  1. Officially unveiled at the Vantage Automotive Centre, the Atto 3 debuts as BYD's first-ever contender in the local compact crossover segment. Coincidentally, the SUV also marks the third passenger-car model by the Chinese maker here, following in the footsteps of the best-selling e6 and van-turned-MPV M3e. A single permanent magnet synchronous motor, paired to a 60.5 kWh Blade Battery, helps to produce 201bhp (150kW) and 310Nm of torque - apparently good for a 7.3 second century sprint. With the Blade Battery, the crossover's NEDC-rated range also clocks in at an impressive figure of 480km. Thanks to its battery architecture, DC fast charging via CCS at up to 80kW is offered on the Atto 3, bringing the battery from 20% to 80% state-of-charge within 42 minutes. AC charging at up to 6.6kW, on the other hand, will see a full recharge done in 9.5 hours. Worth noting is that the Atto 3 falls under the A1 band of the VES, allowing it to qualify for the highest ARF rebate of $25,000. The Atto 3 comes with a refreshing dual-tone interior, mixing blue and beige upholstery (in our eyes at least - the combination is called "Eclipse Blue + Hazy Grey" by BYD) with red-stitching on the seats. Shaped contours across the dash, guzheng-inspired strings along the door bins, and disc-like aircon vents all continue to distinguish the cabin of the crossover. While the driver gets a fully digital five-inch display behind the multi-function steering wheel, taking centerstage is the 12.8-inch Intelligent Rotating Infotainment Display, which can be oriented in either 'portrait' or 'landscape' mode. Another high-tech feature the car offers is the ability to be unlocked and locked via an NFC Keycard. Strangely, it appears that Apple CarPlay and Android Auto will only be available in Q4, although Bluetooth Phone Connectivity does come as standard. A BYD OS App will also debut somewhere down the line. The marque's name is spelt out boldly in capital letters too on the car's electrically-operated tailgate, which opens up to 440 litres of boot space (this can be expanded to 1,340 litres with 60:40 folding seats). Five different colours are available for potential owners of the Atto 3, including Surf Blue and Parkour Red. Test drives for the BYD Atto 3 are now being offered and the car open for booking. Local authorised dealer E-Auto has also announced that the car will launch with a special price of $178,888 (the number is supposed to be auspicious), inclusive of COE. Feature Highlights Wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto Wireless Smartphone Charging Inbuilt Navigation Electric Tailgate Sunroof Driver and Passenger Electric Seats 12.8" Intelligent Rotating Touchscreen 360° View Camera Adaptive Cruise Control Lane Keep Assist Lane Departure Warning Blind Spot Monitor Rear Cross Traffic Alert Front and Rear Pre-collision Warning Had the opportunity to visit Vantage before the Atto 3's official launch and I must say I left the showroom impressed with the direction BYD is going with its electric vehicles. Granted, the interior styling might be a bit tacky for some, but it is mighty packed with features. Full specs and features here.
  2. It's the year end and a few of us have talked about catching up, and just chilling So I suggested this place, apt name for a car forum, with easy parking, open air spaces, and good kopi. So if anyone is keen, we will be there next Thurs 11.45 am 28th December. @Carbon82 @Ct3833 @Mkl22 and more, come come 🙂 https://ordinarypatrons.com/2023/05/24/fuel-plus-a-cafe-at-the-foot-of-mt-faber/ This place serves good coffee, a nice brunch, and you can park right outside the place!
  3. hi bros and sisters in mycarforum... i was wondering if anyone was driving the above mentioned car... it's a 1.5L MIVEC turbo producing stock 145bhp, mated to 6CVT and does 0-100kph in 8.5s... i'm considering getting a 2nd hand one, probably a 4.5yrs old selling at $38,000... it's got auto headlamps, auto tailgate, and keyless entry which can fold the mirrors, and close all windows remotely when outside the car... may i know if there are problems with the car and how to settle it?? thanks.
