  1. Come come, uncle teach you a new idiom today: 骑驴找马 (Riding a donkey to look for a horse) In brief (not underwear hor), it means to make do with a current, less desirable situation or opportunity while actively seeking a better one. Thieves Are Using Stolen Toyota Priuses To Hunt Down Land Cruisers The Land Cruiser remains Japan’s most stolen vehicle by a large margin in 2025. Toyota’s Prius ranks second and is reportedly used to assist in other vehicle thefts. The silent hybrid powertrain of the Prius allows criminals to quietly infiltrate neighborhoods. Authorities recommend using alarms, wheel locks, and car covers to deter criminals. According to new data from Japan’s National Police Agency, the top 10 most stolen vehicles in the first half of 2025 look very similar to previous years. Nine of the ten are either Toyotas or Lexuses, with only the Suzuki Carry breaking the streak in 10th place. It’s another clear sign that Japan’s car thieves have a strong preference for domestic brands, particularly those from Toyota. The Prius has climbed in the second spot with 289 units stolen so far in 2025. As reported by Creative Trend, criminals often use the hybrid as a means of transportation to commit other vehicle thefts. Its whisper-quiet powertrain helps them slip into neighborhoods late at night without drawing attention. While silent operation is typical of hybrid and electric models, the Prius stands out as a go-to choice. It’s easy to find in Japan, known for its reliability, and comes only in hybrid or plug-in hybrid form, making it an efficient tool for low-profile crimes. It’s not far-fetched to imagine some of these stolen Priuses were used to help steal even more valuable targets, including Land Cruisers. The Land Cruiser’s numbers are on track to hit a new high. With 765 units stolen in just six months, it may surpass 1,000 thefts by year-end, a threshold it’s never crossed before. For comparison, the General Insurance Association of Japan reported 688 thefts in 2024 and only 383 in 2023.

  3. With a less-is-more approach, the Polestar 2 Core Edition offers a more value-for-money entry into the Swedish brand. What first comes to mind when you think of Sweden? IKEA, and probably ABBA. But there's plenty more that has come out of Sweden besides flat-pack furniture, meatballs and impossibly-catchy pop songs. Founded as a standalone brand just eight years ago and headquartered in Torslanda, Sweden, Polestar is a design-forward electric performance brand that wants to put its Scandinavian mark on the EV landscape. To that end, the Polestar 2 Core Edition is a Singapore-exclusive offering that invites Singapore drivers to experience electrification with a Swedish twist. Here's five ways that the Polestar 2 Core Edition delivers on its less-is-more approach: 1. Premium entry With the Polestar 2 Core Edition, the brand seeks to deliver premium quality at an approachable price point. Given the price sensitivity of customers (especially with COE premiums where they are today), it is understandable that brands typically offer cars with reduced performance to negotiate the COE system and duck into a more palatable category. The Polestar 2 Core Edition is a Singapore-exclusive offering, and marks the entry-point to the Swedish brand At the sub-$200,000 price point that the Polestar 2 Core Edition is being pitched, most EV offerings will understandably be offered with a detuned powertrain to make it Cat A-eligible. Yet, the Polestar 2 Core Edition remains a Cat B model (power stands at 170kW), offering buyers seeking extra performance a value buy. However, as the name would suggest, this model aims to deliver the essential Polestar qualities, with a streamlined feature set to ensure that the model remains competitively priced. Performance is core to the brand identity, and so naturally the car's output remains unchanged. Essential functions like safety and driver assistance systems all come as standard. And of course, premium quality and the requisite Swedish luxury is core to the Polestar experience. The car's sleek design is marked by sharp, clean lines, and the lighting signature is immediately recognisable 2. Minimalist design It's perhaps fitting that this less-is-more offering works in concert with the brand's broader positioning. Take for example the car's design - sleek and minimalist, with a heavy dose of Scandinavian chic and simplicity. The exterior is defined by clean lines and simple yet elegant shapes. With it's raised ride height and fastback silhouette, it also cuts a distinct figure on the road. Also immediately distinguishable is the car's lighting signature: Signature DRLs at the front, square-bracket-shaped lights at the back. The infotainment interface is thoughtfully designed and easy to use, while rear passengers can also expect to lounge in premium comfort 3. Chic functionality That minimalist aesthetic also extends into the cabin. With a simplified approach to functionality, the cabin's pared back design focuses on delivering a calm and soothing ambience, together with an approachable user experience. Here, the focus on functionality is clear - you won't find gimmicky rotating screens, or be inundated with extraneous features. The infotainment system is thoughtfully organised and simple-to-operate, while physical controls have been pared back to the essential functions. Even the streamlined colours on the digital screens are consistent with the broader aesthetic - making sure there isn't any sensory overload. Premium comfort is the name of the game - the genuine leather upholstery means that all passengers on board will be lounging comfortably, and build quality is high throughout. And on the design-front, muted tones and simply composed lines have a soothing and calming effect. The 405-litre boot is easily accessed via the liftback The Polestar 2 Core Edition comes standard with an extensive suite of safety and driver assistance systems 4. Practical living With the Polestar 2 Core Edition, the streamlined equipment list means that you get what's essential and important, and the car remains as practical as ever. The liftback offers easy and convenient access to the 405-litre boot, which also has practical touches like the flip up boot partition with integrated hooks. An additional 35-litre storage compartment under the bonnet is handy for storing the charging cable, or other items as well. The car also comes as standard with an extensive suite of safety systems, useful driver assistance features such as Pilot Assist, as well as four cameras providing a 360-degree view to facilitate parking. With 170kW and 330Nm of instant electric torque, the Polestar 2 Core Edition delivers effortless acceleration and ample performance 5. Approachable performance The single electric motor produces 170kW and 330Nm of torque, offering brisk acceleration delivered in noiseless manner. The 69kWh battery delivers up to 478km of range. But beyond the raw numbers, the Polestar 2 also finds a nice balance between cruising comfort and dynamic road holding - alert enough when driven eagerly, but also smooth and easy-going when there are passengers aboard. You can also adjust the steering weight, level of regenerative braking, as well as choose whether the car creeps, allowing you to customise the driving experience to you own preference. Premium approach Where others might take a brashly-loud approach to getting heard, the Polestar approach is instead of a quieter (but no less forward-looking) disposition. Amidst an increasingly crowded segment, Polestar is staking its Swedish claim against the likes of American/Chinese competition. And the brand looks to deliver performance and premium quality in equal measure - yet always executed with a sleekness that buyers come to expect from a Swedish brand. The Polestar 2 Core Edition serves as an entry into the Polestar brand, and the less-is-more approach is clear - the streamlined feature set gives buyers a more value-for-money option, while still retaining essential qualities that mark it out as a distinctive and recognisable Polestar product. The Polestar 2 Core Edition is currently offered at a promotional price of $186,000 inclusive of COE (price correct at time of publication, subject to terms and conditions). You can click here to find out more and book a test drive.

