  1. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/599173/toyota-yaris-gr-sport-japan-debut/ The Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport is a new variant of the little crossover that's launching in Japan. More than just a styling tweaks, the company gives this vehicle a stiffer body and a revised suspension. The Yaris Cross GR Sport features extra bracing in the center of the underbody and at the rear. Toyota says this provides improved steering stability and less body roll. The revised suspension lowers the ride height by 0.39 inches (10 millimeters). The company also tweaks the tuning for the springs, shocks, and electric power steering. The Yaris Cross GR Sport rides on 18-inch Falken FK510 tires. With the hybrid powertrain, the Yaris Cross GR Sport has an upgraded powertrain controller that provides an improved accelerator pedal response. Toyota also tweaks the small crossover's styling by adding mesh grilles to the front and rear. The brake calipers get a coat of red paint, and the model rides on 10-spoke wheels. Inside, the Yaris Cross GR Sport gets special front seats that are a mix of the material Air Nubuck and synthetic leather. There's a leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel with the GR logo on it. The front portion of the center console has dark gray metallic paint. The shift knob has a leather covering. The pedals get aluminum covers. The GR Sport is available with a pair of 1.5-liter three-cylinder engines. One version makes 118 horsepower (88 kilowatts) and a hybrid variant of this mill has 90 hp (67 kW). While the Yaris Cross is available with all-wheel drive, this model only comes with a front-drive layout.
  2. Source: https://www.motor1.com/reviews/569453/2022-toyota-sienna-woodland-review/ There’s a not-so-small subsection of the auto community (to which I belong) that goes absolutely bonkers for minivans. It was our 1993 Dodge Grand Caravan that made me love these boxes on wheels. For our family of six, the Caravan was a huge upgrade from the Chevrolet Celebrity wagon we traded in – rear-seat climate controls, elbow room, and a built-in booster seat pour moi? I was in love. Today’s customer isn’t so easily swayed, and the minivan’s styling – some dare to call these magnificent creatures uncool – is its greatest liability in the fight against three-row crossovers, as well as a perceived lack of rough-road capability. Toyota is here to change that with the 2022 Sienna Woodland Edition. Based on the popular XLE trim level, the Woodland has standard all-wheel drive, 0.6 inches of added ground clearance, and a few cosmetic touches to turn the efficient, spacious hybrid minivan into a would-be crossover rival. Those willing to embrace the minivan life are going to love it. The Toyota Sienna, redesigned for the 2021 model year, is one of the more exuberantly styled vans on the road today. Although it doesn’t avoid the short-hood, long-windshield pitfall that seems to drive consumers away from vans, the Sienna compensates with squinty headlights bookending the corporate jellybean logo. The large, trapezoidal grille on the bumper is undeniably bold, and Toyota designers get extra credit for hiding the fact that most of it is blocked off. The Woodland’s dark chrome exterior accents, trim-exclusive Cement paint color, and standard roof rails attracted at least one admiring glance from the neighbors. The Sienna looks like it was shaped by the wind, with crisp rocker panel contours that rise dramatically toward the angular D-pillar. Stylists reportedly took inspiration from Japan’s Shinkansen bullet trains for the new minivan, and if you squint, you can sorta see it in the high, sloping hood and swept bodyside contours. Things start to fall apart on the rear end, which compensates for the rest of the Sienna’s smooth styling with an overabundance of angles, edges, and slashes. I do appreciate the black plastic rear bumper and cargo sill, which helps the Sienna look a bit tougher, as well as adds some scratch-resistant loading practicality. Inside, the Sienna Woodland Edition gets standard black SofTex faux leather upholstery, jazzed up a bit with bronze stitching and an attractive geometric pattern embossed into the surface. Otherwise, it’s your basic XLE fare here, with a high center console with a huge storage cubby beneath it, a few decorative