The all-new 2017 Impreza debuts the Subaru Global Platform architecture that's designed to deliver significantly higher levels of driving pleasure, agility, crash protection and ride comfort and will underpin a variety of upcoming Subaru vehicles, including hybrids. As before, every Impreza is equipped as standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, a boon to driving agility and traction and a key advantage over front-wheel drive competitors. The roomier 2017 Impreza models also debut the brand's new design language and new driver-assist technology. Also new, multimedia features including standard Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ and standard Near Field Communication connectivity debut on Impreza. The new Impreza will be available in base, Premium, Sport and Limited trim lines when it arrives in Subaru dealerships in late 2016. Subaru's new design language puts the brand's signature hexagonal grille and hawk-eye headlights onto a more sculptural body, its athletic stance accentuated by prominent wheel arches and flowing lines. The dramatic new look carries into the cabin, with an outward-flow design that follows the front of the car. The 2017 Impreza rides on a 105.1-in. wheelbase, up 1.0-in. over the last generation Impreza. Both the Sedan and 5-Door are 1.6-in. longer than the outgoing models, and both are 1.5 in. wider. The larger dimensions create a roomier cabin, while a 0.4-in. lower height helps improve aerodynamics with a lower coefficient of drag. Although sleeker in appearance than the previous models, the 2017 Impreza Sedan and 5-Door preserve excellent all-around visibility. The new Subaru Global Platform, together with the Boxer engine, Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and EyeSight® that represent Subaru's core technologies, constitutes the basic foundation of the next generation of Subaru vehicles. Impreza's new platform incorporates new frameworks with optimized cross sections and highly stiffened joints between structures to significantly enhance straight-line stability, agility and ride comfort while suppressing noise, vibration and harshness to a degree not seen in the compact class. Specifically, the new platform increases rigidity of the unitized body structure by over 70 percent. A lower center of gravity and revised suspension systems contribute to the biggest-ever leap in Subaru's performance evolution. The double-wishbone independent rear suspension mounts its rear stabilizer bar directly to the body, which helps reduce body roll by 50 percent compared to the outgoing model. Greater hazard-avoidance capability is another benefit of the Subaru Global Platform's inherent handling agility. In addition, the resolute straight-line stability that makes the 2017 Impreza more relaxing to drive is also an important constituent of the autonomous driving capability this platform can support in future Subaru vehicles. Taking full advantage of the new stiffer platform and more powerful engine, the Impreza 2.0i Sport, now available in the Sedan as well as 5-Door, delivers a more fun-to-drive performance feel thanks to exclusive suspension tuning, 18-inch machine-finish alloy wheels and Active Torque Vectoring. Subaru aimed for a new ride/handling balance benchmark in the compact segment. The Sport also includes a new 4-way Tire Pressure Monitoring System, which is available on other models. Exclusive exterior styling and features setting the Impreza Sport apart include standard LED daytime running lights (DRL), black-finish front grille, body-color rocker panels and turn signal side mirrors. The Impreza Sport 5-Door features gloss black rear gate trim, while the Sport Sedan has a rear trunk spoiler. Inside the Sport, unique black cloth upholstery is trimmed with red stitching, a motif that repeats for the steering wheel, gear shift, instrument panel and door trim. The instrument panel incorporates exclusive Sport gauges and a Multi-Function Display. The Sport comes well equipped, with upgrades over the Impreza Premium that include the Subaru STARLINK™ 8.0-inch touchscreen multimedia system, and a new harman/kardon® premium audio system is available. Keyless Access & Push-Button Start, aluminum pedals, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift handle and a CVT shift boot round out the Sport's enhanced standard equipment. A revised version of the FB 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Boxer engine gains direct fuel injection and other enhancements to boost both performance (now 152 horsepower vs. 148 before) and drivability. In highline trims, the Lineartronic® CVT (continuously variable transmission) features a 7-speed manual mode function with steering wheel paddle shifters that allow the driver to control the transmission via seven pre-set ratios. Subaru designed the 2017 Impreza to provide even higher levels of safety than the outgoing model, which was named an IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK and a TOP SAFETY PICK+ when equipped with available EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology. The new platform underpinning the 2017 Impreza improves crash energy absorption by 40 percent over present models. The EyeSight® system includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Pre-Collision Braking and Lane Departure and Sway Warning, plus a Lane Keep Assist function. Blind Spot Detection and Rear Cross Traffic Alert are also available. Also new are available Steering Responsive Headlights, which can illuminate curves as the vehicle steers into them, and High Beam Assist, which automatically activates and deactivates the high beam headlamps based on driving conditions. All 2017 Impreza models include as standard equipment front seat side impact airbags, side curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag. The 2017 Impreza adds new driver-assist technologies, including Reverse Automatic Braking and the display of steering lines for the standard rear vision camera. Reverse Automatic Braking can apply the vehicle's brakes if an obstacle is detected while reversing. A new 4-way Tire Pressure Monitoring System can detect pressure drops at individual wheels. Subaru STARLINK™ Multimedia systems offer the latest in digital music playing, Bluetooth® wireless capability, iPod® control, smartphone integration and more. The display screen also provides the display for the standard rear vision camera, and the top-level system includes navigation. The available Subaru STARLINK™ Safety and Security Connected Services give the 2017 Impreza one of the industry's most affordable telematics options. Depending on the package selected, features can include SOS Emergency Assistance, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Maintenance Notifications, Monthly Vehicle Health Report and Diagnostic Alerts, Stolen Vehicle Recovery Service, Vehicle Security Alarm Notification, Remote Lock/Unlock, Remote Horn and Lights and Remote Vehicle Locator.

