  1. Look very sleek and just like a mini 7 series, minus the controversial monster size grille.. The car's shark-like front nose appears to be sitting lower compared to the current model to lend the 5 Series an angrier look without the odd split headlights of the next 7 Series, X7 facelift, and X8 / XM. A subtle spoiler integrated into the trunk lid can be seen as well, while the dashboard appears to be fully camouflaged. It's likely a sign the cabin will be completely revamped, possibly by adopting the dual-screen setup with a 12.3-inch driver's display and a 14.9-inch infotainment as seen in the iX and i4 electric models running on iDrive 8.
  2. Max Verstappen should have said: "Limpeh confirm, chop, can drive faster and better than you!" Hahahaha It turns out that being a three-time Formula 1 world champion doesn’t get you a leg up at the rental car counter, as Max Verstappen recently learned when on vacation in Portugal. Source: https://jalopnik.com/max-verstappen-too-young-to-rent-amg-gt-sports-car-on-v-1851128701 As reported by The Sun, Verstappen’s family and friends arrived in Algarve on three different private jets, having booked 20 rental cars through Sixt with the intent to drive to the Algarve International Circuit (also known as Portimão), which Verstappen had rented out for two days. When the Dutch world champion arrived at the Sixt counter, he was told that he could not drive the Mercedes-AMG GT that he had reserved for himself because he was too young. Sixt’s insurance policy for the GT requires that drivers be 30 years old, and Verstappen is only 26. His manager ended up taking the GT, while Verstappen had to make do with a BMW 5 Series. A source said: “Max and the group went to Portugal for a fun racing trip and had booked the cars they wanted. “When they got to the airport, Max was shocked when he was told he wasn’t allowed to drive the Mercedes he wanted. “He’s a seasoned F1 driver who’s used to handling powerful cars, so it’s quite astonishing to think he wasn’t allowed to get behind the wheel of this one — but those are the rules, so he abided by them.”

  4. Changing lanes can be a risky manoeuvre, especially with oncoming traffic behind you - That is why: (1) Our vehicles come with side mirrors; and (2) We must check our blind spots before performing a lane change. However, a BMW 520i driver does the unthinkable despite oncoming traffic approaching from behind: What Happened? After exiting the infamous Newton Circus Roundabout, a BMW 520i found himself stuck behind a Mercedes-Benz B-Class in a "go straight or right turn" lane. At that point, the traffic light signal for going straight was green, while the right turn arrow was red. After realising that the Mercedes-Benz intended to turn right (Yes, the Mercedes-Benz did not signal his intention), the BMW driver decided to perform an abrupt lane change to a "go straight only" lane. The BMW driver immediately changed his lane after signalling, cutting off the cam bike approaching him...RIGHT IN FRONT of a Traffic Police (TP) officer. After witnessing the BMW's reckless act, the TP officer did not hesitate to pull him over. It remains unclear whether the TP took enforcement actions against the BMW driver or if the BMW driver was let off with a stern warning. A Sight To See NGL, it is quite comforting to know that there are TPs on our road to ensure that actions are taken against errant motorists. Kudos to the TP officer in the video for his swiftness and for upholding road safety for us all! Netizens' Comments Use signal but never check mirrors or blind spot = Still a d0uche driver. This netizen finally got it off his chest! I hope he realised it and picked it up before leaving the scene... ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 5. This has to be one of the most unique, one-of-a-kind accident you would have ever seen before. The aftermath of the accident might even be meme-worthy. Watch it here: What Happened? The accident occurred at around 7am, at Hougang Avenue 1. As the morning traffic started forming at a red light, a BMW 520i driver decided to perform an abrupt lane change from lane 1 (go straight/turn right lane) to lane 2 (go straight-only lane). Despite an oncoming Toyota Corolla approaching, the BMW driver insisted on squeezing through and changing lanes. Unfortunately, the Toyota Corolla driver was either not paying attention, not practising defensive driving, or simply not fully awake. And needless to say, the BMW and Toyota collided with each other. The BMW driver