    Volvo XC90

Hi guys, Just wondering whether there are any Volvo owners here...not just restricted to XC90. Will you buy a Volvo now, since they are owned by Geely? Any concerns about future quality of services and parts?
  2. Months of speculation ended today after Volvo Cars unveiled its all-new Volvo XC90, delivering on its promise to introduce a visually striking, premium quality seven-seat SUV with world leading safety features, new powertrain technologies, an unrivalled combination of power and fuel efficiency and a superlative interior finish. Three years in the making and part of a USD 11bn investment programme, the new XC90 marks the beginning of a new chapter in Volvo’s history, capturing its future design direction, incorporating its own range of new technologies and utilising its new Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) technology. “This is one of the most important days in our history. We are not just launching a car, but re-launching our brand. This day marks a new era for our company. The XC90 paves the way for a portfolio of exciting new cars to come in the following years,” said Håkan Samuelsson, President and CEO of Volvo Car Group. Volvo’s new face Symbolising this historic day in Volvo’s 87 year history, the new XC90 will be the first of its cars to carry the company’s new more prominent iron mark, which has the iconic arrow elegantly aligned with the diagonal slash across the grille. Together with the T-shaped “Thor’s Hammer” DRL lights, the iron mark introduces an entirely new, distinctive and confident face for Volvo’s forthcoming generation of cars. The XC90’s larger bonnet with its new topography, the beltline and the sharpened shoulders connecting with the tattoo-like, new rear lights are other important design signatures that will be mirrored across the range. To add more visual muscle from the sides, the XC90 comes with a range of wheel sizes up to 22 inches. “The overall impression, both exterior and interior, has a strong connection to the key elements of the Swedish lifestyle: the generous space, the celebration of light and the focus on wellbeing,” said Thomas Ingenlath, Senior Vice President Design of Volvo Car Group. First SUV without compromises The XC90 is firm evidence of the Volvo-by-Volvo strategy. Its outstanding combination of luxury, space, versatility, efficiency and safety will bring the SUV segment into a new dimension, just as the original XC90 achieved in 2002. “SPA has enabled us to create the world’s first SUV without compromises,” says Dr Peter Mertens, Senior Vice President, Research and Development of Volvo Car Group. “You get the in-command feel, generous interior space and flexible capability combined with the agility and smooth comfort of a much smaller and lower car. The adrenaline rush that is key to true driving pleasure is delivered by powertrains that offer an unrivalled combination of power and clean operation. And since the XC90 carries the Volvo badge, world-class safety is standard.” Unrivalled combination of power and fuel efficiency The new XC90 offers a range of two-litre, four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains, all of which provide an outstanding combination of performance and fuel-efficiency. The top of the range XC90 Twin Engine, which combines a two-litre, four-cylinder supercharged and turbocharged petrol engine with an electric motor, offers an unrivalled combination of power and clean operation: around 400 horsepower with carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions of around 60 g/km (NEDC driving cycle). Most comprehensive standard safety package The all-new XC90 offers the most comprehensive and technologically sophisticated standard safety package available in the automotive industry. It includes two world first safety technologies: a run-off road protection package and auto brake at intersection capability. In a run-off road scenario, the all-new Volvo XC90 detects what is happening and the front safety belts are tightened to keep the occupants in position. To help prevent spine injuries, energy-absorbing functionality between the seat and seat frame cushions the vertical forces that can arise when the car encounters a hard landing in the terrain. The XC90 is the first car in the world with technology that features automatic braking if the driver turns in front of an oncoming car. This is a common scenario at busy city crossings as well as on highways, where the speed limits are higher. City Safety becomes the umbrella name for all of Volvo Cars’ auto brake functions, which are standard equipment in the all-new XC90. It now covers vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians in front of the car, day and night. The all-new Volvo XC90 – front offset crash test “The new technologies will take us a significant step closer to our vision that no one will be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car by 2020,” says Dr Mertens. “Our starting point on safety is the same today as it was when the company was created almost 90 years ago: real-life situations. We study data. We crunch numbers. We innovate. The result is one of the safest cars ever made.” Three focus areas will help Volvo Cars to reach Vision 2020: safety, connectivity and autonomous drive. “With the XC90, we take the first step towards self-driving cars. A new function that automatically follows the vehicle ahead in stop-and-go traffic will provide a radically simplified, semi-autonomous driving experience,” said Lex Kerssemakers, Senior Vice President, Product Strategy and Vehicle Line Management of Volvo Car Group. Luxurious interior The XC90’s interior is the