  4. I have seen the interest in Home Theatre chat increase, so I figured why not share about it, and also make a thread where everyone can share on this too. So I put together a few thoughts: (TLDR) The home theatre (HT) system has been a mainstay of every man's home since music began. We used to have just a stereo pair, then we moved all the way to multi-channel systems, with separates, cables galore, Blue Ray players and other gear as we tried to recreate the home theatre at home. Whilst the desire by the missus for less clutter has tried to move things away from big black boxes back to near tiny ones, Covid has intensified the rebirth of the home theatre system, even if it is only in the form of the soundbar. Being cooped up at home for months during the height of the epidemic has made us aware of how woefully small the TV we own is, and there was a huge surge in upgrades of the TV, along with cable cutting and subscription to various streaming platforms. However, after buying that fancy TV, with the latest apps and 4k resolution, you think you're in TV heaven, enjoying some high quality images. But when you begin streaming movies that indicate they are master in Atmos, somehow the sound is flat. Or worse, even for free to air TV broadcasts, the dialogue is not very audible and the TV speakers don't even go that loud. Well, with the advent of wafer thin TV sets, there is no more room to put proper speakers inside. Don't let those specs of "20W per channel with subwoofer" fool you. Some TVs even say they are Atmos equipped. Remember, to get a full home theatre surround experience, you need sound to come from the front, the sides and for Atmos, from the top, or at least have sound bounce off surfaces so they sound like they are not just radiating from the front. Many home owners who live in smaller settings and are not audiophiles, don't want the clutter of running speaker cables all over, and rue to have large speaker boxes flanking their TVs. Even an external subwoofer is something that seems out of place in their idea of a well decorated room. Cue the soundbar. If you believe the marketing, a soundbar will be able to give you that home theatre experience, sans the clutter and cables, and even sound good in music. Let's first get the caveats out of way... Soundbars can range in price from a couple of hundred dollars to a few thousand. Some utilise internal subwoofers whilst others require you to buy one. Others also sell separate surround speakers, which are called wireless speakers. A few are really wireless, as they run on built in batteries, whilst others still need a plug in power source. Now even the best top of the line ones won't give you the same immersion as a full fledge surround sound system for the same money. What you gain in aesthetics, you lose in immersion. Furthermore, it is very important to check the actual number of channels in your soundbar. The basic ones also carry "Atmos" logos on the box, but they may only contain two channels and make use of psycho-acoustics to simulate surround. So it's just trickery and not real surround. Even those with extra channels for the sides, and Atmos channels rely on reflections, which means ideally you need to be seated in a centre of a rectangle room, with reflective solid walls on all sides and also on top. How many of us use or sit in such a room? The soundbars are also necessarily slim with a thin profile to fit under the wall or table top TV sets, so they do not block the screen. This has an impact on the size and quality of the drivers used and consequently, the sound quality. Music playback, especially for those entry level ones are pretty nasty. The other thing is money. Take a certain amount of money that you are willing to pay. The returns on sound quality is proportionately reduced accordingly to the number of channels you are buying. Take a stereo set, with only two speakers, all the money goes towards the amplification, the drivers and cabling for only two speakers. Once you add more channels, the amount spent on developing each additional channel will then impact and reduce what they can spend on each channel, thereby reducing the sound quality. So my advice for those with a limited budget is to assess what's important: having a Atmos sticker and a more disappointing experience or get something without that and just improve dialogue and music. In my opinion, the bottom line for getting external speakers is to improve the viewing and listening experience. After all, the sound bar is meant for improving dialogue first and foremost, then aid in some enhancement of the movie listening experience, and sound reasonable in music. I'm realistic with what soundbars can recreate. To really create a surround experience, choose a soundbar that has real side surround speakers. As for Atmos, you will be need upfiring speakers, and if your side / rear surrounds are also equipped with them, the surround immersion will be even better. So if you are limited to a single bar solution, the surround effect will be largely determined by how flat and reflective your ceiling is. The higher end ones will also be equipped with a calibration tool of sorts and this helps to determine how far the soundbar and any other speakers are located from your sitting position. The other feature that I look out for is a subwoofer. Here you have some choices. The ideal one is that you have a dedicated external subwoofer, that will partner with the soundbar. Some brands offer the choice of buying the soundbar with or without the sub, and I highly recommend the former if a good movie experience is what you are after. Built in subwoofers are usually quite weaker. Others use some port trickery to accentuate the bass, but few soundbars reach below 60 Hz without