  3. <Designer Of The Mazda Miata, Shunji Tanaka, Dies Aged 75 Thanks for everything, Tanaka-San. Shunji Tanaka, the chief designer of the original (NA) Mazda MX-5 Miata, has passed away. The announcement was made on Facebook by a close friend and chairperson of the MX-5 Club Tanaka was a member of, Mr. Katsuyuki Satake. A translation by a fellow enthusiast alerted CarBuzz to the news with a simple statement, "I'm so sorry to announce that Mr. Tanaka, the Chief Designer of NA MX-5 has passed away on Dec. 12th at the age of 75." Apparently, Mr. Tanaka's last words were, "I have no regret in my life." It's unclear what Tanaka died of, but he was right, not having any regrets. He gave the world the seminal small sports car. The Miata is the Porsche 911 of small sports cars and has a legacy and reputation some manufacturers can only dream of. Mazda Friends Of MX-5/Facebook Mazda Mazda Mazda It remains the world's best-selling sports car and one of the most affordable ways for automotive enthusiasts to have fun. Mazda may be moving over to hybrid power for the MX-5 in future, but we're sure the fun element will be retained. For now, it remains true to its origins. Despite being head designer of the Miata, Tanaka did not get as much attention as the lead engineers, Toshihiko Hirai and Takao Kijima. These two men were responsible for making the Miata the epic driving tool, while Tanaka was responsible for the exterior and interior design. While the Miata certainly deserves praise as a driving tool, the design is as much a part of a very successful and lucrative roadster. Before the Miata came along, the roadster had all but died out. It continued the ethos of British roadsters but rectified their build quality and reliability issues for a complete package like no other. Friends of MX-5 Miata/Facebook Mazda MX-5 Miata 25 years The NA Miata was such a hit, an entire book was written about it when it turned 25. As you can see, the famous pop-up headlights and smiling face were always a part of the design, inspired by the Lotus Elan. According to Tanaka, the concept for the Miata was a "Swinging Time Machine." In short, it was a symbol of freedom and meant to provide a thrilling open-top experience that brought the driver closer to nature. Many people don't know this, but the first concept was designed in California. Mazda approved the project, which sparked the initial design phase. After completing the project, it was shipped to Japan, where a disapproving Tanaka met it. Mazda MX-5 Miata 25 years MX-5 Miata Forum MX-5 Miata Forum According to interviews with Tanaka, he thought the design was too Americanized, and there was no way to identify it as a lightweight sports car. He didn't beat around the bush. He also said the US team must have "eaten too much steak and forgotten the delicacy of Japanese cuisine." You can see the difference between the California concept and Tanaka's clay model in the photos above, with the redesign taking influence from his wife's love of Japanese Noh masks that seemingly change expression depending on the angle they are viewed from. Whether his comments were too harsh or not, history speaks for itself. The NA Miata is a driving and design icon, and Shunji Tanaka was responsible for half of that. Rest in peace Tanaka-San. Your legacy lives on in the heart of every Miata fan. Kenji Matsuda/Facebook Friends of MX-5 Miata/Facebook 佐竹克行/Facebook 佐竹克行/Facebook>
  4. A rebadged Deepal S07? Mazda is fast-tracking its EV expansion by leaning on its Chinese partner. After launching the EZ-6 last year, the sedan’s SUV counterpart has now been revealed on the Weibo social media platform. The EZ-60 is also coming alive courtesy of a tie-up with Changan, a state-owned automaker. Their 50:50 joint venture, founded over a decade ago, helped Mazda launch the 6e in Europe. Similarly, this new model should be sold outside China as the CX-6e. Essentially, we’re dealing with a production version of the Arata concept. It’s an attempt at making another electric SUV with the hope that it’ll be more successful than the slow-selling MX-30. It looks sharp, and we’re pleasantly surprised to see flying buttresses, which are uncommon in this body style. In case you're wondering, mirror-replacing side cameras have been legal on production vehicles in China for about two years. The Tesla Model Y competitor is likely a Deepal S07 underneath the skin, implying a fully electric drivetrain and a range-extending variant with a 1.5-liter gas engine. However, whether the latter powertrain will be available in Europe is unclear. Mazda only offers the Model 3-fighting EZ-6 sedan as a pure EV for now. If you're unfamiliar with Deepal, it's the electric subsidiary brand of Changan. Mazda is considering a third and fourth model from its JV with Changan. If approved, the additional vehicles will be released between 2028 and 2030. In the meantime, the Zoom-Zoom company is working on its own platform for EVs. The first model is scheduled to come out in 2027, with derivatives to follow by the decade's end.

