  3. TLDR: Powertrains: US carries over the 1.8l with 139hp now, 2.0l dynamic force with 169hp available like the hatch. US hybrid variant TBA, Europe/China gets the 1.8l hybrid found in the Prius, carries over the 132hp 1.6l with improvements. No word on the 2.0l higher output hybrid variant. USA gets 6spd rev-matching manual or dynamic force CVT with launch gear like the hatch . Chassis: Also TNGA like the hatch, shares same extended 2700m wheelbase as outgoing sedan and current wagon aka Touring in Europe. Tech: Apple Carplay and Amazon Alexa available, no word on Android Auto yet. Toyota Safety Sense 2.0. Some China variants get rear air-conditioning, TBA for other markets. Sport/Prestige: See videos below. China has both, EU Prestige only, TBA other markets. The Sport will likely be the base look in USA, with XSE taking a more aggressive look (see imgur link below). Autoblog.com reported last monday (July 30th) that Toyota is in the process of forming a special committee dedicated to creating interesting cars, mainly because Toyota has no sports cars left in their current line-up. Lexus is of course working on some good stuff, i.e. the IS-F and LF-A, but since the MR2 and Supra, Toyota has only been supplying the non-performance section of the market. So the time has come for the resurrection of the AE86, a Corolla coupe from the 80's. Japanese car magazine Best Car (Japanese language site) has pried loose some initial specs of the AE86: under 4m long, approximately 1,7 m wide, measuring 1,35m from the ground up, target weight lies under 1000kg, will most likely be powered by a 1,5 liter 2NZ-FE engine. Toyota's new partner, Fuji Heavy Industries (or Subaru to most people) will be supplying the RWD drivetrain. Like the Scion xD, which is branded as the Toyota ist in Japan, there is a good possiblity that the AE86 might make it to the USA as a new Scion tC, or as an entirely new Scion budget performance car.   6. <Toyota GR Corolla Teased with a Game of I Spy Toyota dropped a teaser on Instagram with tons of hidden clues about the upcoming hot hatch, which is expected to use a 268-hp three-cylinder engine. TOYOTA Toyota teased the upcoming GR Corolla hot hatch with an image shared on Instagram that featured hidden clues detailing the new model. The GR Corolla will be powered by the same turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine as the global GR Yaris. The GR Corolla is expected to debut sometime next year and go on sale as a 2022 model in the U.S. Ever since Toyota debuted the GR Yaris hot hatch and said that it wouldn't be sold in the United States, we've been itching for a version of one that we could buy here. After all, Toyota needs something to compete with the likes of the Honda Civic Type R, Volkswagen Golf R, and Hyundai Veloster N. Good thing Toyota isn't leaving us behind, because we're getting a GR Corolla soon. The company just dropped a teaser image on its Instagram account that give some hints of the new raucous hot hatch. The time indicated on the gauge cluster is G:16, which refers to the G16E-GTS turbocharged three-cylinder engine that's used in the GR Yaris. The 268-hp output of that powerful engine's Japanese version is found on the climate controls in the teaser image. European versions make 268 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and the engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. That's not all. There's even a camouflaged GR Corolla hatchback in the background of the image (we tried to zoom in; you can't see much, sadly).   7. TL:DR – A Singaporean-registered Altis and a Trans cab travel on the fast lane of the causeway, but only the Altis gets apprehended by the Malaysian police. There are no shortcuts in life. Likewise, in recent times, there have been no shortcuts on the causeway. If you’re sick and tired of waiting in the queue, you can always try your luck on the fast lane. You might get away with it, and you might not. Just like these two vehicles in the 43-second video below. What happened? A Trans Cab followed by a red Altis cuts into the car lane from the fast lane of the causeway. The Trans cab successfully merges into the queue, whereas the Altis did not have much luck as three officers eventually surrounded it. Unspoken rule I was very curious as to how the Taxi managed to evade capture. Some of my colleagues mentioned that public transport (buses and taxis) could travel on the fast lane. I even saw some comments that supported this claim. I tried to search online for material that could further support this hypothesis, but I found myself hitting dead ends. No official document from any authoritative body states that taxis are allowed to use the fast lane. So, I’m still stuck with my question of “HOW?” Maybe the comments section can enlighten me. The automaker will stream the unveiling at 9:30 PM EDT (1:30 AM GMT on April 1). Toyota released a brief teaser video and two pictures along with this announcement to build even