  5. The approach of the year-end holidays often also means the annual pilgrimage Singaporeans take to Japan to soothe their souls after a long year will soon kick into high season. (Just open any of your social media applications - Instagram, Facebook or TikTok - and you'll see.) For the many amongst us who can spare neither the financial expense nor the time, however, there's no reason to fret. Allow the mind some space to wander, and one will find there are many places on our sunny island that could momentarily fool one into thinking they had been transported to Japan. Don't believe us? Instead of hopping onto a plane, hop into your car for a road trip around the island on a coming weekend, and you may just find yourself suddenly in the land of zen and good food. To stay even more on-theme, you'll probably want to take something along like a purebred Japanese electric vehicle to round the itinerary off most cohesively - which brings us to… Japanese EV, proudly Made in Japan Our Japanese chariot of choice for a Japan-themed day out is none other than the made-in-Japan Nissan Ariya. As Nissan's first electric vehicle since the Leaf, the Ariya carries on all the trusted expertise in electrification built up by its older sibling, but takes a step upwards in terms of luxury, refinement and practicality. The latter quality comes courtesy of its bespoke electric platform, which gives it wondrous spaciousness courtesy of uninterrupted flat rear and front floors. The Nissan Ariya was our all-electric steed for this all-Japanese excursion! It's arguably more Japanese than its electric forebear too; just look at the traditional kumiko patterns that dot bits of interior including its doors and underneath the dashboard. Meanwhile, the woodgrain texture of its dashboard reminds us of fusuma and shoji often used in traditional Japanese architecture. Best of all, it's not just pure material comfort that the Ariya offers, but genuine day to day usability too. Its electric drivetrain makes it effortless on the go, and its 66kWh battery gives it excellent range of up to 500km - more than enough even for the extensive 80km route we've planned for this road trip itinerary, as we set off from the Nissan showroom! 1. Ridout Tea Garden (+15km) Its name today may not suggest it, but on the site of the current Ridout Tea Garden actually stood the island's first Japanese-themed community garden in 1970. Named "Queenstown Japanese Garden", it was built to "provide more recreational facilities for flat dwellers in Queenstown", and served as a crucial jewel of the estate by offering residents not just a haven in which to relax but also to shop. An unfortunate blaze consumed the original Garden in the late 1970s, but it was thankfully rebuilt into the 1.38-hectare site that we know it as today - replete with its iconic pond and large McDonald's outlet (one of the longest-standing in Singapore!). Interestingly, it appeared that this outlet would close its doors a few years back after more than three decades in operation - but the fast food chain ultimately managed to win the tender, and has since expanded its footprint here. Ridout Tea Garden is perhaps best known for the McDonalds there, offering alfresco dining with a view Business as usual, then - and we're all the better for it, since you can still come here for a hearty breakfast before transporting themselves momentarily out of Singapore as they traverse the little bridge over the pond (and say hello to the terrapins sunbathing out there while they're at it). Where to park: Ridout Tea Garden Carpark Ease of parking: 3.5/5. While parking here is generally quite easy (lots are both wide and plentiful), newer drivers might want to take note that traffic moves quite regularly and quickly out of the sole entrance/exit point. We’d advise a bit more caution just for this group. 2. Keyaki Japanese Restaurant (+14km) Nestled right in the heart of the city and among the skyscrapers all around is a serene little oasis that routinely puts diners at Pan Pacific Hotel's upmarket Japanese restaurant at ease. Right outside Keyaki restaurant lies a Japanese wonderland whose mixture of modern and traditional Japanese architecture - if angled correctly - could genuinely trick an unknowing friend into thinking that you had taken a flight to the land of the rising sun. Said to be inspired specifically by Kyoto, there are charming details to take in everywhere. The sounds of a flowing stream will greet you before you see the stones that invite you to cross it; traditional toro are hidden towards the back of the garden; and a koi pond takes centrestage. A special highlight here too, is the Keyaki Garden Pavillion - with its own Shoji-inspired screens which can be booked out for private luncheons or celebrations. Located at Pan Pacific Hotel, Keyaki is a up-market Japanese restaurant who's architecture and surrounding appointments want to teleport you right to Kyoto Come slightly before the restaurant's official opening hours (as we did) and you might just have the space all to yourself - for a nice photo and video shoot, or indeed, just for a break away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Where to park: Marina Square Carpark Ease of parking: 4/5. Parking here shouldn’t be an issue, given the size of Marina Square’s carpark, but one issue that may certainly face visitors is navigating on foot from the carpark to Pan Pacific Hotel. Remember - it’s not any of the other hotels around here - but Pan Pacific! 3. Japanese Garden (in Jurong Lake Gardens) (+21.6km) After nearly half a decade of extensive rebuilding works, the Japanese Garden (alongside the Chinese Garden) has finally started to welcome visitors since September this year. Step into the latter, and the sight of a red bridge that wouldn't look out of place in Fukuoka's Ohori Park or Osaka's Tennoji Park will already greet you. Elsewhere, new facilities including a Guesthouse and a Guest Pavillion next to a pond further accentuate the feeling that is not in the far West of Singapore, but perhaps the outskirts of Tokyo. Head over to the recently-reopened Japanese Garden and you can see the largest collection of water lilies in Singapore But the Japanese Garden is particularly noteworthy for our nature-heads. Within it, one will also find the Sunken Garden, whose walls are lined all the way up high with epiphytes, as well as the Water Lily Garden, which boasts the largest collection of water lilies in Singapore. While the rest of the locations on this list are arguably more bite-sized breakaways, this one's good for a proper afternoon out - just make sure to check the weather before heading out! Where to park: Jurong Lake South Carpark Ease of parking: 4/5. This carpark feels relatively new - in line with the rest of the larger garden - with wide and clean parking lots. We’re docking points just for the fact that it’s not sheltered - but hey, this is a park after all, isn’t it? 4. &JOY Food Street, Jurong Point (+3km) Once you're done working up an appetite from that stroll (or cycle), food awaits again. And instead of just a standalone Japanese restaurant, why not consider an entire Japanese culinary world - in the form of &JOY Food Street at Jurong Point? Whether it's ramen, yakitori, a Japanese hamburger steak joint - or even Mister Donut - you're bound to find something that tantalises your palette at the Basement 2 Japanese Food Street here. (It happened to start raining when we arrived, so we settled ourselves with some udon instead.) &JOY Food Street offers a wide range of Japanese delicacies! Before you dismiss this as just another Japanese joint filtered through a Singaporean lens, here's a final fun fact: &JOY Food Street is owned by RE&S, which was actually founded by Osaka native, Hiroshi Tatara, in 1988. Where to park: Jurong Point Carpark. Ease of parking: 3/5. For such a big mall, Jurong Point’s carpark is fittingly large too, meaning that unless you’re super picky about good spots closer to the entrances, straining for a lot is unlikely to ever be a problem. The only issue, however, is that the ramps leading down and out of the mall can be quite tight in instances where there are oncoming cars. 5. Don Don Donki, Jurong Point Don Don Donki outlets are now dime a dozen in Singapore, so the mention of one may not be particularly interesting at this point. Yet the one at Jurong Point continues to maintain its own lustre with a unique touch you won't find anywhere else on the island: With a specific arcade theme. Crane your neck upwards and you'll notice that the cardboard signs are printed in an eight-bit style. Meanwhile, the plethora of neon signs hanging from the ceiling (including those of actual controllers) are a nice homage to the bright glow of a bustling arcade in downtown Osaka or Fukuoka. It's an extra charming touch that should make the already ever-enjoyable experience of shopping for Japanese snacks even more pleasant. 6. Japanese Cemetery Park (+25km) Quietly tucked inside of a private housing estate off of Yio Chu Kang Road, the Japanese Cemetery Park is once again proof that Japan-reminiscent spaces often blend seamlessly into unspectacular and everyday Singaporean environments. Said to be the largest and best-preserved Japanese cemetery in Southeast Asia, this site measures 30,000 square metres, and contains an estimated 910 tombstones. Nearly two centuries old, it stopped accepting burials in the 1970s, and has since been gazetted as a memorial park. Japanese Cemetery Park is the largest and best-preserved Japanese cemetery in Southeast Asia Indelible heritage aside, giving the site its unmistakable Japan-likeness is a mido - or prayer hall - as well as a grand, uninterrupted corridor marked by rounded arches with trumpet flowers. These weren't in full bloom on the day of our visit - but come round when they are, and their vibrant pink can make one feel as if they've been teleported to a park during the cherry blossom season. Where to park: Japanese Cemetery Park (drive all the way in and you’ll notice some unsheltered and unmarked lots towards the end). Ease of parking: 5/5. Given its niche status, it’s unlikely this place ever gets crowded - even on weekends. Parking is free here too. - Matt
  6. sgCarMart has gone live once again, and this time, we actually got to launch a car exclusively on our Facebook Live page. The car in question of course, is the much-anticipated all new Renault Captur! With more than 1.2 million units sold globally since the first generation was launched in 2013, this all new second generation Captur builds upon its best-in-class predecessor, with plenty of power and sweet personalisation options to boot, making it perfect for those looking for a punchy SUV with a little French flair. This car wasn't the only thing new at the livestream, for Julian was also joined by a new Guest Host, Chiou Huey from King Kong Media! Goodies and more! There may have been plenty that's new at this live event, but those that have joined us at our previous Facebook Live shows before will be glad to know that the awesome freebies which have become a mainstay have been retained. This time, all the viewers had to do to join in the lucky draw was to comment 'CAPTURNOW' and like and share the livestream. Up to four lucky winners were chosen to win an exclusive Renault goodie bag, containing items including a classy little notebook and a modern water bottle, worth up to $128! Two lucky viewers even got to experience a weekend driveaway in the all new Renault Captur! Missed the opportunity to grab the freebies? Stay tuned to SGCM news section for the next live event. Regular MCF members can also look out for future threads about upcoming sgCarMart and MyCarForum events on the Lite & EZ section. A new and powerful contender But back on to the main attraction. With up to 430 live viewers already eagerly clamoring in the comment section to see the new car, both hosts delayed no further with the unveiling. Off with the covers! The all new Captur impresses with its muscular architecture, bold SUV stance, as well as distinctive C-shaped LED lighting signature that allows you to arrive with a presence. Julian also pointed out the new air deflectors, which channels air across the side of the car to keep turbulence to a minimum, and its active air shutters housed within the front grille, which optimises engine performance by regulating the temperature with the right airflow. This means that you get a car that slices right through the air, keeping your fuel costs to a minimum. The all new Renault Captur will also ensure you are always first off at the traffic lights, thanks to its power-packed 1.3-litre turbocharged engine that puts out an impressive class-leading 128bhp and 240Nm of high torque. But what if you're on the prowl for something a little showier and colourful? Well, thanks to the Captur's nine different exterior colour options, you're sure to be able to get your car in any hue you desire, be it a bold and expressive red, or a bright and cheeky blue. And of course, if you're in the market looking for an SUV, you'll also be looking for space and practicality. And here, the Captur once again delivers, not only with its