Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/723128/alpine-a290-debut-specs/ Alpine won't be coming to the United States until 2026. In the meantime, Europeans are in for a treat. The new A290 competes in a rarified segment of electric hot hatchbacks, joining the likes of the Abarth 500e, Volkswagen ID.3 GTX, Cupra Born VZ, and the lesser-known MG4 XPower. Essentially a high-performance version of the reborn Renault 5, Alpine's first EV aims to make electric cars more fun to drive. The new Renault 5 already looks great but the Alpine version adds a bit of aggression to the stylish city car. It features the French brand's signature quad light theme with an "X" motif, reminiscent of old rally cars. Historically, tape was used to protect the lights in case of an accident. It helped keep the shattered glass pieces together, preventing them from scattering on the road. Compared to the resurrected R5, the more athletic derivative is nearly two inches wider and has larger 19-inch wheels as standard. This is still a diminutive EV, at just 157.0 inches long, 71.6 inches wide, and 59.8 inches tall. It’s slightly longer and lower than the donor car while having a 2.3-inch wider track. For an electric car, it’s relatively lightweight, tipping the scales at 3,260 pounds. Much like the Abarth 500e, the new Alpine A290 is a front-wheel-drive affair. The other electric hot hatches we mentioned earlier send power to either the rear wheels or to both axles. Alpine sticks to a single motor mounted at the front and offers the hardware in two states of tune. The base and GT Premium trims make do with 174 horsepower. Step up to the GT Performance or the GTS and the e-motor is dialed to 215 hp. With 221 pound-feet of instant torque, the feisty EV hits 62 mph in 6.4 seconds. Echoing the regular Renault 5, the A290 has a multi-link independent rear suspension, which is quite rare in this segment. Alpine tries to make the car more agile by mounting bespoke anti-roll bars at the front and rear. The niche brand worked with Michelin to develop three model-specific tires: Pilot Sport EV for the summer, Pilot Sport S5 for wet and dry roads, and Pilot Alpin 5 for cold weather as well as for wet, and snowy roads. Consistent performance is touted, without any power loss even if you’re running low on battery. The Alpine A290 will be sold exclusively with a 52.0-kilowatt-hour pack offering enough juice for an estimated 236 miles of range. With support for DC charging at 100 kilowatts, it takes half an hour to “fill up” the battery from 15 to 80 percent. If you're in a hurry, spending 15 minutes at a charging station will be enough for about 93 miles of range. Stopping power is supplied by front Brembo brakes with four-piston red or blue calipers borrowed from the A110, the company’s mid-engine sports car. Alpine gifts the A290 four driving modes: Save, Normal, Sport, and Perso. While the first three are self-explanatory, the latter is an individual mode allowing drivers to choose their preferred settings. You can tweak the throttle response, steering assistance, the fake engine noise, and the ambient lighting. The Alpine Driving Sound is not artificial engine noise per se, but rather the high-frequency sounds of the electric motor. As with the exterior, Alpine has made the effort to spice up the cabin compared to the Renault 5. Aside from the body-hugging front seats, the A290 has a flat-bottomed steering wheel and a red button behind the right side of the steering wheel. That OV ("Overtake") button enables maximum performance. On the left side, the blue RCH ("Recharge") rotary knob lets you choose the desired recuperation level. For a sportier ambiance, Alpine installs D, N, and R buttons on the center console. You won't find them on the Renault model, which also lacks the metallic pedals and footrest. The 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.1-inch touchscreen are shared between the two models, but the A290 uses more exciting graphics. Alpine isn't disclosing pricing details. We reckon it commands a significant premium over the standard Renault 5, which starts at €33,490 ($36,200) at home in France. The A290 sadly won't come to the United States in 2026 when the brand launches here. Instead, we're getting an electric replacement of the A110 coupe, with a convertible to boot. An SUV will follow in 2027, joined by a swoopy sedan a year later.

Honestly, a SUV is the least I am expecting from the French maker since their forte is with light weight sport cars. But if Lotus could have the Eletre, why not for Alpine? Although it's only a concept at this stage but a production version will follow next year, said Alpine. Just like Ferrari is refusing to call the Purosangue an SUV, Alpine doesn't use the acronym too. Instead, it's a "sport fastback." The sloping roofline make it look like the SUV had a one night stand with a coupe. As this is only a concept, the Renault-owned marque can get away with not giving the A390_β a conventional B-pillar. However, that won't be the case for the production model. In addition, the suicide doors won't make it to production as well. Alpine does promise the final car will retain around 85% of the exterior design though. Technical specifications are limited at this point but from the rumors mill, the production model will feature three electric motors, with one sitting at the front and the other two at the rear, enabling all-wheel drive. It won’t be a permanent AWD setup, which suggests the front-mounted motor can be decoupled for a more tail-happy experience. Active torque vectoring is promised for a more engaging drive. The A390 will be the second EV from Alpine, following the A290 hot hatchback. The latter is essentially a high-performance version of the reborn Renault 5. There are also plans for an A310 coupe, a bigger four-seat sports car to take on the Porsche 911 but with an electric setup. By the end of the decade, Alpine intends to have no fewer than seven EVs in its growing lineup. A supercar was recently confirmed and it'll either be entirely electric or will feature a hydrogen-fueled combustion engine.