more excitement for the hot hatch. One of the teaser shots appears to show the GR Corolla's front fender. There's a tall outlet with black, horizontal strakes that seems to be right behind the wheel well. Directing the air from the nose through this piece might help cool the brakes. The GR badge is easily visible next to this aero aid. The other photo seems to be the side sill below the doors. It has "GR-FOUR" embossed into the panel. This is a reference to the sophisticated all-wheel-drive system that Toyota also uses on the GR Yaris. One of the earliest teasers for the GR Corolla revealed several specs about the model. It uses the G16E-GTS 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that also powers the GR Yaris. This powerplant makes 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts), which is what the GR Yaris produces in Japan, versus 257 hp (192 kW) in Europe. Another teaser shows the GR Corolla with a manual gearbox. Toyota also has a prototype of the GR Yaris using an eight-speed automatic. A rumor suggests this transmission might eventually be available in the Corolla hot hatch. There's no indication whether this gearbox would be available at launch. Toyota recently hid a teaser for the GR Corolla in a video promoting the GR86. The plot of the ad is that stuffy execs are reacting to a pitch from the GR team. There's a shot of the Supra and GR86 driving together, and one of the bosses comments there should be a third vehicle in the frame. It cuts to the rear of the hot hatch sitting in a dark store. All of the available info so far indicates that the GR Corolla is coming exclusively as a hatchback. There are no images or even rumors suggesting that a sedan variant is on the way.
  9. There is a reason why drunk-driving is against the law and highly discouraged. The following video explains it all: What Happened? In the wee hours of the morning, at around 4am, a Toyota Corolla was being driven haphazardly along the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE). In the dashcam footage above, the Toyota Corolla swerved left and right for no apparent reason and could not keep within its lane. Moments later, when negotiating a bend, the driver could not handle the turn and collided with the railing of the expressway. And it was not because the car lost traction. Instead, the car simply veered off-course as the driver did not steer the car accordingly. After the collision, the Toyota abruptly stopped in the middle of the road for a couple of seconds before driving off again. The video ends with the Toyota Corolla continuing its journey on the expressway in a hazardous manner that it previously demonstrated. After observing the Toyota Corolla, it is highly likely that the driver is drunk as a skunk or has fallen asleep at the wheel. Which do you think it is - sleepy or drunk? I am just hoping that a couple of traffic police turns up to stop him before he hurts himself or other motorists around him.   10. This has to be one of the most unique, one-of-a-kind accident you would have ever seen before. The aftermath of the accident might even be meme-worthy. Watch it here: What Happened? The accident occurred at around 7am, at Hougang Avenue 1. As the morning traffic started forming at a red light, a BMW 520i driver decided to perform an abrupt lane change from lane 1 (go straight/turn right lane) to lane 2 (go straight-only lane). Despite an oncoming Toyota Corolla approaching, the BMW driver insisted on squeezing through and changing lanes. Unfortunately, the Toyota Corolla driver was either not paying attention, not practising defensive driving, or simply not fully awake. And needless to say, the BMW and Toyota collided with each other. The BMW driver decided to react by swerving to the right for some reason. And as a result, the BMW grazed the side of a Honda Civic that was in front of it. The back-to-back accidents left all 3 cars perfectly aligned in a straight line, entirely blocking off other motorists from passing through. The jam must have been so bad at this junction, considering the morning jam + the jam caused by this accident. And also, can I just point out how bad I feel for the Honda Civic driver, who was patiently waiting at the traffic light but got implicated in this accident?   11. If another motorist gives way to you, the most logical thing to do is show your gratitude towards them with a simple raise of your hand. Well, not for this egoistic Mercedes driver who defies logic. Watch it here: What Happened? A Mercedes A180 decided to perform an abrupt lane change without checking for oncoming traffic in the adjacent lane. As a result, an oncoming Toyota Corolla in the adjacent lane had to brake hard and give way to the Mercedes driver. You would think that after performing such a hazardous manoeuvre, the Mercedes driver would apologise or show some form of gratitude towards the Toyota driver. BUT NO. Instead, the Mercedes driver decides to swerve left and right, to impede and intentionally block the Toyota driver. Along the way, he also activates his windshield wiper to spray water toward the Toyota driver at its rear. TBH, I am freaking puzzled at the Mercedes driver's actions - why on Earth would anyone react like that? This got me thinking if he is a jerk with an ego problem or simply self-entitled?   