  1. I agree with u that its personal preference to choose something mechanically simple.

Notice I mentioned TS should consider getting something more reliable and nothing else?

Personally, I feel safety is more important than having an unpredictable premium ride. I can empathize with TS. If I paid such a high cost, I would have high expectations.

Ultimately, TS will have to decide if its worth fighting SA or move on.

There really isn't much choice for "mechanically simple". Like it or not, modern cars are loaded with electronics. You can choose to have a manual transmission, but don't forget that the modern engine is loaded with electronic monitoring and control systems. And good luck trying to find a car with hydraulic powered steering.

It's up to a point that nowadays workshops don't do much human diagnosis anymore, they plug the car to a computer and it tells them the faults.

  2. Yes looks definitely higher than the BMW 2GT. Sitting higher means better thigh support which is important esp for adultsð

Not hard to achieve. The 3rd row seats in the 2GT is probably one of the lowest seats I've ever seen in a car. Well...other than the front seats in supercars. Lol.

  3. Test drive can't go to BKE/PIE or CTE/havelock exit to try. Hahaha. Test drove usual AYE route, seems ok.

Lol. If you can't tell the difference, means you didn't drive hard enough. Hahaha. Anyway, like Pohhenry mentioned, maybe can consider the x2 if you are concerned about handling.
  4. I am not those who will drift but a properly balanced car give me very good confidence going into a corner and out...e.g. the BKE to PIE band and the CTE to havelock exit. The tailgating taxis can never follow me through. ð Hahaha.

I can accept slightly lower handling (go slower lor) but not too big a drastic change from f30. Also thought of changing as nvr owned a suv b4 plus also for aging parents getting in out of car. Dilemma. Ha.

With the higher CG in the x1, definitely more body roll when cornering. Laws of physics. Plus with the FWD in the x1, it will be a very different feeling when you accelerate out of the turn. Best to test drive and see for yourself whether you can accept the "downgrade". Hahaha.
  5. Oh really? Only from 2017. Thought x1 started from 2015 and already had it.

On handling, I am afraid I will regret big time switching from f30 to x1, especially after I put f30 on 18". The only thing is I have never tried an suv and now the overtrade is delicious. Tough decision. Hahahha.

    Thanks bro.

Yes, before 2017 was the 6 and 8 spd aisin gb.

Some variants of x1 also come with 18", but that's not the key point. But if you are serious about handling, better stick with RWD sedan cars unless you go for Macan or X3M. Lol.

  6. X1 bros, any issues on your rides especially on the DCT? Any bros transited from a 3 series to X1? Do you miss the handling of the 3?

    Appreciate your sharing.

A bit too early to tell because DCT launched end 2017. But so far seems not as bad as VW DSG.

On handling, it depends on how particular you are. For sure the F30 3 is much better because lower CG and RWD. The new G20 3 should be even better.

  7. I mean 4.x seconds. Pretty impressive

True, the torque of 350nm. When you switch on the power display on the idrive, normal driving utilises very little of the horsepower, the torque on the other hand moves in big increments. Turbo Diesels of 3 litres would be just nice in terms of stop start traffic. The clatter of the modern diesels are much more muted than before but still noticeable and doesn't sound as nice as their petrol counterparts.

Geez. Minimum 250hp and now 3.0 diesel to be "just nice"? I was thinking that 1.4-1.6 turbo diesels should be decent in SG roads. Hahaha you guys are really in a different league. Lol.

  8. Actually 250bhp is very nice to zip around on singapore roads. Overtaking is easy and driveability is good.

Had an F10 528i. My first car in excess of 200bhp. Pulls pretty hard for a big and heavy car like that. Had really mediocre brakes though. Haha

Your 528 accelerates well because of the torque from the turbo. Actually in SG, torque is more useful than hp. So actually diesel is best here. Too bad it's a bit noisy and not as clean as the Europeans thought.
  9. It is actually a long story, I had planned to buy the Alphard 3.5SC and I was doing my sums so I had a good idea of my monthly 2 car expenses, was going to the PI to put the downpayment in 2 days time and this day, had a family outing with a good buddy of mine and he had gotten a F90 M5 Non Comp.

I have always resisted test driving the F90 simply because I knew I would fall into temptation but on this day, I thought why not, getting the alphard was so called a done deal and I wouldn't be tempted. Tested, WOW! The 540 itself in stock form is already a highly capable 4 door sedan, the F90 blew me away. Well I started thinking about the F90 abit more but still wasn't that tempted to get the car YET!

All the above took place on a sunday, the coming tuesday would be the day I would be meeting the PI to put downpayment for the car. On monday, my sales at PML/PMA informed me, Dear Sir, we have one unit of the F90 M5 Comp incoming, the car is expected to touch down mid to end Apr, would you be interested to get this? Strange! I did not enquire about the F90 at all! but still, I went down, negotiated and was offered a really good deal!

BUT as the whole thing ended, I found out that my sales had actually texted the wrong person with the same name! He had another customer with the same name that went for a few test drives on the F90 but never got round to buying it.

Maybe this is what you call fate haha. I apologise for the long story, but I thought it is kinda interesting to share why I got this car. It's really fate haha.