decided to react by swerving to the right for some reason. And as a result, the BMW grazed the side of a Honda Civic that was in front of it. The back-to-back accidents left all 3 cars perfectly aligned in a straight line, entirely blocking off other motorists from passing through. The jam must have been so bad at this junction, considering the morning jam + the jam caused by this accident. And also, can I just point out how bad I feel for the Honda Civic driver, who was patiently waiting at the traffic light but got implicated in this accident? Netizens' Comments I would love to watch him crawl out from the boot! I can totally imagine this😆 Helicopter helicopter~ ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 6. Contrary to what was taught, your vehicle's high beam is seldom used as a safety feature to enhance your visibility. More often than not, it is a visual sign of giving the motorist in front of you a middle finger. Watch how a flash of high beam quickly turned this BMW driver unhappy: What Happened? This incident occurred at a Tampines Expressway (TPE) exit towards Punggol Road. While traveling on lane 2, the taxi ahead of the cam car indicated his left signal and proceeded to change from lane 1 to 2. The taxi continued leaving his left signal and started changing lanes from lane 2 to 3. However, before the taxi could successfully change lanes to lane 3, a BMW 535i emerged from behind. For some reason, the cam car decided to flash his high beam as a 'warning' to both the taxi and BMW drivers. And not to anyone's surprise, the BMW driver quickly became unhappy at the cam car's unnecessary flashing of high beams. As a result, the BMW driver gave the cam car a brake check and proceeded to switch lanes multiple times to be behind the cam car. He proceeded to give the cam car a taste of his own medicine - by shining some light on him. Moments later, the BMW driver quickly accelerated and cut abruptly in front of the cam car before performing another brake check manoeuvre. Was It Necessary? TBH, the cam car's action was uncalled for. At 0:08 of the video, the taxi was already canceling his lane change manoeuvre when the cam car flashed his high beam. Essentially, the cam car's high beam did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING but agitated the BMW driver. In similar scenarios, honking is the better solution to alert fellow drivers instead of high beams. After all, the intended purpose of a car horn is to alert motorists of impending car accidents/collisions. Netizens' Comments Exactly! It is important to check your blindspot before performing any lane change. No problem then want to find problem🤷‍♂️ I wouldn't bother retrieving my dashcam footage for something this trivial. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 7. The story is that an ‘Ah Seah Kia’ used his dad’s BMW to race along the KPE and he got caught For anyone wondering what an ‘Ah Seah Kia’ is, it essentially means a ‘rich man’s offspring’, often also referred to as 富二代 (fu er dai) . In this story, it’s basically a spoiled child using his daddy’s money for kicks on the highway Watch the video for yourself below Too Fast, Too Furious Caught speeding at 154km/h (almost twice the prescribed speed limit along the KPE), this rich man’s offspring was charged with jail time, a fine as well as a driving ban. But wait, there’s more! That doesn’t seem to be the only law that he broke so far, apparently this video was caught during the Covid-19 circuit breaker back in 2020, where all of us were not allowed to leave our homes unless it was for essential purposes. For violating Covid-19 regulations as well as for driving in a dangerous manner under the Road Traffic Act, he was jailed for a week and fined $4000 on June 21. As part of his sentence, he was also suspended from holding or obtaining all classes of driving licenses for a period of 2 years. Seems about right, this irresponsible behavior on the road could lead to potential fatal accidents. Perhaps his punishment should have been more severe, Netizens called for a harsher punishment that might properly discipline someone with access to ‘daddy’s money’. Its maximum sentence indicates that he could have been jailed for up to 18 months, fined up to $15,000 in total, and be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving license for life. I counted 10 other cars in the video! What happened to the rest? Besides the BMW, a blue Nissan GTR was also caught on video speeding along the KPE with at least 9 other cars. In an effort to protect his wife upon discovering that video footage of his GTR speeding was posted online, Tan Choon Hwee took his car to the paint shop for it to be resprayed in yellow to evade suspicion. But justice was served when he pleaded guilty on March 11 to intentionally misleading the police and was jailed for a week. There have been no further updates about the fate of his wife and the other drivers. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 8. https://www.bmwblog.com/2022/02/25/bmw-m-50-years-emblem/ Just a opinion on these 50 year hood / boot badges that are popping up on new BMW cars . And they are also available from certain places to buy . Note that these are original badges and cost around $22x including shipping. Thoughts on whether it is idiotic to install these on an older BMW 😅
  9. According to LTA, the number of new Teslas in Singapore increased from 8 to 487 from July to Q3, 2021. Regardless, the number of Teslas in Singapore remains small and unreported in user-submitted video platforms...until TODAY! Warning: The video contains wheel spins, turbo spooling, engine revving, and exhaust burbling Excited? Watch the video here: The Cars Involved What Happened? The "race" took place at Orchard Road, where the BMW 535i (cam car) attempted to chase down a Tesla Model 3 Performance. Upon the traffic light turning green, you could hear the wheel spin of the BMW 535i as all 300 BHP was sent to the car's rear wheels. Meanwhile, the Tesla Model 3 Performance was almost silent, apart from the noise coming from its tyres. Tesla's instantaneous torque coupled with its All-Wheel Drive and 473 BHP allowed it to gap the BMW 535i within seconds. I would say that the Tesla smoked the BMW 535i, but...there isn't any exhaust system on a Tesla. How to smoke when there isn't any smoke? You could hear the BMW driver laughing to himself in defeat and telling his passenger that his BMW was no match for the Tesla. BMW driver Could Not Swallow His Pride Moments later, both cars met at another traffic light, where they raced again. Sad to say, it was just a copy-paste of the previous race. At this point in time, you just feel so bad for the BMW 535i driver. Netizens' Comments Probably the only thing the BMW can win the Tesla in. That's some audacity right there. 10. The recent weekend was probably eventful for most Singaporeans and Malaysians in Singapore as the Causeway reopened for the first time in 2 years due to the pandemic. Many Singaporeans flocked to Johor Bahru to do the things they love most: shopping, eating and pumping cheap petrol. "Sia Suay" Unfortunately, Singaporeans have become notorious in Malaysia for the wrong things during the opening weekend. This includes jacking up their car to 'effectively pump more petrol' and pumping the subsidised RON95 fuel, exclusive only for Malaysians. NGL, the above incidents aren't much of an issue - the pumping of RON95 could be an honest mistake from the lack of the driver's awareness after not driving into JB for so long. A National Embarrassment Guess what's worse? This guy, a young driver of a BMW523i fitted with quad-exhaust, urinated publicly in Johor Bahru. He was caught in high definition by a CCTV camera and posted online for the world to see him urinate publicly. Watch it here: *Warning: The following video could contain sensitive content. The viewer's discretion is advised.* Drop your thoughts on this incident in the comments down below! I, for one, feel disgusted and ashamed of him and his actions. Netizens' Comments Give this man a medal. One of the funniest comment I have read so far! 11. No $$ to buy new model so considering old model. Both are 2,500cc. 2007-08 models for both are similarly priced. Would you choose E230(W211) with V6 or BMW 525i(E60) with IL6? Why? I've test driven some time ago a C230 (same engine as E230), and a 325i(same engine as 525i) and my impression (if memory serves me correctly) is that the IL6 for the 325 is more willing to rev, more responsive. Creamy smooth mated to its 6-speed gearbox. It also seems that 325i has much better sound insulation which I can hardly hear any enging noise most of the time. I've no idea about the gear system of the Merc but the engine noise of the V6 in the C230 is much more intruding to the drive cabin perhaps due to sound insulation? The engine note is also much sweeter for the 325i while that for the C230 is more coarse. Shouldn't Merc be very good at V6 as IL6 to BMW? Besides engine, what other consideration you have? Care to share? Cheers!