12. A dump (or dumb) truck travelling on the expressway veers off its lane and ends up clipping a black Toyota Corolla, causing it to lose control and crash. This incident occurred last Friday (Aug 13). In the video, we see a huge yellow truck travelling on the SLE expressway while a black Toyota Corolla is travelling on the left of the truck. As both vehicles enter a bend, the dump truck veers out of its lane to keep left, only for it to end up hitting the side of the Black Corolla. It appears that the Corolla might have been in the truck driver's blind spot, which would explain the heavy vehicle's sudden movement to the left despite the car's presence. The car then swerves to the left, hitting the road barrier, before swerving back onto its own lane. Upon impact with the Toyota Corolla, the truck kept to its right as it follows the black vehicle to a clear spot ahead. Netizens' reactions While most drivers know that it is dangerous to linger or slow down when you're driving in someone's blind spot, the black Toyota Corolla could not speed up due to the lorries in front of it (and the fact that it is entering a bend as well).   13. Some would say that he got instant car-ma for disregarding the rules. In a short clip posted on New Year’s Day, an elderly cyclist boldly crosses a traffic junction when the light is still red. The cyclist then gets a nasty surprise when a white Toyota Corolla crashes into his bicycle. Hopefully, the uncle learns his lesson and will heed the traffic rules from now on. Who is at fault if a driver hits a jaywalking pedestrian? According to the Road Traffic Rules, if a pedestrian crosses any place other than a pedestrian crossing, they shall yield the right of way to vehicles. The same applies to mobility vehicle users, PMD riders and cyclists. However, at any controlled crossing, pedestrians have the precedence to free and uninterrupted passage over the crossing by drivers of vehicles approaching the crossing. It should be noted that this only applies when pedestrians are crossing in the same direction as moving traffic. Pedestrians shall not travel in any other direction unless they can do so without interfering with the lawful movement of traffic. Even though the driver has the right of way, personal injury lawyers have noted that the driver may still be held liable for any bodily injury claim from the pedestrian. It’s akin to that one guilty pleasure Taylor Swift song – a.k.a. Shake It Off – that you’ll immediately skip if you’re in the car with other people, but jam at full volume on your own. As such, it looks like Toyota might be looking to release a spicy GRMN version of its Corolla Touring. Before we start, we’d be remiss not to mention that the Corolla Touring isn’t currently available in the states. However, that shouldn’t subtract from the vehicle's credentials or the fact that a sportier version could be on the way. For the uninitiated, the GRMN callsign translates to Gazoo Racing Meister of Nürburgring. While the GR signifies some of the Japanese automaker’s racing DNA has been injected into the automobile, we can only guess what updates the Corolla will get. According to Spyder7, the exterior will likely include a large-diameter matrix grille to provide optimal cooling performance. Along with the new front fascia, other mods could possibly include an under spoiler, rear spoiler, rear diffuser, and side skirts. While we’d wager the exterior alterations are mostly for aesthetics, things will likely be a bit different under the skin. Under the hood, it will likely sport the same turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-three-cylinder engine from the GR Yaris. And that’s a good thing, because with 257 horsepower (192 kilowatts) on tap, it’s the most powerful three-cylinder engine ever fitted to a production car. Following the same pattern, the new model will likely also receive the GR Yaris’ AWD system. While the Corolla Touring GRMN is expected to debut sometime around September of 2021, let’s wait and see what happens. Should the sporty wagon materialize, we’d wager that enthusiasts would bite your arm off to get behind the wheel.

  17. Need Help! Anyone have issue/problem with Toyota Corolla Altis (2009) starting engine problem immobilizer? I bought this used car last year 2020. I was given 2 keys. One key comes with the remote (Black). Another key no remote in Grey color. I opened the remote cover to check the battery model & cover it back. Then I cannot start the engine. When I used the Grey color key, it can start the engine. Any one knows how to disable the immobilizer or how to register the black key back?

