  1. normal la ... PML the whole company is to service and repair BMW car it’s like you walk into CBTL or Starbuck ... how can be no coffee ah beng workshop is ... got money then go buy parts to replace normal servicing like engine oil and filter sure have la but engine parts ... biz is biz ... it’s not fair for them to stock up hence, my only advice to PI buyers take the warranty and dont have high hope your win is the $30k upfront savings ... go temple and pray car swee swee bo lemon ... win liao! pml car also got lemon ... for PI G30 520i if savings is > $30k with simi sai 10 years warranty is indeed very tempting btw, how much is pml selling for 520i?
  2. Just Kidding lah BTW in Turkey the F10 520i is a 4 pot 1.6litre engine...Thats the Real 516 Just rebadge as 520i :p Talking about 730 is a 4 pot 2 litre engine...Big Body Small Heart :)
  3. I suppose being avid automotive fans in here, we get to share and gain some knowledge about which car brands/models are better for COE renewal. There will be exception of course, where someone picked a lemon if unfortunate. Fact is, a German marque may not be much more expensive to maintain than a Jap or Korean brand. If you are talking about major suspension, gear box, engine or sensor issues, yes, the conti makes will definitely be more expensive to repair or replace. Just heard from a friend he has to repair his Hyundai steering column/pump for $700 - dont know if that's a normal price. That is when knowledge of the vehicle you are renewing comes into play. If you set aside a budget (i.e. $80K) for a car for the next 10 years. You can either get a new Jap/Korean car or a renewed COE conti car (C/E200, 320i/520i, A4 or the IS250) for less depre but slightly higher maintenance which works out to be around the same $8-9k/year. When I was looking for a replacement for our Jap b&b car, COE renewal was top of the list (we were the only owner since new). However, a single owner, low mileage (<30k verified) German b&b car nearing COE expiry popped up during the search. It was quite the obvious choice. The condition of the car and driving experience (RWD sedan, electronic memory, quieter cabin...etc) is a few notches up vs if we were to renew the Toyota (which reliability is exceptional and we had no complains about for the past 10 years). So $6+k/year vs $4k/year depreciation decision. In the end, the Toyota was sold to a relative for 5-year renewal and they are driving it daily today, doing only regular maintenance. But I am also aware that the COE car after 15 year mark may be more expensive to maintain vs the Jap/Korean car at age 5 years. Long story short, know what you are buying and there are some bargains to be had. And the bottom line is, I also have no money to buy new car if not the Skoda RS245 is tops (though minus 1 mark, for being FWD).
  4. No problem at all, bro. This is a subjective topic anyway and I can see where you are coming from. I have a friend who is an AD of certain accessories such as suspension and rims from Germany. Thanks to him, I get to know a Porsche engineer who has been in the trade for decades. We met up a few times in Frankfurt over a few events and we discussed a few things of interest. This German is a big fan of motoring and has a passion for technical details. Most of the time I pretend to know what he was talking about, but one message that I got from him was in a car company like Porsche, they do not like the word "maximising" but they prefer "optimising" a car. For instance in our example, a 520i is already "optimised" by billions of BMW Euros with the engine, drivetrain and suspension all perfectly aligned. If we upgrade engine power, the rest of the component performance may not keep up with the engine performance and we will get a 520i which is not "balanced" (this part is very technical and I catch no ball). Of course we can also upgrade the drivetrain and the suspension, but as layman, where do we get the perfect point or sweet spot? To the German engineer, 3rd party mechanics are considered laymen too. Said engineer proposed to keep the engine performance stock, and asked us to buy our cars with the highest performance we can afford and leave it like that. He is not opposed to cosmetic changes such as addition of navigation which will not end up with material changes to the weight distribution of the car. Then again I understand we are just talking about 520i and 528i here, but I will recommend the same logic as it should apply to all cars. My humble opinion. Good night and sleep tight, my friend.
  5. Its like the Lexus GS, 2nd and 3rd Gen models in those days. They always had a 3000cc engine and attract higher road tax than the usual German suspects like E200/E250, 520i/523i, but still did reasonably well against them on the sales front. Another example is the 2.5L IS250 against the smaller MB and BMW. Also agree with @Beregond that quality will eventually sell itself, but may take some time.
  6. I feel that in terms of bang-for-bucks at $200K region, nothing beats the Stinger. It also has lots of street presence with its long, low and wide stance. If you were a Stinger V6 driver, and you were hanging out in a pub with the boys, and they are all driving 520i and E200 and A6, I know who is the one to respect. 😉
  7. Thanks all Bros for the reply! yes, I understand that badge factor will not be as high, but i prefer to have more value for money vehicle. Went to test drive e200 and 520i before and the power is lacking so much from the f10 that the difference is night and day. Personally I feel that no point showing nice car to others when own enjoyment for power and driving dynamics is not there. That’s why I liked the stinger. as for the badge, I think I have already enjoyed the conti badge factor enough for past years so for this car if the badge not great it’s not a big deal. and yes, I’m referring to the 3.3 V6 and will compare to the Arteon, though from what I read it’s a smaller engine.