splashes of striated aluminum-look trim, and a swoopy dashboard housing analog gauges and a 9.0-inch touchscreen display. Crossover converts will love the console shifter and tall seating position, and the Sienna is a pretty nice place to spend a long drive (as long as you don’t have to interact with the dated infotainment system much). Materials up front and in the second row are nice enough without sacrificing spill- and dirt-friendly ruggedness, while the third row is decidedly more plasticky. That’s par for most non-luxury three-row vehicles, though. Minivans live and die by their passenger-hauling capability, and unfortunately, the Sienna comes up a bit short. Both the front and second-row bucket seats are comfortable and supportive, and the latter pair slides fore and aft to provide a bit more legroom for folks in the way-back. Even so, third-row passengers will lament the tight shoulder room and claustrophobia-inducing windows. The Honda Odyssey and Chrysler Pacifica do much better on that last front, with larger apertures that let some light in. Cargo capacity suffers as well, especially if you need to haul longer items. Seats-up space is respectable at 33.5 cubic feet, but with the third row folded (and not all that flat, mind you), the Sienna only offers 75.2 units, down at least 11.4 over the next-worst minivan rival. Maximum luggage room is worse still. At 101.0 cubic feet with the third row folded and the second row scootched forward – it’s not removable, and it doesn’t fold flat – the Sienna comes up more than 39 cubes short. The Woodland Edition comes with some features to appease folks who are willing to haul their cargo outside the van. A roof rack with crossbars and a tow hitch rated for the Sienna’s 3,500-pound towing capacity are both standard. Even so, the Sienna offers more interior room than any crossover. In fact, its below-class-average cargo area with the third row folded is still bigger than that of the Chevrolet Tahoe. And space is but one aspect of the Sienna’s decent comfort score. A pleasant freeway ride, four cosseting bucket seats, and limited wind and road noise helped the Toyota hybrid feel downright posh on a long trip. I also liked the hybrid system’s silent, smooth EV operation, and the van is capable of some decent speed without firing up the engine. Push the accelerator too far, though, and the engine and CVT are prone to persistent high-RPM drone. Oh dear. I’ve become a bit spoiled. You see, my two most recent Toyota products before the Sienna were the Tundra pickup and the Lexus NX crossover, both of which sport the automaker’s newest infotainment package displayed on a big 14.3-inch touchscreen. By comparison, the Sienna’s old software looks and feels very dated, with laggy touch response and graphics that haven’t been stylish since the Bush administration. And compared to its chief rivals, the Sienna’s tech suite still comes up short. The Kia Carnival SX, for example, boasts the automaker’s excellent software displayed on a 12.3-inch screen, and the Chrysler Pacifica Touring L’s 10.1-inch display gets standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto – neither of which are available on the Sienna. Toyota’s 4.2-inch gauge display is likewise unimpressive, but at least the twin analog gauges are crisp and easy to read. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said of its grainy rear camera – thank goodness for standard front and rear radar sensors. Kiddos in the back seat might be happier with the Sienna than the adults up front. My Woodland tester came with the $1,415 rear-seat entertainment system, which puts an 11.3-inch, 1080p display on the roof over the second row and an HDMI input in the second-row console. But again, the Pacifica one-ups the Sienna with available Amazon Fire TV apps and a pair of rear-seat displays. With 245 horsepower combined between its Atkinson-cycle 2.5-liter inline-four and pair of electric motors – one per axle – the Sienna is actually the least powerful minivan on the market. That shouldn’t dissuade consumers though, as it feels pretty spry in normal traffic. Its front and rear electric motors put out a healthy 199 and 89 pound-feet respectively, so the Toyota hybrid has more than enough juice to keep up with traffic when the light turns green. And although Toyota doesn’t quote combined a torque rating