  10. Official drawings of the 2019 Mazda3 – keep in mind that at this time, we don’t know if it will be sold as a 2019MY or 2020MY in the U.S.A. and Canada. The new “3” will employ Mazda’s latest Skyactiv-Vehicle Architecture. The platform is said to be stronger while providing a much better ride quality. But the big news for the fourth-generation “3” is the debut of Mazda’s new SkyActiv-X gasoline enginefeaturing Spark Controlled Compression Ignition. This innovative four-cylinder unit combines characteristics of diesel and regular gasoline engines, using spark plug ignition to “control compression ignition”. In short, it ignites the fuel-air mixture similar to a diesel engine promising to combine the fuel efficiency of the former with all the benefits of a gasoline unit, without the emissions penalty. Mazda forecasts an output of around 190 horsepower with 170 lb-ft (230Nm) of peak torque from the 2.0-liter version. That puts it well above today’s 2.0-liter Skyactiv-G that delivers 155hp and 150 lb-ft (203Nm) and on par with the bigger 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G with 184hp and 185 lb-ft (250Nm). The difference here is that Mazda is targeting at least a 20 percent improvement in fuel economy and up to 25 percent less carbon dioxide emissions over the current Skyactive G engines. 11. Comparing between 1. Saab 93 SportCombi 2. Subaru Legacy GT Wagon (BP9) 3. Volvo V50 (2.4 or T5) All used cars, price comparable and OMV also in the low to mid 30s. Will use for about 4 years to scrap, so depreciation also about the same. Dont intend to mod or chip up beyond stage 1. Which of above better choice in terms of drive, servicing, reliability, workshop n parts? Like to hear from those who have experience. with the above.
  12. Designed by ChangAn Mazda JV, this model is currently and likely be for the Chinese market only. Sitting on 19-inch aero wheels, the Mazda EZ-6 has a large panoramic glass roof and frameless doors. Reports from China indicate the electric/plug-in hybrid sedan is based on the ChangAn Deepal SL03 but pushed upmarket with a fancier interior. The cabin doesn't appear to have much in common with the Mazda products sold globally, which would explain the Chinese connection. It does seem like a nice place to be in, and that full-length "floating" center console is interesting. The Mazda EZ-6 gets a rear-wheel-drive setup as an electric model. It has a perfect 50:50 weight distribution and a multi-link rear suspension. The unspecified battery pack is good for 600 Km of range per the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC). The plug-in hybrid can cover 1,000 Km before running out of gas and battery juice. As for size, it's 4,920 mm long, 1,890 mm wide, and 1,483 mm tall. That makes it slightly bigger than the outgoing 6. Speaking of which, Mazda has already ruled out replacing the 6 we all know with a new generation on the company's RWD platform with inline-six engines. For now, that architecture is exclusively used by four SUVs: CX-60, CX-70, CX-80, and CX-90.
