I meant the altis gearbox. Go for a rebuild instead of a recon. Some recons are just 2nd hand boxes taken off other cars which is a gamble.

Ah sorry, i mean rebuild, properly serviced and repaired type

Technically speaking.  There is nothing wrong with using labour to exchange for income.

But quite Sad After 3 generations.  They might end up doing what my dad ( a farmer) is doing. 🙄

I am also a labourer, just at slightly higher cost though.

    i got 2 options.

    1. Renew my Accord COE next January. Forgo the PARF of 16k+.
    mileage <130k km so far.

    2. Buy a 7-8 year camry. drive for a few years, then either renew or buy new. But 2.5L camry the road tax will be bit chor.

my elantra coe up in may '28.

You can assess based on depre of a 7 year camry vs a worst case 3 year renew  accord coe , how much the annual diff will be. The plus is you know your accord history, plus if you can stretch  your accord for 1 or 2 more years , your depre will be even lower. But no need to compare to the last cents, just go with your feeling, dont forget you got a very cheap elantra in 2018, we know hor. 🤣

It makes sense to use your 2 to 3 years assumption, COE will either come down then, or if not,  we will have to stick to high COE, which will affect our plan.

Why not fully rebuild. Recon boxes can be dubious

Backside itchy mah, w213 looks more rounded.  But anyway, dropped the idea lah, went to queen's test driven an e250 but wife confiscated my check book. 🤣 not that i am worried about repair cost or rebuid.no matter how, $35 k coe for 10 years is damn cheap, no one can dispute.

Both your cars still have option to continue to renew coe once reached 10th year right?

Thought toyota quality not bad? 15 year old gearbox leak oil liao? But toyota car parts quite cheap, even change should not be a big issue.

Yes i renew both with 10 years COE.

my son went to ask a workshop, replacing with a recon gearbox would cost  about 1.8k, that is quite cheap.  with same day downtime, lets see how it goes. Meantime the car is still kicking and alive. The one has  got more problem is the e200 but still worth renewing.

My friends Vios is reaching year 15 this year …mileage is 250k ++.car is still very good condition and drive able but unfortunately he did only 5 years PQP only ……. so mati mati have to scrap

Wah what a  waste , fortunately the Parf for vios  is less than 10k like my altis, so it is still fine to write off over 5 years.

I just renewed my car COE paying PQP premium about $98k for Lexus ….. Enjin is so far kinda trouble free and quite reasonable/ reliable to maintain

Wise move, after a few years if you decide to get rid of the car, worst case you will still have good balance coe to get back.

My two COE cars are both 15 year old now, so far no regrets.  Recently trying to change one to a 8 year old w213 so that in 2 years time can hopefully start my COE renewal jourbey but wife said dont backside itchy.

The altis now mileage at 348die,die,die, gearbox started to leak oil, time to service gearbox. Still very cheap....cheapo i mean.🤣

Aiyah…. Why you “teach” then we will have less contributors to nation building everyone renews.

Who am I to qaulify to teach, I am trying to learn how to flip car and money from time to time, i start with flipping COE car first😄

Surprisingly Cat B only increased $600 plus?! Not many people buy Cat B at car expo? Cat A increased $5k, consider predictable surge. 😂

No surprise,  there was once COE for  B&B  car was higher than COE for Ferrari.

When u change car, u not only paying the extra for the parts and warranty... Most of the money goes into 'renewing' the COE.

When you change car, you pay for high ARF, huge deaer profit, excise tax etc.

Renew COE is the best, write off PARF which only 50% of ARF, much lower dealer margin, no excise tax. 🤣

Want to talk about saving then better dont buy new car, want to buy new car  then must have no fear of all the mentioned.

Should wait for good deals at car expo to change?

In sgp, buying car is depending on how deep one's pocket is, if want to wait for good deal, then one should wait for a lower COE cycle, that would give one better deal. Some may say COE will not drop, but if one is willing to wait, never say never.  I am waiting for coe to drop so that i can renew my COE...again, that is my good deal 🤣