Really meant to be. Same name mixup also can. Lol.

Must buy 4D also. Huat ah!

  10. Supercars are more for show, the looks and sound. Although they might have the same go as the current crop of e63 or M5. Given their prices, less people will wring them out.

In daily commute in Singapore. All you need is about 250hp. Yes more power is always welcome, but I think 330i is at the sweet spot of reasonable taxes and decent amounts of go.

Wah, your standard quite high bro, 250hp nia. Liddat 80% cars no need to drive liao. Hahahah.

  11. Haha I guess they are concerned about how I am spending my money and they hope I can spend it on something more value for money.

Yes, I'm spending it on what I have always desired. Its like my holy grail.

Thanks Douglam! I hope I will like it as I have not yet seen a comp in the flesh let alone driven it. No demo models available for test drive from what I was told. Many differing opinions from the many online reviews, I thought heck, since I am already spending this amount of money, I might as well get the best spec. Looking forward to delivery.

LOL. You should REALLY change your friends. NOW. If want value for money, please drive a Camry.

I fail to see Porsches to have more value with their crazy lists of options. Plus some "options" are actually must haves, unless you want to drive a crippled Porsche. Options are nice to have, but always have zero resale value in SG.

Anyway, the word "value" is irrelevant at this level. Just go with your heart.

Cannot go wrong with a M5 lah. Many M5 wannabes out there with the bodykits. Hahaha.

  12. Thanks Turboflat 4. I will be looking forward to clocking 2000km, get the engine, front and rear differential oils changed, bring up the revs progressively before giving a proper review. Will most probably be doing an amateur photoshoot first.

I ordered the eventuri intake kit and also considering the KW HAS kit to lower the car properly.

After looking at many reviews on the comp package, it would seem the comp would be the proper M5 in my opinion especially if one looks at the occasional track duty from time to time.

The 4WD looks to be a game changer in terms of traction and track timings. I know many purists frown at M utilising 4wd but with ever increasingly more powerful powerplants, the change to 4wd seems inevitable.

Lately, a few close friends got to know that I am changing to the M5 comp, inevitably and understandably a few questioned my rationale at spending such money on a BMW 4 door sedan rather than maybe a Porsche Panamera 4S. When I was not in the financial position to consider such a car, I would also question the rationale of such a decision, after driving a friend's F90 non comp, I was blown away. It is a special car compared to the Panamera which I also had a brief drive not too long ago. Unless I am able to comfortably afford a Panamera Turbo, to me, getting the M5 Comp is a no brainer. Badge aside, the M5 Comp is highly capable at this price point. It is a Supercar in modern standards with all the bells & whistles and yet the practicality of a 4 door. I can't yet afford a Exotic at this moment so maybe the M5 is attractive to me at this point of my life but I am confident this car will exceed my expectations.

I would be sharing more insights once I take delivery which is expected by mid may.

You should change friends. Shows that they know nothing about Porsches. Lol

Most importantly is buy what you like, unless your friends are paying for your car. Hahaha

Congrats on your wonderful car. Enjoy!

  13. Hi......wat do u guys get on the fuel comsumption? I managed only 8.4km/l.....city driving. Comfort mode most of the time. And i turn off the annoying start stop as it (engine) turns off even when waiting to exit carpark gantry.....on 20i. I was expecting better than my old jazz which managed 10km/h

Heavy car + city driving confirm jialat one. Laws of physics.

  14. Ya , find the seats damm hard and thin and without lumpar support at all .

Frankly speaking , i think all the talk about BWM drive and handling , very over rated lor .

As i normally do not test drive the cars that i buy , think soon will see a almost new X3 in the market liao

Was still thinking of changing it to the X3 M when it hits our shore , hence brought the X3 xdrive to try out first .

BMW is not known to have comfortable seats. Merc (E class and above), Volvo, Lexus and even Infinity has better seats than BMW.

Typically M cars will be more track/sports oriented, so will be worse in terms of comfort.

  15. Will consider

But the fuel consumption really sucks?

All my previous mazdas suck, ok my rotary engine one not counted but even normal one also suck

    Is it better now?

In general, the FC of Mazdas has improved with the Skyactiv engine. As for the cx-9, it is quite a big car, so if you mostly do city driving, it won't be good.

    I love Mazdas too. Lol.

  16. Hi guys, is the 3.0i xline worth the extra $25k over 2.0i xline? Not the M Sport variant. OMV about $9k difference.

In SG, any model above the barebones is not worth it. If you disagree, congrats to you! Lol.

  17. Saw it in the flesh and heard great things about the CX-9. How different is it from the other cx?

Sat in a test drive once. I think the chassis is very stiff and the insulation is much better than the other cx, so the road noise is very little. The seats are also more plush and comfortable than the other cx.

Very decent 7 seater SUV if you don't mind the badge.

  18. got this error message after parked my car for whole day at the office,

(similar picture I took off the internet, not exactly mine)

    hqdefault.jpg

Weird, never happened to me before even when I left my car untouched for 2 weeks when I was overseas.

after driving it home and this morning restart the engine, the message is gone.

    Anyone else have similar encounter?

Maybe alternator issue. Anyway, just continue to monitor first.