between the pair of electric motors and the gas engine, I would be surprised if the number weren’t close to 300 lb-ft. Unfortunately given its anti-SUV positioning, the Woodland Edition doesn’t seem to add much in the way of rough-road capability. In spite of the lifted suspension, the Sienna still only has 6.9 inches of ground clearance, and a long front overhang means the van will scrape its schnoz on parking lot entrance ramps, much less off-road obstacles. Maybe the aftermarket can step in and help, as there seems to be a fair amount of space in the wheel arches for larger tires than the P235/60R18 rubber found on the Woodland – a size shared with lesser Siennas. Sporty driving isn’t really in the Sienna’s wheelhouse, and the added ride height of the Woodland Edition doesn’t inspire confidence either. But the hybrid is stable and surefooted in just about any traffic situation, and the floor-mounted battery lowers the center of gravity to help the van keep an even keel on cloverleaf interchanges and winding roads. Regenerative braking is still a bugaboo that Toyota’s engineers haven’t quite mastered, as evidenced by the Sienna’s touchy, non-linear left pedal, but slam the pedal down and the van comes to a quick, stable halt. The Toyota Sienna earns top marks in the government’s crash and collision-avoidance testing, and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety agrees. Every Sienna comes standard with full-speed adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, lane departure prevention, lane tracing, and blind spot monitoring, to which the Woodland Edition adds parking sensors with automatic braking. The so-called Toyota Safety Sense 2.0 suite of technologies worked admirably during my week with the minivan. The Sienna kept its lane position well and responded to the flow of traffic smoothly, and its audible and tactile alerts were just intrusive enough to keep the driver engaged without being annoying. The 2022 Toyota Sienna’s single greatest trump card over its minivan competition – really, any three-row vehicle – is fuel economy. Swilling a steady diet of electrons and regular unleaded, the Sienna Woodland Edition is rated at the same 35 miles per gallon city, 36 highway, and 36 combined as any other all-wheel-drive Toyota van. Get front-wheel drive and the numbers rise to 36 across the board. The next-best competitor is the plug-in, front-drive-only Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid, which achieves 30 mpg combined, although if you can charge it overnight, the Pacifica has a range of 32 electric miles. If you need all-wheel drive, you’re stuck with the gas-only Chrysler Pacifica, which hits 20 mpg combined. The Sienna’s front-drive competition is slightly better, at 22 mpg combined for both the Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival. I think Toyota could put a nail in its competitors’ efficiency coffins by giving us a Sienna Prime. Borrowing the plug-in RAV4’s powertrain would give the minivan some EV-only range and more than 300 horsepower. Alas, such a vehicle doesn’t exist – yet. Starting at $34,710 plus $1,215 destination, the Toyota Sienna family is a reasonably priced entry in the minivan class, undercutting the Chrysler Pacifica by a couple grand and costing a few hundred bucks more than the Honda Odyssey and Kia Carnival. Six months of driving would recoup that added cost in fuel savings alone. The Sienna Woodland Edition is a bit dearer, though. Starting at $46,545 with destination, my tester’s final price was $48,325 thanks to the rear seat entertainment system, an extra set of wireless headphones, and illuminated door sills. Were it my money, I’d skip the extra kit and stick to the base Woodland Edition – tablets and phones are cheaper and easier to use than the Sienna’s entertainment system, and the door sills are a needless bauble. Those who have no pretensions of off-road enthusiasm might be better served by the $44,235 Sienna XSE AWD, whose sharp wheels, sporty body styling, and bigger variety of colors might be appealing. But while it’s no crossover – and for me, that’s a good thing – the Woodland Edition seems to be a sweet spot in the Sienna lineup thanks to its standard roof rails and trailer hitch and added ride height. It’s a darn good van, which in my mind makes it a far better family car than any SUV out there.
