  1. 1:3 but RM value shrink, what is the point? Things just become more expensive in RM as well.

In a way stuff are getting more expensive in Singapore and many other countries as well, not just Malaysia.  But I am sure if you ask the average Sgrean worker if he wants a 3x pay rise AND still be able to use it in Singapore, I think most still take it.

For average SG worker to get 3x they may have to go Europe or Middle east, there u cannot go home cheaply and frequently, consumption is done there and you basically can't have the best of both worlds, and you are taxed a lot more.

So I think your "what is the point?" is a bit oversimplified for those Malaysian people who really make a living out of the paycheque here.

  2. Prior to GE, contractors for East Coast Rail Link applies for import of PRC workers.

I don't think Ah Long is bff with Xi big big. Currently Ah Long still got Wang Qi Shan to help him.

Wang Qi Shan likes Sg a lot.

At least the situation seems better than last year. LHL also visit 2 times in a year, I guess must be important enough for him to do so.

  3. if it's his 2nd property, then the profit is real.

if it's his primary residence, LPPL as he will have to pay for his next unit, where prices will have moved up in tandem with current market conditions.

unless he's looking to downgrade to a smaller unit, to a less desirable location or to a resale HDB and keep the profits, then congrats to him again.

Yes its unfortunately his sole residential property and the next story will be more difficult. You have already mentioned the options he is considering.

    Maybe ppl here can advise?

@Ace: If I unknowingly bought at the peak I would be relieved to get out of jail. More or less explains why I am happy for him. Far East Bedok revervoir. Dunno which 1.

  4. Not intend to dwell into the specific such as development, size etc..

Just to have a feel of the real situation around us. Are we see more gain or loss, especially those who bot after 2010.

Congratulations to your colleague. Making 20% gain within a few years sounds impressive. Even after deducting interest and renov, still a good gain of over 10 percent.

Ya I am happy for him also if the potential gain he said is true. But I have no doubt it is the truth that he at least will not make a loss because of the launch prices of grandeur park and the upcoming tapestry.

For sure there will be wins and losses in investments and hope everyone is on the winning side here.

    Cheers.

  5. The way you described yourself portrays yourself as yaya papaya after the owner shouted at you.

I believe the owner would have let it rest if you had remained apologetic instead of taunting him "how you want to settle? claim me?"

Yes, car is just a transport to some, but some people treat it more than just a transport.

Just because you treat your car like sh1t doesn't mean others have to do the same.

I already apologised initially before the owner even alight from car. And once more after he alight from car and behave like ganster. Someone keep shouting at me for such a small incident should i grovel on the floor and beg for mercy?

But you are right. It could be I am yaya papaya.

Everybody's impression of the same matter can be different.

I would not say I am an angel and theres no need for me to convince I am right also. I simply dont care.

Just wanted to post here to say that while the person who knock your door is at fault, I think the way the victim react can be 3rd world also. Works both ways. 一个巴掌拍不响

  6. I just kena this the other day. I am the 1 in the wrong but the incident left a bad taste.

Accidentally open the door and hit the door of the car parked beside, aldy waved my hand to apologise (owner in the car), the owner behave like 3rd world also.. immediately come out of his car and shout at me... lol   Further insist that a scratch on his car door is due to me. (I dont think i hit his door THAT hard)

I asked him how we wanna settle? Wanna claim me for this shit?

He LL then bang his door against mine... like that he also songz.. When he bang his door against mine he also dont dare to bang hard... I also dunno whether to cry or laugh at him..

Driver was driving an AUDI. Pls hv some class.

If someone accidentally drop your phone, will u feel anything?

No right? Why? bcos the phone is just a thing to you and you can replace anytime.

Similarly a car is also just a thing and a means of transportation. Pls stop treating it like some kind of treasure bcos it is not and reflects that u cant afford to drive it also. (ok sorry I may have gone a bit far with this.)

  7. I know there are several brudders in this forum who have vested interest in property (no need to say who).

Why not share some real "huat/non huat" stories from the brudders here. I think we have read enough 'huat' articles from media. For sensitivity reason, you don't have to tell us exact $$ you have made/loss, just give in percent, the year you bought it, location, the year you sold it.