plentiful passenger space at the rear, but also with its provision of USB ports and air-conditioning vents. But it's much more than just space that is on offer here. The driver-centric cockpit of the Renault Captur features a largest-in-class 9.3-inch tablet-style touchscreen and a 10.25-inch instrumental panel. The cabin is also highly customisable, with up to eight different ambient lighting colours allowing you to set the car up according to any mood. And that's also complimented with three different driving modes on offer, so you can tailor your drive exactly as you like it as well! Also new in the cabin of the Renault Captur is the E-shifter. A common gear knob design found in premium-makes, the E-shifter is mounted on a 'floating console', meaning you get additional storage space at the bottom of the console Julian also demonstrated to Chiou Huey just how easy it is to utilise the sliding rear bench in the boot. With up to 160mm of adjustability on offer, the all new Renault Captur can further extend its already spacious boot up to a class-leading 536 litres to swallow bulky items. Handy for all those shopping trips! But there's more! After the presentation of the new car, our viewers also got an opportunity to ask questions about the all new Renault Captur and get another close-up look at any features they might be curious about! But even if you missed the livestream, do not fret. The same goodie bags are available exclusively for all those who head down to test drive the new Renault Captur at the Renault Showroom! This new model is being offered at special early bird launch prices. With only a 30% downpayment required to secure your own Captur, you'd be silly not to head down to 28 Leng Kee road now for a test drive!
  7. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/706112/toyota-gr-yaris-rz-sebastien-ogier-kalle-rovanpera-edition/ Almost a year to the day, Toyota announced two GR Yaris "concepts" at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon. They were the GR Yaris RZ Kalle Rovanpera and Sebastien Ogier Editions, wearing special appearance packages and tuned with bespoke drive modes befitting the WRC drivers for which they're named. The concepts came with a promise that, eventually, folks could buy one. That time has finally come. In the year that's passed since the debut, the GR Yaris received a big facelift. So the new models look a bit different. The core elements are the same though; Ogier's car is finished in a dark shade called Matte Stealth Gray, which helps accentuate the blue brake calipers behind those sharp 18-inch BBS wheels. A special rally spoiler made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic adorns the hatch, and you'll find a few decals honoring Ogier's WRC success and his home country of France. Rovanpera's car is brighter, wearing a version of his three-tone racing livery with special logos and WRC accolades. The rear wing is identical to that on the GRMN Yaris. Moving inside, both cars have special badging and contrast stitching unique to each edition. You'll also find exclusive full TFT gauge displays that show specific drive modes for each car. But the modes are far different than the gravel and track settings you'd find on a normal GR Yaris. The Ogier Edition gains Morzio Mode, which Toyota describes as "restraint (direct connection) maximally applied to the front and rear wheels during acceleration and relaxed only as necessary during braking." You also get SEB Mode, named for Ogier and tuned to send more power to the rear wheels versus the As for the colorful Rovanpera Edition, it gains a colorfully named Donut Mode which ensures "slide control during drifting." That sounds like a drift mode to us. There's also the KALLE Mode, which incorporates a different rear differential for "aggressively swinging out the vehicle's rear when entering a curve and pulling forward the vehicle's front using the accelerator." That also sounds like a drift mode to us, but one with a bit more emphasis on getting very sideways. Obviously, these special editions won't head to America, as the GR Yaris isn't sold here. Toyota will build just 200 total – 100 each – and you'll have to participate in a lottery starting in the spring for the chance to buy one. So the odds of seeing them anywhere will be very slim. Should you be chosen, you'll get the car and some neat VIP perks like meeting the drivers. There's no mention of price, though we suspect these cars will be a bit more expensive than your average GR Yaris.
  8. Hi, Let me start a new thread. Searched but no such thread yet. Test drove this weekend, it is good price for specification offered. Although engine is 1.5, I find the drive is quite spirited, should be due to EDC that is able to bring the car up to speed with its fast shift, faster than the 1.6 bluehdi C4 can do with its EAT6. The car has all the high specification an entry luxury car offers. I am open to critical opinion such as dci failure, french car with poor quality ..etc and hope owner to offers their experience such as fuel consumption able to meet the paper specification, drive and any electronic failure. Thank you.
  9. People as old as me would have remember the iconic Renault 5 in the 70s to mid 90s. I am not going to comment on its reliability not performance, since I have no chance to be in one, but good news for the fans of 5. Thus cutie beast is making a come back, abeit as an EV. Patent images published by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) show the subcompact model in its full retro-modern glory, which stays true to the concept car unveiled in January 2021. Compared to the concept, the production-intent revival of the R5 has lost the rear light bar on the tailgate to make way for a black trim piece. It has bigger side mirrors and traditional handles for the front doors instead of the sleeker ones on the concept that remained flush with the door panel. Mounted on the C-pillar, the handle for the rear doors is bigger now. The black roof and red accents indicate we’re looking at a high-end version of the small EV. It is worth noting the third-generation Renault 5 will be electric-only but won’t ride on a dedicated EV platform. The new hatch that’ll dust off a legendary moniker last used in 1996 will adapt the underpinnings of the Clio by sourcing as much as 70 percent of the hardware to slash production costs by nearly a third compared to the Zoe. The platform has been dubbed AmpR Small (formerly CMF-B EV). Unusual for a B-segment car, it's going to have a multi-link rear suspension, which should translate into sharper handling.
