  1. With the Yaris GRMN hot hatch all sold out and the new generation Corolla hatch just launched, a Corolla hot hatch is what Toyota should build. And it seems like there is a chance of the Japanese company building a rival for the Volkswagen Golf GTI. In an article published by Drive, the brand’s Chief Engineer, Yasushi Ueda, said that such a car could adopt a hybrid powertrain. That said, there are several powertrain options when it comes to a potential compact hot hatch model, everything has not been decided at the moment. If this choice of powertrain wer comes true, the car could use a petrol internal combustion engine to power the front wheels, whereas the rear axle would be motivated by an electric motor. The Camry Hybrid has such a hybrid powertrain and has a combined output of 176bhp thanks to its 2.5-litre engine and electric motor.
  2. Hi, I'm driving a Toyota Altis Elegance 2008 model ZRE141R with Dual VVTI. I have been having acceleration issue since I bought my car around a year ago. Found out that my car rims were 17 inch {225/45/17}. Went to Borneo Motors to try to resolve it and seems like they found my car in good condition. They recommended me to downgrade back to original rims which is 15 inch. I noticed the acceleration issue occurred after I changed from PS3 tire to Yokohama Blue Earth AE50. I have already tried decarbonizing, engine cleaning and throttle valve cleaning but seems the issue resurface after a while again. This issue was slightly improved after filling 2 tanks of V power consecutively but I think in the long run it wouldnt solve this problem. I am thinking of a few options. 1) Downgrade back to 15 inch tires which mostly likely restore some power back to the car. 2) Downgrade back to 16 inch. 3) Keep my 17 inch rims, instead change tires to Michelin PS4S Or Primacy to improve pickup 4) Do ECU Reflashing to try change and tune the engine to correct the problem. The previous owner installed a voltage stabiliser which I am not sure why, so I'm not sure if this is related. Any advices from my experienced Bros?
  3. Hi, Anyone know if these front suspension parts for 2009 Japan built corolla are compatible with 2008 Thai built corolla sold here in Singapore. Thanks
  4. Hi All, Anyone knows where I could get those Fielder parts for rear bumper & rear right break light cover please?
  5. Toyota is commemorating the Corolla's 50th Anniversary with a special edition Axio. The car will go on sale in Japan on 1st of September and will be limited to just 500 units. As compared to the regular models, the Toyota Corolla Axio Hybrid G “50 Limited” will have LED headlights, a new grill, side skirts, 16-inch alloy wheels, smoked LED taillights, a black interior trim and red sport seats. On the topic of seats, the seat backs will have a special embroidery that represents the origin of the Corolla name which means “crown of flowers” in Latin. Powertrain wise, it runs the same 1.5 -itre petrol engine that is mated to an electric motor as the regular Axio hybrid. Paired with a CVT gearbox, it has a combined output of 98bhp. The “50 Limited” is only available in either White Pearl Crystal Shine or Black Mica.
  6. Heard from some ALTIS owner they do not know they are buying a made-in-thailand car ...
  7. The best selling model in Toyota's lineup has received some upgrades for its 2017 facelift and here's a sneak peak at how it will look like. The 11th generation of the Corolla is offered in approximately 150 countries all over the world and accounts for 20 percent of Toyota's global sales. What's new for this slight facelift include a new bumper and a new sleeker grille that’s flanked by redesigned headlamps. At the rear, the Corolla Altis sports a new pair of LED tail lights. New 16-inch and 17-inch wheels wrap up the cosmetic changes on the outside. Inside, the car gets a significant update in terms of safety. European bound cars are set to get Toyota's Safety Sense system, with Lane Departure Alert, Pre-Collision System, Road Sign Assist and Automatic High Beam all included as standard equipment. Whether we will get these features or not remains to be seen. Mechanically, there should not be any change to the 1.6-litre engine and the CVT automatic gearbox.
  8. Focus2move, a statistics reporting company in the automotive sector, has revealed the world's best selling car so far in 2016. And its the Toyota Corolla. With 634,298 units delivered in the first six months of the year, the Japanese car tops the chart even though its sales was down 1.2 percent from the previous period. Second in that list belongs to the Volkswagen Golf which garnered 500,630 sales, and surprisingly, it had a 1.8 percent increase in sales despite the emissions scandal that happened months ago. Meanwhile, Ford's F-Series trucks took third place with 478,394 units delivered while its Focus sits at the fourth place with 367,479 units. Fifth goes to the Hyundai Elantra, with 363,490 deliveries. The car with the highest jump belongs to the Hyundai Tuscon which climbed 949 spots to the 16th place with its 285,060 sales, a massive 202.4 percent increase in popularity, likely due to its recent introduction of the all-new generation model.
