  1. I would like to compare the abovementioned models. 1) Pricing 2) FC 3) Handling 4) Size 5) Appearance 6) Maintenance Cost like spare parts. I like both the car design especially Opel Astra 1.6 Twinport. Was considering of Toyota Altis and my friend strongly reccomend on Ford Focus in terms of handling. The pricing is higher than Altis if I'm not wrong. But how much higher? Astra got all the cost rebate, free insurance, etc. So in the end not sure of the selling price. Too confused. Can anyone enlightened me on the pricing as well as commend on the cars. Thks alot.

What Happened? A lowered Opel Astra HB was caught up in an incident at the Woodlands Checkpoint yesterday, after its exhaust system was torn off while attempting to navigate a speed bump. Some netizens commented that the vehicle, which had lowered suspension, was moving slowly towards the checkpoint when the driver failed to clear the speed bump, causing the underside of the car to scrape against the concrete. In a matter of seconds, the car's exhaust was ripped off, sending debris flying. Authorities were quick to respond, with checkpoint staff redirecting traffic and alerting the traffic police. It was alleged that the car's lowered suspension had caused it to be too low to clear the speed bump, resulting in the exhaust system being ripped out. The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has warned that vehicle modifications, including lowering the suspension, must comply with safety standards and guidelines, and that failure to do so could result in accidents and injuries. Online Chat If you want to mod your car, at least make sure you’re able to get past all these bumpy roads lah… Not the best idea to drive a lowered car through multiple speed bumps on a congested road. There goes its resale value in future… Low suspension is good for flat roads but doesn’t work well with humps. Hard and expensive lesson to learn. Takeaway The LTA also advised all motorists to exercise caution when approaching speed bumps and to ensure that their vehicles are in good condition before embarking on a journey. Enter the all-new Astra. source: https://www.motor1.com/news/519625/2022-opel-astra-specs-photos/ One of the oldest cars in Europe's hugely competitive compact segment is switching to the next generation, bringing a completely new design inside and out along with overhauled underpinnings. Once again assembled at home in Rüsselsheim, the sixth iteration of Opel's popular Astra has all the ingredients to go up against the giants in this class: Golf, Focus, Megane, and the Octavia. It also has to do battle with the mechanically related Peugeot 308, with the two sharing the EMP2 platform as both brands are part of Stellantis – the world's fourth-largest car manufacturer. Even though their bones are quite similar, the designers have done a great job at differentiating the two compact hatchbacks. The French version takes a bolder approach whereas its German cousin plays it safe with a cleaner appearance. Let's talk size. The new Astra has been stretched by four millimeters (0.15 inches) over the outgoing generation and is now 4,374 mm (172.1 in) long. Even though the overall length has barely changed, the wheelbase has been stretched significantly by 13 mm (0.5 in) to 2,675 mm (105.3 in) by shortening the front overhang. Width has increased quite a bit, at 1,860 mm (73.2 in) or about 51 mm (2 in) more than before. Opel goes as far as to say the hatchback has "coupe-like" lines, although some will beg to differ. A new Astra GTC would be nice, but given the current demand for three-door hatches, we wouldn't necessarily count on it. The car's increased footprint pays dividends in terms of cargo capacity on the adjustable load floor as it has grown by 52 liters (1.83 cubic feet) to 422 liters (14.9 cu ft) with the rear seats in place. Much like the exterior, the cabin is a vast departure from the Astra K by adopting the less-is-more approach with few conventional buttons. You still have shortcuts for often-used functions, but most of the settings are accessed through the 10-inch touchscreen of the infotainment system. To its left, a fully digital instrument cluster has the same size. As you would expect from a totally new car, Opel's new C-segment hatchback is brimming with tech. It gets the matrix LED technology from the flagship Insignia, with no fewer than 84 light-emitting diodes per headlight cluster. Cruise control with stop & go is available, as are a head-up display and a 360-degree camera. Opel doesn't go too deep with details about the powertrains, but you can imagine these will be quite similar to those of the new Peugeot 308. The German brand does confirm the 2022 Astra will be available with a choice of gasoline and diesel units with output varying from 110 hp (81 kW) to 225 hp (165 kW). For the very first time, a plug-in hybrid setup will be available and will come in two configurations. Depending on the powertrain, six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions will be offered. The order books will open this fall and the first customer deliveries are scheduled to take place in early 2022. Opel has already confirmed there will be a new wagon once again for those in need of a bigger cargo area. Expect the estate variant to be revealed in the coming months. While it would make sense for the company to have both body styles on display in September at the IAA in Munich, Opel has announced it will not attend the show this year. As a final note, it's worth mentioning this will be the final Astra with combustion engines in Europe considering Opel has vowed to go EV-only on the Old Continent by 2028.