  10. At a quick glance, I thought that was a Peugeot... Another SUV-nised product in the automotive scene. The fifth generation Renault Scenic has been revealed as an all-electric people mover bearing the E-Tech badge and sitting on the same CMF-EV platform as the Renault Megane E-Tech and Nissan Ariya European compact EVs. Set to be built at Renault’s Douai ElectricCity Factory, the all-new Scenic E-Tech will reach dealerships on the Old Continent at the beginning of next year with a choice of two zero-emissions powertrains, both powered by LG nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) batteries. The Standard range version comes with a front-mounted electric motor that makes 125 kilowatts (170 horsepower) and 280 Newton-meters of torque and draws juice from a 60-kilowatt-hour battery pack that can offer over 420 kilometers of driving range (in the WLTP cycle). DC fast charging can be done at up to 130 kW, the 0 to 100 kilometerper hour sprint is achieved in 9.3 seconds, and the top speed is 150 kilometers per hour for this trim. The High range Scenic E-Tech comes with a more potent motor that makes 160 kW (220 hp) and 300 NM of torque, all while receiving electrons from a bigger, 87 kWh pack that enables an estimated range of over 620 km on the WLTP cycle. DC fast charging is possible at up to 150 kW in this case, the sprint to 100 kmph takes 8.4 seconds, while the top speed is 170 kph. With this being said, both variants can be charged on AC power at up to 22 kW.
  11. Will the folks at Wearnes reading this....please bring in the 1.5 diesel version, please?
  12. Source: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a43785443/vw-golf-r-333-special-edition-will-get-a-rad-akrapovic-exhaust/ Slated to make its official debut on May 31, the new VW Golf R 333 brings unique gold paint and some performance adjustments to the all-wheel drive hot hatch. The short teaser doesn't feature a ton of specifics, but it does give us a good look at some of the adjustments VW made. The gold paint is the most obvious addition, looking far more sophisticated than the select hues on offer for Golf R buyers. A bespoke graphics package also runs along the bottom of the doors, matching the black mirror caps on either flank. We can also see a set of the brand's 19-inch Estoril wheels, behind which sit a set of blue brake calipers. VW has also fitted the Golf R 333 Limited Edition models with an Akrapovič exhaust system, complete with four tips in a bright finish. That'll surely make it sound great. While that's about all that VW has confirmed so far, there are further hints as to what we can expect in its name. Last year, VW released a few different takes on a Golf R 20 Years special edition model for its various global markets. In Europe, that anniversary model came equipped with a variant of the 2.0-liter turbo-four making 328 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. If you measure that output in German Pferdestärke, that figure jumps to a round 333 PS. It is then not unlikely to assume a similarly trimmed engine will find its way to the Golf R 333. That will also make the Golf R 333 tied for the title of most powerful Golf model yet.

  14. Source: https://www.asiaone.com/lifestyle/extreme-makeover-hawker-edition-peoples-park-food-centre-reopens-new-look-delight-diners? Those who've previously visited People's Park Food Centre before probably didn't have very good memories of it. While it's known to house several popular stalls like Zhen Zhu Fang Roasted Delights and Ri Ri Hong Ma La Xiang Guo, the hawker centre drew plenty of flak for its poor hygiene standards. But things have changed. The space has finally completed a much-needed revamp after being closed from April 1 to June 30 for renovation works. And the place looks almost unrecognisable now. In a Facebook post dated July 1, netizen Ng Chun Kiat shares pictures of the hawker centre's new look. One of the biggest differences is the improved lighting with the once dimly-lit space now looking brighter and even larger in size. Besides lighting, the new wall and floor tiles also help brighten up the place, considering that they are now a lighter shade than before. In a place with so much cooking going on, proper ventilation is important too. With new fans in place, the place is much airier and Chun Kiat even added that it felt "much cooler now". He did note that the area around the "Mala Xiang Guo section" of the food centre is still smoky as there is plenty of stir-frying going on. However, the other sections of the hawker centre have "almost no smoke". Previously, pests and birds were also a huge problem and this has been solved by the giant bird netting that was erected over the hawker centre's sky wells. "Overall, a welcome upgrade and revamp. About 80 per cent of the stalls have resumed operations today. Special thanks to National Environment Agency (NEA) for the timely revamp!" said Chun Kiat. Apart from the bird nets, wires were also placed on exhaust pipes and beams to deter mice and pigeons from resting there, reported Lianhe Zaobao. In the comments of the Facebook post, netizens celebrated the hawker centre's new look and many were especially pleased with how bright and clean the space looks. Some also pointed out that patrons and vendors alike should stay diligent to maintain the cleanliness of the hawker centre. Patrons and hawkers who were interviewed by Lianhe Zaobao also sang praises about the renovations. "After the renovation of the hawker centre, the biggest change is that it became more hygienic, clean and bright. If you didn't tell me, I wouldn't know that the open-air area has anti-bird nets and today, I didn't see any birds there," a 50-year-old diner surnamed Chen told the Chinese daily. A stall owner surnamed Liu, 48, also said she hasn't seen any birds or pests yet. "The environment has improved, diners can eat comfortably and at ease, and we [hawkers] can work better," she remarked. A reputation for being dirty When it was announced that People's Park Food Centre was going to undergo renovations, many people heaved sighs of relief. Over the years, several hawkers and customers expressed concern about the level of hygiene at the popular hawker centre. Some diners even had the unpleasant experience of dealing with unwelcome guests previously, from rats scurrying on the floor to crows and pigeons pecking away at plates of leftover food.