most luxurious to have been designed for a Volvo. The most striking feature is a tablet-like touch screen control console, which forms the heart of an all-new in-car control system. This system is virtually button free and represents an entirely new way for drivers to control their car and access a range of Internet-based products and services. It also helps create an interior that is modern, spacious and uncluttered. “The new interior is pure and uncluttered, while still radiating the sophisticated confidence and formality that luxury SUV customers expect. The simplicity is perfectly in tune with our Scandinavian design heritage. It opens up generous surfaces and gives us the opportunity to create a modern, luxurious interior architecture,” says Mr Ingenlath. The new XC90 interior combines materials such as soft leather and wood with handcrafted details, including a gear lever made of crystal glass from Orrefors, the famous Swedish glassmaker, and diamond-cut controls for the start/stop button and volume control. Craftsmanship has been in sharp focus during the whole development work. The all-new Volvo XC90 - interior The genuine seven seater features new, innovatively designed seats that also free up interior space for passengers both in the second and third seat rows. The third row offers class-leading comfort for two passengers up to 170 cm tall. One of the top audio systems in the world The XC90 features one of the top audio systems available in the automotive world after Volvo Cars audio experts joined forces with their counterparts at the renowned British audio equipment company Bowers & Wilkins. The top-of-the-line system in the XC90 features a 1,400 Watt Class D amplifier and 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers. It also includes one of the first air-ventilated subwoofers in a car. Integrated into the car body, it turns the whole interior space into a giant subwoofer. The latest sound processing software has ben used to manage the timing of the sound and co-ordination of the speakers. This brings the emotional experience of a world-class live performance into the car. Two main accessory themes The all-new XC90 is available with a range of accessories that makes it possible for the owner to create a truly personalised car. There are two major exterior styling themes: The Urban Luxury package combines a colour co-ordinated body kit with polished stainless steel details, such as front deco frames, front and rear skid plates and side scuff plates. The 21-inch exclusive polished wheels complete the elegant look. The Rugged Luxury kit enhances the ruggedness of the XC90 SUV with tech matte black exterior trim, stainless steel skid plates, running boards with illumination and integrated exhaust pipes. This version is supplemented by unique 22-inch wheels. The All-New Volvo XC90 will be launched in Singapore in the second half of 2015.

    X5 or XC90?

Am thinking of getting a pre-owned SUV. Narrowed down to X5 or XC90. Any opinion or owner stories to share about each of these rides? Me split between the two but the Force is strong with Beemer. Some questions in mind: - I read FC on X5 is not good. Some hovering at 5km/l? Some owners on newer models report higher FC at ~8km/l under assumed equal driving patterns. FC on XC90 seems better since it is 500cc lower. - Any ride specific pointers or issues to look out for? - What is your opinion of these 2 models from an owner's perspective? Enjoying it? Thank you in advance!
  7. This post first appear in Asiaone Forum on 9 September, 2011. What car? 2012 Volvo XC90 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_XC90 What is it? America was still reeling from the horrific events of 9/11. US Marines were pursuing Al Queda operatives in Afganistan, Saddam Hussien was still the tyrant over Iraq and Volvo launched a mid-size luxury SUV, the XC90, to worldwide acclaim. Yes, it was that long ago. The car you are looking at in these pictures is essentially the same one from 2002. Usama bin Laden might be long gone but the XC90 soldiers on and receives a facelift while Volvo mulls over its long over due successor. What is new?The SUV receives a new 3-spoke steering wheel, standard interior aluminum trim and a new instrumentation inspired by watch dials with white lighting. All 2012 XC90 has Daytime Running Light (DRL) fitted alongside new taillamp with dual light guides, LED brake lights and six-spoke 18-inch wheel in silver-matt finish. The rear tailgate gets a split function with upper and lower opening sections and an all-new load cover. There is also a new, color-coordinated lower door moulding and redesigned bumper bar in silver metallic finish. Executive variant gets soft leather seats with ventilation and massage functions. R-Design XC90 gets redesigned interior upholstery, new inlays and door panels. It also receives a ‘bespoke chassis’ with 19-inch wheels. Your son or daughter might have not remembered of the original XC90 if he or she's 12th this year. That's Volvo's mid-size SUV for you. Next year, this is all about to change because there is an all-new XC90 developed under Geely's ownership of the Swede brand as it goes on sale after this year's October Paris motor show debut. The second-gen XC90 sits on the automaker's new Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) which will underpin all future large Volvos. It will run exclusively on new 2.0-litre four-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines and will be offered in optional front-wheel and standard all-wheel drive variants. Plus, Apple's CarPlay interface will appear on the XC90's 9.3-inch center stack portrait touchscreen.