In particular -after 20 years of hybrid leadership and more than 11 million global sales, including over 1.5 million units in Europe- the company is interested to learn from them as to how it can keep improving its hybrids and make them more attractive to new types of customers. For this reason, Toyota has decided to offer its core models with a choice of two hybrid powertrains; one providing the traditional benefits of fuel efficiency and a relaxing drive, the second building on these strengths with greater power and more dynamic driving characteristics. In 2010, the first generation Auris was the first high volume, core Toyota model in Europe to benefit from hybrid drive, and now it will be the first model to offer this choice of hybrid powertrains. The current Auris powertrain line-up consists of five conventional engines and one hybrid powertrain. However, reflecting the brand’s continued focus towards hybrid technology, the new Auris will offer customers just one conventional engine -a 1.2 litre turbo petrol unit- and a choice of 122 hp, 1.8 litre or 180 hp, 2.0 litre hybrid powertrains. The 1.8 litre system fulfils all the requirements that customers have come to expect from a Toyota full hybrid powertrain -silent, intuitive, responsive and self-sufficient EV technology with low cost of ownership, no need for plug-in recharging, offering outstanding fuel economy and low CO2 emissions, and up to 50% all-electric driving on the everyday commute. Whilst continuing to reward customers with all of the above benefits, the 2.0 litre system takes full advantage of the added ride comfort, stability, handling and driving enjoyment inherent in the newly adopted Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform. It will offer drivers an ‘energised drive’, with more power and steering wheel-mounted paddles for a more dynamic, engaging driving experience. TOYOTA NEW GLOBAL ARCHITECTURE (TNGA) Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) represents the foundation for all of Toyota’s future powertrain and vehicle development. It marks a revolution in the way the company designs, engineers and manufactures vehicles, and is integral to the company’s mission to build ever better cars that are more stylish, more enjoyable to drive and even safer. TNGA introduces new, defined guidelines for the positioning of different state-of-the-art components which simplify vehicle design in key areas. The impact is on items that are largely out of sight, so designers still had the freedom to give the new Auris a visually distinctive and individual look with a lower stance and more appealing proportions. The new Auris’ TNGA platform guarantees a more rewarding driving experience thanks to a centre of gravity, multi-link rear suspension, and a more rigid body shell through the use of high strength steel as reinforcement in key areas. All contribute to better handling and stability without compromising ride and comfort. All new TNGA-based vehicles prioritise the highest active and passive safety standards. New Auris is designed to meet the exacting standards of independent crash testing programmes and provide increased safety levels through the sophisticated functions and systems of the latest Toyota Safety Sense technology. DESIGN ‘Our primary goal with the new Auris was to create the most bold and dynamic hatchback on the market, without compromising on interior usability,’ explains Simon Humphries, Executive General Manager, Toyota Global Design. ‘Harnessing the low centre of gravity afforded by the TNGA layout, the vehicle is light and agile in the side view, yet as we move to the rear, the architecture transforms to create a solid, wide and low stance that is absolutely critical to the European market.’ Longer and lower than its predecessor, the new Auris adopts a significantly more dynamic design and more striking frontal styling. Overall length has increased by 40 mm, all of which has been absorbed within a longer wheelbase. Importantly, the overall height of the new hatchback has been reduced by some 25 mm, whilst the cowl height of the vehicle is a significant 47 mm lower than that of the current model. The result is a sleeker shape and a more attractive, lower bonnet, which in turn improves safety by giving the driver a clearer forward view. The new frontal styling is a further evolution of Toyota’s Under Priority Catamaran and Keen Look design philosophies. Beneath the curved front edge of a flatter, clamshell bonnet, the narrow upper grille incorporates a central Toyota logo and, at its extremities, new, all-LED headlamp clusters with integral Daytime Running Lights (DRL). The surround to the large, trapezoidal lower grille projects powerfully forward of the bonnet front edge and upper grille in a pronounced step, and is less pointed and more vertical than before, resulting in a reduction to the vehicle’s front overhang of some 20 mm. The sides of the grille surround form a trademark, catamaran hull shape at the front corners of the new Auris, emphasising the vehicle’s 30 mm increase in width, and its broad, sporting stance. Beneath the grille, the surround splits to clearly define