  15. Have to admit that this Asskana Arkana is damn sexy. Truly a French affair. Groupe Renault confirms its desire to break the rules and become the first general vehicle maker to offer an international Coupé SUV. The production version of Arkana is an all-new C-segment (4.54 m) model with an innovative, distinctive design. Built at the Moscow plant and on sale from this summer on the Russian market, it will contribute to the worldwide expansion of Groupe Renault as part of its strategic Drive the Future plan. Combining the elegance of a saloon, the sportiness of a coupé and the robustness of an SUV, the Arkana show-car impressed everyone when it was unveiled at the 2018 Moscow Motor Show. The external design of the production version of the Arkana Coupé SUV differs only slightly from the show-car. It retains the sloping roof line, very high waistline and wide, expressive bumper. The chrome components on the grill and around the windows and C-Shape LED headlights embody the DNA of Renault design, to highlight its elegant appearance. When it goes on the market in summer 2019, the All-New Renault Arkana Coupé SUV will be offered in a range of 7 bodywork colours and 3 finish levels. It will be fitted with 17-inch tyres. A modern, comfortable interior Inside, the Renault Arkana Coupé SUV is all about space, quality, modernity and comfort, due, amongst other features, to materials that are pleasant to the touch, a new multimedia system and the MULTI-SENSE settings. The central console is equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen interface for the Renault EASY LINK multimedia system, which supports Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Yandex Auto. The driver can personalise many of the components with practical, easy-to-use apps. Renault Arkana also has the benefit of MULTI-SENSE technology, which gives the driver a choice of three driving modes (Eco, Sport, My sense) and 8 ambience colours. This Coupé SUV is fitted with ideal equipment for winter driving - the steering wheel and driver and front passenger's seats are heated. The boot has a dual lighting system and the folding rear seats mean that luggage space can easily be increased from 508 litres to up to 1333 liters. The Renault engineers have also minimised vibrations and optimised the passenger compartment soundproofing on this new Coupé SUV. And thanks to a new Bose audio system, the passengers in the Renault Arkana are bathed in a high-quality sound approaching that of a live performance. 4-wheel drive for all road conditions The versatility and sturdiness of the Renault Arkana Coupé SUV on the road are the fruits of the joint efforts of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance, and of the Alliance's collaboration with Daimler. It is fitted with a new TCe 150 petrol engine that makes its first appearance on the Russian market. This turbocharged engine delivers 150hp and 250Nm of torque, to combine performance and driving pleasure with market-leading efficiency (7 l/100 km in combined cycle). This engine is coupled with an X-Tronic gearbox, to provide flexibility and responsive acceleration, and with the smart All Mode 4x4-i 4-wheel drive system developed by the Alliance. This system ensures permanent control of the vehicle's road holding to guarantee optimum traction, whatever the conditions. This Coupé SUV boasts a reinforced chassis and a ground clearance of 208 mm, one of the highest in the category. Combined with angles of attack and departure of 18° and 25° respectively, it gives the All-New Renault Arkana true off-road and crossover capabilities. Finally, Renault Arkana has been put through a range of sturdiness and durability tests, including 300,000 km of trials in extreme driving conditions. This rigour ensures optimum comfort, in town or on winding roads, whatever the weather conditions.
  16. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/569280/2022-volvo-s60-black-edition/ Volvo is the latest automaker to go dark, and by that, we mean offering a special edition model festooned with all kinds of black trim. The Swedish brand doesn't pull any punches, either, choosing to call its newly darkened sedan the S60 Black Edition. Simple name, simple upgrades; hard to find fault with that. As the name suggests, the S60 Black Edition wears plenty of black trim on the outside, starting with the grille surround and Volvo badging in the middle. Moving to the side you'll find black window trim and side mirrors, but the major update comes with the wheels. The Black Edition gets an exclusive set of 19-inchers with a gloss black finish, and there's more black trim at the back with the Volvo lettering on the decklid. Even the exhaust tips are blacked out for this special model. Volvo doesn't mention any special updates for the interior, but the S60 Black Edition is offered in just two exterior colors. Crystal While Metallic offers a sharp contrast with the black trim, or for those who truly want the darkest Volvo of all time, Onyx Black Metallic creates a monochrome look. The Black Edition is purely an appearance package, so all the S60 mechanicals under the skin remain the same – a boosted 2.0-liter four-cylinder working with some measure of electric power that offers up to 415 horsepower (309 kilowatts) in range-topping PHEV trim. "The design of the S60 Black Edition evokes a passionate response across the company," said Eric Beak, Volvo USA head of design. "We’re very proud that the Black Edition has been designed here in the US and will be built by our US team in South Carolina."
  17. The Espace has lost it way. Sorry but this is the ugliest Espace in its 30 year history... nothing but a bloated Kadjar / Koleos. Now entering its sixth generation, it's basically abandoning all minivan cues. Essentially, it's a long-wheelbase version of the Austral compact crossover with some minor changes to the design. While cars tend to grow in size and add weight, the new Espace bucks the trend since it's 140 mm shorter and 215 kg lighter than the minivan it replaces. It also rides 32 mm lower and has a more spacious third row, but you can have it with only five seats as well. This midsize SUV come with a turbocharged 1.3-liter gasoline engine as a full hybrid with a pair of electric motors. The three-cylinder unit is good for 131 hp and 205 Nm of torque while the main electric motor is rated at 68 hp and 205 Nm. The second e-motor works as the starter generator with 25 hp and 50 Nm. Combined, Renault says the driver has access to 199 hp.