  9. We all know Toyota's reliability is top notch and most will easily outlast our 10-year COE cycle. Don't believe? Here's one very tough Toyota Corolla Altis that can still amazingly drive despite the huge amount of damage done to the car. Spotted on the roads of Pakistan by another motorist, the car appears to have crashed sideways into a pole or a tree. We wonder why the owner did not bother towing it to the scrapyard... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0QtcvpDMwE
  10. Been looking at the 2 choices for replacement. Seems 1.8 Civic can be cheaper than the 1.6 Corolla! Any issues that I need to be aware for the Corolla? What are its known problems? I heard the aircon not strong for Altis?
  11. Thats how we lost our soul ..... yahoo news : Global Price Comparison: The Toyota Corolla Global Price Index Singapore - Earlier in March it was reported in The Economist that Singapore is the most expensive city in the world. The news didn't exactly come as a big surprise, with both property prices and car prices rising even further in 2013, the latter as a result of high Certificate of Entitlement (COE) prices and increased Additional Registration Fee (tax) on expensive cars. But just how much more costly is it to own a car in Singapore? The Economist has had its own Big Mac Index around for some time now, so we decided to scour the Internet and assemble our own automotive version. The car we used was a natural choice: The world's best-selling nameplate, with more than 40-million units shifted globally, and the closest thing to an automotive white good there is - the Toyota Corolla Altis. With the launch of the new model globally, and it's now the same model sold everywhere else, it's the perfect choice for a study like this. Earlier in the year another Yahoo story did something broadly similar, but our Toyota Corolla Global Price Index (TCGPI) compares the same good across borders with a much wider scope. It's enough to buy you a lovely Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG 4MATIC, or half of an SLS AMG Coupe, in the cheapest market, the USA. read more, link: https://sg.news.yahoo.com/global-price-comparison-toyota-corolla-171720950.html
  12. Toyota recently launched their 11th generation Corolla Altis and it is a pretty well-resolved car. Since this 1.6-litre sedan category is such a hotly-contested segment, we thought it would be nice to have a second opinion of the Corolla Altis comparing with some of its closest rivals… Kia Forte K3 1.6 First up, our recent Sedan of the Year winner, the Forte K3. Despite being launched last year, the car still looks pretty darn fresh. No surprises given that the Koreans have been producing cars that are almost guaranteed to look good without burning a big hole in your wallet. At press time, it is almost 10 grand lesser than the rest while being the most well equipped. It also felt like it had the most room among the others. However, all is not that well when you start driving. Steering, while being the sharpest and most direct, feels slightly artificial. I wasn't too sure I liked the variable steering weight system also as I found myself changing between ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ every now and then. I couldn't find fault with the ride and grip level were as good as the rest. Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI DSG Personally, I have always found the Jetta to be a handsome car. So it took me by surprise when I thought it didn’t look as sharp as it had always been to me when we parked the cars side by side. Having sampled the Jetta over quite a few miles couple of years ago, it felt good to be back behind the wheel of one. The chassis feels stable, steering reassuring and engine strong. Just like how I remembered. However, unlike then, age has ruthlessly caught up and the interior is starting to feel a little bland as compared to the other two. Not having much equipment on board hurts its scorecard too. Glad to report interior space is more than adequate and overall, the car feels a notch better in quality than the rest. Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 The Corolla Altis. I’m sure most people should have driven or sat in one at least once in their lifetime. I spent most of my teenage years in one and not once did it break down. It was never the fastest nor the best-looking but it was loyal and dependable. Coming to the latest one, I must say Toyota has definitely upped its game and gave it a great looking face. I would even go as far as saying the Toyota is the most handsome one here. Moving inside, the car has grown quite abit and build quality is much improved. Equipment levels are acceptable too. On the move, the Toyota is the quietest and feels lively. Comfort level is definitely on par or better compared with the rest in this segment. Its new Super Continuously Variable Transmission with Intelligence is also worth commending for not being like most whiny CVTs in lesser cars. 13. After much anticipation, the 11th generation of the US Corolla has been unveiled. The Corolla is previewed