  1. Hi All, Seeking advise from those who had made purchases with a reliable PI and happy with their them (services, prices, etc.) We all have heard of one way or another of horrid experiences with PIs, but I am also sure there are genuine guys who are pleasant to deal with. Any recommendations from personal journeys? Also, other than the peace-of-mind distributorship between AD and non-AD and clearly price differential, are there any things to watch out for/differences between an AD and non-AD car, specifically for the Toyota Camry? Thanks.
  2. ASEAN version will be launched in Thailand next Monday https://paultan.org/2018/10/22/2018-toyota-camry-launching-in-thailand-on-oct-29
  3. Well not really a Camry though most people who don't know what it is will probably think it is one. What it is, is a GX110 Toyota Mark II, also my first Toyota and Japanese car. While it was registered in SG in 2006, it was actually built in late 2004 and ran around in Japan for a year or so before making its way over to our sunny island. In the interest of this thread. I figured I can give you guys a rough idea why $3k after buying a COE car might be a tad too conservative, even on a Toyota (with shared chassis underpinnings from the Lexus IS200 so it's not that obscure a model). I'd had the car for about 4+ months now and I'll share with you (very roughly) how much I've spent on this JDM Camry that was honestly already in "decent" shape. Keep in mind also, that this is a somewhat budget-restricted build so whenever I could I bought items used and also shopped around for the best deals or quotes whenever possible, though I did splurge on some things I really liked and wanted to have. So here's the rough breakdown: New Tein Street Basis Coilovers (approx SGD$900 off eBay including shipping), old shocks were totally gone New Android head unit to replace broken double din radio (SGD$350 off alixpress) New xiaomi front camera ($100) , old camera was also faulty A full service with fresh Millers engine and Toyota gearbox oil Brand new front control arms New steering tie rods New rear toe arms + labour / labour to install coilovers and android head unit / + wheel alignment (Total SGD$2,200, factor in I left the car at the workshop for a month+ to let them sort it out in their own time, + even though this car shares pretty much everything except the exterior with the IS200, parts are still not easily available in SG and had to be ordered in from Japan) Used original 19" Wald rims ($1,200) Used good condition 4 x Michelin PS4S tyres ($600) Spacers ($400) labour to install / mount wheels ($120) Used original Junction Produce Fusa ($50) New custom Karo floor mats ($600) Lace seat covers from alixpress ($50) Used original Toyota front bumper kit and side skirts ($1,000) New original front grille ($200), old one was broken Some other small bits and bobs here and there ($50) Respray exterior only but with colour change and respray all 4 callipers back to black at Huy Ley Huat approx $1,700. (Also factor in again, I left the car there without needing them to rush the job), I don't need a perfect exterior so even though the end result isn't fantastic, it was good enough and I was more than satisfied, though I will eventually send the car into a detailer for proper paint correction and final finishing. Unfortunately, as with all projects, I did end up with some parts I could not use, so these will end up as write-offs. New front headlights from alixpress ($360), could not use because my car is a facelifted version with a slightly different shape that was hard to tell in pictures. Damn. New bonnet struts from alixpress ($40), the seller sent items that are totally not for my car. So that's what I have roughly spent so far also without adding in all the time and effort I spent looking for the parts, finding the best quotes for the paint, all the hours and elbow grease spent cleaning up the car from when I first bought it (it was grimy), all the products I used for cleaning, and also all the taxi/Grab trips up and down workshops and taxi/Grab trips to/fro places when I didn't have the car. Also, I did not add in the $$$ spent going to Vicom and renewing the rd tax just a couple of months after buying the car. Here's the Toyota now 4+ months on, looking not too bad but there's still quite a bit more work to go (no worries on not masking the license plate as this number no longer exist): If you're still interested to see where this is going https://garage36.wordpress.com/category/project-mark-ii/
  4. Hi, just to check, if i buy the Toyota Camry 2.0 (A) Understand it does not come with HID Headlights, Is it an offence if installed? Kam sia
