  1. Based on positive online reviews (should realise that some of them are probably fake), I engaged ceramic works to coat my front windshield and bonnet. They claimed to use a brand called kubebond.

Alas, it was a huge mistake! In less than a year, the windshield coating lost its effectiveness. Even at 80km/h, the water droplets still cling to the windshield. Also, ugly water spots start to appear on the windshield.

The paint coating also sucks! Mud stains which were cleaned off within an hour still left marks on the bonnet.

Their pricing is on the high side compared to other detailers, but their products are so shitty!

A word of advice - choose your detailer carefully. Don’t just look at online reviews because a lot of them are fake anyway.

  2. Here’s the update:

The workshop did a repaint of the 2 panels.

Although the colour matching is closer now (maybe around 80%), there is too much orange peel effect on the fender.

To conclude, the workmanship is terrible. Hence, those who are looking for a quality paint job should give it a wide miss.

    Result - Blacklisted

Those who are thinking of flaming me, you can save your breath because I am not gonna give a damn F and won’t reply at all. Especially to idiotic MIL jokes!

Aiya young man, take it easy. Let this go, and don't take things here too hard.

Most of us here fought each other over the years over different views and opinions, many left because they took it too hard. Those left behind are the tough ones, and after so many years we became friends, but not that we don't fight anymore,  we still do, we just let it go after that.

And most importantly, don't get personal,  that's the sure way to become IP man.

This thread even not lock also going no where. You not going to get anyone on your side anyway,  let it go and chill off.

Enjoy your stay, if you choose to stay. [laugh][laugh][laugh]

I appreciate that you shared your experience, now I understand better the dynamics of this forum.

don't worry, I am still very resilient.

My humble objective now is just to get my issue rectified by the workshop, which has been scheduled already.

Absolutely no desire to be Ip Man haha!

And so he starts fffing you with his hand signals.

    :D

The problem is people see the world but all they do is see themselves.

Kind and caring people see the world as kind and caring.

A holes only see the whole world as a holes.

So I must thank you for your stupid MIL jokes? And you can't take my joke about working harder? Double standard ya?

You must be having hallucinations... No one here talks about their status of "x" gears or how "old bird" they are. We share our tots here In a respectful way. We can disagree with each other and then move on. James love to Crack jokes about his mil and I love to share my love for mother land. We have fun and jokes.. That is it.  None of us have ever bragged about our x gears status. It's a good place to kill some time during work and getting up to speed on latest gossips or news.

respectful?? are you sure? how well do you know me to label me as "nasty and calculative"??

You want to talk about being civil and respectful, other people's upbringing and directing anger at others, when you typed all the above?

Honestly the thread was constructive for a few pages. Until you lost it when some folks started to disagree.

    Sarcasm works both ways.

  7. folks, i am just surprised that this thread will not die down since some of you think that it is "bo liao".

ok, it is not my desire to put people down, but some simply tried to trigger and taunt me again and again. even buddha also got temper.

i don't enjoy "war of words", but can there not be more constructive discussions in a forum? or is it a singaporean mindset to get a kick out of "suaning" people?? just go and read up some foreign forums and you know what i mean. indian car forum, for one, is much more civil and respectful.

although i am not obliged to clarify certain untruths sprouted by some people here, i will still do so.

firstly, the car is not a coe car, it's a late LCI model. i intend to keep it another few years, and hence would like to keep it in good shape (externally and mechanically). some of you treat the car as just a tool, nothing wrong with that, but different people got different values. there is no need to slam others for being different, it just shows the upbringing or lack thereof.

secondly, the changing of bumper was due to a minor accident which was not due to my fault. my expectation is just to restore the car back to the condition before the minor accident.

thirdly, i should not expect others to judge based on photos alone. as i have said a few times, there is a noticeable difference in shade under enclosed carpark lighting. it looks less obvious under natural lighting. so bottomline is - there is a difference. some of you will think that it's a small issue and just move on. again, nothing wrong with that. but if it can be rectified and improved, why not too? talk is easy when you are not in the situation yourself. tell me honestly, when you renovated your house, did you not ask your contractor to rectify some seemingly minor stuff? e.g. cabinet doors not fully aligned, new tiles with stains, water pipes not fully tightened, etc, etc.

fourthly, i have also mentioned that the workshop is willing to perform rectification. the manager came across as a rather honourable guy. so why the talk about having me "kan" the workshop? why have the assumption that i expect you to do something for me? i was just sharing my experience and got blasted for it. if that's the case, this forum will never grow and be respected.

i am not here to be "kan" by anyone, your spouse is the one that you should legally be "kanning". if you don't like the topic, you don't have to participate. don't think highly of yourself just because you are some old bird in the forum, that thing about "X gears" doesn't mean a shit to me.

anyway, you are free to say what you want and i am free to say mine. but if you want to "kan" me just because you don't like it, then you should look at yourself again in the mirror. are you directing your unhappiness at others just because you got scolded by your boss at work today?