https://www.thedrive.com/news/42877/french-police-getting-alpine-a110-patrol-cars-for-rapid-intervention-duty "French Police Getting Alpine A110 Patrol Cars for ‘Rapid Intervention’ Duty The mid-engined sports cars will be used primarily for rural patrols. Police vehicles are normally fairly regular cars. Typically, four-door sedans and SUVs get outfitted with all the law enforcement gear, with plenty of room in the back to stow people in handcuffs. Every now and then, however, a police force lays its hands on something a bit special. The National Gendarmerie in France have done just that, ordering a fleet of Alpine A110 sports cars, as reported by Motor1. The National Gendarmerie is one of France's two national police forces, and is charged with the policing of smaller towns, rural, and suburban areas. The force will order 26 examples of the Alpine A110 Pure, as per a French-language press release from the Ministry of Interior. The vehicles will be used to "carry out interventions on the motorway involving high-speed offenders, as a part of road safety or other police missions." The Alpine A110 is a fine choice for an interceptor vehicle, combining deft handling with quick acceleration. Sporting a turbocharged 1.8-liter engine good for 249 horsepower, the A110 can accelerate to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. It should prove more than capable of apprehending the average Peugeot hatchback that decides to make a dash for freedom. Unlike out-and-out supercars, the Alpine A110 is also relatively affordable, coming in at €58,400 Euros, or roughly $68,000 USD for a base model in France. Alpine's parent company Renault won the supply contract in an open tender, and the vehicles are to be customized by French vehicle conversion company Durisotti. Thus, police are probably paying a fair whack over the base retail price in order to get the cars fitted out as needed. The hot police car trope is a well-worn one at this point; some are merely for show, while others actually head out on patrol. Florida's Highway Patrol famously put a Mercury Marauder into service, while police in Japan have often found the Nissan GT-R to be a useful platform. More often than not, however, these vehicles primarily serve as a public relations tool rather than a day-to-day police vehicle. However, given that the National Gendarmerie have ordered 26 A110s, it seems more likely they'll be doing plenty of real work out and about in rural France. You'd want to be in something suitably quick if you're planning to drop a gear and disappear, but remember: you can't outrun a radio."

Renault could kill the Alpine A110 after just three years source: https://uk.motor1.com/news/424665/renault-closing-alpine-a110-factory/ The company is looking to cut costs. Renault, like many automakers right now, are looking to cut costs to survive the coronavirus pandemic. The French automaker, part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, is preparing to unveil a cost-cutting plan that, according to a new report from Automotive News Europe, calls for the closing of several factories. One of those possible closures is Renault’s Dieppe, France, plant where it builds the limited-production Alpine A110 sports car. This could put the A110 out to pasture just three years after its introduction at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The factory employs about 400 people, according to the publication, and it’s one of the company’s smallest factories in the alliance. The report doesn’t say if Renault plans to move A110 production out of Dieppe, though in September 2018, the company had a 14-month waiting period for the new car, at the time increasing output from 15 to 20 cars a day. The news comes just months after Renault introduced the Alpine A110 Legende GT earlier this year, which the company is limiting to only 400 examples. It followed the two-wheel-drive race car version revealed last year and a crossover-coupe concept. However, with Renault looking to cut €2 billion (£1.8 billion) from its budget, everything is likely on the table. Earlier this year, Renault CEO Clothilde Delbos said there’d be “no taboos” to cutting costs, according to the publication. Gallery: Alpine A110 Legende GT

A road-going version of the Alpine A110 GT4 has been spotted going around Nurburgring. The prototype is set to get more power than the base variant. As reported by Carscoops, the prototype was photographed wearing a livery inspired by the GT4 race car but is noticeably less aggressive as it eschews the ventilated carbon fiber hood and adopts a smaller front spoiler. Also noteworthy is a smaller wing on its boot that says “A110 GT4” If this road-legal version of the A110 GT4 comes true, the car could be loosely based on the A110 Cup that comes with a track-tuned suspension with adjustable Ohlins shock absorbers and a 40mm lowered ride height and a magnesium Brembo braking system. The engine remains largely the same but will likely get a boost in power for the GT4 to a possible 266bhp or more.

