  1. Mercedes-Benz claims that the 2014 S-Class is the best car in the world. AutoExpress took the brand new German flagship sedan for a spin in Canada to see if the claim is justified. Since the S-Class is supposed to pamper its occupants, the review begins with the reviewer taking a back seat and enjoying the executive seat package. Well, I was pretty amazed by the hot stone massage function, pull-up table from the centre arm rest and air conditioning system which included five different fragrances. The reviewer proceeds to take over the helm and he was impressed by the way the magic body control scans the road conditions and sets up the suspension accordingly. Speed bumps are soaked up very well and the occupants would barely feel them. Taking into account the price and level of engineering and technology, the reviewer concludes by saying that the new S-Class could just be the best car in world. However, everyone has a different set of judging criteria. Perhaps, it would be more appropriate to say that the S-Class could be the best "towkay" car in the world.

  3. Can't afford a Zonda but still want that V12 shriek? No worries, a late 90's Mercedes-Benz S600, SL600 or CL600 and some nice exhaust will solve your problem nicely. For those who know their Mercedes stuff well, you will probably know that the Zonda C12, uses the same unfettled 6.0-litre M120 engine that was found in these large cars from Mercedes. Or there is also the smaller but newer M137 5.8-litre ones that came after the M120. However, I am not sure if there are any such variants left around locally. Anyone seen an early W220 S600 lately? Anyway, if you do happen to have a S/CL/SL600 with you, then get onto Techincal Garage Sasaki's Facebook page and drop them a message saying you want one of their custom made exhaust systems. It comprises of a equal length manifold, front pipe with racing catalytic converter and a centre pipe. Of course it will not be cheap. Nearly $S12,000 to be exact. So is it worth it? Listen for yourself! http://dai.ly/x22n0uc_full-original-exhaust_auto
  4. Look out BMW 3 Series. Details on the 2014 C-Class is starting to emerge. Mercedes-Benz insiders claim that little or nothing will be carried over from the existing C-class and it will be completely re-engineered with the aim of attracting younger buyers. The new C-class will be the first model to use Mercedes-Benz's new MRA (modular rear-wheel drive architecture) platform. Due to the light weight chassis, the new car is said to weigh less despite growing to a size of 4.7m long. The existing MacPherson strut suspension will be replaced by a double wishbone layout at the front while the back will get a significantly updated multi-link setup. Engine-wise, there will be a range of 4-cylinder and V6 petrol engines with an entry-level 2.0-litre turbo with 184bhp right up to a 330bhp 3.0-litre twin-turbo. The current 2.1-litre diesel will be offered in four states of tune, spanning 120bhp to 220bhp. The new C-class will be equipped with a six-speed manual or an updated version of the current seven-speed automatic gearbox, depending on the engine. A new nine-speed automatic transmission is undergoing development and could make it for the face lift in 2017. Four body styles are planned for the new C-class. They include the saloon and estate, which will be launched at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, and a more individually styled coupe as well as a cabriolet version for 2015 launch. All body styles will be 'AMG-ed' and receive a new turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine from the Mercedes tuning specialist. Photo Credit: automotoring.blogspot.sg
  5. A brand new Mercedes-Benz S350 BlueTec belonging to an elderly German couple suffered a total write-off after a fierce fire started in its engine bay at a small town in Germany. The cause of fire was not mentioned in the report but it was said that the flagship sedan suffered extensive damage under its hood. At the heart of Mercedes' W222 S350 BlueTEC is a 3.0-litre V6 turbodiesel powerplant mated to a 7-speeder auto 'box to produce an output of 258hp and 620Nm of torque that will launch the 2-tonner sedan up to a max speed of 250kmh. 7. Proton’s immediate plan is to change its strategy to become a world-standard carmaker, newly-appointed chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has said, according to a Bernama report. The former PM said Proton has always been labelled as a maker of cheap cars. “Now Proton wants to produce cars which are of world standard, but you have to pay a higher price. You can’t have a good car and pay a bad car price,” he told reporters. He said that when the Proton Preve and Suprima S were introduced, people claimed they were too highly-priced for a Proton. “The next car of the same quality is RM120,000. You (consumers) want to have cheap cars, OK, Proton can produce cheap cars. “Proton has to make a living. If consumers want cheap cars Proton will make cheap cars, they run three miles and break down.” Responding to a question if Proton has approached the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) and Petronas for any funds, Mahathir said it had never asked for funding. Asked if he himself as Proton chairman would approach either for funding, Mahathir replied: “No way, because Proton is a private company now and it is able to make progress in research and development.” Mahathir also said the government was now encouraging importation of cars rather than encouraging local industries. “When you import cars, money flows out and you don’t get any technology from them,” he said. Asked if Proton needs government help, he said former South Korean President Park Chung Hee, during his tenure, called up 12 individuals and told them they must go into industry, with him providing the loans and funds. These companies, like Hyundai, LG and Daewoo, were private companies and their government fully helped them, and because of that today they do not need government help anymore, he added.