We are happy to advice actually. Everyone has different expectations and of cos, this is more of a relationship between you and the workshop.

I'm lucky to have cars that were of darker shades so matching was a lot simpler. Maybe consider getting a black car in future.. harder to get that wrong. Enjoy the ride and take comfort that at least the workmanship looks ok and the workshop is willing to do something about it.

Yes, I read that black is easiest to match. Thanks for your understanding.

Old car already no one would notice. Either get it resprayed or move on. There are many better things to worry about/do.

As for me, I am happy my regular paint shop can pick up my car and send it back when the job's done the last few times someone brushed against it and needed 1/2 panels/bumper to be resprayed. I certainly didn't check the shades under various lighting condition.

When I/wify scratched the bumper, I just touched up with bottled touch-up paint. Truth is no one cares.

Thanks, I do hope I can achieve some of your mindset. Then I will be more at peace.

@bemywife alright, I think you have heard all the views and comments posted in this thread.  Do whatever you deemed fit.  I will not be posting further comments here.  Last parting words, don’t assume only you can drive a conti and question another person whether he can afford one without knowing his exact background.  Who knows he may be driving a more expensive and newer car than yours.

Yalah yalah, be my guest, school holidays coming. No wonder so many kids out on the loose.

To say shoddy workmanship you would expect a badly painted bumper.

If it was shoddy workmanship all of us would have come out and say so.

But its really a case of not matching 1000% the expectation of the TS.

    :D

I strongly suggest you make better use of your time to make more money instead of posting useless comments here. That way, you will be able to afford a continental. Just my 2c.

Make your MIL a bit more proud of you, ok?

Now I have an open mind and I learnt so much from all the people with a different view.

So because I have leant so much I thank you.

I also thank the TS for opening a thread that has brought so much entertainment.

Why is SG not a happy and relaxed place to live?

Its because people have no appreciation and gratitude.

All the people here trying to tell the TS something there is no appreciation and gratitude from the TS.

I can see what people are trying to say and I am thinking that's great wisdom.

Its obvious TS cannot see but that's his loss.

    :D

    Appreciation for? Gratitude for?

For a good lecture from wise men?

    Or for substandard work?

Or some people are just simply buay song that they are taking public transport while others are driving?

@bemywife Hi dude, even though a number of forumers including me has opined that the paint job is ok,  I think your mind is already fixated that the repainted part is different shade as the original paint.  Instead of gathering support or opinions thats are pleasing to your eyes here, just repaint the whole car and move on with your life.  This is just a trival things and there are many other better and more important things to focus our mind on.  No hard feelings.

    Yes, no hard feelings.

The options available to me are clear.

Whether it’s trivial or not, it’s personal and subjective.

Aiyah. He wanted support that he was right in that the workshop screwed up but in the end didn’t get the support what he wanted.
forumers were also smart to notice that only one indoor shot was posted and no outdoor one was posted till much later when asked. Even he himself admitted that in outdoor, one can hardly see the diff.
so  now Kenna called out…. Buay song lor! 😂

Just to set the record straight, I am not asking for affirmation here. Anyone is free to agree or disagree.

Your disagreement does not bother me a single bit.

Can people see things in perspective here?

You like to talk about Ukrainian war, you can go to another forum. This is a car forum, and I can’t talk about car related matters?

You can say what you like, but others can’t?

Anyway, nobody is compelling you to comment in this thread. Or you just want to chalk up your posting number?

AD workshop is like that one. Tell them do A, they do B.

    Worst still, carrot prices.

Very true about carrot prices, that's why I only did oil change with them and the next one will be the last. Bigger repairs go elsewhere.

But outside workshops also got greatly varying standards. Can't rely on reviews too, as many are fake reviews.

I think it's high time to regulate the car repair business, same goes for renovation contractors.

Let’s not forget this is the bumper. Even if the exact colour matches, the road grime and dust from daily driving and especially in this rainy weather would unbalance the match anyway.

But to each his own. And definitely he is entitled to do this. It’s his car.

Personally, if it were me, I would accept it as it is. Got more important things in life than to worry about differing paint shades.

I have seen a witty comment somewhere that the bumper will fade faster than other metal panels, so in a few years' time, when it's time to sell, it will match with the others. On the other hand, if try to achieve a perfect match now, in a few years' time, it will not match with other panels due to its faster fading.

Your advice on prioritisation does have its merit, but you also rightly pointed out that each car owner has different ways of handling the same issue.

I am not saying that this is a super critical matter, but if the delivery is not up to standard, then a rectification should be in order. Just like if I did a lousy job, I don't expect my boss to close one eye and say "It's ok, no worries, be happy".

If majority of customers are so accommodating, then it will only encourage more slipshod work by these workshops.