  5. Hi Guys, I find Astra GTC is quite funky and energetic but Golf 1.4 TSI is popular among buyers. Under the boot, GTC churns out less 20 horeses than its counterpart Golf 1.4 TSI. There are quite a number of Golfs on the road but find that Astra GTC is hard to spot on. What are your opinions on these 2 cars? Would like to hear pros and cons from serious ownership's view.

  8. With the new season of Top Gear being filmed now, the old Astra used for their previous "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" section, is now up for sale according to Carscoops.com. Up for auction now on eBay, the red five-door Opel Astra is equipped with a 1.6-litre petrol engine pushing out 115bhp and has only 4,680km on the odometer. Interestingly, the stock-looking car "is not suitable for street use" according to the ad. This is because the airbags were disabled in order to install a roll-cage and converting it back would incur quite a bit of cash. The ad also stated that the Opel Technical Team will work with the winning bidder to explain how the vehicle was adapted. Earnings from this auction will support BEN, which helps unemployed automotive industry workers. The bid, at the time of writing, was £8,000 (S$15,380).

  10. About 3 years after the launch of the Astra hatchback, Opel has finally revealed the Astra in its sedan form. This should be the final Astra variant after the hatchback, Sports Tourer station wagon and the GTC coupe. The GM subsidiary expects the Astra sedan to do well in markets such as Germany and Spain and see growth opportunities in Eastern and Central Europe. The new Astra sedan measures 4,658mm long, 1,814mm wide and 1,476mm tall, making it 239mm longer than the hatchback. The car is even longer than the VW Jetta, which is already quite lengthy for a compact sedan in my opinion.   11. For those who intend to buy an Opel Astra 1.6 Turbo, you may want to hold off your purchase for a while. This is because the brand's latest 1.6-litre SIDI turbo petrol engine is now available on the five-door hatchback, four-door sedan and Sports Tourer versions of the Astra. The new engine will replace the existing 1.6-litre Ecotec turbocharged unit. The new range topper makes 168bhp and 280Nm of torque, which is 10bhp less but 50Nm more than its predecessor. In addition, torque availability has dropped from 2,200rpm to just 1,650rpm. The engine is available with either a new six-speed manual gearbox or a low-friction six-speed automatic transmission. The fuel consumption of the new engine is and improved 14 percent over its predecessor and is rated at 5.9L/100km (according to the New European Driving Cycle) for the hatchback and sedan. The five-door Astra 1.6 SIDI Turbo sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds, which is 0.3 seconds faster than the current 1.6 Turbo. However, it is still 0.3 seconds slower than its arch rival, the Golf Sport.

    2010 Opel Astra

    Here's the all new Opel Astra. It projects a more elegant and classy image than the outgoing model and has grown alot is all dimensions, being 170 mm longer, 160 mm wider and 50 mm taller. With such dimensions, it engulfs the Mark VI Golf. Not only that, I feel that the Astra managed to look more sophisticated than the Golf. A bigger car inevitably weighs more. Opel said the new Astra carries an average 40 kg more than the equivalent old car. On the positive side, torsional rigidity of its chassis increased by a massive 43 percent, and NVH level is improved significantly with upgraded insulation. As expected, the new Astra is much more refined than its predecessor. Its wind and road noise level is among the lowest in the C-segment. A new series of turbocharged power-plants makes its debut on the new Astra. The 1.4L turbo churns out 140hp while the larger 1.6L unit delivers an impressive 180 hp. The Astra comes with an optional 6 speed automatic gearbox that is found on the Chevrolet Cruze. However, it's no DSG. The Astra does come with the ingredients of a successful hatchback. It shares the same underpinnings as the recently launched Chevrolet Cruze, which has received commendable feedback from local car magazines with regards to its body control and handling characteristics. I can't wait to see it when it arrives at our local shore.
  16. Opel held a launch event at their showroom last week for their new Astra Turbo, which is a car that has a neat trick up its sleeve. Now, the basic information you need to know is that the Astra Turbo is available with two turbocharged engines, a 1.4 and a 1.6. But that's not its main trump card. What is it? Read on. The clus is of course in the picture. Why would Opel want cyclists? Because, the rear bumper of the Astra Turbo hides a very nifty bicycle carrier, which slides out like a drawer should you need to carry a couple of bikes for that weekend getaway. Some may deride the seemingly pointless feature, but I personally think that it is very innovative of Opel to offer something like this. Cycling is gaining popularity now in this day and age, and I guess Opel are smart in providing an easy way for drivers to carry their bikes in a convenient way. Although, whether cyclists would actually drive a car in the first place is an issue to discuss another day. For now, let's just applaude Opel's creativity in providing something which, I would think, no one has thought of yet.