by the Furia concept presented at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. Judging from history, the next Corolla Altis that we will be getting will be styled very closely to the US version. Measuring 4,650mm by 1,776mm by 1,455mm (L x W x H), the new Corolla is 99mm longer, 16mm wider and 10mm lower than its predecessor. The larger dimensions also translate to more interior space as rear seat room improved by 75mm. Speaking of the car's interior, the dashboard layout is similar to the Auris hatchback, which in turn reminds me of the Toyota Taxis in the 80s due to the 'upright' design. For the US market, two 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engines are available - one producing 132bhp (Dual VVT-i) while the other churns out 140bhp (Valvematic). Various gearboxes are available depending on trim level. They include a six-speed manual, CVTi-S (continuously variable transmission intelligent-shift) and a dinosaur-age four-speed automatic. For Singapore, my hunch is that the current Altis' 1.6-litre Dual VVT-i, four-speed automatic combination will be carried over unchanged to the new Altis. Just look at what happened to the newly-introduced Vios. Within hours after the US-market Corolla is launched, Toyota released photos of the European version of the new model. It sports a different head lights, grille and tail lights. Overall, the US version looks sportier while its European counterpart projects a more luxurious outlook. 2014 European Corolla
  14. Toyota has released more details on the all new Corolla destined for the European market. Not only does the car look more sophisticated than the current model, it grew in all dimensions with a measurement of 4,620mm by 1,775mm by 1,465mm (L x W x H). The car is longer than the all new Mazda 3 sedan. The Euro-spec Corolla will be available with one diesel and four petrol engines. The 1.4-litre turbo diesel develops 89bhp with a peak torque of 205Nm. Transmission option for the oil-burner include a six-speed manual gearbox or a six-speed Multi-Mode transmission. The entry-level gasoline engine is a 1.33-litre Dual-VVT-I which generates 98bhp and 128Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. There are two 1.6-litre engines available for the Europe market – a Dual VVT-I unit with 120bhp and 154Nm of torque as well as a Valvematic version with 130bhp and 160Nm of torque. The lower-powered 1.6-litre comes with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional Multidrive S (CVT) transmission. The range-topper is a 1.8-litre Dual VVT-I unit with 138bhp and 173Nm of torque. The engine is mated exclusively to the Multidrive S transmission. Should we be concerned about the European Corolla? Yes we should, as sources indicate that the Australian and Asean Corolla share the same version as Europe.
  15. If you can't sleep at night, perhaps picturing of an image of the current Corolla Altis in your mind might help. This is how "interesting" the styling of the car is. However, this is set to change hopefully. Bill Fay, general manager for Toyota and Scion brands in the U.S., tells Ward's Auto that the Corolla will undergo an even more dramatic makeover than the recently launched Toyota Avalon. It appears that the Japanese giant has finally awoken. Toyota's Corolla has been compared to a washing machine, that is simple, reliable, but not something that stirs any sort of emotion. Rival cars such as the Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra and Mazda 3 could have forced the Toyota designers to perhaps even throw away their old drawing board. From far, the current 10th generation Corolla Altis does not look much different from its previous generation especially from the rear view. The eleventh generation of the JDM version of the Corolla, the Axio, went on sale in Japan in May 2012. I believe it would not be long before we see what Toyota has up its sleeve for the international markets. Apart from a radically new design, the Corolla would need a radically new drivetrain for it to keep up with the competition. First and foremost, the 4-speed automatic gearbox has to be expelled from the engine compartment.
  16. After revealing a teaser shot of the taillight combination of the all new Corolla, Toyota has now released two fresh crops of the latest iteration of the best selling car in the world. One of the photos shows the sedan's lower grille and fog lamp assembly. The shape of the lower grille somewhat reminds me of the signature Audi grille. The second photo shows the Toyota logo on the hood. In addition to the new photos, Toyota has released a video, featuring Toyota Vice President of Marketing, Jack Hollis. The cheerful executive wants the viewers to keep coming back for more details of the new Corolla as the launch date of 6th June draws nearer. He claims that the new model will have a new styling and attitude. The next generation Corolla is previewed by the Furia Concept that was displayed at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show in January this year. Click for the 2014 Corolla introduction video.