Alpine's remake of the A110 has been a success so far with sales worldwide doing well while garnering good reviews with journalists everywhere. Thanks to its lightweight construction, its modest (249bhp) power output hasn't hampered its acceleration prowess but the french manufacturer reckons its about time the car get a more powerful version. According to French publication DownShift, the car will be getting a new variant with 296bhp and 400Nm of torque. While it is very much just a rumor, this might hold some truth as the Megane R.S. Trophy that has yet to arrive on our shores has the same power output. With the increase in power, the faster variant of the A110 is likely to do the sprint to 100km/h in around 4 seconds, approximately half a second faster than the standard A110. Meanwhile, on our shores, we have received news that the A110 will make its debut at the upcoming Singapore Motorshow.

In order to reduce waiting times that currently stretch to more than a year, Alpine has finally decided to increase A110’s production numbers. The lightweight 247bhp coupe has been a success so far, with the company having already received 5,000 reservations for the A110 after 1955 units of Premiere Editions sold out. These cars were sold out in less than five days. In an interview with Automotive News, Alpine’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Regis Fricotte, said that due to the high demand, waiting time has grown to 14 months. To solve this problem, the Dieppe factory will increase production to 20 cars a day, from the current 15. Interestingly, despite it being a commerical success, Renault has refrained from increasing production numbers further. 'Currently, our first priority is quality - and our second and third. Then we talk about quantity,' said Sebastien Erphelin, Alpine’s interim Managing Director. Alpine has since built 1,200 units since production of the A110 Premiere Edition started last year in December.

The Alpine A110 has been getting raving reviews all round the world as a sports car. Can the BMW M2 with the revised set up of its Competition pack be better? Now with both small coupes in the market, the answer isn't so clear. So which of these is the best alternative to the Porsche? Burning Alpine A110 nearly kills Chris Harris and Eddie Jordan
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Chris Harris and Eddie Jordan managed to escape from a fiery Alpine A110 during the filming of a Top Gear episode. According to The Daily Mail, the two of them were in the small coupe on a closed section of the Monte Carlo Rally’s SS17 stage when the car's engine management light came on. After stopping the car, Harris opened the door and saw flames coming up his arm. Both of them jumped out of the A110 immediately before it was engulfed in flames. It only took four minutes for the Alpine to be totally destroyed by the fire. “Sadly the car was lost and it always makes me sad to see a beautiful car destroyed,” Harris said. Alpine was later quoted saying that there was a "technical incident" during filming and is in the midst of investigating. In the meantime, it announced that it has "frozen all driving activities for pre-production cars". -
According to this Henry Catchpole from Carfection, the Alpine A110 is a better sports car than the Porsche 718 Cayman. And they aren't the only one claiming that this new small coupe going to be one of 2018's highlights. Based on a new aluminum platform with double wishbones all around, the car has been made to handle and instead of chasing for lap times. Believing in the mantra 'less is more' the engineers opted for passive dampers instead of adaptive ones, with hopes to give the A110 the best possible feedback and handling possible. With only just 1080kg to move around, the car is no slouch even though it only has' mere' 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. It makes 247bhp and 320Nm of torque, allowing the car to hit 100km/h from standstill in 4.5 seconds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=346&v=tROkW3iWhek

Renault unveils the Alpine A110-50 at the Monaco GP
FaezClutchless posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
After several rendered leaks on the internet, Renault has finally revealed the much awaited Alpine A110-50 concept car. The car will make its debut during the 2012 Monaco Grand Prix. The Alpine A110-50 is a tribute to the 50th anniversary of the legendary Alpine Renault A110 Berlinetta rumours are that the car will mark the return of the Alpine brand. The Alpine A110-50 concept adopts much of its styling from another Renault concept car which is the Renault DeZir that was showcased during the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The reason why Renault borrowed much of the DeZir's styling instead of creating something similar to the A110 Berlinetta is due to the fact that they do not want to create a retro-styled show car. The engine used in the Alpine A110-50 is a 3.5-litre 24-valve V6 engine that generates around 400bhp at 7200 rpm and 412Nm of torque at 6200rpm. Additional performance figures were not released by Renault but the automaker has indicated that power is sent to the rear wheels through an F1-styled sequential gearbox with six forward gears. The driver can change gears with the shift paddles, mounted behind the steering wheels. A limited slip differential is installed into the car but it does not have modern driving aids such as ABS and ESP. Braking is assured by six piston callipers at the front and four piston callipers at the rear. The A110-50-

Dear Alpine Navi GPS map users, Bought this headunit around 3-4 mths back for my Alphard and was disappointed that the GPS was relatively outdated, did not even have MCE. (think its 2013 or 2104 map). As advised by my installer, he said that I can buy online and installed it myself (via the headunit SD card). Today, surf the alpine website to find out how to update, also check malsingmap, in the end was prepared to pay for it (around US80, more ex at US120 if include Thailand) but alpine website advised me to install this software to check whether there is enough space in the SD card. https://alpine.naviextras.com/shop/portal/downloads Realised that the programme actually detected that I have a 2015 Q2 free update - inside my SD card! By clicking it, viola, my map now updated! Hence, pls do not pay/buy gps map update until you downloaded the above and check for any free update available. Other tips 1) pls peel off the plastic covering the SD card carefully using some simple tools, was using my fingernails, almost damage it 2) create a backup of the SD card into your PC, just in case the update does not work still happy no need to pay a single cent, and not sure why the installer was not aware abt it.