I don't have any story to share and I am still learning from the experts here. But I hope to hear some real examples instead of reading the same usual stuff from media. Perhaps I'll start with 2 real cases from my surrounding close friends.

    1) Bought in 2011; Sold in 2014; Location - West Coast; Loss ~5% mainly on SSD

    2) Bought in 2012; Sold in 2017; Location - Simei; Loss ~8%(didn't ask him exact amount)

    Anyone?

    Hi bro

But this info doesnt really help anyone without knowing whether

    - The seller is the first owner of the property

    - Which development

    - other details like room type

Whereas, if you really had to zoom in on something, stuff like the transacted price lodged with URA for a specific development specific unit size, transac date etc all freely available online. (Well some is not free but data is available without "hearsay")

I did have a colleague who buy at the "peak" (few years ago), a new development in bedok reservoir, typical 3 rm unit, approx. 1m at purchase and now looking to sell, based on current transacted prices he said will make more than 200k if he decide to sell. Probably a benefit of the tampines ave 10 first movers.

  8. @Pharme,

The Orlando wins hands down in interior space, with ample room in the 3rd row for adults, and low rd tax of a 1.4l.

Pick up could be sluggish with 7 pax on board, with the 138 horses under the bonnet having to move its 1650kg kerb weight. Equipment level is impressive.

Value for money for a Cat B MPV

I have PM you the sales person's contact

    http://www.sgcarmart.com/new_cars/newcars_specs.php?CarCode=11059

Another option you may wish to consider is the Toyota Wish 1.8 basic model, also going for $105K. Interior is smaller and it's a dated design & model, but with the proven reliability of the brand.

Really? hope you did a test drive. Most of the power of a small tc engine is developed in the low end.

Dont quite agree but I guess different ppl, different expectations on what is decent power.

HI Vinceng, could you give your impressions of the ride? I have read the general ones from reviews but surely from a real driver behind the wheels will have a somewhat different perspective. I am looking to test drive it tomorrow. I test drove the Carens 1.6 diesel, love it except for 2 factors, one is the 3rd row crampness for adults and second the road tax at 1.5k is putting me off. I dont drive that much, only clocked 80k in my i30 in the span of 7.5years, no dont see the point in paying that much for the tax. Orlando is making more sense to me in terms of dollars, cheaper to obtain as well as 650+ road tax. If your SE is great as you speak, do you mind sharing the contact with me? Thanks .

Carens middle row is 3 individual seats that can slide front/back while orlando is 2/1 split fold, cannot slide.

If you have young children can try thinking about how u wanna put the baby car seat.

  9. Never stayed in One U area so no comments on accommodation.

Frequently stayed in MV area, if driving, I feel is better to stay at Cititel rather than gardens. Reason is because Cititel has its own carpark while Gardens being the more exp hotel have to use mall carpark.

Gardens on the other hand is not that good for a 5 star hotel (well they also charge cheaper compared to your typical 5-star chain so guess its fair)

Mall wise, can't go wrong with either.

Main reason why family prefers to stay in MV is more due to "secure feeling". Like as if you are on a hill area away from the "danger" in downtown KL. Just a matter of perception..

  10. It's disappointing that they are "cheapening" the brand by bringing in lower end models. Insignia from 2. 0l previously to 1. 6l. Now 1. 0l astra.

For Alpine, Chevrolet is delivering much more numbers compared to Opel.

They probably trying to tweak the market position for Opel a little bit.

  11. The service person did not help me do any programming. Told me is due to camera cable! And that no stick to replace then. So few days back they called saying the stock is in. I will have to call them to fix the new cable and it shld resolved. I will keep u updated once they done the M&R.

Also another highlight... Check the tyres. My tyres' make is 2013..!! Rubber will harden in anyways even if is on the shelf!! Alpine didint want to change or justify that the tyres r not expired.

I got my tyres changed on the 2nd day after I collect car. - Reason being i found an embedded nail. Initially service side say want to patch, saying this is their SOP, but i kpkb to my SE until they changed to another new tyre. Maybe you should speak to your SE.