Fans of WRX, hope this summary bring back some fond memories of those days you are driving one. The Subaru Impreza isn't the most exciting model when it stands on its own. However, the addition of three letters – WRX – or six – WRX STI – changes the game, quickly becoming a formidable performance machine that takes full advantage of Subaru's all-wheel-drive expertise. But the car we have today is a far departure from the Impreza that Subaru introduced nearly 20 years ago. 1st Generation (1992-2000) the first-generation Impreza WRX and WRX STI are some of the most desirable models today. The stripped-down RA version took things to the extreme with no A/C, anti-lock brakes, or horn. In 1994, Subaru introduced the WRX STI, which took the WRX and further upgraded it. 2nd Generation (2000-2007) The second-generation Impreza introduced the controversial "Bug Eye" design while increasing the model's dimensions. The "New Age" Impreza design saw the coupe body style disappear, but it was also the generation that saw the WRX arrive in the US for the first time in 2002. The polarizing styling would go through two revisions before the third-generation model's debut. 2nd Generation (2004 Facelift) The first facelift attempted to rework the front-end design, eliminating the round "Bug Eye" design only to replace it with what'd be dubbed the "Blob Eye" design, which was an improvement. The WRX model also got a tweaked suspension for improved handling while other small changes were made inside. The 2004 design previewed the next-gen redesign that'd arrive just two years later. 2nd Generation (2006 Facelift) The second facelift, pulling from the automaker's aviation heritage, introduced the automaker's new corporate face. It was a substantial refresh with new headlights, a new grille, and a new bumper. Subaru fans nicknamed it the "Hawkeye" design. The updated model also saw Subaru replace the WRX's 2.0-liter engine for a larger 2.5-liter one while tweaking the chassis and brakes. 3rd Generation (2007-2014) The third-generation Impreza further refined the car's design, growing in size again over the outgoing model – it was wider and longer than before. The third-gen also saw Subaru replace the wagon with a five-door hatchback variant. The new WRX was mostly unchanged, carrying over the previous-gen model's engine with a few other changes inside and out. 4th Generation (2014-Present) The fourth-gen WRX marked a shift for the automaker, removing the WRX and WRX STI models from under the Impreza brand in the US. However, it still shares an overall shape with its former stablemate, though it wears a unique front end and rear quarters. Subaru also introduced the turbocharged 2.0-liter FA20F engine with the WRX. The fifth-gen model is expected to arrive in 2021 or 2022.