Alpine's upcoming sports car could use Mercedes-AMG engines
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
According to Auto Express, the production version of the Alpine Vision Concept could be using a Mercedes-AMG engine to power the car. As of now, the company has not decided on what to put into its coupe but Renault's executive VP for product and planning, Bruno Ancelin, suggested that Alpine could turn over to Mercedes for their engines, citing Aston Martin's DB11 as a successful example which is using AMG's V8 now. Renault's boss didn’t say what engine the Alpine brand might choose to buy but rumors around suggest that the six-cylinder 3.0-litre turbo used in the recently launched C43 might be a good fit for cars coming after the production of the Vision Concept. As for the Vision-based sports car, it is expected to use a larger version of the 1.6-liter turbo mill found on the Renault Clio RS. -

In May 1913, James Radley set off from Brown's Hotel in London's Mayfair for a famous motoring adventure - the 1913 Alpine Trial. A century later, the same Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost has returned - ready to depart for a re-enactment of the event. Forming the modern day Rolls-Royce Works Team, Radley's car will join a contemporary pioneer, a 2013 Alpine Trial Centenary Collection Rolls-Royce Ghost on a faithful re-enactment of the rally in June this year. But the Works Team will be accompanied by more than 40 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts - many over a century old to traverse over 1,800 miles of Alpine roads. The rally will start in Vienna on 14th June 2013, and will pass through Italy, Croatia and Slovenia before returning to Austria's capital for a special evening hosted by Margraf Pallavicini at his Palais, exactly 100 years to the day since the finale of the original Alpine Trial. Taking in some of Europe's finest and most challenging mountain roads, the rally will meet with a group from the Rolls-Royce Enthusiasts' Club at Riva Del Garda, Italy, on Friday 21st June where 100 historic Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts will assemble for the largest gathering of its kind in history. The Rolls-Royce Silver Ghosts' exceptional performance in the 1913 Alpine Trial saw it earn the moniker 'The Best Car in the World', cementing the marque's reputation for engineering excellence and impeachable reliability. To celebrate this extraordinary moment in Rolls-Royce and automotive history, the Bespoke department at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England designed and crafted a 21st century homage. Finished in an exterior hue that takes inspiration from the Radley car, the 2013 Alpine Trial Centenary Ghost features exquisitely crafted bespoke touches that elegantly tell the story of the 1913 Trial. The clock displays the stages of the rally and timings while inlays to rear picnic tables and the front fascia express the topography and distances of the Alpine route. A hand-painted coachline referencing the four Rolls-Royce motor cars that took part in the rally and headlining, colour-matched to the hood of Radley's car, completes a beautiful homage.

Two Brits dead after car plunges 1,000ft off Austrian mountain road during organised rally http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/world-news/two-brits-dead-after-car-6130423 The 22-year-old driver and his 25-year-old passenger lost control of their Seat Leon before ploughing through a safety barrier in the Alps They were taking part in an organised rally between the Belgian capital Brussels and Hungary’s capital Budapest that started on July 18. Police estimate that they were travelling at speeds of up to 120mph before the accident at around 7.45am today. Specialist crash investigators are examining the scene of the accident for clues as to what happened. At its highest point the road, named as one of the most stunning driving experiences in the world, is 8,215ft above sea level and runs across the base of the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain. Although the mountain is a scenic route famed for its spectacular views, it also attracts motorists from all over Europe who are keen to try out the challenging curves and sweeping bends in the road.

Hi all, There's something that simply baffled me. I have a ALPINE ICS-X8 (7' Head Unit) that is able to display resolution up to 800x480. I have also installed add-on GPS (RoadNavi with Papago Map). Unfortunately, the add-on GPS map resolution is so lousy (480x234) and the map display is not sharp. Upon query, they replied that they use Low Resolution Driver for GPS input to the Alpine Head-Unit..... Tried googling but couldn't find any answer....... Is there really such thing, i.e. High resolution Head Unit but uses Low resolution driver for GPS input ??!!! In another words, as long as I have this Alpine Head Unit, I will continue to have a low resolution GPS display regardless of the add-on unit ? Thanks.
