Audi‘s next generation S3 model will also be available in Sedan form, featuring the same updated design and improved tech as its hatchback sibling. We can see loads of sporty-looking bits underneath this prototype’s camouflage, such as the chunky front and rear spoilers, large dual-spoke wheels and most of all, the quad exhaust pipe setup which points to this being anything but slow in a straight line. The new S3 Sedan will boast the same hexagonal grille and updated headlights as the rest of the fourth-gen Audi A3s. Still, the front bumper will feature bigger intakes, the profile will have more pronounced side sills, and the wheels will be bigger. At the rear, expect a slightly more elegant design compared to the current iteration, as well as updated taillights with modern graphics. The interior of the next A3, regardless of variant, will have a surprisingly angular design judging by previous images. The dashboard is also driver-oriented, and is expected to feature the automaker’s 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster as well as the latest in infotainment software. Under the skin we expect a similar setup to what’s available right now, namely a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch and Quattro all-wheel drive, altough power and torque figures could increase from the current model’s 295 HP (300 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm). Its main competitor, the CLA 35, has 302 HP (306 PS) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), so a slight bump is not out of the question. Since it’s possible we’ll see the all-new A3 and A3 Sedan debut before the end of this year, the more performance-oriented S3 will likely show up in 2020.

Can this hyper-shooting brake become Audi’s plug-in supercar phoenix? https://www.topgear.com/car-news/concept/audi-pb18-e-tron-has-753-electric-horsepower If at first you don’t succeed, stop thinking logically and design something so white-hot radical it burns a hole straight through the middle of the drawing board and lands smouldering on the floor. We can assume that’s the brief at Audi’s ‘Design Loft’ in Malibu, California, which has dreamt up this concept for a shooting brake electric hypercar inspired by Audi’s dominant decade in Le Mans racing. This 23rd century rollerskate is the Audi PB18 e-tron. Ignore the underwhelming name, merely initials referring the car’s unveiling at the Pebble Beach festival of brightly dyed corduroy and champagne pricier than liquid platinum. Concentrate instead on details like a low, mid-mounted 95kWh solid-state battery, capable of accepting a full, 361-mile charge in only 15 minutes, thanks to 800-volt charging capacity. Or, if you’re less stung by range anxiety, a claimed 0-62mph sprint of two seconds flat. That comes courtesy of three electric motors: one shared between the front wheels, and one each for the rears, developing a combined 661bhp, but capable of short ‘overboost’ spurts up to 753bhp. So far so ‘generic electric supercar concept’. But what makes the PB18 different is its love for you. Yes, you. The driver. Audi wants you there to enjoy yourself. Which is why this is the first battery powered hyper-pod we can remember which doesn’t twin its bowel-bothering acceleration with utopian visions of a self-driving, computer-controlled future. There’s none of that ‘you enjoy the twisties, then let the chips take over for the commute’ rhetoric here. In fact, Audi says the skunkworks codename for the PB18 was ‘Level Zero’, to ram home the fact it couldn’t be further in philosophy from the Level 4/Level 5 grades of self-driving autonomy it’s currently scrambling to offer in flagship models. Should’ve stuck with ‘Level Zero’, Loft-scribblers. It’s better than ‘PB18’ at any rate. Unless you fetishize accurate private numberplates. So, there are no self-driving systems on-board. But you can alter how you experience the ultimate in Vorsprung durch Elektrisch – as long as you’re happy to trust a machine with no mechanical connection whatsoever between its brake pedal and the carbon brakes, nor its steering wheel and those 22-inch front tyres. Thanks to the wonders of drive-by-wire, Audi’s designed the entire cockpit of the PB18 to slide from stage left to dead centre. Bucket seat, pedals, steering wheel and OLED head-up display – which overlays the ideal racing line on circuit into your field of view, or sat-nav directions on the way home into your eyeline – all shuffles as one. Get the full single-seater racecar experience, or ride side-saddle with space for a passenger via a flip-down jump seat. Get the spanners out and it might even fit right-hand drive… Audi might have hit on something with the ultra-flexible cabin idea – despite being Aventador-sized, this is a very practical supercar. The pert shooting brake tail - which is home to an extending rear wing and dropping diffuser which morphs closer to the road for more downforce – allows for a 470-litre boot, not far off what you find in the back of an A4 wagon. Of course, there’s also a Brian Cox brain’s-worth of physics going on here. Like magnetic conductive charging, corner-aceing torque-vectoring, laser headlights and so many lightweight periodic elements in the construction the whole car only weighs 1,550kg – Lotus-like for a full EV. But under it all, it’s supposed to be a selfish, purist driver thriller. It deserves to become science-fact this time please, Audi. Third time lucky?