  3. The Nissan Kicks, a compact crossover is designed for city living consumers, is now ready to tackle Singapore's urban streets. Currently undergoing homologation, the car is scheduled to be launched here in Singapore by the middle of 2020. At the front, the Kicks sports Nissan's signature V-Motion grille, and closer to back a wide C-pillar finished in black blends itself into the tailgate glass, adding to the 'floating roof' effect for a distinctively crossover look and eye-catching appeal. Bold wheel arch fenders and a rising character line on the bodysides that accentuate the car's crossover stance. Singapore bound models of the Kicks will sport's Nissan's e-POWER drivetrain, which utilises a 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine as a generator to power a battery and a 127bhp electric motor the drives the front wheels. Peak torque from the electric motor is 260Nm. Nissan claims the Kicks e-POWER will be able to achieve a fuel economy of 21.7km/L thanks to this unique drivetrain configuration. Singapore-bound cars will also come with a suite of advanced driver assistance systems that include Intelligent Emergency Braking, Intelligent Driver Alertness, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Trace Control, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. 4. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a33025877/nissan-ariya-ev-debut/ The production version of the new Nissan Ariya EV will debut July 15. Nissan released a teaser photo of the electric crossover ahead of its official reveal. Expect the Ariya to go on sale in the U.S. late next year, possibly as a 2022 model. Nissan will reveal the production version of its all-new electric crossover, the Ariya, on July 15. The virtual event comes less than a year after the sleek concept made its debut at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show boasting a sensor-laden "shield" instead of a grille and a two-motor setup providing all-wheel drive. We expect at least the latter to make it into production, particularly given that the Ariya (pronounced like the thing a diva sings) will ride on Nissan's new e-4ORCE platform (wherein "4" stands for "all-wheel drive"). This is a big step for the Japanese brand, whose only other mass-market electric vehicle, the Leaf hatchback, makes do with one motor and front-wheel drive. The e-4ORCE platform can support a variety of body styles and should offer the automaker—as well as Renault and Mitsubishi—a lot of flexibility for its future EV offerings. Many things about the Ariya remain unknown at this point, but we can tell you that, size-wise, this compact crossover sits below the Rogue in the lineup, being both shorter and lower than that SUV, if a little wider. We don't expect its price to follow that hierarchy, though. The Ariya should take on the likes of the Tesla Model Y, the Chevy Bolt EV, the Hyundai Kona Electric, and the upcoming Ford Mustang Mach-E, all of which start above $35,000. If there's one notable feature of the concept that we hope to see come stateside it's the company's latest driver-assistance system, ProPilot 2.0. It allows drivers the opportunity to go hands-free on certain roads, similar to Cadillac's Super Cruise system. We'll find out more on July 15.
  5. Aston Martin DBX shown in near-production form before 2019 launchhttps://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/industry/aston-martin-readies-dbx-suv-2019-launch Aston Martin has confirmed that its first-ever SUV model will be called DBX and launch before the end of next year. The brand has also released official 'spy' images showing the car's near-production bodywork. The DBX was first previewed as a concept car in 2015 but had been tipped to take another name for production, with Varekai one of the rumoured possibilities. Unlike the concept, the production DBX will feature a more conventional five-door layout rather than the sleeker three-door design that was originally expected. The DBX is arguably the most important model in Aston Martin’s history and the next phase of the company’s turnaround plan under boss Andy Palmer. While every Aston produced under Palmer to date as part of his ‘Second Century’ plan has been a replacement for an existing model (DB11, Vantage and DBS Superleggera), the DBX breaks new ground by having no direct predecessor. As well as being the first Aston SUV, it is also the first Aston to be produced in a new purpose-built factory in St Athan, Wales. During its life cycle, it will introduce hybrid technology to Aston, and it will also play a key role in trying to attract female buyers to the Aston Martin brand. The DBX is built on an Aston Martin architecture that will be closely related to that set to be used by the Lagonda saloon and SUV that Aston also has in the pipeline and which will be built alongside the DBX in Wales from 2021. Whereas the Lagonda models will be electrically driven, however, the DBX will start life with petrol power, before getting Mercedes-sourced hybrid technology early in the next decade. Aston Martin’s own V12 and Mercedes-AMG’s V8 engines will both find their way into the