  17. Toyota has revealed the Corolla Furia concept at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show. Like the Auris, the Furia concept sports the latest corporate face of the Japanese brand. According to a statement on the Furia concept, Toyota states that it builds on the brand's product development priority to develop more dramatic, expressively designed vehicles. Toyota did not reveal any details on the concept's horsepower, torque and handling capabilities. The concept measures 4,620mm long by 1,805mm wide by 1,425mm tall. If this is an indication of the production version, the next corolla would have grown 80mm longer, 45mm wider yet sits 40mm lower - adopting a sportier stance. The tail light, which appears to borrow styling cue from the Kia Optima, and the integrated exhaust pipes gives the rear a sporty look. The US Corolla and the ASEAN version that we are getting have similar bodywork. If you feel that styling of the current 10th generation Corolla Altis is too conservative for your liking, the 11th generation might change that thought.
  18. Recently, we've been getting some teaser images from the Japanese automaker Toyota for its upcoming 2013 model year Corolla in New Zealand. Well, for those of you asking yourselves how much longer you are supposed to wait to see the whole thing, worry no more as your wait is about to be over. Toyota has released quite a few commercials unveiling the latest generation of its Corolla lineups. However, if you happen to keep a pet cat, you may want to consider putting your cat away from the car. You'll definitely find out the reason as soon as you have watched the accompanying videos. In these videos, there's this Persian pet cat which just can't seem to get enough of the comfort that the all new 2013 Toyota Corolla (NZ) is capable of offering. As a result, it keeps wanting more and more to be inside the car over and over again. Funny thing is, the cat is really willing to do whatever it takes just in order to be taken by its owner to the vet in the car it just seems to love so much. Oh, how cute
  19. Toyota has released the first teaser shot of the 2014 Toyota Corolla. The next generation Corolla is previewed by the Furia Concept that was displayed at the 2013 Detroit Motor Show in January. The official premiere of the Eleventh iteration Corolla is scheduled to take place on 6th June in California. Toyota wants us to
  20. I was looking at the price list for Toyota but can't the Corolla Altis listed any more. Is it going to be replaced by the Auris? Or BM is just waiting for the new 2014 Altis?
  21. Just wanna get some feedback from any bros who have tried the new Toyota Corolla Altis. All new exterior and interior seems good. Any other feedback?
  22. This is probably one of the more important head to head comparisons for this year as two of our mid-size sedan favourites come together for another round of battle. With sedans being Singaporeans' favourite body style, we decide which is the better car to own. With only 3bhp separating both of them, you would expect both to have similar performance. This was not the case as the Altis felt slightly livelier and has a better appetite for revs. However, the Mazda3 has a smoother powerplant and when paired with the responsive six-speed automatic, it still offers decent pace for most. While CVT gearboxes are known to 'slip' when asked to accelerate hard, the Altis's new Super CVT-i gearbox minimises the effect with good results. When it comes to the twisties, the Mazda3 is the clear victor with a nicely judged ride and a direct steering. The Altis fights back with better insulation when it comes to cruising at highway speeds. While not as agile as the Mazda3, the Altis is in a totally different league as compared to its predecessor, which had too cushy a ride. Inside, the Mazda3 scores again with its better fit and finish. Its impressive equipment, like for example, the Active Driving Display, the MZD Connect touchscreen system and its Commander Control knob elevates it into a higher class. However, the Altis still triumphs in terms of overall space. So which one is the better car? Read our full review to find out.
  23. back to 7 to 8 years ago, Singapore roads were full of Corolla XLI (before of Altis the model), thinking to change my 10 years picanto to this model, because cannot afford new car's COE, but search on sgcarmart, "zero" result, why??
  24. [extract] With its dynamic good looks and handling prowess, the Ford Focus is aiming to be the international best seller for year 2012. According to Ford, the brand sold 522,821 Focus models worldwide during the first seven months of this year. This puts it ahead of the Toyota Corolla and the Volkswagen Golf in terms of global sales. According to Aaron Bragman, an automotive industry analyst for IHS Global Insight, the Focus has several advantages over the perennial best-seller, the Corolla. The offering from the Blue Oval brand is newer, features better handling and styling, has superior technology and a much nicer interior than the Corolla.
  25. Hi, Anyone test-driven the Toyota-Corolla Altis 1.6 launched last weekend? Any comments please... Thanks
