Gaza has no aircraft, no ship, no tanks (apart from the few they captured). Nothing for the aircraft carrier to do. Really for show only.

More to warn nearby countries not to meddle in this war...

  2. Mine is a Pioneer HU.  So by right, the wirings should be already there.

Good to check the HU installation manual for the wirings and the HU package should include the critical wirings - I bought new Pioneer sets before.

  3. I'm sharing my first-time experience of changing my Honda Shuttle Hybrid spark plugs today:

    • Tools for spark plugs: 14 mm magnetic spark plug socket (about 5 cm), universal joint, short extension (about 15 cm) and torque bi-directional wrench set just above 20 Nm for tightening (cost about $50)
    • Tools for ignition coil screws: socket and normal small bi-directional wrench (cost about $10)

Based on the condition of the original iridium spark plugs, my recommended mileage to change is about 60k km.  Beyond that, the fuel efficiency starts to drop gradually due to the wearing out of the sparking tip and carbon deposits.

If possible change only after the engine has rested for > 1 hour as it is hot if you immediately change them after switching off the engine.  After changing, I let the engine idle for a while and drove around a bit to see if my new set of spark plugs was installed properly.

It will be cheaper and faster if I just bring my new iridium spark plugs to the workshop to change for about $30 labour cost.  However, I just want to learn something new in maintaining my car.

    Where are the dealers/workshop?

Many places are selling them.  Most avoid MIC label so you have to ask.

  5. After driving for a few days in wet weather, I find that the tyre grip is good.  I attribute it to the larger grooves and width (I moved from 185 to 195).  This new set of 4 is probably the better budget tyres I tried.  I got them for $270 net inclusive of new valves, balancing and installation.

  6. I just installed this set of Synergy H2 on my Honda Shuttle.  The tyres are harder than my previous Yokohama tyres and hence slightly more noisy but hopefully more durable.  The groves in the middle are quite wide, which should be useful in wet grip.  The dry and wet grips rating are in the photo below.

  7. @Extremme  I'm using Varta EFB M42 for my Honda Shuttle Hybrid.  It has been with me for close to 2 years already and is still going strong.  Recently, I installed a USB charging port in my car that also displays the voltage of the battery.  So I directly monitor it every few days.

  8. Six-hour queues shows painful reality of owning a Tesla at Christmas

It's no secret that Brits love a good queue, but even by these standards no one wants to be stuck waiting in line on Christmas Day.

Unfortunately, this was the situation facing many Tesla owners across the UK, who were left queueing for hours when they should've been at home eating mince pies and watching trashy TV.

  9. I also changed my clutch at another workshop for $180 labour cost but I also added about $60 for wheel alignment since the front suspension could be affected during the repair.  The clutch set was purchased in Malaysia for around S$80 only.  With most major repairs done over the past 1 year+, I guess my COE car is good to go for another 3-4 years.

  10. On checking the photos of the parts again, I guess the work involves the changing of the expansion valve, evaporator and condenser.  My dashboard had to be removed.

The other quotes I got from the workshop were quite slight cheaper than market rates so I guess the price is reasonable.  However, it is the overall quantum for the repair that is expensive.

I suppose once coolant start to leak, it is better to change out the very old parts in my COE car all at once rather than trying to change one part at a time to see if that works.

  11. I just changed my air-con valve and condenser and thoroughly flushed the piping system.  Thereafter, I topped it up with new air con gas and oil.  It costs me a whopping $830 😐

There was a leak and since it is an old car already, I might as well just change the old parts in case they fail again.  I hope it last me for many more years.

  12. I just changed my Vios clutch again after about 100k km.

The full set of Exedy clutch kit was about $100 while the labour cost was $180.

I also did realignment for $58.

I changed my gear oil just early last year, so I will change that again at the next servicing.

  13. Car loan interest rates in S'pore hit 2.78% after US Fed's latest hike

SINGAPORE - On top of rising car prices that come with record prices for certificates of entitlement, buyers of new cars here now have to fork out even more for loans.

Some banks and financial institutions have raised interest rates to 2.78 per cent. This is an increase of 0.5 percentage point from the 2.28 per cent interest rate reported in May.

Sugar is worse.  Have u cut sugar from your diet? Lole

Definitely.  Nowadays, it is very low or no sugar coffee or tea.  Dinner is no rice.

I go for 1-hour swim or 1.5-hour walk daily in the evening if the weather permits.

I think my metabolism is slowing again, so I will be increasing my swim to 1.25 or 1.5 hour...

    Which exact model?

Other than XM2+, I have shortlisted Dunlop FM800 and Goodyear ATM2. Have not seen any reviews of these 2 tyres installed on Shuttle.

Generally, those $75-$85 are good enough if you don't drive above 120 km/hour in dry weather or 100 km/hour in wet weather.  Another aspect is to change them before 50k km or maximum 3 years as tires harden fast in our hot weather.

The most important is to save and not to over-commit to big car or housing loan.

This is why good planning is a must.
Totally agree in no downgrade on spending and in fact higher spending in early years of retirement. Maybe first 10 yrs.

no change in ownership of cars.  My family car COE ends in 2027 and my personal car in 2029, will decide what to replace them with when the time comes.  Will have more physical activity like swimming and jogging at least 3-4 times a week and probably go on holidays every few months.

i also maintain a 7-8 yr cigar inventory which i will slowly reduce.  Its a high cost in the 6 figure zone.
also will target to sell some 10-20 Rolexes along the way until i am left with 10-15 which will be given away in the end to my loved ones.

    looking forward

Cigars are not good.  The Covid virus will still be around for a very long time.  The virus aims for the respiratory system.

And when will you be 65? In 10 yrs 20yrs?

if you are not 65 in 10yrs, i think you should comsider adjusting that number.  $3k covering everything per pax isnt gonna be much at all even if you are not a spender.

Using 20 years and 3% inflation rate as basis, $3k of spending power will mean this figure will be about $5.5k+ in future when I retire at 65.

This should be easily achievable from my passive income and CPF Life.

I also intend to move over to Johor for a more relaxed, greener and cheaper environment when I retire.