The Subaru Impreza has been awarded 2016-2017 Car of the Year Japan. The Impreza, which is in its fifth generation, beats Toyota's Prius and Audi's A4 in this year. This is the second time the brand has been awarded the honour, with the Legacy winning the title back in 2003. Last year's winner was the widely-acclaimed Mazda MX-5 roadster. Since the launch of the car in Japan in mid-October this year, the new Impreza has outsold its monthly sales target of 2,500 units by more than four times. The company also reported that more than half of its orders were customers that were switching from other brands, indicating that the Impreza is now attracting a wider range of customers in country. The new Impreza is powered by a reworked version of the FB20 2.0-litre direct injection boxer engine and outputs 152bhp. A 113bhp 1.6-litre engine is also available in Japan. Both engines are paired with the brand's Lineartronic CVT.

Those who have seen Ken Block’s Gymkhana series will know that it is a very well put together video. However, to achieve such production quality, the amount of money and effort put into one video is not something an everyday person or someone with a tight budget can do easily. That said, we think Tyler Witte, the driver in this short clip, might have come pretty close to making us entertained with his own homemade Gymkhana video. While he is not exactly your everyday car enthusiast (his Instagram account says he was on the stunt team for the Fate of the Furious), you can see that he did not have much in terms of budget as compared to Ken Block's video. Using his own GC8-generation Subaru Impreza 2.5 RS that was bought over from friend after a crash, he spent eight months rebuilding the car to how it is now, says Speedhunters. Kudos to him for the nicely done video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xv9pkBg6WEI

Late night shopping, another car with an Impreza scoop and the Mercedes Benz W124
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Last saturday night I was out and about in the fair City of Singapore. I ended up in the area around Mustafa at about 11.00 at night. Little India is one of the places to go if you want to endure traffic jams at night. Usually, people will find it hard to even wake up in the morning and dread facing the morning rush hour traffic but when things are cheap at a certain place, people are willing to suffer things they do not want to suffer. But tell this to people who love shopping and they will say that shopping is different. It is always worth suffering if you want to do some shopping when all the other stores are closed and it is different as it isn't work therefore it's alright to suffer a little. Anyway, some you you readers out there would realize that I have a certain fascination about cars other than a Subaru utilizing a Subaru Impreza bonnet scoop. I managed to find one more right in front of Mustafa's. This time the scoop resides on a Toyota. Yes. I suppose since Toyota now owns some shares it must be okay for this Toyota to use the scoop. Wait, I have mentioned it before. And now before some of you out there say- 1 comment

Greetings to all Impreza Drivers and Lovers of AWD. I will first start by sharing my tips to increase FC for my new car. Currently my Impreza 1.6i MT is still under RUN in less than 1600 km The Run in Engine Oil is very thick , thickest compare to Mineral oil and Full Syn oil I have acheived 12-13.5km /litre of petrol with lot of careful driving. TIPS 1) I have installed EZ-stab EXTreme. I have just Spend $620 on this Extreme. Very worth it It aids in Power and Fuel Efficiency 2) I always change gear @ 1500 - 1700 rpm. I entered 5th Gear @ 60km/hr speed. 3) I always set my gear to NEUTRAL during down slope, enter 5th Gear and slowly release clutch when I am about to reach flat road. I do that everyday on CTE. 4) When I saw red light at a distance, I will set Neutral and let it cruise. I dare to do this because it is AWD. Very Stable. Not afraid it will skid or anything. AWD is the best. 5) Check and pump to the correct tyre pressure every alternate days. I am hoping to bring this Impreza to 15km/litre. I am in constant process to search for good products and tips to improve on FC. anyway the petrol price have increased. Since I have bought subaru cars, i do not think i will switch brand. I am aiming for a SUBARU Legacy for my next car. I hope all the GURU out there in MCF will contribute on the tips of BEtter FC. I will humbly accept advices. Cheers GIMMY