DBX, with Mercedes also donating the car’s electrical architecture. The DBX will compete against the likes of the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, Rolls-Royce Cullinan and upcoming Ferrari SUV. Given the broad appeal and rise in popularity of SUVs, the DBX is expected to quickly become Aston’s bestselling model. New official shots show DBX's design for first time Aston has released images of the DBX undergoing testing on the gravel stages of the Wales Rally GB, for the first time giving hints of the final production car’s design. There’s little left of the DBX concept in the camouflaged test mule, although the sleek silhouette does remain, albeit with an extra pair of doors. Sharp body creases and a pronounced shoulder line help reduce the overall visual bulk on what is the most high-sided Aston yet produced, while a new integrated grille design performs a similar role at the front of the car. Aston Martin is already talking up the DBX’s all-terrain capabilities, which are revealed in these official testing images with the company’s chief engineer Matt Becker at the wheel. The DBX is the first Aston Martin to go through a new dedicated test programme, to ensure it can produce the kind of dynamic on-road performance on which Aston has always made its name, allied to some credibility off-road. Testing is also due to take place in the Arctic, the deserts of the Middle East, on German autobahns and at the Nürburgring, as well as both on and off-road in the UK. Itwill also be the first all-new Aston Martin model launched after the company’s stock market flotation, a formal intention for which was finally confirmed in late August after the firm returned to profitability last year. In a long-rumoured move, Aston Martin is set to offer more than £1 billion of shares, which equates to some 25% of the company, on the London Stock Exchange in the autumn. The initial public offering (IPO) values the British manufacturer at around £5bn and would place it in the FTSE 100. Following its own IPO in 2015, Ferrari’s value doubled to around £15bn a year later. Aston Martin has changed significantly as a company under the leadership of Andy Palmer, who joined as CEO in 2014. He has brought financial stability to the company and returned it to profit. Last year, it was in the black for the first time since 2010. Aston’s first-half results in 2018 showed that it recorded a pre-tax profit of £20.7 million. Palmer has underpinned that growth with his so-called ‘second century’ plan, which is formed of seven models being launched over seven years at the rate of one per year, each then on sale for a seven-year model cycle with various derivatives and special-edition versions launched within that. Hybrid powertrains to arrive later in DBX's lifecycle Daimler will provide Aston’s hybrid technology and is also one of two routes for sourcing full-electric drivetrains, according to Palmer, with other external partners also being explored. Aston has sourced an 800V system for its first electric car, the limited-run RapidE due in 2019, and Palmer said 800V and access to the latest chemistry is key to any future EV powertrain from the firm. Although hybrid versions of the DBX are a long way off, the car will be launched with a Mercedes-sourced 4.0-litre V8 and Aston’s own 5.2-litre V12 as core engine options. Palmer said that although he lists the DBX’s rivals as the Bentayga, Urus, Cullinan and upcomingFerrari, each model performs a very different role in the super-luxury SUV segment. “Those minded towards a beauty of execution will move to Aston,” he said. First-time Aston customers are expected to be found in China and North America in particular for the DBX, but Palmer said plenty of existing Aston owners will be interested, too. “It’s fascinating to me that 72% of Aston customers also own an SUV, and normally these are Cayennes or Range Rovers,” he said. “If you’re converted to Aston, it’ll be easier to convert buyers to an Aston SUV.” The final model name of the DBX has yet to be decided upon. However, earlier this year Aston trademarked the name Varekai. The seventh model in its product plan, a mid-engined supercar to rival the Ferrari 488, will be called the Vanquish. The DBX is expected to sell at around 5000 units per year, which would comfortably make it Aston’s most popular model. Last year, the firm sold 5117 sports cars, with the long-term goal of up to 14,000 split between 7000 each from Gaydon and St Athan, and the rest from up to two special, limited-run models each year.
  6. This time, we are reviewing something rather interesting! Its from a premium marque, has rugged, boxy exterior styling, seats seven, and yet is built atop a compact car platform! It is the Mercedes GLB! Of course, here's what matters: Is there enough space for seven? The second row looks spacious enough... But what about the third row? Oh no... and it looks like getting out from the rear can be a bit of a faff as well... Thankfully, the drive seems to be mighty good! If you're looking for a compact crossover with plenty of style? Does the GLB suit you? Watch the full video to find out!