  9. You just bought a G30 530i issit? Anyway, PML was super packed today - probably because of their "$0 downpayment" gimmick. Have confirmed that both the 520i and 520d are now on display and available for booking. Prices aren't looking that pretty, though consistent: 520d Luxury (i.e. entry level) - $262,800 520i Luxury - $266,800 530e iPerformance (Sport trim) - $280,800 530i Luxury - $282,800 530i M-Sport - $297,800 540i M-Sport - $358,800 Hope this helps.
  10. 530e is fully electric. Well, need to think too much before buying. In my case, even if it is same price as 520i, will go for 520i or spend more get 530i
  11. The RHD G30 520i will probably arrive in this part of the world after 7th mth so RadX would just missed out.....LOL http://www.bmwblog.com/2017/07/17/entry-level-bmw-520i-will-arrive-australia-september/
  12. Just my humble opinion, but it is best a workshop owner not post on a topic unless he or she is certain. A simple search can be done with the vin code to check the piston part number. A 520i will only share the same piston as the 528i when the 520i is ordered with the low-compression option. Code SA858. Without the low-compression option, as is the case for most 520i here, the piston is different from the 28i version. This is proven and you can probably run a vin check to prove me wrong when you are free. And to check whether one has the 11:1 or 10:1 version is even simpler. Just check the birth cert of the car. N20B20B and N20B20A. 20A means is the 10:1. 20B means 11:1. However, 20A does not necessarily means that it is the 180kw version because it can also be the 135kw version with the SA858 like on some z4...or that is how rumours have it. You are the expert and you probably know way more than me. However I will like to point out that it is more than just the compression that prevents the 20i from matching the power output of a tuned 28i. Go check some dyno chart. The 20i has been shown to run a much leaner afr than the 28i...
  13. https://www.drive.net/b/714661/ if you google ... there are plenty of blogs and articles on n20 320i/520i vs 520i/528i piston and compression ratio btw, If you see N20B20A= 10:1 compression ratio. Here it is the 528i. If you see N20B20B= 11:1 compression ratio. Here it is the 520i.
  14. I mean if 520i - $220,800 after discount and 520i Luxury - $227,800 after discount. then Luxury is a no brainer... but my hdb 5 room purchase price always haunting me as I bought my house at $226,700 11 years back. Asking me to pay similar price for something which last only 10 years and yet keep depreciating is a taunting experience so far... I am still a practical old man who prefer cash in pocket most of the time despite I love to join the "exclusive club" which is also not that exclusive anymore in Singapore. Today a short 15 min drive I counted more than 8 x 520i zooming around already. LOL.. we are indeed first world country now!
  15. I've no doubt the G30 will sell well and maybe the new benchmark instead of E class but not sure if the delay in the car coming to our shores may affect their sales as the 520d likely to be affected by the upcoming punitive measures against diesel cars. 530i is higher end model so maybe that's why PML sell that first and not 520i as likely 520i will eat into the sales of the higher end models if they are introduced at the same time? Quite tough to be an AD with constant moving of goalposts by the authorities means difficult for them to strategise.