  13. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/684207/2024-vw-passat-debut-specs/ Volkswagen killed the Passat in the United States after the 2022MY but the midsize family car soldiered on in Europe with its more sophisticated MQB underpinnings. The Old Continent is getting a ninth generation of Wolfsburg's best-selling nameplate ever, after the Golf but ahead of the Beetle. Since the vehicle's inception in 1973, VW has delivered 30+ million units. The new B9 comes strictly as a wagon as the sedan is officially dead. Featuring revised underpinnings (MQB Evo) shared with the upcoming next-gen Tiguan and Golf Mk8 facelift, the 2024 Passat Variant is considerably larger than the old Euro-spec B8. It now stretches at 193.5 inches (4917 millimeters) in length, therefore making it a substantial 5.7 in (144 mm) longer than before. Width is up by 0.8 in (20 mm) to 72.9 in (1852 mm) while height is largely unchanged, at 59.2 in (1506 mm). As for the wheelbase, it has been elongated by 1.97 in (50 mm) to 111.8 in (2841 mm). While not revolutionary, the styling isn't evolutionary either since there are quite a few changes as VW has aligned the new Passat with the design of its electric ID models. Recently spotted without any camouflage, the ID.7 Variant looks a tad more futuristic but the similarities are easy to notice. As usual, the exterior appearance will depend on the trim level: Passat, Business, Elegance, and R-Line. Wheels up to 19 inches in size are going to be offered, along with newly developed matrix LED headlights and dynamic LEDs at the rear where a light bar has been fitted. The interior represents a complete departure from the Passat B8 since VW has eliminated most of the switchgear. You'll be accessing nearly all of the available functions from the touchscreen, which will measure a generous 12.9 inches even in the base model. At an additional cost, the infotainment can be upsized to 15 inches. A fully digital 10.25-inch instrument cluster is standard, so the German brand is saying goodbye to the good ol' analog dials that were offered on the outgoing Passat. By moving the gear selector onto the steering column, the engineers were able to free up space between the seats for extra cargo capacity in the same vein as on the ID.7. Further mirroring the electric sedan is a new switch on the left side to control the turn signals and wipers. Comfort in the front can increase by opting for the new heated, ventilated, and massaging seats with 14-way electrical adjustment. That jump in size we mentioned earlier has not only increased legroom but also the luggage compartment capacity by 1.41 cubic feet (40 liters) to 24.3 cu ft (690 l) with the rear seats up. Fold the bench and the volume jumps to 67.8 cu ft (1,920 l) or a whopping 4.9 cu ft (140 liters) more than on the previous Passat Variant. The engine lineup is comprehensive and it includes a mild-hybrid gasoline unit for the first time in the Passat's history. It's a 1.5-liter eTSI cylinder deactivation technology and 148 horsepower (110 kilowatts). Up next is a bigger 2.0 TSI with 201 hp (150 kW) in front-wheel-drive flavor and a more potent configuration with 261 hp (195 kW) and 4Motion all-wheel drive. If you'll still want a diesel in 2024, VW has got you covered with its 2.0 TDI offered in three states of tune: 121 hp (90 kW) and 148 hp (110 kW) as FWD models and 190 hp (142 kW) with AWD. All gasoline and diesel versions of the new Passat route power to the road via a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. Then there are the plug-in hybrids marketed as "eHybrid" models. The base variant offers 201 hp (150 kW) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque whereas the more potent model pushes out 268 hp (200 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), making it the strongest Passat money can buy. These two PHEVs get a 1.5-liter TSI, a six-speed DSG, and a 19.7-kWh battery pack providing up to 62 miles (100 kilometers) of electric range. With the new-generation Passat, VW has implemented support for DC fast-charging at 50 kW to juice up the battery from 10 to 80 percent in approximately 25 minutes. With the battery charged and a full tank of gas (11.9 gallons or 45 liters), you'll be able to drive for around 621 miles (1,000 kilometers) before having to refuel. Making its public debut next week at IAA Munich, the 2024 VW Passat is scheduled to go on sale in the first quarter of next year. It won't be built in Germany anymore as production is moving to Bratislava, Slovakia where it's going to be assembled alongside the new Skoda Superb. Unlike the wagon-only Passat, its Czech sibling will retain both liftback and wagon body styles. 14. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/693042/mazda-iconic-sp-concept-rotary/ The Mazda Iconic SP concept made its debut at the Japan Mobility Show today with a novel feature that sports car fans have been clamoring for since 2012: a rotary engine. Looking very much like the company’s Vision Study design piece from last year, the fixed-roof Iconic SP is a bit larger than the current MX-5 Miata, making it a tantalizing continuation of the RX-7’s legacy. But unlike that legendary coupe, the Iconic SP makes use of its two-rotor mill not to drive the wheels, but to charge a battery of unknown capacity, which then sends juice to an unspecified electric motor layout. While there are those burning questions about the so-called R-EV’s powertrain specifics, wherever the juice comes from, there sure is a lot of it – 365 horsepower to be precise. Mazda says the rotary can run on a variety of fuels, including hydrogen and renewable fuel, and the battery can also be plugged into a home outlet to recharge