  1. Honda has released a set of photos showing the new Civic Wagon Concept. The concept will make its debut very soon at the Geneva Motor Show. The concept looks quite production ready if we take away the fancy LED surrounding the headlights and fog light casing. The twin-trapezoidal exhaust pipe setup is unlikely to make it to the production version as well. The Civic Wagon is probably one of the smartest looking of its kind among rival products such as the Golf Variant and Focus Wagon. The sleek front end combined with the beautiful front and rear wheel arches creates an aggressive stance. The steeply-raked windscreen further accentuates that sporty looks. The concept version wears large alloy wheels that fill up the wheel arches nicely. At the Geneva Motor Show, the Civic Wagon Concept will be equipped with Honda's latest 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel that is good for 118bhp and 330Nm of torque. The Civic Wagon will enter production next year and will be offered in Europe.

  3. Honda has showcased the latest Civic Type R development car at its in-house test track in Tochigi, Japan. The Civic Type R will be the first model in Europe to have one of Honda’s all new VTEC TURBO engines from Honda’s Earth Dreams Technology range. This 2.0-litre, direct injection, four-cylinder turbo engine is expected to have class-leading output in excess of 300bhp and will be EURO 6 compliant. It is also believed to produce more than 400Nm of torque through its front wheels. Adaptive dampers will allow the car to have a decent ride when driven on normal roads and be sufficiently stiff when on track. Considering that the car has a target of being the fastest production hatch around the Nurburging, large Brembo brakes will come as standard and 19-inch rims are a must. The currently camouflaged car is being put through its paces as part of an extensive testing process taking place in Europe and Japan, ahead of its much anticipated launch in 2015.
  4. Earlier at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Honda’s Europe President, Manabu Nishimae, provided us with a lovely teaser video of the upcoming Honda Civic Type R. In addition to the video, he announced that it will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged lump (with a 7,000rpm redline) and would produce a minimum of 276bhp. We think that this is a brilliant move to keep in times with the current batch of hot hatches. What would be interesting is how Honda would keep all 276 ponies in check with all of them being channeled to the front wheels… At the same time Honda also claimed to make the new Civic Type R the fastest front-wheel drive production car around the ‘Ring' and has apparently gotten pretty close to the timing currently held by the current record holder - the Megane 265 Cup. Watch the video and see the disguised Type R at the famed track. http://dai.ly/x16jkc6
  5. Many of us, including me, know someone who owns or have owned a Honda Civic hatchback. It started from a rather humble and simple beginning and today, it is a favourite among practical car buyers and also among those who seek a budget performance ride. Coming from a country that makes safe, economical and reliable cars, the Honda Civic has proven that it is efficient and reasonably priced too. From its fuel economical engine to its class leading interior, the Honda Civic has sold millions all over the world and that further proves its popularity. Let us take a look on how this humble and practical car began from a three-door hatchback way back in 1973 to a sporty racing breed today. When the Civic hatchback was introduced in late 1972 as the following year model, it was pretty small. Lengthwise it is 138.9 inches long, 59.3 inches wide and it weighed around 680kg. Its 1.2 litre engine delivered around 50bhp which was pretty efficient for a car during that time. The second generation model Honda Civic grew almost 10 inches in length and more than in 2 inches in width. It was offered in several engine displacements. A Si trim was offered in the mid 1980s for the third generation Civic. To accommodate European styling and a sports-based suspension, it increased by 2 inches in length and 2.3 inches in width. Power output from the 1.5litre engine was around 91bhp. The next generation Civic hatchback was the beginning of the model

  8. Hi everyone, may i know how to identify a real Civic Type R(JDM) and normal Civic 1.6,1.8 and 2.0?
  9. Hi Bros, Just wanna make a poll to see which is the preferred car in this forum? :)
  10. Honda debuted the Civic Si concept coupe and Civic concept sedan at the North American International Auto Show, providing the first official preview of the upcoming ninth-generation 2012 Civic. The exterior styling of both Civic concept models is very close to the actual production models that will follow within the next couple of months. The profile of the new Civic is quite similar to the existing version and I thought that the rear lamp combination of the sedan looks like the previous generation Camry. The coupe model features a more aggressive character thanks to the tapered rear roofline, more angular front fascia and several unique parts including a rear air diffuser and a centrally mounted exhaust outlet. Both concepts are fitted with 19-inch machined alloy wheels. "The Civic is known for providing a balance of 'just-right' packaging, fun-to-drive character and outstanding fuel economy, at a price that even first-time buyers can afford," said John Mendel, executive vice president of sales for American Honda. "The redesigned Civic builds on this legacy and promises to be the best Civic yet." Honda didn
  11. hunting 1.8/2.0L car now, civic is in the top of my shortlist, even SE said 1.8 and 2.0 not much different, but the SOHC still can't so make sense.... ,I civic 2.0. in my observation, on the road almost 90% civic are 1.8, is it only due to long waiting period + 2k price different or some other hidden problems