  7. The Cupra Ateca is a practical SUV with the 300hp engine and four-wheel-system from the fiendishly quick SEAT Leon Cupra 300. As a result of this SEAT connection, you’re probably wondering ‘what’s happened to the SEAT badge?’ Well, it’s gone – Cupra is SEAT’s new performance sub-brand and the Cupra Ateca the first in a line of cars that will wear that badge. To help your mind separate Ateca from Cupra Ateca, the latter has been given the new badge plus the full treatment from the accessories catalogue. As a result, you get huge 19-inch alloy wheels, a body kit, a quad exhaust system and LED headlights. The result is a car with purposeful styling, although the unfamiliar badge makes it look like the creation of a tuning house rather than a mainstream car. Some will like that, others won’t. The changes inside are more subtle, but you get body-hugging sports seats (complete with questionable looking carbon fibre vinyl bolsters) some Cupra badges and more fake-looking carbon fibre trim on the dashboard. Sadly, it’s not enough to redress the gloomy, almost exclusively jet-black cabin plastics that make the interior feel a little too dowdy for a genuinely sporty car like this. https://www.cupraofficial.com/ Even the presenter in the video finds the CUPRA branding confusing So as some may know i am on the look out for an SUV type of car, you can also call it window shopping maybe will buy maybe not. Went to the Singapore Motorshow. Viewed the Venue and Seltos but left pretty much disappointed/underwhelmed/unimpressed (for a lack of better word) with the Venue. Too basic too funky. Maybe my taste will change in future but dunno. So now i'm back to square one. and then I found the CUPRA Ateca. but i understand it's not even launched yet. Did some searches on the forum and found info of the CUPRA inside the SEAT thread but it was somewhere in the middle and images all cant view. the CUPRA Ateca looks gd! i'm unfamiliar with the SEAT brand. been to the showroom once. but confused with the branding. is this a SEAT or not? saw some websites stating its a SEAT Ateca Cupra. confusing enough. opening this thread here for bros who are potentially looking for an SUV in the near future!
  8. Here is a sneak peek at Hyundai's latest and smallest crossover model, the Venue. The car is set to debut at the New York Auto Show soon. Seen on Carscoops, the new Hyundai was thought to a special model marketed for Asean markets but is now believed to be available for Europe and U.S. markets too. Looking similar to the Santa Fe, the car spots a 'Turbo' logo at the back suggesting that it might be using the 1.0 turbo three from the Kona. It is expected to be paired with a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The new Venue is supposed to be position under the Kona as brand’s smallest crossover and will likely be available in front-wheel drive guise only.
  9. 2020 Kia Niro Hybrid launched in Korea this March. With battery and electric could this SUV? crossover? hatchback? be the most practical SUV we can find today? Let’s check what has changed inside & out and test drive it. 2020 Kia Niro Hybrid 4,355x1,805x1,545x2,700mm 171.5x71.1x60.8x106.3 in. 1.6gdi Hybrid Total: 141hp 1.6 Gdi - 105hp @ 5,700 | 32kw electric motor - 43.5hp 6 speed DCT Competition: Hyundai Ioniq, Toyota Prius https://youtu.be/EqR5UNprPAo
  10. Cupra, SEATs newly formed performance brand, will be coming out with a new crossover as it first car. This might be how it looks like. Leaked by Spain’s Autofacil, the photo of a performance crossover surfaced onto the web and is believed have come from a Volkswagen Group document. Apparently unnamed, the car could very well be the Cupra’s first standalone model that will add to the Cupra Ateca, Cupra Ibiza and Cupra Arona in the brand's lineup. In order to match up to the crossover's muscular good looks, a high-performance engine is expected to power the car, with the possibility of a hybrid system too. The car is expected to reach the showrooms in 2020.
  11. With lesser demand for small three door hatches in Europe, Alfa has decided to pull the plug on its MiTo come the start of 2019. Based on the same platform as the Opel Corsa D and Fiat Grande Punto, the hatch has been on sale since 2008. According to Autocar, Alfa Romeo's Europe Chief, Roberta Zerbi, said that “people are choosing more and more five-door cars”, and the “MiTo is a three-door”, making it not relevant in today's market. Unfortunately, the car will not be replaced by a newer version. Instead, a new small crossover will be launched to hopefully capture a wider market. The unnamed crossover is expected to arrive in 2020.