  12. The new BMW 5 Series scores a full house with its suite of updates, but we highlight three technological and two efficiency features in particular which we think make it worthy of the lot in your house! In addition to the new BMW 5 Series' heightened sense of outward authority, BMW has graced its mid-sized sedan with a winning hand of upgrades that makes sure it stays ahead of the competition. sgCarMart looks at the three most impressive tech changes and two new efficiency measures that make it your home away from home. BMW Operating System 7.0 and optional 12.3-inch Control Display With the new 5 Series' Operating System 7.0, BMW brings the convenience of having your own, personal butler along with you wherever you go. Keep in touch with your closest mates with the new Android Auto smartphone integration, or better yet, make use of the Concierge Service to effortlessly find the right place to eat even while you're out and about. Those who opt for the Live Cockpit Professional will also get both the cockpit instrument display and central control display upgraded to 12.3-inches. The new cockpit instrument display is capable of providing 3D renderings of the car surroundings, making sure that navigating around the city is a breeze in the 5 Series. Meanwhile, the scope of configuration of the central control display has been upgraded to provide easier access to information, so you never have to fuss around to look for any information you need of the car. Adaptive LED lights with matrix function You don't tolerate insufficient lighting in your home, so why should you when out on the road? The LED head lights of the 5 Series now come with adaptive cornering lights and non-dazzling high beam with matrix technology so you always have a clear idea of what is happening on the road. The system even uses info from the GPS to decide what levels of illumination are necessary, so you always get optimised lighting for every driving situation. And for those who need greater illumination, BMW's Laserlight is now available as an option on all 5 Series variants. The Laserlight system is capable of nearly doubling the range of the conventional head lights by emitting a non-dazzling high beam at speeds over 60 km/h, while also boosting the effectiveness of the low beam when driving on curving roads, ensuring you always have sufficient vision of the road ahead. BMW's upgraded driving assistance feature now make driving through even congested roads as relaxing as settling into your favourite couch at home. Lane departure warning now comes with lane return, for example, meaning that should you accidently leave the lane, not only will the steering wheel vibrate to give you an additional warning, but the car can also automatically steer you back into the lane itself. Parking assistant Equally impressive is the parking assistant feature, which allows the car to take over control of the accelerator, brakes and steering in order to deliver you a truly mindless parking experience, regardless of whether you're parking in a parallel or a perpendicular space. And if reversing out of a dead end is too much of a chore, the 5 Series can do it all for you as well, thanks to its new reversing assistant, which constantly remembers your steering inputs when driving at low speeds so as to be able to trace back the exact line you last took. With the car helping you to get the steering angle just right, all you need to do is to control its speed and look out for any obstacles in its path. Your home runs on electricity for emission-free power, and now the 5 Series can too. Well, nearly. With a plug-in hybrid drivetrain now being offered, you can whet your appetite for electric power while cutting down on your tailpipe emissions. new tech But those who don't have the option to charge from their homes need not fret. BMW is also introducing mild-hybrid technology so all can benefit from the efficiency gains of electrification. The new tech means that even those who don't want the trouble of plugging in their car can still benefit from Brake Energy Regeneration, while getting a taste of the instantaneous torque that comes from an electric motor thanks to the electric boost effect of the 48V electric starter-generator. You don't compromise on design at home and now you need not settle for compromises with the 5 Series as well. Thanks to BMW's new 20-inch Individual Air Performance Wheels, those who are looking to specify larger rims on their executive sedan can do so while reaping added efficiency gains. The new wheels achieve this by utilising innovative light-alloys and are designed to reduce the aerodynamic drag coefficient by around 5% compared to conventional rim designs, and mark the first time a carmaker has combined cast aluminium with aerodynamically optimised inlays into a single wheel. As an added bonus, those who opt for the plug-in hybrid model together with the aero rims will also improve their car's electric range by an average of one kilometre*. car Looking for your next home away from home? This new 5 Series will do nicely. *This value is based on the new WLTP test cycle and is translated back into a NEDC-equivalent value in order to ensure comparability between the vehicles.