  8. finally set my mind to take class 2b 10 years after i pass my class 3. it was quite a strange feeling to be in the same place again. one thing i notice is that i think they (CDC) are earning big bucks. The counter girl told me that the booking area is practically full everyday. weekend is even worse. it no wonder why they want to kill off private instructors slowly...

  11. Mercedes has released a slew of photos showing the interior of the all-new 2014 S-Class flagship. The photos are taken in ambient LED lightings, giving a soothing overall feel as though one is in a high-class lounge. The replacement for the outgoing W221 model will be revealed on 15th May 2013. The luxury saloon will sit on a rear-drive platform and offer optional all-wheel drive, as well as the choice of regular and long wheelbases. The 2014 S-Class is expected to be slightly longer than the outgoing model. In the meantime, here's a look at a luxurious cabin at its best.

  14. Daimler Chief Executive Dieter Zetsche has announced an A-Class based SUV is indeed coming our way, during a conference at Mercedes' Rastatt plant in Germany. "This start of production marks a further milestone in our Mercedes-Benz 2020 growth strategy. The A-Class represents our offensive in the compact segment, The compact SUV will be the third model we will build here in Rastatt " said Zetsche. The upcoming A-Class SUV will likely be named the GLA and will share a similar four-cylinder engine with the hatchback model. Mercedes-Benz said the Rastatt plant will produce up to five models in the A-Class family including the hatchback, the B-Class as well as the compact SUV. The automaker said that it will invest a total

  17. The two alleged Boston Marathon bombers, Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, were tracked by the police with the help of Mercedes' factory fitted GPS system in the hijacked 2013 M-Class. Mercedes-Benz USA was asked to locate the SUV using the Stolen Vehicle Location Assistance function on the crossover's 'mbrace2' telematics system. The owner of the M-Class is a 26-year old man whose car was stolen at a petrol station. He informed the police that his car could be tracked by Mercedes' satellite system. Mercedes-Benz USA CEO, Steve Cannon, tweeted, "Just found out that our mbrace2 technology in the stolen Mercedes helped locate the Boston terrorists! Thanks to our amazing law enforcement." Mercedes-Benz USA spokeswoman, Donna Boland, confirmed that Mercedes turned on the tracking feature after authenticating the request. Lesson of the day - use a 'not-so-advanced' vehicle when committing a crime.
  18. Following the release of the facelifted E-Class saloon, Mercedes has unveiled the E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet facelift ahead of their world premiere at the upcoming Detroit Motor Show. The front fascia of both models is slightly different from the saloon version. They get a pair of more aerodynamic head lights with different LED pattern. In addition, the grille gets a single bar instead of two bars in the saloon. Finally, the bumper design is more aggressive and has a larger air intake. The engine lineup is borrowed from the saloon and they come standard with the ECO auto start/stop system. The 2014 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet will be powered by range of gasoline engines from 181bhp (E200) to 402bhp (E500). On the diesel side, the E200 CDI gets a 2.1-litre turbodiesel with 134bhp followed by the E220 CDI with 168bhp. The E250 CDI has the same engine but tuned for 201bhp. Gearbox options include a 6-speed manual and the 7G-TRONIC PLUS auto transmission.