  12. Fellow ICE enthusiasts, I have a question hopefully some can help or suggest. Recently I installed underseat sub Pioneer ts-wx130da which comes with remote and on the fly adjustment of LPF (between 50 to 125 Hz). Slope wise it is unknown even from the manual. My question is because HU also allow for sub crossover adjustment, how can I set it the right way without interference with each other. HU: JVC KW V230BT
  13. This image previews the look of the new Mitsubishi Lancer, which is set to return as a crossover and could get hybrid power. Mitsubishi is working on a radical return for the Lancer name, as a funky C-segment crossover that will rival everything from the Ford Focus to Toyota’s C-HR. The Japanese brand is enjoying a rapid growth in sales as part of the same Alliance that includes Renault and Nissan. Now the firm’s boss, Briton Trevor Mann, and chief designer Tsunehiro Kunimoto have started work in earnest on replacements for all of Mitsubishi’s current SUVs – and a new generation of small car and Lancer. Mann revealed that the direction of the Lancer is close to being finalised – and he also gave a strong hint of what size of vehicle will carry the badge. “We have a long-range product plan that’s pretty solid until 2025, and a dotted line beyond that,” he explained. “Within that what we’ve said is, ‘Which vehicles do we want? What are we going to work on?’ We’re going to replace ASX, Outlander and Triton. Then we have these two boxes: Pajero and Lancer. “Lancer’s probably the easiest one; we believe we’ve got a solution that could fit the segment. Because if you look globally, the C-segment hatchback [Golf and Focus] market is not shrinking. It’s down a bit in the US and Europe. But its numbers are still expanding in China. So there is appeal. And I think because the segment is so large globally, we’ve got to take a look at it.” Kunimoto says the design direction previewed by the e-Evolution (above) that was displayed at last year’s Tokyo show is ideal for a smaller vehicle. Our main preview image shows how it could evolve into a new Lancer hatch. “Just because it’s C-segment doesn’t mean it has to be a very conventional hatchback,” the designer explained. “Maybe we can create a new type of hatchback vehicle. We’re thinking quite radically. Originality is as much a part of the Mitsubishi design philosophy now as consistency,” Kunimoto added. The firm is likely to base the Lancer on the latest evolution of the Alliance’s CMF C/D platform. That would support a crossover shape like the e-Evolution’s, while also offering the potential for four-wheel drive and the adoption of Mitsubishi’s hybrid systems, tech that the Alliance brands are working hard to integrate into their platforms.
  14. 15. Based on the kei-car sized 660cc Hustler crossover, Suzuki has revealed its bigger non-kei-class-regulated brother, the XBEE. Pronounced as "cross-bee", the car appeared first as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show a few months ago and is now going to go into production with sales starting in Japan first. Said to combine the “spacious cabin of a wagon and the fun of an SUV,” the Xbee is being launched exclusively with a hybrid powertrain, based around a direct-injected 97bhp 1.0-litre three cylinder turbocharged engine that is paired to a six-speed automatic transmission and is available with either two- or four-wheel drive. Using a new rigid new-generation platform dubbed Heartect, the car is also equipped with a mild hybrid system that outputs 3bhp and 50Nm. Elsewhere, the Suzuki Safety Support system which includes a new reverse brake traffic alert system, is installed for the first time on a Suzuki compact car. The compact car maker targets to sell around 2,000 of them every month in its home market and prices range from S$21k onwards.
  16. Photos of the new BMW baby crossover have surfaced online. Dubbed X2, the small SUV has been spotted with little camouflage on the streets. It is clear from Carscoop's photo that the X2 is a sportier version of the current X1 and is pretty much similar in size. BMW fans might notice something different - a new and interesting trend whereby the BMW logo appears on the C-pillar. There aren't any photos of the interior for now but would-be buyers will not have to wait long as the car is said to be due by the end of the year. Powertrain options are expected use the existing 1.5 and 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines found in the X1.
  17. Brands such as Porsche, Lamborghini, and Ferrari used to say that they weren't interested in making a SUV but now, these brands either have on sale or is likely to have one in the pipeline. Even Lotus is planning to have one of its own. Despite SUVs and crossovers the making the most money for most companies, McLaren does not plan to follow suit. According to Carscoops, McLaren's Chief Designer, Dan Parry-Williams was quoted saying that crossovers don't fit the company's philosophy of "everything for a reason" unless "the reason is to clutter up the streets." He also said that "he isn't the first person to point out an SUV is neither particularly sporty or utilitarian." Despite not having a SUV in its line-up, the company posted record sales last year with the bulk of its sales from the Sport Series, a.k.a the 570S and 570GT.
  18. Audi's yet-to-be launched Q8 SUV has been caught on the public roads pretty much undisguised. Based on the MLB Evo platform that underpins the Q7, the new large SUV features a more rakish exterior styling which can be clearly seen in this photo as compared to its sister car. No photos of the interior were shown but it is said to have an advanced center console that comes with two digital displays. Spotted by a member of the Autopareri forum, the car is likely to go on sale next year and will have powertrain options similar to the Q7.