it. Coming in at 164.6 inches long by 82.8 inches wide and 45.2 inches high, the Iconic SP is 10.5 inches longer than a current MX-5 Miata and 4.1 inches shorter than a 1995 RX-7. According to the company, the Iconic SP weighs in at a slightly portly 1,450 kilograms (3,197 pounds), making it about 400 pounds heavier than the RX-7 and about 800 pounds more than the Miata. Such is the price one pays for electrons, and the Iconic SP still isn’t that heavy compared to the 3,342-pound Toyota Supra or 3,519-pound Nissan Z. It wears its size very well, too. Mazda says the compact powertrain allows a very low hood and ultra-compact dimensions, and the Iconic SP’s Coke-bottle fenders provide a modern contrast to the RX-7-style windows and rear hatch. The automaker’s modern grille shape appears on the nose, and Venn-diagram taillights recall both the NA-generation Miata and FC-generation RX-7. The doors open in a graceful, upward motion, not unlike Aston Martin's swan wing design. The Iconic SP is painted a beautiful shade called Viola Red, which is brighter than the company’s signature Soul Red Crystal – appropriate for a sports car. Inside, the Iconic SP is a triumph of minimalism, with a typewriter-key gear selector, digital instrument cluster, and small infotainment display being the only distractions from its curvaceous, flowing design. The kakenui stitching first seen on the CX-90 SUV appears on the Iconic SP concept’s dashboard and door panels, and the seats wear biofabric upholstery (a word we haven’t heard Mazda use since it developed a seat material made from renewable plastic in 2009). The combination of plug-in electric and range-extender tech isn’t new, even at Mazda – the MX-30 PHEV has a 0.8-liter single-rotor powerplant under the hood to keep the battery charged. The two-rotor engine in the Iconic SP might displace 1.6 liters, given the MX-30 uses a 0.8-liter single-rotor design. What’s more, the mill in the sports car can be used as a V2L generator, appropriate for everything from tailgate parties to backup power during severe weather. Mazda describes the engine architecture as scalable, so it’s possible the renewable-fuel rotary technology could be used for other applications. Dedicated home generators could make use of small-displacement rotaries, while larger vehicles could potentially daisy-chain rotors together to make bigger power. That said, the Iconic SP concept is a vehicle that is intended to underscore Mazda’s commitment to driving enjoyment first and foremost. “Mazda will always deliver vehicles that remind people that cars are pure joy and an indispensable part of their lives,” said company Representative Director, President, and CEO Masahiro Moro. “As a car-loving company that mass produces the inspiring mobility experience, we are committed to shaping the future … where everyone can proudly say, ‘We love cars.’”
  15. Mazda driver must have thought a giant took a s*** on his car. What happened? A Mazda driver was travelling along Marymount Lane when they no doubt s*** themselves after it looked like someone s*** on their car. As we can see in the video, a construction zone beside the road had some equipment malfunction, with a cable/tube snapping and unleashing a torrent of mud. The unlucky Mazda was able to get ahead by just a bit before the massive brown load splattered all over the road, leaving part of his windshield unobscured while the rear and roof of the car was covered in the filth. The brown shower did not end there however, as we see the mud continue to gush out of a tube before it finally ended. If there is a silver lining, maybe it’s that it could have smelled worse? Online chatter Some made joke of the free ‘mud bath’. Others were a little more concerned that this could happen, as if it was metal or concrete that fell instead there would be far more damage and possible casualties. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 16. For today, it's the Mazda CX-30! So, what is the Mazda CX-30? A crossover? A Mazda 3 in taller boots? Let Jon tell you all about it! In the simplest of terms, this is what the Mazda CX-30 is. But if you still don't really understand what Jon means.... Yes. The CX-30 is the taller version of the Mazda 3 Hatchback. Mazda's Kodo design language is arguably one of the best design languages in the car industry, currently, at least to this writer. The Kodo design language carries itself around pretty well, from sedan to SUV, and it almost seems like Mazda can do no wrong with it. Not the most generous boot capacity, admittedly. But, the CX-30 has a flat load floor! Perfect if you want to transport bigger or bulkier items like a bicycle or IKEA furniture. No weird hump in the middle of the car floor to give you difficulty. At Jon's height, he still has a decent amount of legroom. Not to mention, the leather in the CX-30 is quite a lovely colour. But yes, headroom is a drawback. Especially since there is a sunroof. So, taller people, do take note. Jon still has some headroom but it isn't much. This writer daresays Mazda is killing it with the design of the dashboard layout. Clean, simple lines with a rectangular screen positioned at an optimal angle, and with physical buttons for the important things like air-conditioning and music control. It's really intuitive. Took the words right out of this writer's mouth you did, Jon. Well, with these power levels, you won't be winning many traffic light races. But hey, it's more than enough for overtaking on the expressway, plus Mazda's SkyActiv engines do make their cars feel a little more brisk than what the spec sheet claims to be. Want to know more about what Jon has to say about the Mazda CX-30? Watch the video below to find out!