  13. There's no greater cardinal sin in the automotive world than completely replacing a highly successful model with an inferior machine. According to Consumer Reports, that's precisely what happened with the 2012 Honda Civic. Says David Champion, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center: "While other models like the Hyundai Elantra have gotten better after being redesigned, the Civic has dropped so much that now it ranks near the bottom of its category." Just how far has the Civic fallen from CR's grace? The 2012 model's 61 points is a precipitous 17-point drop from the 2011 model's score of 78. That discrepancy is enough to force the Civic out of CR's Recommended list of automobiles. The only small sedan to score lower than the Civic is the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, which has also been widely accused of too-obvious cost cutting compared to its predecessor. Many of the Honda Civic's fiercest competitors, on the other hand, scored very well in CR's latest round of compact car tests. The aforementioned and recently redesigned 2011 Hyundai Elantra earned the top spot overall, followed closely by the 2012 Ford Focus, 2011 Chevrolet Cruze and 2011 Kia Forte hatchback. Also performing adequately but no longer considered class-leading are the Toyota Corolla, Nissan Sentra and Mazda3. http://maintenance.autoblog.com/2011/08/01...nsumer-reports/

  15. Honda CEO Takanobu Ito has told Auto Express the Civic Type-R is still on track to go on sale sometime in 2015. We already know from Honda UK Managing Director Dave Hodgetts the car will offer at least 265 bhp (198 kW) but they are trying to squeeze around 300 bhp (224 kW). Power will come from a turbocharged 1.6- or 2.0-liter engine, with higher chances of seeing the larger displacement under the hood. Development of the model is conducted specifically for Europe and will include several findings obtained from the firm's experience in the World Touring Car Championship. Testing will begin this fall at the N
  16. It doesn't make any sense to me to compare a cheaper car with a more expensive car and then when the conclusion is that the more expensive car is a better car than the cheaper car. But I believe there are many who cannot really decide between the cheaper Altis and the more expensive Civic and are stuck in the decision making. And also it seems that the cheaper car does have some things to beat civic despite being cheaper so worth to have the comparison. Certainly in terms of 0-100km/h timing and fuel economy, civic wins. What about other factors? I will start off with spaciousness and occupants protection, since I have experts data on these. In terms of practical spaciousness, Altis is the winner: source from http://cars.gidblog.com/2008/03/15/new-cor...eration-part-i/ INTERIOR Length (mm) : New Corolla Altis @ 1,810 / CIVIC @ 1,890 (+80) / Previous Altis @ 1,850 (+40) Width (mm) : New Corolla Altis @ 1,420 / CIVIC @ 1,380 (-40) / Previous Altis @ 1,380 (-40) Height (mm) : New Corolla Altis @ 1,200 / CIVIC @ 1,165 (-35) / Previous Altis @ 1,230 (+30) Above is the interior diemenions that we don't usually see in the specs. Civic may have much longer legroom than Alits, but Altis will be less cramp for 3-4 adults seating behind (40mm wider). And with altis legroom already sufficiently spacious, having more shoulder to shoulder space would be more practical than having more legroom. There is more headroom for Altis than civic. In terms of occupants protection for front and side collision, Altis is the winner: source from the european NCAP http://www.euroncap.com models Front side Civic FD 12 15 Corolla 2007 15 16 (the tester car is stated as 2007 which is the same as the altis 2008) Comment on the civic by the NCAP: in the frontal test, the driver's airbag was not sufficiently well inflated to prevent the driver's head from contacting the steering wheel. The passenger compartment remained stable. Structures in the dashboard presented a potential hazard to the driver's femurs. (Altis don't have the above issues). In terms of handling, Toyota claims Altis is the winner. But this one has to be verified by third party expert test drive review. In terms of stopping power, Toyota claims Altis is the winner. But my friend test drive both cars feel that civic stopping power is better. So need to wait for expert test drive to verify. In terms of ride comfort and sound insulation, I don't have expert review comparison for these. But my take is that Altis is either matched or better than civic, since civic FD still sacrificed a bit of passenger comfort for improved driving experience, and toyota has put a lot of effort in insulating the new altis, sacrificing on FC. And my disappointed experience in my good friend's civic FD that the comfort and insulation is only slightly better than my old vios. Even he also sense the difference is slight not significant when he later sit in my vios (btw, my 3yr vios has wider and quiter tires than the old vios stock tires which probably has improved ride quality). In terms of cost, Altis is the winner, obviously. In terms of exterior and interior designs, subjective to personal perference. But I personally find altis exterior more executive looking and more solid feel than the FD, and the interior more elegantly simple, ecofriendly, and got the jen feel while the FD interior is still as complicated as before. Anyone knows if the test drive comparison between this 2 cars are out already?
  17. This is an article from paultan.org. Find it quite insightful as it involves Honda's future. Honda rethinks its future product offerings Future automobile products are planned a few years in advance and with the volatile world markets these days the job of a product engineering team as well as a product planner is getting harder and harder. Autonews.com has a very interesting story they managed to squeeze out of Honda's management at the 2009 Tokyo show centering around one of Honda's most vital platforms – the Civic platform. The Civic platform forms the basis of other vehicles like the Stream, the CR-V, and even other Hondas not found in our market such as the Honda Element. The interview revealed that Honda's original intentions was for the next generation Honda Civic to be even larger and more plush than the current Civic, which has already grown to last decade Accord-ish proportions in terms of length and wheelbase. But that plan has been scrapped. Honda engineers have instead been told to make the Civic smaller and lighter. It's not 100% clear what this means – the Civic may not necessarily become smaller than the current generation. It could probably mean smaller and lighter than originally intended to be, which would hopefully put it around the same size as the current generation. Honda wants to try creating an increased perception of interior space but keep the exterior dimensions within control. Another rumour that surfaced a few months ago was that Honda could be splitting the Civic into two lines like Toyota's Corolla and Corolla Altis, a smaller one for Japanese tax regulations and a larger one for markets that like more metal for their money. But such a mid-way change has caused the project to be somewhat delayed. The current Civic has just been facelifted and a new one is supposed to arrive in 2011, a 5 year cycle after its introduction in 2006. But Honda is putting in more manpower to try to meet the target. If that doesn't happen, the Civic could be delayed for a year or so. Honda president Takanobu Ito admitted the team was struggling. This is not unprecedented, the previous generation Corolla Altis was also delayed and we still ended up with an all-new Altis that was pretty much a reskinned previous gen. Other new upcoming Honda products include the implementation of the hybrid IMA system across more models. Right now it is only available in small to medium cars – the Insight, the Civic Hybrid, and pretty soon the CR-Z. A hybrid minivan is coming – this could mean a few things such as an USDM Odyssey Hybrid or even a Stream Hybrid. Not much else was revealed about which minivan model. There used to be an Accord Hybrid but that was scrapped due to discouraging sales. But larger hybrid vehicles like the Accord Hyrbid is going to make a comeback soon. Honda revealed that a dual-motor IMA system is currently under development. The dual motor system will be configured in a way that it is able to function as an e-CVT in full electric mode, much like the series-parallel system in the Toyota Prius. This means Honda will have a two-prong hybrid strategy – a motor assist parallel mode hybrid system for smaller cars and a full hybrid series-parallel system that can be used in larger cars. A series-parallel hybrid is of course more costly and complicated to implement thus more suitable for larger vehicles that are able to carry higher price tags.