    Bmw528

520i and 528i are using the engine if I am not wrong .... so road tax is the same ..... not so sure about insurance. For 10k more, between a 328i and 520i, I would go for the 520i .... maybe becos of my age ..... but the 5 series is one class up on the 3 series. IMO, if someone can afford the budget for a 328i or 520i, money should not be such a big issue ....
  17. yalor ... everyone can says why buy a bmw 520i where you can get a mazda6 2.5T ... faster, better and cheaper .... LOL
  18. I heard no petrol station will sell you fuel if it is going into a storage can, so perhaps I should stick to petrol for now till Euro 5 is widely available in Malaysia. The price differential between a 520i and the 528i is considerable. For some reason, PML is not giving the usual 20k discount (off listed price) for the 520i to the 528i. I am not willing to "stretch" another 40-50k on a 528i when the 520i is good enough for me. 20k maybe, 50k is a tad too much.
  19. My previous car was a Merc W124 E200. It is also 1.5 tonne, with less than 120bhp. That is a real underpowered car, but yet, at the top end of the torque, it is quite fast. Overtaking or coming out of slip road would need some advance planning. Having that car for quite long, I think any car would be more power than this old Merc. Now I am driving a C180 (the previous model), supercharged, 143 bhp, much more powerful, but less power at the top end as the power is in the mid range. When I test driven the 520i and 523i back to back, about 3 months ago, my impression was the 520i is certainly much faster and more powerful than the W124 (also the W124 has 4 speed, the 520i not sure how many speed but certainly the gear change is better). It is enough for Singapore use. But it is not as powerful as the smaller and lighter C180. For the 523i, it is certainly a bit faster if you accelerate (you need to press the pedal harder in the 520i to get that kinda power). The engine is a bit smoother, but I can live with the 520i. That was about 3 months back. PML has discontinued the 523i now, I think. In the end, I still stick to my Merc because the depreciation for my Merc is very high, like losing 55k in 3 years, so I am not changing now, although the PML rep actually told me they can offer at 140k for the 520i.
  20. Think so, it’s part of the features.... I think the G10 520i sportline also good value if your budget is higher.
  21. U need to be on the road more.Ever saw before m3 m5 c63 c43 a45 gtr z4 golf r etc etc , mod till gaolat gaolat? Or simple one, 520i mod to "m5". 320 "mod" to m3
  22. Current 520i at this level because clearing stock. New 520i will be at least matching E200... BTW, the previous E250 AMG during clearance can be had for ~$210K, and see what is the pricing of new model?
  23. Hello everyone, I am starting a AMA thread just for discussion purposes.Possibly to help answer some comparison questions between cars I have driven before, from my individual perspective. (Not a show-off thread - as I am not financially strong enough to own a car). A bit of background, I been a seasoned driver, been driving regularly for the past decade. I have never owned a car before, but I am blessed to have the opportunities to drive my friends and relatives' cars on a regular basis, or sometimes. I also took some time off to test drive some sedans recently as I am contemplating on getting one. So far, I have driven the following models regularly before: Kia Cerato Forte SX 1.6L 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.6L Toyota Wish AE10 1.8L Toyota Camry Prestige XV40 2.0L BMW 216i Gran Tourer Diesel-powered BMW 316i F30 BMW 520i E60 XL BMW 523i F30 Audi Q5 8R 2.0T 2019 Mazda 6 2.0L Standard 2018 Mazda CX-5 2.0L Premium I have already managed to clock limited miles on the following cars: 2019 Kia Cerato Forte SX Honda Civic 10-Gen 1.6NA Hyundai Avante S 2019 Mazda 3 HB 1.5L Premium Volvo S90 Happy to answer any questions with respect to interior, exterior, performance and feel of these cars. Cheers.

    Jaguar XE

Yes, Sure, I really get a stealing price at 140k nett. Being monitoring for the XE 2.0t for a long time period as being attempted to buy even since the promotion price at 159k, but due to my BMW 520i still perfectly functioning so to stop my gear to go for that in 2018. Just happened to see the ad that event cars go for 140k with 10 unit limited on 2nd March, so quickly booked a shining red XE within a hour as that is my dreaming Jaguar color. Will be getting my car in about 3 weeks, so would like to hear more feedback and comments from fellow brothers here as what I need to be looking for and attention to after owning of this animal.