  17. SUV stands for ‘Sports Utility Vehicle’, but that doesn’t mean it’s suited to actual sport. Especially if you aren’t a great driver. Like this Mazda driver for example. What happened? On Wednesday at 7.20p.m this week, a Mazda CX9 driver decided to test the ‘sports’ part of his SUV by making an ambitious lane change on Bartley Road. Attempting to cross two lanes in one go, the CX9, to its credit, activated its turn signal and crossed one lane with no issue. However, on the targeted lane, a Honda HRV was right beside the Mazda. Upon realising the Mazda’s intention, the HRV accelerated ahead to either give it a slot in the lane or avoid being crushed. But the Mazda would not relent or slow down, and hit the Honda in the side. The Honda then stopped, keeping the Mazda behind it and both cars blocked a lane each. It's worth noting that offenders of reckless driving will face up to 12 months of imprisonment, being fined up t0 $5,000 or both. Online chatter Some people actually blamed the Honda for speeding up, while others praised it sarcastically. Others just insulted the Mazda driver for driving as if it was his grandfather’s road. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 18. TL;DR - Mazda 5 driver’s failure to obey traffic rules sent a pedestrian flying at Yuan Ching Road. This Mazda driver definitely lives up to the standard of being a ‘kiasu’ Singaporean. Watch this to see what I mean. What Happened? A (dramatic) footage surfaced on SGRV of a Mazda driver knocking down a pedestrian and sending him in the air at Yuan Ching Road. The traffic light was green for pedestrian crossing (with a significant number of seconds left) when a Mazda 5 driver decided to still drive across, thinking he could out-beat the pedestrian. Unfortunately, he did not. And this ‘kiasu’ mistake resulted in the pedestrian getting banged. The young pedestrian was cartwheeled into the air from the impact, hitting his head on the concrete as he slammed into the ground. Online Chatter As much as everyone is ‘shitting’ on the Mazda driver, some also attacked the SBS bus for dashing off and the poor victim for not being careful when crossing the road (even though it was his right of way). Oh well, it seems like everyone is at fault, one way or another. So hard to please the people. Nonetheless, wishing the pedestrian a speedy recovery. And for all road users out there, please keep your eyes on the road, regardless if you’re driving or walking. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 19. Hi all, Thinking of buying a 2nd hand RX8. May I know what are all the maintenance that has to be done for this car? Is it expensive? Also, how is the FC like? Thanks

Seems like not so many cars, mine book 2 weeks in advance. I waited 1 year for this servicing, in between change oil outside once coz low millage due to semi retired, less use of the car. 2 years 6 mths more, then scrap the car since COE so high. Sharing infomation for Mazda 3 owners. For those who wants to change Capacitors, they are priced at $2.3k,they mentioned if don't change nothing wrong but battery life shortened by half, meaning 1 year change once, but your warnings lights will flash...