  5. A cam car instigates a feud with a Toyota Camry driver by flashing his high beam at his car. The Toyota Camry retaliates by tailgating, horning and flashing his high beam at the cam car. Watch the video for yourself below: The cam car had initially claimed that the Toyota Camry driver had cut him off without signalling at 0:01 of the video. Though from the screenshot, it seemed like there was ample safe distance between the Camry and the cam car. However, the only issue was that the Camry failed to signal before switching lanes. Moments later, the cam car flashes its high beam repeatedly, provoking the Camry driver. (At 0:07, with the audio turned on, the cam car's repeated flashing felt more like an abuse of the vehicle's high beam to me) In Singapore, the high beam is often used as a sign of displeasure at another driver’s poor road etiquette, such as the Camry driver’s failure to signal when changing lanes. The actions of the cam car enraged the Camry driver, and he started tailgating the cam car and also honked him for a good 20 seconds or so. Subsequently, the cam car performs several abrupt brake checks to indicate his displeasure, causing the Camry driver to also jam his brakes, further provoking him. Finally, the cam car driver came to a stop and got out of his car to give the Camry driver an earful while using his phone to record his confrontation as evidence. Likewise, the Camry driver also used his mobile device to record the cam car driver. The cam car driver claims that the Camry driver spewed vulgarities and made explicit hand gestures to the cam car driver. Somehow, I find it strange that the Camry driver tailed the cam car all this way, only to remain in his car when the cam car driver got out of his car to confront him. Netizen Comments Seems like the cam car driver ain't no angel either. The Camry driver in a nutshell. . The Camry driver better ensure his high beam lever is not broken after this incident🤣 All I can say is that it takes two hands to clap! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 6. Reacting with a brake check to a tailgater or vice versa is courting for trouble. These two actions simply do not go hand in hand with each other. Here's why: What Happened? In the video, the cam car - a Mitsubishi Lancer was gunning down the CTE in the wee hours of the morning at a significantly fast speed. And to its rear was a white Toyota Camry that was also speeding down the expressway. The Toyota Camry gradually sped up and tailgated the Mitsubishi Lancer. Having witnessed the provocation from its rear, the Mitsubishi Lancer reacted with a rather forceful brake check, resulting in the Camry rear-ending it. Despite the collision, the Toyota Camry driver pulled away from the Mitsubishi Lancer before changing lanes and scooting from it. How do you know if it is a Mitsubishi Lancer? A resourceful netizen posted a sgCarMart used car listing: After some poking around, here are the following images of the vehicle in the used car listing: Does the rear of the car look familiar? I don't know about you, but it looks pretty familiar to me. What are your thoughts on this incident? Let me know in the comments below! Netizens' Comments Netizens did not sympathise with the Mitsubishi driver at all. Instead, they went a step further to call him out for performing a brake check, and some went full savage on him. 7. It is basic knowledge not to rush across the road and to look left and right before attempting to cross. However, he learned his lesson the hard way for one impatient kick-scooter rider. Watch it here: What Happened? An impatient kick-scooter rider blindly rode across the road at the entrance/exit point of Waterway Point carpark. He knocks into a motorcyclist's tail-box and falls hard on the ground. He quickly apologised to the motorcyclist and quickly got back up to his feet. Needless to say, the motorcyclist was baffled at how the kick-scooter rider managed to collide with him despite being in a stationary position. Moments later, the kick-scooter rider scoots across the road just as a white Toyota Camry exited the carpark, almost causing a near-miss collision with the Camry. And when the kick-scooter rider was riding away, the motorcyclist made the most iconic hand gesture ever: What do you think of the kick-scooter rider's actions? Is it caused by a lack of situational awareness, unluckiness or simply bo-chap? Netizens' Comments The kick-scooter rider really very heng! Joker leh you! I wonder what hand gesture the white car driver is making to the kick-scooter rider🤔 ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 9. Any opinions on the 2.5 camry hybrid vs 2.5 mazda 6? both priced quite similarly....which is a better buy?
  10. A friend of mine is currently looking at getting a Camry. Would like to seek some comments. Thanks.
  11. Hi guys. I'm planning to buy this car soon. Wanted to get some feedback about this car. Here's the info I digged up so far. 1) Fuel Consumption about 23km/l consider good for a 2.5CC car 2) Made In Australia, I think that's fine 3) PI generally selling the car now at around 110-120K. I do find the pricing quite reasonable. 4) PI offer battery hybrid warranty either 5 or 10 years. Reliability wise, I think being a Toyota should not have issues. How about the comfort? Driving experience? Handling? Acceleration? Braking? Features? Kindly share if you are driving one now.