a good sub. If the soundbar offers an external sub-out, that's an interesting option too. What are the various levels of soundbars? - well even a single speaker can act as a sound bar, if clearer or louder diction is all you require - two speakers allows stereo output, and some make sure of these to generate a pseudo-surround by adding time delays - three speakers is the beginning of a real soundbar. This allows clearer dialogue from a dedicated centre channel - 5 channels gives you side surround and either reflections from side walls or a real side surround speaker can really up the surround experience - most soundbars won't get you 7 ear level surround speakers, so 7 channels usually means 5 plus a pair of upfiring Atmos speaker - if there are nine channels, the soundbar either goes for more upfiring Atmos channels or occasionally 7 ear level channel To these channels one can add a sub to make the sound more robust and the tactile feel is very important for movies Even a two channel stereo system can double up as a soundbar, but the wider the gap between the speakers, the more obvious the gap if you do not sit in the centre. The centre speaker is vital for the best movie experience. Now placement of these speakers is vital. The surround channels need to be at least in line with the sitting position or slightly behind it. Check the manual for the specific model for what the manufacturer suggests Then if the soundbar allows levels adjustment, that will be great. Having a distance level adjustment is also important Some have their own calibration tools, and this really helps, and others just hope for the best. The higher end ones usually feature this. Finally some features that may allow you get a better listening experience: - DTS decoding. This feature is becoming more rare these days, and not all brands offer it - extra HDMI inputs. If you want your soundbar to be the centre of your home entertainment system, this is a good thing to have - eARC. This should be standard in all 2023 soundbars, but it isn't. However it isn't so important if you only have two channels / drivers and your entry level soundbar isn't capable of high resolution audio. - streaming options are always welcome, but accessing them is what differentiates the user experience and this boils down to the app as well as the remote - physical remote. As strange as it sounds, some high end models are no longer offered with this and that makes the assumption you only use the eARC input and your TV is the main controller. - input buttons. I like to be able to program certain streaming channels so I can access them with a press of a single button and that's not always available. In fact it is pretty rare. Kudos to Bose and Denon on this front. Now for the nitty gritty.. I like to have attention to detail and these details make or break a purchase. Make sure you measure the height of the bar and check that it sits properly under your TV especially if the TV is sitting on your table top. Check the width too in case it's too wide to fit between the legs of your TV. How is the wifi quality. Do some homework. Certain models experience frequent dropouts in the subwoofer and surround connection to the main soundbar. How easy is the setup and does daily use require many presses of the buttons on the soundbar app. Are there physical buttons for adjustments on the bar? There is no need to buy the same brand as your TV or Blu Ray player. Some offer a few more buttons the TV remote that control the playback, that's it. Sony is one of the few brands that has a centre speaker mode, that allows you to use the TV as a centre speaker for it's A9 model, but that's because it does not come with a centre speaker. If music matters, bring some of your favorite tracks to audition. Or even bring a USB drive of your favorite movie scene. But a caveat is that not all soundbars have a USB port and you may have to rely on the one on the TV. Will you require an entire home ecosystem of sound? Then choose a brand such as Sonos, Bose or Denon which have some system that allows you to listen to music from one source wherever you place a speaker. Do pay attention to the weight of the bar, and see if your console is strong enough, or if you wall mount it, how strong is the feature wall and does it stick out a lot? What is the version of Bluetooth and does it support APTX for better sound. I like Airplay too as it fits into my ecosystem. I prefer a physical remote and one that uses AA or AAA batteries. My philosophy is to get a good one so you do not get buyer's remorse and end up being unhappy or dissatisfied with the sound from the word go. Be realistic with how good the immersion is, especially if you do not sit in an ideal room.
  5. Morgan is a British automobile maker that makes some very unique, vintage-inspired cars. It’s also very likely that many readers would have never heard of them. But you can now buy them in Singapore as the cars are now being sold here by NB Auto, from a modest facility tucked away in Tuas, along Benoi Crescent. We spoke to the firm’s director, Douglas Ng, on why there was a decision to become the dealership for such a niche product. He explains that his family had always held great enthusiasm for old-school British sports cars, and he was also heavily influenced by his father in this aspect. When the idea of actually importing and selling Morgans here came up, the family decided that it was worth a shot as an additional facet of a number of other businesses that they already manage. “Before this, others have imported Morgans into Singapore on their own before, and every one of them was by a car enthusiast who wanted something special in their collection,” Ng tells us. Yet the process of getting them in officially was a complicated