  4. It doesn't matter if you are a motorist, a pedestrian or a cyclist - road safety is of paramount importance and should be instilled in us from a young age. NGL, I felt very heartened after witnessing what this father did for his family to ensure their safety: What Happened? A father stopped his bicycle to "block" oncoming traffic so that his family could cross the zebra crossing safely. However, the cam car driver he blocked wasn't too happy with his thoughtful act towards his family and decided to upload this video to social media and publicise his act. A Responsible Parent That's what I think. I would say it is entirely fair for the father to do what he did to safeguard his family's safety. Furthermore, that's a zebra-crossing. So regardless, any car would have to stop for the family to cross the zebra crossing. However, some netizens are saying that the cyclist ought to have thanked the cam car driver for making him wait at the zebra-crossing: Here's my take - whether or not, the father decides to gesture a "thank you" to the cam car driver is his prerogative. Netizens' Comments Are we reading too much into it?😩 Nuff said. 👏👏👏 ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 8. Everything I Am | Official NDP 2020 song by Nathan Hartono Erm. I dunno much about music, but I find this MV a bit cringey leh. Don't have the uproaring or patriotic feeling like home. But nevertheless, Nathan Hartono is a talented singer! 🙂

  10. Carstyle

    BYD Song

Any idea whether distributors will bring in cars like BYD Tang and Song SUV, especially the 1.5T hybrid version? Very impressive performance and fuel economy, with practically all electronic stuff on the dash. Other models like BYD Tang and Qin are also very impressive.
  11. "I WAS not surprised to read about Volkswagen receiving complaints about defective parts ("Volkswagen tops list of complaints about new cars"; May 31). With more Volkswagen cars on the road, I cannot comprehend how defects could have slipped through the cracks, with German technology renowned for its precision and attention to detail. I drive a Volkswagen Polo and had to haul it back to the workshop twice in the first two months after I bought it. The first incident - loud rumbling noises - occurred just two days after I collected my car. I was informed after a thorough inspection that its front suspension was loose. Two months later, I experienced a sudden braking force while driving on the expressway. I had to steer the car away from the divider to avoid an accident, damaging the rims and wheels when they hit a short kerb. When I filed the incident report with Volkswagen, the manager who handled my case told me repeatedly to "touch my heart to reflect" if the problem was with the driver, not the car. I felt ridiculed by this unprofessional company representative. In both cases, Volkswagen reported no technical fault with the car and I had to cover more than $16,000 in repairs. Having bought the car in July 2012, I was not protected under the "lemon law". Volkswagen is no longer what it used to be decades ago, when it was a fledgling continental brand keen to establish an Asian foothold. It is unfortunate that Volkswagen has lost the confidence and brand loyalty of customers like me. How Volkswagen employees communicate with customers also suggests the firm is neglecting the importance of maintaining first-class service standards, which could have differentiated it from other brands. Advertising and marketing campaigns to rejuvenate the Volkswagen brand in Singapore are merely surface improvements. Volkswagen must recognise that great service will leave an impression deeper than any fancy billboard and creative advertisement. Eugene Wong Jin Wei" - ST Forum, PUBLISHED ON JUN 9, 2014 12:05 AM
  12. Launched in U.K., the Ford Focus RS Heritage Edition and is limited to 50 units. ] As part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Escort, the special edition hot hatch also homage to the introduction of the RS brand in Britain. Sporting a special orange colour paint job, it comes with grey brake calipers, forged alloy wheels, and black side mirror and rear spoiler on the outside. Elsewhere, a front mechanical Quaife limited-slip differential and a Mountune ECU remap will make the keen driver a smile wider and longer. The remap which will not void factory warranty, will allow the engine to make 370bhp, up from the stock 345bhp. Torque is now rated at 510Nm from the 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder. The limited edition hatch serves as a swan song to the Focus RS, which will see its production come to an end on 6th of April.
  13. CHIA Song Hwee Head, Strategy Co-Head, Portfolio Management Co-Head, Singapore I just realised Chia Song Swee former Chartered CEO is now one of the top guys in Temasek.... Common.... anyone here from Chartered Semi??? We don't know how his EXACT performance is like in Chartered but it is a FACT that during his years as CEO of Chartered semi from 2002 to 2009, Chartered Semi shares plummeted like a rock. In the end, we sold Chartered Semi to Global foundries. Seriously, what did he do that makes Temasek want him as Head Strategy??? Did chartered Semi do extremely well? What did he do that makes Temasek hire him to manage our Portfolio and Strategy? What strategy did he implement in Chartered Semi that ended up with Chartered share price dropping like a rock, making losses for many quarters, and ended up being sold to Global foundries. This is crazy.

