  2. @13177 My ceiling fan hangs directly above my bed.
Much better than a standing fan, which provides very limited range of coverage (dunnoe to blow my head or my feet).
Almost everyday don't have to turn on air-con.
Best decision in my life. lol

  3. My friend deregistered his Hyundai Getz via sg carmart quotz few months ago. As long as you have the LTA PIN with you, they are very fast.

Today call in to quotz, tomorrow the dealer come down pay cash and drive off already.

Even for a Getz, his car body, he got about $200.

  4. The crabs Leedo use is the double shell crab.

The beauty of the cold crab is the fact that it is just about to molt, so it has a soft shell inside of the harder outer shell. So sometimes it is also known as the double shell crab. At this stage, the crab is also full of “roe” which really isn’t “roe” since it is a male crab. The yellow “roe” is in fact milt, which is the nice way of saying crab sperm!

麗都飯店 Lee Do Restaurant ... Cold Crab's the reason why we're here.

    DSC_5848.jpg

I was Ade's birthday dinner and it's almost a crabby one for the last 3 birthdays for members of Eat Eat Eat club. It was Ade's great idea that we do crab birthday meals this year. Jane's was at House of Seafood, mine in Roland Restaurant and Ade chose hers to be at 麗都飯店 Lee Do (Cold Crab) Restaurant. There are several cold crab restaurats like Li Gui at Mosque Street or the Singapura Restaurant. Non of us tried Lee Do before and so here we are. Service was really good. Our plates were replaced by clean ones between dishes. The following shows the dishes that just skimmed the surface of what we actually ate but are highlights of the dinner.

    DSC_5854.jpg

Lee Do's Cold Crab was the one reason that we're here. We pre-ordered the crabs which we start tearing apart when everyone arrived at the table. The crab was chilled which was probably why it accentuates the sweetness of the crab. The pincer was the easy for us to pick at the chunky meat ...
    DSC_5860.jpg

... but I thought that the best part was the body where the crab roe mingled with the meat. Apart from the extra effort needed to separate the soft shell from the meat, which was well worth the effort, the meat we found here was especially tender and sweet. The chilli sauce as a dip didn't add much to the experience but the black vinegar did enhanced the sweetness of the crab. Negative thoughts of cholesterol intake were cast aside. Tonight we feast.

  6. Abit out of topic here but would like to ask if other forumers face the same problem.

These days, there's alot of dry fit material for sports top.

Whilst it's quite good that it doesn't absorb sweat and thus makes the top heavy, I personally find that the top smells worse than normal sports top.

Do you guys face the same problem? Or maybe it's me?

    I face the same problem.

If I wear dri-fit for more than half a day, confirm will stink.

Don't face the same issue with other kinds of fabric.

  7. Life is like a journey on a train...

    with its stations..

    with changes of routes.. and
    with accidents.

We board this train when we are born and

our parents are the ones who get our ticket.

We believe they will always travel on this train with us.

However, at some station our parents will get off the train,

leaving us alone on this journey.

As time goes by, other passengers will board the train,

many of whom will be significant - our siblings, friends,

children, and even the love of our life.

Many will get off during the journey and

leave a permanent vacuum in our lives.

Many will go so unnoticed that we won't even know

when they vacated their seats and got off the train

This train ride will be full of joy, sorrow, fantasy,

    expectations, hellos, good-byes and farewells.

A good journey is helping, loving, having a

good relationship with all co passengers...

and making sure that we give our best

    to make their journey comfortable.

The mystery of this fabulous journey is :

We do not know at which station

we ourselves are going to get off.

So, we must live in the best way -

adjust, forget, forgive, and offer the best of what we have.

It is important to do this because

when the time comes for us to leave our seat...
we should leave behind beautiful memories for those

who will continue to travel on the train of life.

Thank you for being one of the passengers on my train

Have a very pleasant journey of life.........!

7 in 10 NSmen in their 30s fail annual IPPT: Training expert

SINGAPORE — Seven in 10 National Servicemen in their 30s fail their annual Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT), and this failure rate rises as the NSmen age. This is based on the experience of a former head of physical training in the army, Mr Edwin Ong, who spoke to Channel NewsAsia following the news that the IPPT will be made simpler.

It is unclear what changes will be announced, and when they will be announced. Currently, said Mr Ong, IPPT problem areas for NSmen are chin-ups, the standing broad jump, and the 2.4km stations.