affair, not helped that it was all conducted online as it happened while most of the world, including Singapore, was in lockdown because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Weeks worth of video calls to England and plenty of discussions with homologation officers from Singapore’s Land Transport Authority were what Douglas had to deal with for months to get all the official paperwork approved. “As you can see, Morgan cars are quite unique, so it’s hard to apply the LTA’s standard assessment criteria to them. Some of the brand’s models cannot be homologated here because they stray too far outside the rule,” Ng explains. “For example, the famous Morgan Three Wheeler, powered by a front-mounted Harley-Davidson engine, will not pass muster here because it has no doors, and is technically a motorcycle rather than a four-wheeled car. Yet thankfully the operations guys at the LTA are also real car enthusiasts that took a real interest in making it work for the models that can be imported here.” Currently, Morgan only has two models in its catalog that can legally be sold in Singapore: the Plus Six and Plus Four, two identically-bodied cars with different engines. The cars are still made in Malvern, Worchestershire in England, and the company has a history going back more than a century. The chassis may be all metal, but on top of that the cabin is built on a painted ash-wood frame for that authentic vintage feel. The two drop top automobiles are a throwback to an earlier age of motoring, with nearly no storage space, a manually folding roof, and doors so small that you don’t really expect them to offer much protection from side impacts. There’s actually no boot space in the Plus Six and Plus Four at all. A round hatch at the rear looks like it could cover a cargo space, but it’s actually the access panel for rear axle maintenance. The cars do fully modern drivetrains however. The Plus Six uses the engine and transmission from the BMW Z4 M40i. The 3.0-litre turbo inline six cylinder engine with 335 horsepower sends power to the rear wheels through a BMW automatic transmission with no traction control or electronic stability assistance. Meaning that if the car skids or spins its wheels from a poor launch, it’s all up to the driver to rescue it. The whole car weighs just 1,075kg. In other words, it’s a very light car with a very powerful engine, and can be yours from S$415,888, before COE. The identically shaped Plus Four is a little less scary, with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbo BMW engine with 255 horsepower in the front. The manual version goes for S$325,888 before COE, while the automatic costs an extra S$10k. “We’re not big name car dealers,” says Ng. “While it’s easy to set up shop along Leng Kee Road and hope for customers to walk in, the nature of a Morgan and the kind of cliente it attracts wouldn’t allow that business strategy to make any sense at all, and we’re taking baby steps as we move along.” NB Auto currently has one Morgan Plus Six already on display, with the Plus Four expected to make its way here soon. The facility is also able to offer full servicing, and Ng says that the Morgan HQ in England has been very supportive in helping them to establish the place. “As they are not a big company themselves, getting parts flown over or documentation endorsed is a surprisingly quick process, as they have nearly no hoops to jump through or complicated supply chain issues that larger carmakers may face.” For now though, Ng reveals that HQ has given him a “modest sales target” to meet for the first year of operation. It’s not a car for everyone, but there is enough interest amongst the well-heeled car nuts here, as well as in neighbouring countries, that are interested, and that should give some legs to the enterprise for some time yet. https://www.carbuyer.com.sg/morgan-cars-singapore-price/ richard hammond has one too the morgan plus 6 the dealership reminds me of perodua albeit a more atas one niche brand bt we have enough rich ppl in sg for it to succeed din even know we have morgans in sg... none in the used car pages morgan plus 4 fancy cars but not so suitable for us average drivers thou i reckon if u collect rolexes then u have space in ur garage for this

  8. Hi mods like @RadX, @Carbon82, @kobayashiGT and the rest, I was thinking that for some threads, we argue base on our opinions and what we learned in school. I realise a lot of the arguments stem based on experience rather than what the school actually teaches as as the years go by, even the teaching might change. So I am thinking, can we pin the latest version of BTT, FTT and RTA on certain threads so that if we want to argue or give our two cents, we have a common reference point? It might also be helpful for people reading the forum because they might not know where to look for it, phone no memory etc etc. My two cents.

  12. I would like to get feedback on this CPA+ feature that are standard in latest Mercedes. It is supposed to alert the drivers of imminent collision and, correct me if I am wrong, activate the brake to prevent collision from happening. This is definitely something that I find very useful and wanted in my ride. But my experieince so far is that the alert will come on erratically, sometimes out by miles when there is nothing to collide into but perhaps the road divider which the car is not deviating into. Think abit too sensitive. I would like to know if this could be raised during servicing and be calibrated? Also I would like to hear any first-hand account of whether this feature has saved your butt so far. In another owrds, whether this feature is well designed that I can depend on it when the need arises. I would think it would benefit fellow owners haha.

