Looks like Renault is going to build an even faster Megane R.S.
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Based on Renault's history, we can probably guess that there will be more hardcore versions of the Megane R.S. even after the Trophy variant. And spotted on the Nuburgring recently by Carscoops, it does really seemed like Renault is working on a new flagship for its hot hatch. Likely to be called the Trophy-R like the previous generation Megane, the new one comes with a a vented bonnet with a big bump in the middle that might mean something. Meanwhile, the red accent on its front bumper is very similar to the old Trophy-R and the car spied on the Green Hell has its LED running lights deleted, presumably to cater for some sort of cooling for the brakes or engine. From the side, we can see new wheels plus larger brakes and a large white tape that probably camouflages its decals. As for the interior, the spy photographers manage to reveal a red steel bar where the rear seats should be, reaffirming the possibility of the prototype being the Megane RS Trophy-R. Being the most track-focused variant, the car will likely be the lightest but unknown whether the car will get more power or any other handling upgrades. -
In the market for a hot hatch? You might want to watch this video review by Autocar where they compare the Hyundai i30 N goes up against the Renault Megane R.S. 280. Unfortunately, the comparison isn't very fair as the i30 N they used in video is the standard variant with 'only' 247bhp instead of the 271bhp of N Performance variant. It is also missing the electronic limited slip differential, a set of larger 19-inch wheels with stickier tyres. Meanwhile the Renault packs 276bhp and is equipped with the optional Cup chassis that comes with a limited slip differential and a stiffer suspension set up. So which is the better car? The upcoming Renault Clio R.S. is rumored to be getting a larger 1.8-litre turbocharged engine thanks to its brother, the Megane R.S. As reported by Caradisiac, the hot hatch is likely to make around 225bhp with the new engine, slightly up on output compared to what the current generation Clio R.S. Trophy makes. The Trophy makes 217bhp with its 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. With only a slight bump in power, Renault will be able to keep the smaller Clio R.S. from being too close in performance to its larger hot hatch, the Megane R.S. The same engine makes 276bhp in the Megane. The next generation Clio is expected to debut at the 2018 Paris Auto Show in October which also means that the RenaulSport variant should not arrive anytime sooner than late 2019.

Selected markets will be getting Renault's new special edition Clio R.S 18. It is named after the Renaultsport F1 Team's 2018 challenger and is adorned with the similarly themed black and yellow livery of the F1 car. Changes to the car are minor, but driving enthusiasts will still be happy to hear updates such as the revised front dampers with hydraulic compression stops, a sharper and more direct steering, and an Akrapovic exhaust for a deeper sound. Inside, the it gets a numbered R.S.-branded door sill, Alcantara and leather-trimmed steering wheel, carbon fiber trim air vent surrounds, and redesigned carpet mats. Since the R.S 18 is based on the Clio R.S 220 EDC Trophy, it uses same 217bhp 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as its 'normal' sibling.