Alpine normally push all the multimedia and gps topics to the outsource local company who implemented the system. If u got issues with the gps media player etc let me know i pm u the manager number (hes not on site in alpine)

Tested and confirm the v9 will interfere the car remote. The effective distance is much longer after disconnecting the v9. Any solution?

Learnt something new today. Thanks and good luck.

  12. I have V9 as well. The remote effective distance is less than 20 meters. My old altis can response even at different storey. I will try disconnecting the V9 and see whether any difference.

Have the same car cam. How can a car cam affect a car alarm? makes no sense.

Having owned 3 chervolets in the family i can assure u that the stock remote alarm of a chevrolet is normally not that far.

I would expect that u need to physically "see it" to be able to trigger it. Use the remote to look for car? U can forget it.

  13. Hi bros. How is your gear box so far? Does it give your problem like stuck at certain gear sometimes?

Does turbo engine need to clear or clean carbon over time?

Good to hear that your trip to Kuantan is nice. How is the fuel consumption on your Orlando on the truck roads? Are you going by the coaster road like to mersing to pekan to kuantan?

Stuck in certain gear - Not really except those times where it is uphill. Being lightfooted i want it to upshift but it persists to hold at 2.5 rpm in a slope. Normally if you dont like the gear it is in you can just release accelerator a bit to upshift. No major issues for me so far.

Gearbox performs most straightforward and most beautifully when you have a standard traffic light move off situation. there you will feel the turbo kick in without turbo lag combined with fast clean shifting.

On the trunk roads I can only manage 11-12km/l on Msia Ron 95, avg 110km/hr and lots of downshifting and full throttle to overtake slower vehicles in single lanes.

I tried the NSH-Yong peng-segamat route and also the full coastal route from Kuantan - Pekan - Mersing - Kota Tinggi.

My avg driving in Singapore is also about 11-11.5. But in order to do that with the orlando u need to be lightfooted for sure. Got whack the turbo 1 sure cannot get.

  14. Of late, i also have to use all my might n full body weight to lower 2nd row seats. So i must remember to alert mechanic at imminent 10k servicing.

The catch must be fully pulled to make it easier. Might help,

  15. Went to Kuantan with the Orlando recently during the long weekend.

Nice cornering, quiet and stable ride on the Malaysia B roads at around 100-110 (2k rpm). Overtaking was also not too difficult with the engine though it gets a bit loud when dropping 2 gears during overtaking.

By folding 1 rear seat down, we could load enough for the trip, and have 8 passengers(3 young children) in relative comfort.

  16. I think iroadv9 built-in voltage cut-off is also set at 12v which I think is too low for our tropical climate. Battery voltage is higher in hotter climate.

12v maybe ok for countries with colder climate.

I am using Iroad given by my Alpine SE. What does the cutoff mean?

  17. Pardon me for asking... but do you get the vibe that Svc staff really hate their job... and they tend to just go through motion... with no sense of pride in what they do?

Mine reads 8.7L/100KM, after 20K which is about ~11.5KM/L

I'm a heavy footer with enhancements...

I think u gotta look for the right svc advisor. I did meet v helpful ones before.

Your FC v good for heavy footer. Make me feel like adding the "enhancement" also.. hehe

  18. May I check whether i can change the original factory fitted framed wiper to frameless type?

My ride is less than 6 months. The wipers need to be replaced now.

Anybody knows how to take out the rear wiper. The service advisor at Alpine motor said just pull out from one side. I doubt it will work.

    Orlando owners manual page 177

Didn't do it before, but from pictures, the front wipers is hook type, can change to those frameless with a catch in the centre for the hook.

The rear wiper arm I couldn't lift up to 90 deg during car wash. (only went up to 30 deg and cannot stop in upright position) Is this normal?

  19. If want to buy the current Malibu better get it now while stocks last coz tiagong the distributor is going to focus more on the Opel brand, I think they are going to bring in more Opel models. The Chevy brand is gonna shrink to just 2 models, one 1.6L sedan and one mpv.

Sounds v unlikely. Chevy is the volume driver for Alpine in Singapore, not Opel.
