in making the engine suitable for street use. According to Auto Motor und Sport, some parts of of the One’s powertrain is in need of refinement as engineers underestimated the difficulties posed by using such an highly-strung engine. One of the most significant challenges includes making the Formula 1-inspired 1.6-litre turbocharged V6 pass its WLTP emissions regulations. The Germany company has also been reported to face issues in making sure that the engine doesn’t require electric pre-heating before it turns over, like a race engine does. With such a high power output targeted by the company, the engineers also realised that squeezing more than 650bhp from the 1.6-litre engine could make it a tad fragile. The hypercar is set to have a combined output of more than 1,000bhp thanks to the help of four electric motors. This would allegedly be enough to send the hybrid hypercar to 200 km/h in less than six seconds and through to a top speed over 350 km/h.
  15. As one of the manufacturers that make their cars some of the fastest in the world, Alpina is against possible end of de-restricted autobahns. In an article published by Which Car, its Chief Executive Andreas Bovensiepen has expressed its concerns about the introduction of speed limiters and the detrimental effects it will have on the industry. “Initially we’d expect a dip in sales (if such legislation was put in place). In the first place it will hurt every fast-car manufacturer… but I think ultimately people will still want to buy performance cars. It’s like buying an expensive watch; I think people will always enjoy buying expensive, fast cars,” he said. He further explanined that such laws are unlikley to kill of the high-performance segment of cars but stressed that speed limits could discourage car manufacturers from investing heavily in new and innovative suspension and tyre technologies. “If there are speed limiters I think the majority of cars will get a much lower quality in suspension,” he said. “The German manufactures will say ‘oh, why should we invest so much money in suspension if there’s hardly any difference if you can go no faster than 120km/h’. In that case you don’t need five-link suspension etc.” “If we have lower speed limits then the focus of tire tech could shift to be entirely more on durability and not grip. So they’ll make harder compounds with less rolling resistance, but with less grip on a wet surface. So maybe you have more accidents,” Bovensiepen explained.