  9. Based on Volvo's safety record, it is no surprise its latest offering, the XC90 SUV excelled in the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety's (the IIHS) crash tests. The Institute reports the XC90 got 'stellar ratings for crash protection and for its standard front crash prevention system.' It also got itself the maximum six points for having had its crash culling tech rated as 'superior.' No intrusion larger than two inches was recorded anywhere in the driver's space. The Institute added that it was most impressed with it in the most difficult test of all, the small overlap crash, where you can see in the video below. The XC90 simply pushes itself off the barrier instead of letting the car absorb the impact. In doing so, the IIHS has awarded the car its highest Top Safety Pick+ distinction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=28&v=Rf7t_D0CSgg
  10. The Lithuanian police has recently released a clip showing a cruiser in pursuit of a first generation Volvo XC90 equipped to terminate a police car. From the start, its obvious that the SUV has no intention of stopping as he drove reckless past traffic junctions risking not only his life but the lives of innocent drivers. After sometime, the video shows the car starting to spew out smoke like something out of a spy movie. As soon as the smoke got concentrated enough, spikes were seen being flung from the car to puncture the tyres of the police car behind. What is shocking is that the spikes weren't thrown by someone but by some sort of 'mechanism' which meant that this wasn't any ordinary criminal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hePrs5TyE0A
  11. We thought we were looking at the top of the line when we watched Volvo unveil the new XC90 in Sweden. But it turns out the company was just getting started. The XC90 Excellence followed in Shanghai, joined by the even more pampering Lounge Console Concept. And now the Scandinavian automaker is showcasing another variation on the theme with the version you see here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmidDG-q8g8 This one's called the Child Seat Concept, and in case you couldn't tell from the name, it's focused on spoiling your baby. In place of the front passenger seat (or the foot rest assembly on the Lounge concept), Volvo has fitted a whole assembly catered toward infants and toddlers. The seat is replaced by a raised platform that holds the child seat, which swivels towards the door to make it easier to get a child in and out of the vehicle. Underneath that platform is plenty of storage space for diapers, blankets, and what have you, with room for a tote bag in what would otherwise be the front footwell. Of course, this is just a concept for the time being, and we can hardly imagine many people ordering up a new luxury crossover specifically to transport their baby around. But if Volvo were to, say, develop a front seat that folded forward to incorporate the best elements of the Lounge Console and Child Seat concepts, it could make itself even more of a favorite among wealthy suburbanites.
  12. The First Edition of the all-new Volvo XC90, 1,927 individually numbered cars only available for sale via digital commerce, sold out in 47 hours after it was released on Wednesday afternoon at 16.00 hours CET. Most of the cars were reserved within one hour from sales start. At its peak, 7 cars were sold every minute “We are very pleased, but not really surprised,” said Alain Visser, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service of Volvo Car Group. “The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world premiere last week.” The First Edition cars, which celebrate the year Volvo was founded, were for the first time in history only available at www.volvocars.com. The 1,927 First Edition owners of the best SUV in the world will get a fully equipped car with uniquely numbered tread plates and a distinctive badge on the tailgate. “The first buyers signed up for their favourite number in milliseconds. The rapid response confirms that the XC90 is a truly iconic car model. The First Edition will be a collectors item in the future,” said Alain Visser. Black exterior an Amber leather seats The Onyx Black exterior and 8-spoke, 21-inch Inscription wheels are combined with an interior featuring nappa leather seats in Amber, a Charcoal leather dashboard and Linear Walnut inlays. The First Edition will be powered by a high-performance petrol or diesel engine from Volvo Cars’ new four-cylinder Drive-E powertrains. The supercharged and turbocharged T6 All Wheel Drive has an output of 320 hp, while the D5 twin turbo diesel engine has 225 hp. The engines are teamed with a smooth 8-speed automatic transmission. Striking tablet-like touch screen The tablet-like touch screen in the centre is one of the most striking features in the all-new XC90. The heart of the all-new in-car control is virtually button free and represents an entirely new way for drivers to operate their car and access a range of Internet-based products and services. The Bowers & Wilkins audio system features a 1,400 watts Class D amplifier, 19 speakers and the latest sound processing software, which brings the emotional experience of a world-class live performance into the car. Most comprehensive standard safety package The most comprehensive and technologically sophisticated standard safety package available in the automotive industry includes two world first safety technologies: a run-off road protection package and auto brake at intersection capability. All of Volvo Cars’ auto brake functions vehicles, covering cyclists and pedestrians in front of the car, are also standard.