  13. I was at Expo last Wednesday (6/1) and left at 6:20pm. This Camry (attached) tailgate my back at the exit gantry and gotten his free parking. To test if the parking mgt really chap about these act, I wrote to the Expo mgt. Below is the extract of their repy: Thank you for sending us the details of the tailgating incident at Singapore Expo. We regret that we are unable to pursue this with the errant driver as our system needs his IU number to check if he had paid or not paid carpark charges. It is also not in our jurisdiction to pursue charges against this deliberate act. We are glad that this incident did not cause you any harm and we hope this will not deter you from visiting Singapore Expo in the future. So my question is, are those ERP carpark exit signs saying tailgater will be handed over to the police for real?

  17. Toyota has presented a Lego-made Camry that took over 900 hours to assemble. It will be displayed at the Melbourne Museum Plaza from 21st March to 29th April. Made from more than 500,000 Lego bricks, the life-size car took more than 8 weeks to build and is said to weigh around two tons, or some 400kg more than the actual car. The life-size Lego car features a lot of interesting gizmos, like headlights, indicators and brake lights that actually work, hybrid lettering and Toyota logos on the alloy wheels. The Camry was designed by Ryan ‘The Brickman’ McNaught who is a Lego-certified professional and is one of the 14 worldwide.
  18. According to the BM SE, the FL 2015 Asian Camry is coming in about Jun this year. Saw the Thai version brochure below: http://www.toyota.co.th/models/camry/pdf/camry_brochure_2015.pdf The 2.0L has a new VVTI-W engine with 6 speed GB. Although the design of the Asian camry still not so sporty like the US version but I think this new FL looks good!
  19. The redesigned 2018 Camry will make its debut at the 2017 Detroit auto show next month. Based on some sources, it’ll ride on the TNGA (Toyota New Global Architecture) modular platform that thus far is found under the Prius hybrid and the C-HR crossover, and the car will adopt a slightly wider and lower stance. The traditional three-box sedan shape won’t be drastically altered, however, as Toyota can’t afford to offend those hundreds of thousands of customers who flock to their showrooms each year to pick up the latest version of the Camry. If any real excitement is in store for the 2018 Camry, it will come in the form of a new TRD-tuned version, which was spied testing recently. With quad exhaust tips and aggressive-looking wheels and tires, this hotted-up Camry could use a version of Toyota’s 3.5-liter V-6 engine making upward of 300 horsepower. The standard Camry likely will make do with four-cylinder engines, including an updated version of the current car’s 2.5-liter naturally aspirated unit and a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder taken from Lexus models such as the NX and the IS.
  20. Toyota has previewed its all new Camry in Japanese guise and along with the preview, some available dress-up options from TRD and Modellista. According to Carscoops, these bodykit packages are only available in Japan for now but other markets in other parts of the world will get a full-blown TRD variant in the not too distant future. The new large sedan is said to only offered in Japan as a hybrid. The powertrain consists of a 2.5-litre petrol engine, a small electric motor and will be paired to a CVT.
  21. Darn i d i o t driver... the car on the left most lane already stopped for me and I was already crossing half way to the middle of the road yet u speed up and dashed across me. If I have not stopped in time, I'll would have be older by 3yrs now Such driver should be taken of the road !
  22. To be launched in Japan in Jan 06. Stay tuned!
  23. The Toyota Camry has just been facelifted and Thailand is the first country to receive it. The biggest news for this mid-life update is the debut of the new 2.0-litre VVT-iW & D-4S engine which will be paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. Previously, the Camry 2.0 features an ancient four-speed automatic. While not much is known about the six-speed automatic, we do know the new 2.0-litre engine is a pretty advance unit which will be running a high compression ratio of 12.7:1 versus the 9.8:1 of the old. Toyota's latest VVTi-W(Variable Valve Timing-intelligent Wide) technology which is first seen on the Lexus NX200t is present too. Outputting a decent 164bhp and 199Nm, it gains a useful 17bhp over the old engine. With the help of the six-speed automatic, it is claimed to deliver a 13 percent improvement in terms of fuel consumption. The thais will also be getting a good-looking Camry Extremo sports variant which we guess is unlikely to come to our shores. Interesting features that the updated Camry will feature includes full LED headlamps with auto high beam, Qi wireless charger, radar cruise control and lane departure warning.