  21. [extract] At the recent Paris Motor Show, Honda CEO, Takanobu Ito, confirmed that the Civic Type R would go on sale in 2015 but did not give out any further details. Although there are about two more years before the arrival of the 2015 Civic Type R (CTR), rumors are starting to emerge with regards to the boy racer

  24. Ever since Honda stopped production for their Civic Type R and S2000 models, the Japanese automaker has not produced any sports or performance based car. You could argue that the Honda CR-Z looks sporty. But that is as much as someone could say about the CR-Z. What many people are wishing for is the car (or range of cars) that made Honda a popular choice among performance enthusiasts and that is the Type R cars. For those who feel disheartened by the absence of such cars, do not despair because Honda has confirmed that there will be a new Civic Type R. Honda
  25. Honda Civic was voted Winner of the highly competitive family sedan category by Car Buyers' editorial. Below was extracted from Car Buyers' Guide 08/09: The 8th Generation Civic first appeared on our shores in 2006, 3 years down the road, sales for the Civic have literally hit the roof making it the hottest selling make of car in Singapore currently. Peer through the Civic's list of talents and you'll see why the car is so hugely popular. The styling is sleek and futuristic coupled with that two-tiered space age dashboard makes the Civic an instantaneous hit. The Civic is also the benchmark when it comes to interior quality and fittings, well built and lined with materials that belong to car a few classes up, the Civic is still truly a class above the rest. Winning this category three times in a row is a feat in itself and the Civic still gets our vote this time round. Being such an all-rounder, it's hard not to love the Civic. Externally, the Civic's stylish looks reinvents the classic three-box sedan silhouette and retains an air of unqiueness even though Civics can be found at every turn these days. Engine choice alone will probably leave the driver in a daze as there is a Civic literally for nearly every budget. There's the entry level 1.6, a mid-range 1.8 for a little more power and for the top of tehr ange, the 2 litre has the best performance in its class. Those that want to save the earth will also be delighted to know that a hybrid variant is also available with a 1.3L engine backed by an electric motor. All in all, the Civic's highly capable packaging makes it the obvious choice still, be it performance, variety, styling or even comfort, the Civic has gotten it just about right. Regards,