  13. Hey guys, i'm contemplating whether to renew one of my company's BMW 523i F10 Highline. Below are some of the mods/upgrade i'm intending to do if i eventually get the car. Assuming the car is in 100% stock condition, i'd like some advice on the dos & don't from fellow tiong chia hia dis. 19" M sports Rims (What is the best tyre profile?) Shock Absorbers/Suspensions LCI Headlights ( The squarish headlights instead of the stock round ones.) Keyless Entry + Electronic Push Button (Not sure whether it comes with it?) M Sports Steering Wheel Chip tuning (Increase Torque/Bhp. Understand from some friends need to change Air Intake or something like that.) Quad Exhaust (LTA Friendly?) Interior change to Maroon (Any Idea where can find for this 10 Year Old Bimmer) Brembo Brake Kit (No idea what is 4 pot or 6 pot and which is sufficient) Key FOB (Any idea if can use the latest gen G Series Keys to Sync on an F10 Key?) Upgrade on display I'm also intending to do my own servicing + changing of filters. Need some advice on the type of EO and Filters for better performance.
  14. Despite many manufacturers equipping their cars with many safety systems onboard their cars, they do not make the car immune to the laws of physics as we can see from these videos below. front.MP4 We got hold of these videos via some of the various random group chats that have been circulating it and from the looks of it, the accident happened earlier this morning (9 Jan 2020) while the roads were greasy from the drizzle over the day. We are not sure which part of the ECP highway this is but what is clear is that the camera car was driving at his own pace on lane 2 before (what looks like) a group of 3 BMW F10 5 series overtaking the camera car. Unfortunately, one of them lost control while trying to overtake his mates due to the last min abrupt weight transfer as he did the sudden lane change from 1 to 3. 44db9e47-1ba5-44ab-a4c2-1ad0dc8180cd.MP4 We have no idea if the DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) was turn off or was it too much even for the DSC to save in the first place? Kudos to BMW for building a decently strong car. Despite the seriousness of the crash, the car still looked like it held up pretty well. Anyway, with the recent rainy weather, do take extra care when on the roads and make sure your tyres have enough thread!
  15. The all-new BMW 5 Series will boast more technology, more space and greater efficiency when it arrives in 2017 BMW’s new seventh-generation 5 Series will have innovative autonomous tech and the option of plug-in hybrid technology when it arrives in Singapore sometime next year. The current 5 Series has been left trailing by newer rivals such as the Jaguar XF and Mercedes E-Class, which have gained the upper hand in refinement, technology and comfort. This all-new 5 Series looks set to change that, because it will benefit from innovations seen on BMW’s 7 Series. Changes start at the front with new, sleeker LED headlamps integrated with the trademark kidney grille; adaptive LED lights with a 500-metre illumination range will also be available. The surfacing is more complex than it is on the current car, with a prominent shoulder line stretching back to the tail-lights, while the bonnet shut line has been removed. Twenty one exterior paint finishes will be available, while alloy wheels will range from 17 to 20 inches in diameter. Beneath the new body, the 5 Series also benefits from a new chassis – it’s the same basic platform used on the 7 Series but without the carbon fibre core. Nevertheless, it helps cut 70kg from the kerbweight alone. More extensive use of aluminium on the body, plus lighter brakes and alloy wheels, sheds another 30kg. The 5 Series also maintains its 50:50 weight distribution. For the first time BMW will also launch a 530e plug-in hybrid version of the 5 Series, which will become part of the recently launched iPerformance line-up. Its powertrain will comprise a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and electric motor, which jointly develop 249bhp and 420Nm of torque. More significantly, BMW claims the 530e will also be capable of 141.2mpg with CO2 emissions of 46g/km. The most efficient diesel model is the 520d EfficientDynamics edition, which is powered by a 187bhp 2.0-litre diesel paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. It is claimed to return up to 72.4mpg and emit just 102g/km of CO2. The standard 520d uses the same engine but is the only model with a six-speed manual gearbox, and as a result economy drops to 67.3mpg and CO2 emissions go up to 108g/km.