    New Opel Astra OPC

    According to a recent report, the Opel Astra OPC / Vauxhall Astra VXR will finally become a legitimate competitor to the Ford Focus RS. While details are limited, Autocar is reporting the high performance Astra will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 300 hp. If they are correct, the new engine will boast 63 hp more than its predecessor. Unlike the Insignia OPC / VXR, the Astra will continue to be front-wheel driven. This means GM will likely equip the car with an electronic differential to help alleviate torque steer. Expected to go on sale in late 2011, the hot hatch will likely wear an aggressive body kit with revised bumpers, flared wheel arches, and a roof-mounted spoiler.

  20. Hi Bros @ MCF This is my 1st post at MCF so just thought of sharing a very nice car which i've viewed late last month. Its the new Opel Astra 1.6Turbo with 180bhp. I've taken some pics so decided to share with the bros here! SE quoted me $118,500 pre-launch price And $125,000 launch price (November), it was just too steep for my liking as it does not coroborate with current mkt trends for say VW Golf TSI & Scirocco. I would have bite had they sold it ard $100-$108 grand but well maybe the prices may drop during launch? Do give your feedback as to whether it is a good offer as currently i'ved put it on the back burner somehow as there are a host of new models coming along etc Ford Mondeo/Focus Ecoboost models. It does comes with a host of goodies like built in bicycle rack at the rear license plate, flase or adjustable boot floor, bluetooth HU with LCD display, Satellite Radio. Just to name a few different things that can't be found on other rides. But build quality wise IMHO still not on par with VW. But its better than a Bravo or Octavia or any other Jap makes in the same Category. FYI this is Mr Karsono Kwee's car, i really liked the number plate lol! Its a real sneak peek as this car was still parked at the warehouse, after juz landed from port.
  21. Opel has pulled the curtains off the new 2011 Opel Astra Sports Tourer, ahead of a planned public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October. Along with the car, Opel is introducing a new 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol engine that produces either 118 horsepower or 138 horsepower. Eight different petrol and diesel engines will be available on the Sports Tourer. At the top of the diesel lineup is a 2.0-liter CDTI unit that delivers 158 hp and up to 380Nm of torque when the overboost function is enabled. Transmission options include a six speed manual and a six speed automatic gearbox. Cars with the manual transmission will get an indicator light that inform the driver of the most fuel efficient shift points. Start/Stop will also be used across the range to further aide fuel economy. Behind the C-pillar, the car has a roofline that is subtly tapered. This allows the car to maintain cargo space of 1,550 liters. With the rear seats down, the load length of the cargo area is a full 1,835mm, longer than the entire wheelbase of the Smart ForTwo. The Astra Sports Tourer is meant to share some of the same design features as the Opel Insignia.

  24. Hi members, Really keen on this machine and have test drove it. The automatic transmission cannot make it though. It's really jerky when it shifts, especially if you keep your feet on the accelerator . But the Easytronic is really cool and fun. Features are indeed comprehensive as well. My concerns: 1) Price - SGD 83K (Too high) 2) Maintenance - with digital equipment all over the car, quite worry about the servicing or replacement. Their wiper blades are proprietary as well. 3) Resale value? Will there be any? 4) Reliability Has anyone bought this car yet? Comments please. Thanks in advance.