I have blogged about the Subaru Impreza scoop before and I bring you another car wearing the aforesaid scoop proudly. This car wears it so proudly without any regard to whether it actually works or not. And it doesn't work at all in this Perodua Kenari (nee Daihatsu Move). The ironic thing about this car is that it was parked next to a stock Kenari when I snapped the photos herein. It is because of this you can clearly see what major differences that the car with the Impreza scoop has compared with the standard car. And if you paid any attention, there isn't any major difference between the car with the scoop and the standard car. Aside from the aftermarket wheels everything else is basically like the standard car beside it. The car isn't even lowered. I suppose the owner thinks that the scoop will add some visual drama or a billion more horsepower. Deep down inside he wishes he was driving a Subaru. But the scoop will do for now. The next question is whether the owner is happy with the one modification done (that Impreza scoop) or will he continue modding that breadvan of his. All I know is that if Subaru actually made royalty on all the Malaysian cars that used the Impreza scoop (and there are many), they wouldn't need to sell cars, only scoops.

Subaru has unveiled the all-new fourth-generation Impreza at the New York Motor Show, which it claims to be more efficient than the outgoing model. Which is all well and good, but what happened to the Subaru of before? Subaru used to be known for their cutting edge design and technology. Its Legacy models were handsome and understated-looking executive cars, and the Impreza were highly impressive performers, as evidenced by their success in the World Rally Championship during the 1990s. However, ever since it withdrew from rallying a few years ago, the company seems to be going downhill. The Legacy now looks like a mess, and now we have this dull-looking new Impreza. I don't know about you, but this new model doesn't come across as very exciting to me. I don't think car enthusiasts will go ga-ga over the new Impreza. What's happened to Subaru?

Every morning for the past 2 months, when I drove past the road opposite Citibank, I will see a white impreza parked on the side road on double yellow line and the driver will always not be around. I am curious did he park there the whole day or since last night? Thou not very heavy traffic,, but being a 2 lane road and this car is blocking one of the lane, I find it quite inconsiderate. Anyone notice this car as well?

Geneva again: Subaru previews the Impreza XV crossover vehicle
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
[extract] -Subaru Impreza XV Turbo diesel. Subaru have been pretty quiet since they launched the new Forester, Impreza and Legacy recently. Maybe this is a good thing since there was a slight uproar when the Impreza was launched awhile back. From a slightly demented looking sedan it had become a slightly dull looking hatchback. Of course people have gotten used to it and now Subaru thinks that the world needs a crossover version of the Impreza so they launched it at Geneva recently. Subaru have decided to call it the Impreza XV instead of using the 'Outback' name as their Legacy models. Why Subaru have done so is a small mystery to me. Anyway,- 5 comments

hi guys, i'm getting my first executive car (been driving Honda occasionally). And is having a hard time considering between these (auto or steptronic): 1) Mazda 3 2) Subaru Impreza 4D 3) Mitsubishi Lancer EX Which of these do you guys recommend for me? I dun mind slow pickup, main thing is style, safety, comfort, cheaper maintainance (and spare parts), and the ability to drive all the way up to 10 years. Once i get something, i like to hold on to it forever. Alternatively, i'm also considering these two: 1) Hyundai Avante 1.6A S 2) KIA Cerato Forte But always heard from friends that korean cars are not so good.... If can cut costs to get same features, i dun see why not though...

The fourth generation 2012 Subaru Impreza has arrived, and to paraphrase Huey Lewis, the first thing you might notice is that it's hip to be square... er. Underneath its skin, the new Impreza says a few things that Americans aren't so used to

Hi everyone, I wonder if you guys have any good lobangs to buy parts for the Subaru Impreza 08 4-door sedan? Am driving a 2.0 RS sedan now, been trying to look for autoshops that sell parts, bodykits to replace the damaged ones that I have, but all of them refer me to Motor Image. In my opinion Motor Image's mark-up is quite high and the 'rareness' of the 4-door 08 version in Singapore is making it difficult for the small group of us to source for replacement parts.