    BMW 523

Guys I'm looking at 2nd hand BMW 523. Does anyone know what's the difference between the 05 and 06 version? I saw one 05 with a normal key, where as the 06 has the push button starter.
  17. I am buying one of these, new one from AD for my next 10 years usage, my annual driving is around 18k mileage, seldom do long distance drive. Reliability, how much do i need to set a budget for repair cost (not under servicing and maintenance) for these model typically for 10 years driving. What are the typical problem parts which need repairing? I am not sure how to choose, i am fine with all these car style and handling and electronics. Seeking advices from the many car gurus here, which car is a smart buy? considering cost and maintenance. Thank you.
  18. Just got back from their showroom, asking 148k . . . i think if negotiate till the cow comes home, can get below 145k !!!
  19. Due to be revealed on 13th of October, official images of the G30-codenamed BMW 5 Series in M Sport trim has been leaked onto the net. Spotted over at the Germancarforum, the 5 Series looks very much like a smaller and more athletic version of the 7 Series. Inside, the new 5 Series mirrors the 7 Series too, with very similar-looking design, switchgear and layout for its dashboard. The steering wheel is new to the 5 Series though. Said to lose as much as 100kg over its predecessor with the help of its new Cluster Architecture (CLAR) platform, the new model should have improved handling characteristics as well as better fuel economy. Powering the car will be a new family of B series engines. Engine sizes will range from 2.0-litre turbocharged four to a turbocharged V8 for the 550i. The new engines will be paired to a new nine-speed automatic gearbox.
  20. https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=2&v=z0zWMyrQgz8BMW has confirmed it will unveil the new, seventh-generation 5-Series on October 13, 2016. In the lead up, the automaker has released a handful of videos previewing some of the technology that will be available on the mid-size luxury sedan (and wagon in some markets). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrLY7dItEqA These will include semi-autonomous driving aids, such as features that help keep the car in its lane, allow the car to control itself in slow-moving traffic, and sense potential emergencies and provide brake support if necessary. It also looks like there will be a neat remote view feature that, via a smartphone app, provide the owner with a view of the area surrounding the car. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B27_cqnjplk It will ride on a shortened version of the carbon fiber-infused platform that debuted in the 2016 7-Series and, judging from spy shots of prototypes, will also borrow the BMW flagship’s styling. As for engines, expect 4, 6 and 8-cylinder options to remain on offer, all with direct-injection and turbocharging technologies. A plug-in hybrid model is also planned, as are new generations of the M5 and related 5-Series Gran Turismo. It is not clear when the model will be reaching our shores.
  21. hi, my friend has a 520i bought 2 years already. since day 1, the car will vibrate when stop at traffic light in Drive mode. this is of course with the engine still running, idling at traffic lights. can feel the whole car vibrate from the feet and whole seat. every passenger can feel it. It happens the whole day even after warming up. the worst part is that his mechanic at PML says it is normal for this model. they even let my friend test sit the demo car to prove that their demo car has the same vibration. i help my friend search on BMW forums but no one complain of this permanent vibration. only some people complain of intermittent vibrations which goes away after warm up. anyone who drives 520i or has friends who has driven 520i, please comment whether yours got vibrate at idle?
  22. Hi anyone knows whether 2007 BMW 523I can change from amber to white halo ring? Is it illegal? Anyone has any recommendation?
  23. Hello friends, it is time for me to change as there is uncertainity around Mazda and COE here. Car is getting 2 years now. Since there is no obvious Japanese car for me this time (driven CRV, Cefiro earlier), thinking of exploring Conti for a change (my wife is holding me back from those contis). But, sort of convincing her. My choice is in the order they are appearing in the Poll. Thanks for taking the poll.