There are specific reasons the current IPPT stations are part of a serviceman’s training regime. The 2.4km run, for example, tests one’s cardiovascular fitness, said Mr Ong. “It tests how fit you are in terms of stamina, because your heart really needs to cope with the stress — and so it is a very good gauge of your overall fitness level.” This station is reportedly a problem for around seven in 10 servicemen.

The shuttle run is a station where the aim is to sprint a total of 40m in two loops, bending and touching the ground (or picking up a block) at each turning point. “The reason is we’re simulating a fire movement,” said Mr Ong, ex-Head of Physical Training, School of Physical Training. “So when you get into a position of cover, you need to really place one hand in front and get yourself down, and prone yourself down to get yourself in a firing position.”

Sit-ups, meanwhile, focus on another aspect. “It is important for NSmen because when we put on our uniform and our SBO (Skeletal Battle Order) or now the load-bearing vest, this will help us keep everything in hold,” said Mr Ong.

As for chin-ups, National Serviceman Mohd Azfar feels they are still relevant because “when you have to do FIBUA (fighting in built-up areas) exercises, you will have to scale walls, which requires upper body strength. So I feel there’s no need to tweak this station, as it is very relevant”.

One of the toughest stations is the standing broad jump station — fitness experts say about six in 10 NSmen have problems passing this station. “There are a lot of people who can’t really jump,” said Mr Ong. “One is that they do not have the strength and the power, and the second issue is their jumping technique.”

Indeed, while it takes only about an hour to go through all the current stations, it takes about six weeks to get ready for the IPPT as it stands now. CHANNEL NEWSASIA

Malaysia Boleh! KL Wanton Mee at Jurong Point, Singapore

    DSC_0112jk.jpg
    pinterestx1_72.png

Malaysia Boleh! food court at Jurong Point in Singapore has a stall that serves KL style wanton mee.

Having lived in Kuala Lumpur for a few years, I like the KL style of wanton mee with that heavy lard and char siew drippings. I often joked with my foodie kakis that it's the wanton mee with overused motor oil - black, heavy, gummy, gooey and almost makes your heart stop just by looking at it.

But, it is so darned irresistible :S

Outside of KL, I am skeptical that I will ever find any wanton mee to match.

    DSC_0025jk.jpg

Like they say in that old, popular Chicago song, "Baby, what a big surprise...."

The owners of Malaysia Boleh! food court went all the way to KL's famous food street, Jalan Alor and persuaded the KL wanton mee seller there to teach them the recipe.

And, they brought it back to Singapore.

    DSC_0125jk.jpg

They even got a KLite, Ah Mun to run the wanton mee stall at Malaysia Boleh! Ah Mum knows very well what the KL wanton mee benchmark is :D

    DSC_0121jk.jpg

Dark soy sauce, lard crackles, and I believe char siew drippings, caramel and other trade secrets :D

    DSC_0127jk.jpg

The char siew 叉燒 in the stall window were still trickling dribbles of that precious sweet and savoury nectar.

    DSC_0043jk.jpg

KL style wanton mee. This one at Malaysia Boleh! certainly looked the part after a good tossing in the sauce.

    DSC_0029jk.jpg

Just imagine for yourself - a sauce of char siew drippings, soy sauce, caramel, lard (plus other ingredients I don't know). My foodie kakis gushed. I was pleasantly surprised. Actually, jaw dropping surprised.

It felt like that moment when you embraced a long lost friend whom you bumped into, in the most unexpected place. (Food court can have good food, meh?)

The noodles were also very likable. Slurpy smooth when coated with the sauce, the noodles were el dente in spaghetti speak or QQ in our language.

    DSC_0074jk.jpg

The thin slice of char siew was pretty good too - lean, fat with a caramelised outside layer. (My favourite wanton mee stall in KL serves the char siew in chunks.)

    DSC_0038jk.jpg

The golden nugget of pure lard was the best :P

    DSC_0023jk.jpg

The wanton was good too. Big and meaty with sesame aroma. The soup was sweet and laced with aromatic lard.

Oh, my favourite KL wanton mee stall's motor oil is thicker by a couple of notches but that's another story.... we are down here in Singapore/ Johor.

  11. I frequent Taka. Thanks for the recommendations!

@throttle2,You can be so nice and helpful when you choose to.

You can buy them from all your usual cigar retailers in town.
Eg. LaCasa at Regent, Oaks at greatworld, ConDivan at UE square, Davidoff at taka and hyatt, etc etc...

My recommendations retail for about $30 to $35 a stick.

Ps. And plse Dont waste your time and money on a Monte Cristo No.4 (only people who dont know their stuff recommend that = most shop assistants)