  18. Both the Audi R8 V10 Plus and the Lamborghini Huracan share the same powerplant and have similar power outputs. So who is the faster one? While some have labelled the previous Audi R8 as 'a cheaper alternative' to the Lamborghini Gallardo, it is now not fair to say so with the new generation R8. Pushing out 602bhp and 560Nm of torque, the R8 V10 Plus has the same power and torque output as the Lamborghini Huracan. Both cars have similar 0-100km/h sprint timings and an almost similar top speed too. With the R8 weighing 32kg more than the Huracan, would it lose to Lamborghini in a drag race? Watch the video and find out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lxHKCpZHkrA
  19. The Suzuki Swift has just been blessed with some new updates after being in the market for nearly five years. Launched in 2011, we found the Swift to be one of the best in its class. With the introduction of other very good rivals like the Mazda2 and the Honda Jazz, Suzuki has given the Swift some well-deserved updates to stay on top of its game. So has it succeeded? Read on to find out... Now known as the new Swift SE (Special Edition), the facelifted Swift retains most of its aesthetic qualities. Other than some new colours on the body, the car also gets new 16-inch wheels and a new front grill feature. New LED running lights feature, one of the must-have trends in new cars now. Inside, less changes have been made. Boot space remains the same, which unfortunately is now slightly outclassed by the others. Space for rear occupants is sufficient and comparable to other superminis. Dashboard design remains fresh even though nothing has been updated. Bluetooth handsfree system for phone is a new addition since the last time we drove the Swift. As for the drive, the Swift is just as good to drive as before. The steering is just as sweet as I remember and only the Mazda2 can match it in terms of steering feel and weight. While some of its rivals have gone on to use a more advanced six-speed automatic transmission, the Swift SE makes do with only a four-speeder. Thankfully, a peppy engine and a light kerbweight help mask the lack of ratios easily. 94bhp might not sound like much, but it is more than enough for local use. However, with some of its newer rivals having larger engines or turbocharging, it does feel a little left behind if all-out speed is what you are looking for. Like most Suzukis, they are fun cars to drive and the Swift is no exception. It rides with a fine balance between comfort and control and with its low mass, it stops without any fuss too. So, with everything said and done, the Swift can still keep up with most of its rivals in most aspects but it is no longer the clear choice of car in this class. With the Honda Jazz providing more space and the Ford Fiesta providing more driving fun, we might go for them instead.
  20. http://metro.co.uk/2014/07/22/meet-amazon-amanda-the-plus-size-model-who-sits-on-men-for-money-4806258/ Meet Amazon Amanda, the plus-size model who sits on men for money Alison Lynch Tuesday 22 Jul 2014 12:12 pm 115 shares Share on FacebookShare on Twitter Amanda is seen here wrestling with client Sergio (Picture: Barcroft)Good work if you can get it. Amazon Amanda (real name Amanda Soule) is, by any stretch of the imagination, a larger-than-life presence. The 38-year-old weighs 20 stone, is a statuesque 6ft 3ins in height and boasts a 44DD bust, making her a huge hit with guys who enjoy being sat on, squashed, carried, and, yes, wrestled by super-sized, Amazonian woman. After growing too big to be a mainstream model, Amanda discovered a whole subculture where she could earn money just by sitting down all day – on men, who then paid her for the privilege. Amanda often towers over her diminutive clients who like to be carried, lifted and sometimes sat on (Picture: Barcroft)Yep, she makes a living out of making men feel small. Las Vegas-based Amanda, who insists nothing sexual takes place between her and her clients, has over 6000 fans on Twitter and describes herself as ‘Amazon by height, BBW by size and goddess by nature’, according to The Mirror. She tends to tower over her diminutive clients. Despite a largely open-door policy, Amanda admits she did once have to turn down a terminally-ill client for fear she would squash him to death. LOL

  23. The Audi R8 V10 Plus. What a memorable experience. Not having driven a supercar before, I was intimidated by its width at first but soon enough, i gained confidence and boy oh boy, it was a lovely drive. This is definitely ranked pretty high up there as one of my all time favourite drives. I say so because I found myself missing that V10 note, the very responsive gearbox, the security of the quattro system and yes.. did i already mention the V10 note? Anyway, here are some unpublished photos of the feature where the R8 starred in. Hope you readers like it! The V10 Plus comes with harder spring and damper rates than the lesser V8 and V10 models. It rides pretty firm but never crashes into the bumps when going over the rougher stuff. Still pretty good considering it loses the magnetic system which the normal V10 gets. 0-100km/h in 3.5 seconds and 0-200km/h in 11.3 seconds. Credit goes to the engine in the above photo. Plus variant means more carbon fibre parts inside and outside. All in all, 50kg of weight has been shaved compared to the normal V10 R8. Love the way the door handle protrudes towards the driver to allow him/her to open for the door easily. Some may argue that this makes the car feel dated but to me, only a proper handbrake is right. Fun ends at 8,700rpm. Paddles are a joy to use. B&O sound system performs well but the V10 sounds better actually! Sideplates finished in carbon. Sexy. LED headlights piercing through the thin mist on a very cool night..