  15. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/getting-more-singaporean-singles-to-date-gangnam-style "Single Koreans may be discreet in not openly advertising the fact, but if asked, they won't deny it either," she said in a Facebook post yesterday at the end of the South Korean leg of her trip. "Starting early, proactively reaching out to meet new friends, openness to getting help, and having a relaxed attitude all seem to be the essential ingredients to enjoyable and successful dating. Can this style of dating help more Singaporean singles, perhaps?" "Single Koreans may be discreet in not openly advertising the fact, but if asked, they won't deny it either," she said in a Facebook post yesterday at the end of the South Korean leg of her trip. "Starting early, proactively reaching out to meet new friends, openness to getting help, and having a relaxed attitude all seem to be the essential ingredients to enjoyable and successful dating. Can this style of dating help more Singaporean singles, perhaps?" Mrs Teo, who had been in South Korea since Sunday, visits Denmark next. USING DATING AGENCIES Single Koreans may be discreet in not openly advertising the fact, but if asked, they won't deny it either. Starting early, proactively reaching out to meet new friends, openness to getting help, and having a relaxed attitude all seem to be the essential ingredients to enjoyable and successful dating. Can this style of dating help more Singaporean singles, perhaps? MRS JOSEPHINE TEO, Senior Minister of State, who oversees population matters. Singaporeans and Koreans are marrying later in life, which has contributed to the low birth rates in both countries. In 2014, Singapore had a total fertility rate of 1.25 while South Korea's figure was 1.21. By encouraging dating, the hope is that more singles will pair up, tie the knot, and eventually have children. One way of doing so is through dating agencies, an industry which is well-established in South Korea. Its more than 1,000 dating agencies are found mostly in the capital Seoul, and it is not uncommon for parents to sign their single children up at these agencies. The largest agency, Duo, offers specialised services such as professional dating coaches and "couple managers", who counsel couples working on their relationship or who want to get married. More than 32,000 people have been married after meeting up through Duo - which sounds like the Korean word for "marry" - since it began operating in the mid-1990s. Mrs Teo visited Duo's headquarters in the glitzy Gangnam neighbourhood, which is frequented by celebrities and well-to-do Koreans, and which was made popular by Korean hip-hop artist Psy's 2012 hit song, Gangnam Style. Making reference to this, Mrs Teo said in her Facebook post: "Dating 'Gangnam style' may be deliberate but still fairly cheerful and relaxed, and very often aided by family, friends or professionals." In earlier comments to reporters during the visit, she said dating agencies in Singapore will need to take into account the local culture to be successful. For instance, Singaporean parents may be less keen than their Korean counterparts to pressure their children to date or to sign them up with a dating agency. One agency success story which Mrs Teo cited in her post is that of newly-married Ms Kim Minhye, 34, who is pursuing a PhD in sociology at the National University of Singapore and shuttles back and forth between Korea and Singapore. "I was very much into work and studying, and at some point, it just wasn't enough. I was looking for something more and wanted someone to share my dreams with," said Ms Kim of her decision to sign up with a dating agency in South Korea about two years ago. After uploading her profile, she was eventually matched with a bespectacled engineer who is four years older than her. Recounting how her Singaporean colleagues reacted when she told them that she met her husband through a dating agency, Ms Kim told reporters here: "Everybody looked at me really, really surprised. They said it's highly stigmatised in Singapore. "In (South) Korea, the stigma is still there, but not as much. Practically, there are no other ways to meet people, so we accept it. It's not that natural, but what can we do? We just choose to go and try." Ms Kim's parents were also surprised by her use of a dating agency, but she said they thought it was an innovative way for her to meet someone. 17. We ain't Singapore, Singaporeans (new NDP theme song) http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/eat-drink-man-woman-16/we-aint-singapore-singaporeans-new-ndp-theme-song-5124890-2.html There was a time when people said That Singapore will shine on, but we didn't There was a time when riots no longer happened and we were happy then they did Our little nation, squeezed and mean, quarreling with one another Where's peace and harmony? This ain't my country, is that my flag? I have no future, I have no life My family is suffering, my friends have left We ain't Singapore, Singaporeans Singapore so glitzy, it’s a chalet but nothing more Foreigners united, they are showing us the door We’ve ended up so broken, our soul-less destiny Singapore at 50, a nation on its knees This ain't my country, is that my flag? I have no future, I have no life My family is suffering, my friends have left We ain't Singapore, Singaporeans We ain't Singapore, we ain't Singapore We will kneel together and see the lion crawl We ain't Singapore, we ain't Singapore We’re a SG50 but nothing more

  21. Commissioned by Infiniti Europe and titled 'Chromatic', the whole song is made up of sounds generated by the range of Infiniti cars. Those sounds include things like the depressing of brakes, the gear shiftings, the clicking of seatbelts, the revving of engines and other bings and bongs from the entertainment system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DDhy7ZH1_TUWith the help of global producer and composer Megadon Betamax who recorded and processed the sounds digitally, an upbeat and funky tune was created. We can barely believe the whole song is made from car sounds only. Watch the making of the video to see how they did it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nf73NA7I9Cs

  23. The National Day Parade theme song, which has long been one of the hallmarks of Singapore's birthday celebrations on Aug 9, will be scrapped this year. This will be the first time since 1998 that there will not be an NDP theme song. Instead, parade spectators will be singing familiar and popular songs such as Home and Count On Me Singapore. They will be among 10 songs to be compiled into an NDP 2014 Songs Album. This is in line with this year's theme, Our People, Our Home, said the parade's executive committee chairman, Wong Yu Han, who added that such familiar songs "deeply engage" Singaporeans. "This year, what we want to do is to get our people to bring us back again to those familiar songs that we have grown up with and, importantly, learning to sing together." http://news.asiaone.com/news/singapore/no-new-theme-song-years-ndp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qTkVG6lWvwY FAVORITE! The new songs are unable to strike a chord with Singaporeans at all. I wonder why... OLD IS GOLD.
