  1. Seems like it takes a lot of time to make it effective.

Not really bah. Everyone has an asmr trigger I guess. “Asmr” is just one of those new fangled names for a thing that has existed for ages.

For eg, I’ve always known that getting a head or feet massage will put me to sleep quite quickly, just didn’t know that it’s asmr....

  2. What exactly is this ASMR?

Autonomous sensory meridian response is an experience characterized by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine. It has been compared with auditory-tactile synesthesia and may overlap with frisson.

ASMR signifies the subjective experience of "low-grade euphoria" characterized by "a combination of positive feelings and a distinct static-like tingling sensation on the skin". It is most commonly triggered by specific auditory or visual stimuli, and less commonly by intentional attention control.

Stimuli that can trigger ASMR, as reported by those who experience it, include the following:

    - Listening to a softly spoken or whispering voice.

    - Listening to quiet, repetitive sounds resulting from someone engaging in a mundane task such as turning the pages of a book.

    - Watching somebody attentively execute a mundane task such as preparing food.

    - Loudly chewing, crunching, slurping or biting foods, drinks, or gum.

    - Receiving tender personal attention.

    - Listening to a person explain a concept, describe an object or system.

TL;DR: something that relaxes you. My personal experience with it doesn’t exactly involve the tingles. A good example would be how older folks like to turn on the TV but not actually watch it then fall asleep but wake up immediately if the background noise is turned off.

  3. Wah !! I didnât Hantu also got different sub categories leh

Liddat @dach is what type of ghost ??

Seldom get to see also lah. But I don’t think I will dare. Lots of friends have told me never to let the spirits know I’m aware of their existence.

  5. how do you know its a human death though thats making u wake and feel uncomfortable?

Happened 100s and 1000s of times until I don’t even question it anymore when I jump awake or feel weird - an ambulance or hearse will appear extremely shortly or there will be void deck funeral/Indian procession.

That’s how I narrowed down the timing and radius.

Maybe a few times were animals, I wouldn’t know. I did jump awake when my hamster was taking her last few breaths though.

  7. So you didn't just see them, but you also heard them. [speechless] Were they speaking Mandarin or a dialect ?

    Hokkien actually.

Consciously see maybe 20 times only (that I know I’m actually seeing something), hear less often. Did have an unpleasant experience during last year’s 7th month when I accidentally walked into what I assume was an entire group of hungry ghosts... head nearly exploded from the crowd noise.

Add on: the guy I saw was in his 60s, had the beginning of a bald patch, squat and stout, wore a green (maybe blue cos I tetrachromatic)/white striped polo tee, berms. Looked like any other human.

Parents brought me to temple the day after cos I had a horrible dream that night and monk straight up asked did anything happen recently before I even open mouth.

  8. How do you know ? Like you would sense it or you would see it ?

Reminds me of this movie about this guy who can see things in his head just seconds before they happen, but has no way to stop it happening.

If I’m sleeping, I will jump awake. If awake, I just feel unexplainable uncomfortable.

Only once did I ever see heibai wuchang.

On another occasion I saw an old man escorting/herding people up a bus. He was shouting “上车咯!时间到咯!” really loudly. I assumed nobody other than me could see him since not a single person looked in his direction.

  9. Don’t believe and don’t want to believe but too many strange instances that can’t be explained have happened.

For eg, I will instinctively know of any human death within 30 mins in a 500m radius. Used to be 100% of the time I would know but as I get older, radius smaller and only 75% accurate.

  10. Is all start from the family.

My daughters at home we always communicate with them in mandarin.

English left it to the school.

They are ok at both english and mother tongue.

  11. Good opportunity to encourage my son to use chinese publicly.

He is one of those in class that ask chinese teacher to converse in English during class. Sigh..

Hahah I was also that kind of kid. I never answered to my chinese name all thru pri and sec school.

During my o levels results announcement when the principal said Express Chinese 100% pass, the entire body of students and teachers all look at me and gave me standing ovation. My form teacher and chinese teacher cried.

My school actually replaced my english, chemistry and literature classes with chinese during exam cramming cos there was no way I would fail those.

Chinese Language education centre Xin Zhong Wen (新中文) has teamed up with McDonald’s to launch a new initiative to encourage practical learning of Chinese for children.

The initiative, named Project 开心点(Kāi Xīn Diǎn, be happier in English), will offer free Happy Meals to kids under 12 who place their orders in Mandarin.

The promotion will be available from Feb. 16 to Feb. 17, at four McDonald’s outlets — NEX, JEM, Great World City, United Square.

1000 Happy Meals will be given out, per day, at each outlet.

    No catch.