the lip of a front spoiler, the edges of which are angled upwards to create a zone between the spoiler and the catamaran hull form, in which are housed LED foglamps. The grille mesh itself is of a new design, which is more articulate and refined than the classic honeycomb finish. The new rear design is more rounded than before in plan form, strengthening the visual relationship between the front and rear of the vehicle. An increase in rear windscreen rake of some 14 degrees and the muscular hip adopted above the rear wheel arch combine to make the overall appearance of the vehicle rear more compact, despite an increase in rear overhang of 20 mm. A roof spoiler is fitted, as standard, on all model grades. The rear all-LED lamp clusters feature light guides designed to emphasise the new Auris’ wide, planted rear stance. And the rear bumper styling echoes the frontal Under Priority Catamaran design; a thin lower lip here incorporating twin chrome inserts. The new Auris’ dynamic design is further emphasised through an optional bi-tone colour scheme, which combines the body colour with a black finish to the roof and all glazing pillars. TLDR: New Corolla hatchback replacing the Auris that was sold here briefly by BM with a 1.6 until new COE Cat A had power cap. Uses same TNGA platform as new Prius for lower CG, better handling etc. In the UK, uses the same 1.2 turbo as outgoing Auris/Current CHR, 1.8 hybrid (current CHR/Prius) and NEW 2.0 180hp hybrid. As both 1.8/2.0 hybrid are Cat B, let's see if BM brings which one in. 1.2 turbo is certain if CHR turbo sells well. Can't wait for sedan and JDM hatch (this one is made in UK)

  22. After the global debut of the all new Corolla sedan in China, Toyota has now released information on the European-spec model. Joining the sedan will be the existing hatchback and wagon body styles. Looking similar to what the Chinese are getting, the Europeans have the luxury of opting for a hybrid version of the sedan. The Corolla will be getting the similar 1.8-litre hybrid powertrain found in the Prius, with total output standing at 120bhp. The car will be able to achieve 23.4km/L on the WLTP test cycle. Buyers who don't want the hybrid variant can opt for the naturally-aspirated 1.6-litre petrol four that is being used in the current generation. Still paired to a CVT transmission, the 130bhp sedan will be able to do 16.3km/L on the WTLP cycle. Elsewhere, the new car sits on a new TNGA GA-C platform that results in a lower center of gravity plus a 60% increase in body rigidity. Combined with a standard multi-link suspension on all models, Toyota says the new car handles better than before. Like most new cars, the Corolla will come loaded with many safety tech like a Pre-Collision System with pedestrian and cyclists detection, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Alert with steering assist, Road Sign Assist, and Automatic High Beam. It will also have a Lane Trace Assist which will help steer the car within its lane. Inside the car will also have features like wireless phone charging, an 8-inch touchscreen-based infotainment system, 7-inch digital instrument panel, and 10-inch head-up display. Based on history, it is unlikely Singaporeans will get the European-built Corolla seen here. However, this news serves as a good preview of what the next Corolla Altis will look like when it arrives on our sunny island.
  23. Good news, touring car fans – the new Toyota Corolla will compete in next year’s British Touring Car Championship. Set to make its debut as the road car goes on sale next spring, the racing Corolla will be prepared and run by Speedworks Motorsport, one of the BTCC’s more successful independent teams. Winner of the last two Independent Team trophies, its partnership with Toyota (and rebrand to “Team Toyota GB with Speedworks Motorsport”) means it will now compete with the series’ other manufacturer-backed teams for the overall title. The Corolla will be driven by 25-year-old Tom Ingram, a two-time Independent Champion who’s raced for Speedworks since his series debut in 2014. Last year he came just 12 points short of claiming the overall driver’s title, which was won by Colin Turkington. The road-car will only be offered with hybrid powertrains, but the race car will use a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder in line with the BTCC’s regulations. Far as touring car conversions go, the Corolla’s transmogrification from road car to race car looks to have gone pretty well. Some cars suit big wings and flared arches better than others, of course.   24. Hi guys, My car had this error while driving on MCE on tuesday, I stopped my car at the side of the exp to restart the car but still the same. I decided to continue the journey as it did not affect my car driving. Finally reached my destination and open up the hood. Found one of the battery wire connector slightly loosen and tightened the screw. Tried to restart the car and problem went away but came back after a minute later. I decided to ignore it. It hasnt come back since and I drove the car the past two days without this error. Any thoughts what could cause this?