  19. The 2014 Mercedes S-Class will be offered in three body styles which will underpin five models. The three body styles will have varying wheelbase length. The new line-up will include a new coupe model intended to go head to head with the Bentley Continental GT while the cabriolet version is being targeted at Continental GTC. According to a source from Autocar, "the front is a lot more aggressive and there's added structure to the flanks with a prominent drop line, a more rounded turret line and the rear overhang is significantly shorter". The standard and long-wheelbase versions of the new S-class will be revealed to the public at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September this year. The Pullman, which stretches over 5.7m, is expected to make its debut at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show. The Pullman is likely to replace the Maybach 57 uber-luxury saloon, which will compete against the likes of the Rolls-Royce Ghost and Bentley Continental Flying Spur. The all-new S-Class will be equipped with a host of safety features such as rear seatbelt airbags, Active Parking Assist, Attention Assist and Distronic Plus. Photo Credit: worldcarfans.com
  20. [extract] Call me crazy but I think the S-Class is currently the best looking vehicle the three pointed star has on offer. I mean besides the CLS and the facelifted E-Class, the range from Mercedes all look pretty similar don
  21. Mercedes Benz has made it official: the 2011 C-Class Coupe is on its way. The German luxury automaker has announced that it will build the two-door C-Class at its massive Bremen plant, which is already churning out the C-Class sedan, wagon, GLK, SL and SLK. Production for the C-Class Coupe is scheduled to begin in 2011. The C-Coupe Coupe will replace the CLC model and will likely be sold at about the same time as the facelifted C-Class four-door and five-door versions. The addition of the Coupe gives Mercedes Benz three different variants of the C-Class, with a convertible almost certainly to follow. With the introduction of the C Class Coupe, it will be interesting to see how the German automaker plans to differenttiate the new model with its bigger brother, the E-Class Coupe. The bi-door E-Class already utilizes the C-Class platform, and the more expensive E Coupe is almost identical in every dimension to the C-Class saloon. Mercedes may shorten the C-Class platform to better differentiate the C Coupe from the larger E Coupe. Anyway, it's a good bet that we'll know a lot of these answers by the time the Paris Motor Show opens its doors to the media in September 2009.
  22. After six months in Singapore, Mr Oliver Andersch is charmed by the hawker fare. "First-class food," he cooed. But the Austrian has not been quite as impressed with the cleanliness and hygiene of the hawker centres. "Third world," he slammed. "They use the same cloth for everything - wiping away food, cleaning tables. This is disgusting," he said, shaking his head. It is his job to help make it better. He is Singapore's only "ang moh" (Caucasian) toilet cleaner. Although the 43-year-old holds the title of "cleaning excellence and development director" with cleaning company ISS Facility Services, he told The Straits Times: "I'm basically just an experienced cleaning guy." He trains his firm's cleaners to do their jobs more efficiently, with all sessions conducted one on one. Some 200 cleaners have gone under his tutelage. 23. The internet is a great way to send and receive information. Unfortunately for car manufacturers who want to keep their new car details a secret the internet is a pain. The latest victim is the new 2012 Mercedes Benz C-Class coupe, where photos of this new model has been leaked prior to its official launch at the upcoming 2011 Geneva Motor Show. The internet viral marketing network strikes again! The 2012 C-class coupe will take its place as the entry level Mercedes Benz coupe. If you aren't aware, the CLK series was replaced by the E-class coupe and a gap has appeared in the Mercedes Benz line-up. Hence the C-class coupe. The car is basically the C-class front end and a coupe rear. Everything from the A pillar/dashboard rearwards is new. However the design isn't as slick as the E-class coupe or like the CLK series of cars due to the fact that the car does not have the pillerless or no B-pillar look of the E-class and even the CLK-class. I suppose being the 'entry level' coupe, Mercedes did not want to make things too complicated by spending more time designing wind-proof door sills or spend too much on high tensile steel (in order to make the structure stiffer even without a B-pillar). It looks like a tasteful little coupe, much like the last generation CLK. From the looks of things the new C-class coupe will sell. Entry level cars ensure new customers the the marque and being a Mercedes Benz, there are many who aspire to own one (especially the 'towkays' in our region). No details about engine choices as yet but expect the usual 1.8liter turbocharged 4 cylinder and a range of petrol and diesel engines that should end with the new 5.5liter twin turbocharged v8 in the stomping AMG version. source:autobild
  24. For boys, it's only natural that they play bumper cars with their father at some point in their lives. Well, there's nothing to worry about if it's just a game, however it isn't the case in the video below. The Chinese father in the video wasn't playing bumper cars with his son at all. Instead, he was really crashing into his son's BMW Z4 in his Mercedes-Benz S-Class! It's pretty obvious that the father must have been really mad at his son there. You see, even after the crash, he went on chasing his son, this time on foot! However, it seems that age really does matter. As his son was way younger than him, there was no doubt that the young man was way more capable of going from "0 to 100 km/h" on foot than his father was. Yet, no matter how fast any of them could run, it didn't take long for the local police to take both into custody. This seemingly one-of-a-kind incident took place in Ma'anshan City, Anhui, China, and it was said that the incident was triggered by family problems between the old man and his son. Now, besides hefty repair bills, both men are likely to face penalties as well, due to their reckless driving on a public road. So, next time if you're about to argue with your old man, I suggest that you think again as things would have been better if one of those men in the video tried to give in to the other.
