    Kenwood DDX 917WS

The latest Android Auto v4.5.5928 ui is capable of supporting both left-hand and right-hand driving position. AA LHD: AA RHD: However, due to the absence of driving position setting for AA in 2017 DDX917WS, it defaults to LHD and thus the most important home app drawer button and recent app toggle button are on the extreme left making it hard to reach while the redundant mic icon button (because most steering wheel has one) is closest to us RHD drivers. I checked both 2018 DDX918WS and 2019 DDX919WS has a driving position setting. Not supporting AA driving position in older models is a major disappointment because firstly AA already reads driving position setting from head unit long ago even though the older ui did not differentiate LHD and RHD. Secondly, since it's a model sold with buttons on the right, at bare minimum, default RHD check value AA is looking for should be present. Last but not least, even Pioneer older models than 2017 already has this setting. I've suggested to Google to make driving position a selectable option within the app itself or even better make all buttons position customisable so that it does not have to go by driving position but knowing Google, this will take forever or never despite it being a worldwide issue affecting some other head units too. Thus I've also written to comsales@sg.jvckenwood.com to request for firmware update to provide driving position option. I would hope you guys do it too. If you know of a better email address than what I could find, kindly share it here.

You are welcome. If you haven't given up yet, can try approach other Kenwood dealers from this list. https://www.kenwood.com/sg/car/support/ Vision who has the Explorer GPS and also Android box mentioned earlier is listed. Also I understand from Kenwood manager, Wee Heng Auto is one of those preferred one. Or maybe approach Galactio cos since they provide technical support, they will know which is the better add-on models and refer you if they don't sell it themselves. http://www.galactio.com/main/contact.php Also make sure the hu firmware is updated. I would still recommend to use AA instead with Waze or Google Maps instead of dealing with the issues that comes with these add-on.

Oh maybe incompatible rather than don't support because it does have RGB 3rd Party Nav-Interface. For me I see it as a blessing that you can get a refund because once you know how to fully make use of AA voice command, you will not want to go back to frequent pressing of the screen. If data is a concern and your phone support dual sim, subscribe to TPG as it has free trial now. However, if you still prefer traditional way of navigation without data and voice control, I found this company during my research in 2017 so I'm not sure if it's still useful. http://www.vision-sg.com/ https://www.facebook.com/explorergps/photos/a.121533754549833/1118581328178399/?type=3&theater https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=1265820590121138

Don't say that cos lots of new users also expect AA not only support diff nav apps but also other apps in AA but unknown to them Google retains a tight control over these apps, some for commercial (Google also owns Waze) and others for safety reasons i.e mainly minimal distraction. These are the list of supported apps in AA. You can also browse the list from AA menu on the phone screen which is more convenient as you can also install them directly. If need to display unsupported apps on the head unit (besides rooting to install unsupported apps to run within AA) your Kenwood DDX917WS can support wireless miracast with 2-way control i.e. can control from either screen. Need to enable screen sharing on your phone. Different brands call it differently. Samsung call it SmartView now.

Hi @Luckcent, carloverguy2017 was referring to using Here Wego on the phone screen instead of inside AA as it works without data when driving in Msia. AA only supports Google Maps and Waze, both of which uses data. Google Maps do support offline map if you pre download the map and the last I tested still works offline in AA. To download offline maps, select the top left hamburger menu > Offline maps > Select Your Own Map > then zoom in or out depending on how large or small the area you'll be using. If you don't drive to JB or Msia then zoom just enough to cover Singapore. Offline map if I'm not wrong also acts as a cache when using online. For Waze there is no offline map option but that said, data usage is negligible even for Waze unless your mobile data plan is really limited. I don't monitor the data usage but the last I did was while after spending 3/4 of the day in JB and I only consumed 300mb inclusive using my phone normally for other stuffs. These day data roaming is cheap i.e. $5 for 1GB from various telco. I also subscribe to Digi Live card that allows me to reload and buy data plan using credit card so I can have uninterrupted navigation from Sg to JB rather than top up only when I reach there. RM8 for the card with RM5 credit available for use. Comes default with 300mb. Thereafter, various data plan cost only RM1 to RM3. Thus these days there is really no need to minimise data usage even when travelling. Furthermore, AA is best use with data for hands-free voice command and live traffic updates. Hope this helps.

Not sure too. Perhaps the test was not thorough enough (under shelter no signal lock or in open but stationary so GPS location does not change thus bug not trigger?) and will only magnifest while traveling since the bug stated in the article is one of timing i.e. "When GPS time is used for navigation, "a nanosecond error in GPS time can equate to one foot of position error".

Just googled for Galactio updates and among the first few result shows this. Not sure if it's related issue. https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/tech-show-central-pc-show-2019-394/update-galactio-navigation-software-6010081.html

Oh so the car already came with DDX917WS. In that case, the firmware might be outdated so is good to check and update. Use this link to get the firmware and update guide. If it does not help, likely is the Galactio module issue and yes they have to fix it else insist on refund. Link Auto boss Ah Put seems like a nice guy when I enquired about DDX917WS as well as Galactio module so hopefully things can be settled nicely for you. I was told his box (iirc he mentioned is black colour) is not from Galactio itself (grey colour) so I'm not sure how is Galactio software and its map updated. The map update I was referring that is not free is directly from Galactio and is somehow locked to the sd card. Hope this helps.

Not familiar with addon GPS module but if you are using a smartphone why not use Android Auto or Car Play? These 2 are so much better with live maps (Waze and Google Maps) without the need to pay for map updates.

@Mrmilktooth & @ashtaichee, Thanks. I returned the car without pumping based on what is common reserve in most cars

Any Mazda 2 Sedan (reg 2016) owner can advise how many litres left when fuel gauge light up (I think around 2 bars), 1 bar and no bars left? Driving a courtesy car as my car is in workshop and returning today don't want to be caught out. I took the car with the same fuel level but immediately pump so can't tell.

    Android Auto and Apple CarPlay

Honestly, I didn't keep track anymore but I know Google started blocking 3rd party addon around AA v2.9/3.0/3.1 through the app and then through Google Play Services. Meaning to say you have to roll back that far including Google Play Service to get it working without rooting and suffer the consequence of bugs so I'm not sure it's worth it unless it's not your primary phone but then again usually non primary phone will not be under warranty so rooting would be easier to get it working.

Can't work without root as far as I know because I also wanted to do that after my phone warranty expires.