The new Audi A7 Sportback actually looks... new https://www.topgear.com/car-news/first-look/new-audi-a7-sportback-actually-looks-new The most amazing part of the new Audi A7 Sportback – a car not short of ‘you’re kidding, can it really?’ features - is that you can actually tell it’s new. Check out that craggy 3D lightsaber stretching across the low-lying hatchback’s tapered rump. That’s almost controversial. Now move forward. Take in the rest of the new A7. It’s based on the A8 and Q7’s building blocks, but gives us a good idea what the next A6 will look like. The LEDs illuminate in animated flourishes when the car’s unlocked. There are slashes in the flanks, and a wider, flatter grille than George Foreman’s family barbeque. This is an Audi you might notice, even when it isn’t chasing you down a motorway at a distance measurable only with an electron microscope. Not a moment too soon, either. Audi’s design boss, Mark Lichte, has previously admitted to Top Gear that the old Russian-doll uniform approach was fine when Audi was an underdog, but now it’s up there with BMW and Mercedes. Same again design won’t really do, because people have short attention spans. These cars need to be prouder of the numerous technovations squeezed under the finely creased skin. And the A7 has - technical term here - oodles. Based on the same underpinnings as the latest A8 limo and sharing much of its stunning touchscreen cockpit, the A7 has many of the same superpowers. It’ll be able to remotely park itself without you on board, and drive itself in traffic when its ‘level-three’ autonomy comes on stream in 2018. Its on-board 48-volt electrical system also means the engine can switch off at coast, while kinetic energy is harvested as you slow down. When it goes on sale in February 2018, however, the eyes-off-the-road self-drive abilities won’t be available, and neither will they be downloadable via over-the-air updates. Why? Because Audi bullishly tells Top Gear that “our customers aren’t guinea pigs”. Ten internet points to anyone who guesses which carmaker that’s a thinly disguised swipe at… For the longer, more capacious A7 Sportback Mk2 (there’s more knee and headroom inside, but the thing is almost five metres long and two metres wide as a result), Audi’s headline act isn’t suspension that predicts the bumps ahead (a trick saved for new A8s), but instead, its most computerised steering system yet.

What happens when carmaker Audi, planemaker Airbus and car styling house Italdesign unite to create the most futuristic techno-mobility vehicle possible? In a word, this. The Audi Flying Taxi Concept, set to be presented at Amsterdam’s Drone Week exhibition. An electric car – which can drive itself – and be collected by a pilotless electric drone for airborne traffic dodging. Brave new world… Isn’t this a bit of a big leap to make in one concept? ‘Nein’, according to says Dr. Bernd Martens, president of the Audi-owned Italdesign. “Flying taxis are on the way. We at Audi are convinced of that”, Bernd says. “More and more people are moving to cities. And more and more people will be mobile thanks to automation. In the future, senior citizens, children, and people without a driver’s license will want to use convenient robot taxis.” The craft you see isn’t yet ready to carry a hapless human: it’s a quarter-scale model. Maybe Audi could use it to ferry pets. It appears to work, at least – Audi says that in the Flying Taxi’s first public test “the flight module accurately placed a passenger capsule on the ground module, which then drove from the test grounds autonomously”. There’s no word on what it did then. Did it return? Did it attain self-awareness and elope, Ex Machina style, into society? Probably not, since Audi reckons this drone/claw arcade game hybrid could be in service in major cities within a decade.

With the current R8 nearly halfway into its product life cycle, officials inside Audi are already discussing the new generation's powertrain. With electrification a large possibility, will we see the demise of its natural-aspirated V10 engine? Not so according a report by Autocar, which claimed that there are many in Audi that want to see it live on. The V10 is an icon, and a USP within the segment”, said Audi Sport’s managing director Oliver Hoffman. “With the current R8, our customers love this car. We are fighting for the V10, but [for the next-gen] it’s more or less a question of ICE or electrification, and which kind of engine is useful for it.” It also helps that Lamborghini is thought to remain committed to offering a V10 in the successor of the Huracan, which in turn a sister car to the R8. Hoffman added, “Lamborghini has to have a naturally aspirated engine, no other brand stands for NA like Lamborghini. We are working very close with the guys from Sant’Agata. The only way to develop such kinds of cars is to share the cost for development work and to have a very, very tough platform strategy.”

Audi has released a teaser image showing six upcoming models in celebration of the 25th anniversary of its RS models. With Audi not saying what these car shadows could be, we are guessing the first two to be the new RS6 Avant and RS7 Sportback. They are expected to use the familiar 4.0-litre V8 turbocharged engine that will have more than 600bhp. The next two is a mystery but it does look like it could RS Q3 and RS Q3 Sportback. Expect the compact SUVs to be equipped with a turbocharged 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine that produces more than 400bhp. Next up is also a wild guess but we are betting it to be the new facelifted RS4 Avant. It will likely be using the same turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 engine that develops 444bhp in the current model. Finally, the largest shadow is probably the RS Q8, a sister car to the Lamborghini Urus. It remains to be seen on whether it will have the same power output as the Urus but is likely to use the same 4.0-litre V8 turbocharged engine present in the Lamborghini SUV.