  13. Volvo is renowned for making cars which are some of the safest in the industry, and the marque isn't just going to rest on its laurels. As soon as it has shown us the all new XC90 - its best-selling seven-seater SUV, it released a crash test video that demonstrates just how strong (or how safe) the new car is. The XC90's safety cage is reportedly constructed out of hot-formed boron steel - the strongest type of steel currently used in the industry. And the result is nothing short of impressive. As shown in the clip, the new XC90 passes three unique tests with flying colours - a frontal offset crash test at 64km/h, a side impact crash test at 55km/h and a rollover crash test at 48km/h. Expectedly, the new car also features an array of safety features, including two world firsts - run-off road protection and auto brake at road intersections. http://vimeo.com/105218176
  14. 18. Hi there, I considering a family utility vehicle which is solid and safe. I notice that the price of a 2005 volvo xc90 and 2005 benz ML350 are about the same. XC90 is a much more common car on the road. Does anyone have any feedback about the 2005 or 2004 ML350? For about the same price, would you go for the three pointed star?

    XC90 or A6?

Which would u go for and why? I know one's a 7-seater SUV and the other a comfy cruiser. But juz curious.
  21. Found some info: (from Volvo Press Release) Hot on the heels of the introduction of Volvo's first V8 engine at the 2004 Paris International Auto Show, Volvo Cars of North America, LLC (VCNA) is proud to present the eye-grabbing XC90 PUV at this year's Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association (SEMA) tradeshow in Las Vegas, Nevada. And there may be no better place to show the audacious Swede than Las Vegas. Covered in a luscious racing red paint scheme, the Volvo XC90 PUV will keep the drivers of high-end European exotic cars glancing in their rearview mirrors. "This was such a fun concept," noted Vic Doolan, President and CEO of VCNA, "that we just had to do it. It could possibly be the ultimate Volvo. It has all the safety that Volvo is known for with the looks and performance of an exotic car." But a concept it will remain as neither VCNA nor the Volvo Car Corporation may ever offer anything like the XC90 PUV. Noted Doolan, "This is just to get the juices flowing; to draw attention from those who may not have considered Volvo before." Pushing the "Next Generation SUV" to the Next Level Once you get past the XC90 PUV's aggressive stance and fully customized body enhancements, a true beast lurks within. Still a work in progress, the XC90 PUV is slated to eventually achieve a whopping 650 horsepower through the use of a massive supercharger, revised engine mapping and low restriction exhaust. That power is routed through a modified version of Volvo's Haldex electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. The system is "pre-charged" meaning that power may be instantly routed to the wheel with the most traction. A new 6-speed automatic "Geartonic" transmission rounds out the driveline. Right out of the box, the production Volvo XC90 V8 has the makings of purebred performer. With 311 horsepower and 325 ft.-lb. or torque at a low 3,900 rpm the Volvo XC90 reinforces its position as one of the most successful SUV models in the premium segment. The new V8 engine marks a new turning-point in Volvo Cars
  22. You don't have the right of way and you are cutting in n out of traffic along boundary rd towards amk ave 1 and you can still jam brake in front of me when I horned at you. F*** YOU!
  23. Volvo XC90 and BMW X5L: The sludge match By Autocar Buy one and your life will almost certainly be made easier Let's get two things straight right away. First, the non-off-roading off-roader may be the most maligned of motoring breeds, but it's also one of the most bought. We're converts; you need to have driven a big four-wheel drive around town to get the appeal of sitting high above traffic, unfazed by kerbs, with seats, space, cupholders and cubbyholes only a people carrier can match, yet without the dowdy image. We're not going to debate whether you should buy one; your life will almost certainly be made easier if you do. Second, this test won't give much weight to these cars' ability to scale Scafell Pike. Only a tiny minority of those sold in the UK will even venture onto its foothills. Plainly, this hands a clear advantage to the two cars you really want to read about - the XC90 and the BMW X5 - as well as the Mercedes ML. But it will be instructive to see if there's any point buying a capable off-roader for road use; as we'll see, the Volvo, BMW and Mercedes don't get it all their own way. Buy one of these and practicality and ease are clearly more important to you than lap times; they make most sense with the economy and lazy low-revs urge of a diesel, so that's how we've specified them. The XC90 immediately looks impressive; for your