  23. The best all-rounder from VW is back with more power than ever and a Drift mode. Source: https://www.motor1.com/photo/5954040/volkswagen-golf-r-variant-2021/ Wagon, Combi, Variant, Estate – call it what you want, the long-roof Volkswagen Golf R lives to see a new generation to serve as a more sensible alternative to high-performance SUVs. It's not the only fast wagon in Wolfsburg's portfolio anymore as the attractive Arteon has spawned an estate version as well, complete with a spicy R derivative. The new Golf R Variant takes everything you like about the hot hatch and adds heaps of practicality courtesy of a bigger cargo area and roof rails for even greater storage capabilities. Owners can store 611 liters (21.57 cubic feet) of luggage with the rear seats in place and 1,642 liters (58 cubic feet) after folding the bench. Practicality is amplified by bag hooks, lashing eyes, and a luggage net, on top of a 12 V connection and a 230-volt socket. To sweeten the deal, VW also throws in a handsfree tailgate and dedicated controls for electrically extending and retracting towing bracket. Being bigger than the Golf R Variant Mk7, the new-generation model also offers more rear legroom thanks to a stretched wheelbase. Just about everything else has been carried over from the hatchback, including the turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine. The four-pot delivers an identical 315 horsepower (235 kilowatts) and 420 Newton-meters (310 pound-feet) of torque to create the beefiest VW wagon ever. Output is delivered to the torque-vectoring 4Motion all-wheel-drive system through a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. Because the wagon is a tad heavier than the five-door version, it needs 4.9 seconds to hit 62 mph (100 km/h) or an extra 0.2s over the hatch. Top speed stays the same, at 155 mph (250 km/h) for the standard version and 168 mph (270 km/h) if you go for the R Performance Package. The optional kit also replaces the standard 18-inch wheels with a 19-inch set and adds Special (Nürburgring mode) and Drift driving profiles. As with the versions before it, the new Golf R Variant will mostly be a European affair. It's scheduled to go on sale from mid-August in Germany, UK, and Switzerland. Pricing details have not been disclosed, but it will likely cost a tad more than the Golf R hatchback available in its domestic market from €49,400. The wagon will cross the €50,000 threshold, making it the most expensive production Golf ever, but still significantly cheaper than the €61,980 Arteon Shooting Brake R.

Holding the title of the largest automaker in the world requires constant progress. Every day we are getting breaking news about the possible Toyota MR2 successor. One day it’s a small four-cylinder turbo and the next day it’s a hybrid. Yet, respected Japanese publication Best Car, states it will be an EV. A possible collaboration with Mazda also may be in the pipeline. From what we know, it may be a 500-horsepower, 4WD sports car around the size of the GR Supra. Development has already begun for this projected model. If everything goes according to plan, we should see them stateside by 2026. WORD FROM INSIDERS - THE MR2 IS HAPPENING An inside source at Toyota states that they are in development of their next-gen EV sports car. Toyota revived the fire of enthusiasts with the GR Supra. Can they do the same without the help of a combustion engine? Japanese manufacturers Nissan and Honda have also begun to push into the sports EV market. Does Toyota feel the pressure? In December of 2021, they held an event for future EV models. Amongst them was a variety of sports cars. Yet, there are few details about the concepts presented at that event. A Toyota source says the intention of making an EV sports car is real, however, so there is some legitimacy to the concepts. GAME-CHANGING BATTERIES? One of the most difficult aspects of making an EV sports car appealing is performance of the battery. Current lithium-ion options have seen many optimizations. Yet, they still can’t be seen as the true replacement to combustion engines. To solve this issue, Toyota has teamed up with Panasonic to develop new battery tech. Known as "solid-state" batteries, they are more efficient in every aspect. Cruising range is twice that of an equal lithium-ion with the same capacity. Charging times should be half that of current technology along with less deterioration. This will be a game-changing tech and Toyota plans to have it in production by 2026. This lines up exactly with their timeline of their next-gen sports EV. Toyota is the company that first introduced electrification at a production level. They have over 1,000 patents related to hybrid and battery tech. The first prototype of the solid-state battery could be as early as Q4 2022. FASTER AND MORE CAPABLE THAN WE IMAGINED This emerging tech is still very expensive and unfit for mass production right now. This is why their first venture with the tech will be in a niche market, such as sport EVs. Yet, the power capabilities are well beyond what we expected out of a possible MR2 successor. The first generation MR2 struggled to make even 100 wheel horsepower. According to the Toyota source, the new battery and motor combo will have a power output of 500 horsepower. Can you imagine that? Even more impressive is that the system will be 4WD with dual front and rear motors. Yet, don’t expect the mini proportions we know of the Toyota MR2. Instead, the car will be the body size of the current GR Supra. It is even possible that this technology will lead to a solid-state battery GR Supra first. Mazda has also hinted at a collaboration with Toyota in the sport EV space. Yet, their offering will be a crazy rotary-powered EV. The rotary-engine will serve only for power generation for the battery. We have never seen any powertrain in a sports car do that before, so it will be revolutionary. As technology continues to develop, we will see exciting changes in the sports EV market.