  18. TL;DR – A driver residing along Sixth Avenue took to social media to complain about a Renault Kadjar obstructing the entrance to the house. Netizens wasted no time sending in their two cents worth, with a vast majority ridiculing the one who made the complaint. Cons of living in a landed property? If you have the privilege of living on a landed property, perhaps you might have encountered situations like the events of this story. Here are some images extracted from the post. At this angle, it seems like quite a tight fit. But at this angle, it looks like more than ample space for a car to fit in, no? And how much patience does this person have? To wait outside for 30-minutes? If it were me, I would have honked that horn like a baker kneading dough. Was it really because of the world cup? This incident happened on 10 December 2022 at 1.25am. If you’ve followed the Qatar World Cup as diligently as I have, you’ll know that Croatia played against Brazil on 9 December 2022 at 11pm. The match ended in a 1-1 draw, and Brazil got knocked out of the quarterfinals by penalties. The hypothesis checks out! Online Chatter Netizens were unsympathetic to the complaints of the ‘victim’ though. I don't know about you, but like i mentioned above, I would have honked and not sat there patiently waiting while my petrol runs out. But, then again, I don't stay at Sixth Avenue. Maybe things are different there. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  19. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/571275/lexus-ct200h-production-end-japan-cherished-touring-edition/ We would forgive you for forgetting about the Lexus CT because there's not much memorable about it, but the hybrid hatchback is finally going out of production in Japan in October 2022. To mark the retirement, Lexus is building a final special edition that it calls the Cherished Touring. The Lexus CT200h Cherished Touring edition is available in two exclusive color schemes. There is a Sonic Titanium roof and a Graphite Black body or a Sonic Titanium roof and Sonic Quartz white body. Regardless of the shade, the spindle grille, fog light surrounds, and rear bumper trim have a shiny, silver finish. The other extra amenities include electrically retracting, heated door mirrors and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Inside, the Cherished Touring edition has two-tone upholstery that makes the lower portion of the seats and door panels black and the upper parts dark red. There's matching red stitching on the door trim, instrument panel, knee pads, and steering wheel. The model comes standard with heating for the steering wheel and seats. Like every example of the CT200h, power comes from a 1.8-liter four-cylinder that makes 98 horsepower (73 kilowatts) and 105 pound-feet (142 Newton-meters) of torque by itself. The electric motor contributes 80.5 hp (60 kW) and 153 lb-ft (207 Nm). Lexus' Japanese site for the CT200h doesn't list the total system output, but the specs suggest it's the same 134 hp (100 kW) from other markets The CT200h Cherished Touring edition retails for 4,223,000 yen after taxes in Japan ($36,580 at current exchange rates). This is how a 2011 Lexus CT200h looks like.
  20. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2022-10-01/david-taylor-global-financial-crisis-2/101492384 The world is flirting with another global financial crisis, and the next few weeks are key It's hard to overstate the magnitude of the financial trouble Britain and, because of its financial heft, the world found itself in this week. We came within inches of "global financial crisis mark 2". That's not hyperbole. Towards the end of 2008, it was clear many Wall Street investment banks were on the brink of collapse. They were sitting on tens of billions of dollars' worth of rubbish assets – mortgage-backed securities attached to properties plummeting in value. A credit crunch was sparked when the US government allowed Lehman Brothers to collapse. It was sitting on a lot of these worthless assets. Suddenly, it was unclear who could afford to repay loans and who couldn't. We've just flirted with a scenario of similar magnitude. The problem now is, well, the flirtation is not over. Comedy of errors Liz Truss – Boris Johnson's replacement as British prime minister – inherited an economy at risk of entering a protracted and deep recession. Truss delivered a "mini-budget" last week which offered up lots more government spending and the biggest package of tax cuts in 50 years to help stimulate the economy. Great, right? Well, not so much. Financial markets asked an obvious question in response: "how are you going to pay for this?", when the UK's budget deficit (or net borrowing) is already in the hundreds of billions of pounds. The BBC reported conservative MPs walking the corridors "in shock" after the mini-budget was handed down. The ultimate response from the money markets was a vote of no confidence in the fiscal package. The bond market "sold off". Bond prices in the fixed income market plummeted. As bond prices fall, yields rise. It's really not necessary to understand the bond market machinations here, but it is important to understand the next point. That is, for Britain's pension scheme to work, or continue as a going concern, interest rates can't rise too high too quickly — which is what happened. The funds found themselves unable to pay pensions because they were losing too much money on their investments. To stop this, the Bank of England came in to buy up bonds on an enormous scale to increase the price of bonds and lower the interest rates on those bonds. "To achieve this, the Bank will carry out temporary purchases of long-dated UK government bonds from September 28. The purpose of these purchases will be to restore orderly market conditions," the Bank of England said. "The purchases will be carried out on whatever scale is necessary to effect this outcome. The operation will be fully indemnified by HM Treasury." But here's the killer line. "Were dysfunction in this market to continue or worsen, there would be a material risk to UK financial stability." What the Bank of England was suggesting, according to former London City trader Henry Jennings, is that when the bond market moved violently against these pension funds, they were at risk of being placed into margin calls. That is, many funds had borrowed money to make more money. They were heavily in debt to enhance their returns. They were about to be asked to "pay up". If they were asked to pay up, they would have been forced into liquidating their assets, which he says would have led to a financial markets "death spiral". The sheer weight of global assets being sold off would have, in Jennings' opinion, led to a global "confidence crisis". Problem not going away The Bank of England bailout of Britain's pension schemes is limited. "These [bond] purchases will be strictly time limited," the BofE said. "They are intended to tackle a specific problem in the long-dated government bond market. Auctions will take place from today until 14 October." So, what happens when they stop buying gilts, or British