    2019 All new Mazda 3

Actually the Swift is my wife's car. I'm in a COE 2L Camry and I feel the the new 3 is about the same as the Camry in terms of acceleration. In terms of refinement... the 3's road noise is at least equal if not slightly better than my old Camry. Of course it has lots and lots of gizmos absent in my old car and handles much more nicely. The only new tech in my Camry is a Pioneer head unit with Android Auto/ Apple Carplay. Compared to the Swift... I think the Swift pulls harder at town speeds- maybe it's perception as the torque comes on clearly when the turbo kicks in vs a more gradual rise in the NA Mz 3. Noisier for sure though. The SEs told me no 2L Mz3 is planned at the moment, whether SkyActiveG or SkyActiveX. How true I don't know.

    2019 All new Mazda 3

Was at the Star Vista Mazda road show yesterday and checked out the new 3. Immense showroom appeal- superior cabin compared to all it's Japanese/ Korean peers. Also it's loaded with all the safety gizmos we are usually deprived of because of our unfriendly car taxation structure (I hope other ADs will realise that some people are willing to pay for the extra gear and bring in better equipped cars). It's pretty. I prefer the balance of the sedan to the back heavy look of the hatch. The car is refined on the move. I found pulling power to be adequate at best. It felt a bit draggy with 4 pax in the car. At least it felt smooth and was relatively muted by good sound insulation. Cruising at legal speeds is very comfortable. This car deserves a better power plant. Unfortunately two SEs told me the TEK is not bringing in the ActiveX (told them no plans to as it will cannibalise the Mz 6 sales). This is contrary to what I've read in the press. Not sure who is correct. I think petrolheads really want to get the ActiveX model. I'm going to check out some small turbos next. They won't be as posh or have all of the safety gear but they may be more fun to drive. We can't have it all at this price range I think.

You'd bet better off with a Jazz/ Fit if you are tall.

This is the only one I've seen- Off Aliexpress https://www.aliexpress.com/item/High-quality-ABS-black-white-primer-unpainted-color-car-rear-roof-spoiler-for-Swift-2018/32950379716.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.2.236473abFYRa6P&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_3_10065_10068_319_10059_10884_317_10887_10696_321_322_10084_453_10083_454_10103_10618_10307_537_536_10902,searchweb201603_6,ppcSwitch_0&algo_expid=167719d4-8bd4-4de4-a16c-4a83915d88ec-0&algo_pvid=167719d4-8bd4-4de4-a16c-4a83915d88ec&transAbTest=ae803_5

    New Suzuki Vitara 2016

VES B (neutral) This is good news for the Swift Sport too I hope. The 1.4T in the Vitara makes it much more appealing too. I like the size and look of the car.

    Suzuki Solio and S-Cross launch

The S-Cross is rather uncomfortably priced due to the $20K VES surcharge. I find the new grill rather ugly as well but that's just me. Personally I would choose another car which is VES neutral if possible. Hopefully the Vitara facelift doesn't get hit with the same surcharge.

Agree. My Vios ran on XM2 - everytime I checked the thread I was amazed at how much was still there. But definitely not quiet esp on a Vios. My Camry is running on the Michelin PS4 and it is a good quiet tyre with better grip than my old Yokohama dB551 (old model). But of course the Camry has lots more soundproofing than the Vios.

Very good price! I wouldn't mid experimenting with an Android head unit as connectivity is more impt to me than sound quality but for wife I think simplicity/ familiarity (my COE Camry has a Pioneer head unit) and good sound is more important. Would consider one of those with a big 8 to 9" screen for the Camry if my head unit goes kaput.

The gen 2 Vios I had was definitely noisier than the new Swift. This was evident at the test drive as well. For one you don't have to rev the Swift as much due to the torque from the turbo. For road noise I'd say the Vios was louder too- but hey that was a 10 year old car.... The ride was much more absorbent for the Vios though. Still we love the Swift. Wife enjoys it a lot (she's the main driver). I did check on getting an android head unit locally - https://www.facebook.com/pg/Car-Android-Head-Unit-Screen-Singapore-224997381499747/about/?ref=page_internal I was quoted $900 for installation (all in with rear camera). Chose to get the Pioneer though.

The standard head unit doesn't sound too bad as far as stock head units go. The car has a 6 speaker system with a pair of tweeters in the dash/ A pillar area which gives a brighter clearer sound stage. Bass is adequate for me but of course not very deep as there's no subwoofer. I didn't bother to change the speakers as my wife only listens to 92.4FM. We changed the head unit to get Android Auto and reverse cam functions. Once you are used to this it's hard to do without it. We had planned to sound proof the car too but in the end it wasn't as bad as the old Vios so we decided to sklp it.

I got Std Swift as the mark up for the premium model just to get the CLarion head unit was illogically high. What's more the SE said the head unit only supported Apple Carplay and not Android Auto (I never checked further). I bought a fascia adaptor from Aliexpress and asked my ICE installer to put in a new Pioneer 5150BT. It works great. And all for $1k compared to the $3k for the premium swift...

My own experience with the Swift is that the engine is decently quiet. There's that odd offbeat 3 cylinder engine noise but it's not unpleasant. Wind noise starts to become an issue above 80kmh. The road roar can also get a bit loud but it's really not too bad. I mainly get surprised at how firm the ride is sometimes when we go over humps or potholes. There are so far no rattles at all.