Audi's Compact SUV. Audi claims 405 litres of cargo room with the rear seats up and 1,050 litres with them folded interior Audi’s ‘virtual cockpit’ – a screen that replaces the traditional dials. This will be optionally available for higher spec models and can be configured to emphasise the sat-nav map or the dials depending on the driving conditions.

Audi teamed up with Marvel Studios again, with movie-goers able to expect Audi to showcase its range of electric cars in the movie Avengers: Endgame In conjunction the world premiere of Marvel's latest movie, Audi has released a spot dubbed ‘The Debriefing’ where Brie Larson a.k.a Captain Marvel sits down with a government agent as part of her re-introduction to society after multiple decades away from Earth. The two-minute plus clip is pretty amusing and we shan't spoil it for you readers by explaining it all in words. However, it is interesting to note that the production version of the e-tron won’t be featured in the movie. Instead, the e-tron Sportback Concept, as well as the e-tron GT Concept will be the ones making an appearance. Avengers: Endgame will start showing in our cinemas on 24th April.

The carmaker is suspected of having manipulated more cars than hitherto acknowledged. Munich prosecutors and police officers from the southern German states of Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg on Tuesday searched a number of Audi offices in Ingolstadt, as well as the carmaker's production facility in Neckarsulm, the Süddeutsche Zeitung daily reported. It said a total of 18 prosecutors and an unspecified number of police participated in the raids. Audi, one of Volkswagen's 12 brands, confirmed the searches, saying it was fully cooperating with the prosecutors. The report said the raids were carried out because Audi was believed to have manipulated the emissions levels in more than 200,000 cars for both the European and US markets. Audi stands accused of switching off software that controls waste gas purification systems while the cars were on the road. Large-scale manipulation By contrast, the software was switched on when cars were tested in the lab. The first raids on Audi took place in March 2017 when prosecutors looked into allegations that the company had rigged emissions levels in 80,000 cars for the US market. Its parent company, Volkswagen, had admitted that Audi had participated in cheating efforts. Prior to Tuesday's raids, prosecutors had searched the homes of six current or former Audi engineers responsible for engine technology.

For servicing, i know all will be expensive.. but is there a difference in cost b/w these 3?? (Generally, which will be more expensive in servicing?) Thanks

I had the impression that Audi cars are very reliable, I was still contemplating whether to get a Audi for the next car, but this report says otherwise, that Audi is at the bottom of the list. The new generation of the Audi A5 will be officially revealed on June 2 with the company live-streaming the event online. The two-door version of the A4 is expected to be lighter by up to 100kg (220 pounds) and offer more room inside, courtesy of a longer wheelbase. The engine range will mirror that of the A4 as well, meaning a wide selection of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, with more expensive versions coming with either a petrol or a diesel V6 turbocharged unit. Audi has been teasing its new coupe with a series of animated gifs on its social media for a while now, revealing design details like the front headlight treatment and the curvy rear quarters of the bodywork. Features like the Virtual Cockpit digital display is also present as expected. Apart for the two-door bodystyle, the new A5 will also get a convertible and a Sportback variant. Audi has been caught testing the range-topping RS5 which is reportedly going to use a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 unit in the place of the naturally aspirated 4.2-litre V8, with an output close to 500hp.

The chief executive of German carmaker Audi, Rupert Stadler, has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the diesel emissions scandal. A spokesman for Volkswagen, which owns Audi, confirmed he was being held. Munich prosecutors said they had acted because of a risk that Mr Stadler might seek to suppress evidence. The scandal erupted 3 years ago, when it emerged that cars had been fitted with devices designed to cheat emissions tests. The devices were initially found in VW's cars, but its Audi subsidiary has also been embroiled in the scandal. Last month, it admitted that another 60,000 A6 and A7 models with diesel engines have emission software issues. That is on top of the 850,000 recalled last year by Audi, of which only some have been found to require modification. Munich prosecutors said Mr Stadler would be questioned by Wednesday, once he had spoken to his lawyers. It is reported that Sueddeutsche Zeitung, VW's supervisory board has nominated Bram Schot to be the interim chief executive at Audi following the arrest of Mr Stadler.

Hi all, Presently driving an Audi Q3. Will be renewing insurance in a few months time. 1st year was with AIG. Seems pricey but 1st year had to stick with the insurance company recommended by PA. Anybody knows of other insurance companies which allows servicing at PA and are cheaper? Thanks!

I can't decide which one, both are nice in styling in it's own design. Power wise definitely thumbs up on A5, C Coupe not too bad too. Need your kind comments on them, cheers!