  19. http://www.worldcarfans.com/115070596193/honda-br-v-seven-seat-crossover-rendered-based-on-official Debuts next month The upcoming Honda BR-V has been digitally imagined ahead of next month's official introduction. Honda is cooking up a Bold Runabout Vehicle (BR-V) for Asian markets and chances are it will be a stretched, seven-seat version of the XR-V sold only in China. Seen here is a speculative render based on an official teaser sketch released at the beginning of this week when Honda described the model as a "new generation crossover utility vehicle." The three-row BR-V was developed by Honda R&D Asia Pacific in Thailand and styled with a "tough and solid" body and will be shown as a prototype at the Indonesian Auto Show next month. The production version is due next year and will be offered with a 1.5-liter gasoline engine teamed up with a choice of two gearboxes. Other details about the model are limited at this point, but Honda promises it will pack lots of safety kit as standard, along with an increased ground clearance and "great fuel efficiency" while delivering "sporty performance." We will know more on August 20 when the BR-V prototype will debut at the Gaikindo Indonesian International Auto Show.
  20. Reported by Carscoops, Mazda seems like they almost done with readying the production version of last year's Koeru Concept, which could be named CX-4 or 6 in production guise. Looking much like the concept car, it is quite obvious that Mazda is cashing in on the four-door coupe look crossover that is similar to BMW's X6. Likely to be bigger than the CX-5, Mazda officials have said that the car will be a completely new entry in the range and will be more driver-focused than its other SUVs in its line up. No details on what engines it will run but considering its size, our guess is it will use the 2.5-litre engine found in its large sedan, the Mazda6 or the new 250bhp 2.5-litre turbo found in its recently released CX-9 large SUV.
  21. Acura, the luxury division under the Japanese automaker Honda, has released an image of a new concept vehicle prior to the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. From the image released, the concept vehicle is seemingly a crossover. Acura had mentioned that the concept will debut for the first time in the world at the automotive exhibition that will take place later this month in Shanghai, China. Unfortunately, apart from that and the image, the automaker has yet to reveal any other details, such as engine specifications and interior features. The concept is likely to create a new market segment, considering Acura has recently launched the 2013 all new RDX and the 2014 MDX. Judging from the tyre sizes in proportion to the car's body in the image, it seems that this new concept vehicle from Acura will be a compact crossover. If so, it'll potentially compete against the BMW X1, the Audi Q3, the Mercedes-Benz GLA-Class, and the Lincoln MKC, the latter two of which are going into production soon. It seems that Acura won't be the only one previewing a new concept vehicle as Honda will also do the same thing. The model that Honda will likely preview is a redesign of the Honda Odyssey. Yes, although the North American version (redesigned) of the model had just recently been revealed in the 2013 New York Auto Show, Honda has actually been selling the global version since 2008. Therefore, it seems wise for the model to see a redesign of its global version soon.
  22. [extract] About a month ago, Suzuki showed the world a couple of images of its upcoming S-Cross crossover concept. One of the images was a sketch of the concept and the other, a computer rendered-image. Now, Suzuki has teased us with another image of the vehicle and it is of the rear end of the vehicle. Suzuki did not give us much clues on the concept
  23. [extract] Ford has revealed the Fiesta-based CUV Concept called the EcoSport at the New Delhi Auto Expo. Its exterior features styling cues from the Evos concept, such as the large trapezoidal grille at the front. Apart from the aggressive front end, the EcoSPort
  24. [extract] -Subaru Impreza XV Turbo diesel. Subaru have been pretty quiet since they launched the new Forester, Impreza and Legacy recently. Maybe this is a good thing since there was a slight uproar when the Impreza was launched awhile back. From a slightly demented looking sedan it had become a slightly dull looking hatchback. Of course people have gotten used to it and now Subaru thinks that the world needs a crossover version of the Impreza so they launched it at Geneva recently. Subaru have decided to call it the Impreza XV instead of using the 'Outback' name as their Legacy models. Why Subaru have done so is a small mystery to me. Anyway,