bonds? The chief economist of the National Australia Bank says the forces that led to Britain's financial system edging to towards the brink remain firmly in place. "Markets are getting a bit worried," Alan Oster says. He says interest rates in Britain will keep climbing, and may do so quite aggressively in the coming months. "[Markets] are talking – well, it's frightening, they're starting off from a cash rate of 2-ish per cent and they're talking about a 1.25 per cent or 1.5 per cent interest rate increase [at the next Bank of England meeting]". "It's extraordinary and of course the pound is being absolutely killed." In other words, the problem facing the pension fund scheme is set to return. It's heavy stuff So, let's just do a quick stop-and-check at this point, because it's heavy stuff. The UK is still at risk from a financial crisis because a major investment scheme remains vulnerable to a bond market that's still at risk of plummeting due to the UK's economic woes (in part created by a dire mini-budget). This is all being reflected in a recent collapse of the pound. A financial crisis in the UK would, analysts say, lead to a global economic rout. Is Australia immune? The short answer is no. The Australian dollar is hovering around two-year lows against the greenback, and the stock market is down 15 per cent from peak to trough. We're inching towards a share "bear market". This has obvious implication for those in and approaching retirement. A destabilisation of the global financial system, more broadly though, would produce the same shock waves as 2008 and 2009. It leads to higher unemployment and a recession. The problem this time around is that the Australian government, and indeed the Reserve Bank, are in no position to engage in extraordinary economic stimulus measures. But … so far so good However, it seems the majority of Australians, right now, have the financial capacity to continue on in a relatively normal fashion. Australian retail turnover rose 0.6 per cent in August, according to Retail Trade figures released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics earlier this week. The August increase was the eighth consecutive rise and follows a 1.3 per cent rise in July and a 0.2 per cent rise in June. "This month's rise was driven by the combined increase in food related industries, with cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services up 1.3 per cent and food retailing up 1.1 per cent," Ben Dorber, head of retail statistics at the ABS, said. The dark cost-of-living clouds hanging over millions of Australians is "being balanced by people saying, 'well, I'm not going to lose my job' ", NAB chief economist Alan Oster says. "The economy is doing really well." But, and that's a big but, he says ominously, the "next four weeks will be interesting". That's a reference to the fact that the bulk of already-announced Reserve Bank interest rates hikes will hit bank accounts over the next couple of months. It's unclear to most observers how, exactly, this would damage the Australian economy. Work is already underway though to put policy makers in a better position to make the right calls when it come to pulling the levers. The ABS, for example, is now delivering monthly inflation or cost of living data. The first monthly Consumer Price Index (CPI) indicator rose 7.0 per cent in the year to July and 6.8 per cent to August. The largest contributors, in the 12 months to August, were new dwelling construction, up 20.7 per cent, and automotive fuel, up 15.0 per cent. Now the Reserve Bank is in a better, or timelier, position to see how its policy tightening is influencing prices in the economy. This, in practice, is meant to avoid hiking interest rates too far. The RBA meets on Tuesday. At the moment it's a coin toss as to whether the bank raises its cash rate target by 0.25 or 0.5 percentage points. How serious is all this? Naturally, with any major financial event, the question is: do I need to worry about this? The answer is that you need to keep watching this story unfold. AMP's chief economist, Shane Oliver, suggests while the Bank of England's short-term effort to bring back the UK financial system from the brink has worked, the country's financial system is set to go right back there again soon. "The Bank of England's intervention to calm the gilt market (which was threatening financial problems for UK pension funds) by buying bonds (ie restarting QE) has helped calm things – directly in the UK and indirectly elsewhere by showing that authorities will still intervene in a crisis," Dr Oliver said. "Unfortunately, the return to QE [bond buying] may just add to inflationary pressures if it has to be sustained for long, which may necessitate an even higher interest rate hike when the BoE next meets in early November with many talking about a 1.25 per cent hike, which leaves the BoE in the silly position of easing and tightening at the same time." So, the options are that the Bank of England keeps coming to the rescue of the UK financial system with the risk of exacerbating inflation which will lead to much higher interest rates, or allow the market to take over, and risk a full-blown financial crisis when the bond market collapses again. Australia seems to be in a reasonable position now to manage a financial shock, but it's unclear whether that will still be the case in just a few weeks' time. Huge risks remain. Printing trillions of dollars of money, globally, during the pandemic to support the global economy was always fraught with risk. As it stands we are unable to remove that economic support without the whole system collapsing, but we need to remove it before we create even bigger economic problems. It's an extremely uncomfortable position to be in.

  23. This motorcyclist shows us why it’s important to always keep your eyes on the road! In this video, a seemingly distracted motorcyclist follows closely behind a white Renault Fluence as the pair navigates through roads filled with busy roadworks. Throughout the entire video, the motorcyclist could be seen tilting his head up and down multiple times. Upon approaching an underground tunnel entrance, the white PHV slows down to join the long queue of vehicles waiting to enter. However, the distracted rider fails to anticipate this sudden change and ends up rear-ending the Renault. The impact force forces the motorcycle to flip forward, throwing the rider down onto the road face-first. With his feet against the car, the rider manages to lift his motorcycle off of himself. He walks to the side of the road and removes his helmet, revealing broken pieces inside. Concerned, the driver of the white Renault and the cam car alight from their cars to check on the rider’s condition. Netizens’ reactions While we may never know for sure if the rider was looking at his phone, the number of times he kept looking down was suspicious. He can represent SG at the next Olympic games. #motorcyclistforparis2024 Indeed! Kudos to both drivers for immediately checking on the motorcyclist! Hope he is alright! ======== Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
