  1. I saw in another thread which I can't find that you could lease an Elantra for S$576 per month or something near that. I went to Hyundai in Alexander RD and asked then the leasing price and was told S$1000 plus. I was also at the car show in Expo today where the lease cost for the Elantra was given as S$1000 plus. I was interested in the price of S$576 so if anyone can confirm or otherwise or point me to the thread I'd appreciate it.
  2. Earlier this week, it was reported on sgcarmart.com that the all new Elantra will be revealed soon and Hyundai even showed us a teaser of the car. Called the Avante AD in its home market, shots of the Korean Domestic Market (KDM) model has surfaced on some Korean websites before the official reveal of the car. Judging from the photos, the new generation of the Elantra borrows plenty of styling cues from the Genesis luxury sedan on both the outside and the inside. The compact sedan is said to ride on an improved platform with a re-tuned suspension. Powertrains options are still unknown at this moment but there are rumors of it using either a 1.6-litre or a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine which will be paired up with a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox.
  3. Wah damn nice le! Is it low sales thats y sell to cab??
  4. I recently had a go in the 2012 Hyundai Elantra 1.8 over in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia recently. This is a model that isn't being sold over in Singapore due to the COE price structure but it does tell me a whole lot of things about this very established Korean brand and how far the Koreans have moved forward in terms of car design and technology. About ten years ago I would have tried my very best not to want to drive one but I suppose times have changed as this new Elantra is actually quite accomplished. The last Elantra I drove was the early to mid-2000s third generation model pictured above. This car was pretty good if you wanted to be invisible. It did what it's supposed to do and nothing else. The later fourth generation one tried to be a little bit more funky with some coke bottle styling but it still looked like a car for Mr. & Mrs Boring As Hell. Not any more as this current model looks and feels good. I think this car looks like what the new Honda Civic should have been like instead of what Honda is giving us. The Hyundai Elantra looks better than the Civic which has basically morphed from a young and vibrant car into something a previous Hyundai Elantra buyer would buy. The world has basically turned a little topsy turvy these days. Getting in the 1.8 Elantra is pretty much like getting in the 1.6 version of it (You can read about the 1.6 model here). The only difference is the addition of a sunroof and some red stitching on the seats. The sunroof in my opinion takes a bit of headroom but it still feels like it has more of that than the larger Kia Optima 5 which I sat in recently. This is good for a small family sedan even with that rakish roofline. I however felt that the seats (which are electrically adjustable) could have been set a little lower as I still felt perched a little higher than I would have liked. Aside from that the fit and finish of the interior is good for its class. It isn't as accomplished as a Volkswagen Golf TSI, but it is better than what was offered before. Now when it came to driving the darn thing the 1.8 Elantra isn't something that is as special as it looks. It may have 130hp and 178Nm torque but the normally aspirated 4 cylinder engine needs revs to move even if its coupled to a very smooth shifting 6 speed automatic (without any pedal shifters and only a '+' and '-' to use on the shifter). The problem (which is similar to the 1.6) is that the engine gets pretty vocal at high revs. The engine isn't some sweet sounding Honda VTEC or a Subaru Boxer, hence the complaint I am making here as it makes all the growls and noises but there isn't much speed to the equation. I suppose not much is lost if one bought the 1.6liter version over this model. The ride on 17inch tyres seemed a little busy but the handling isn't as good as its sporty looks. It it isn't that much fun to chuck around as the steering lacks feel and seems to be low geared. You may need to work on the steering wheel more to place the car where you want it to be. The slippery Nappa leather seats aren't as supportive and it could do with more support in the thigh area. Throw the car into a corner or make last minute lane changes and you may find yourself making more steering inputs than you thought necessary. And while doing that you have to be holding on to the steering wheel hard as the seats aren't that good in supporting you while you're trying to be a weekend warrior. The Elantra 1.8 does not seem to enjoy getting flung into corners as much as, say a FD model Honda Civic 1.8 or a Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0GT. It is competent, with traction control and all that, but it isn't something that could be called fun. I have to conclude with the fact that the Koreans have made great progress (if you intend to use this car as transport and not as a sporty set of wheels). This seems to have started with Kia coming out with the Forte and it hasn't faltered. Although I have to complain (albeit a small tiny complaint) that the Hyundai Elantra's glovebox is small and if you open it you may hit your passenger's knees or that your passenger's knees may get in the way of it opening fully. Not many Japanese or European cars have these sort of quibbles, but it does tell you that the Koreans still have only a tiny bit of catching up to do for now.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iiYKjf8lXA8 Jetta is surprisingly last 1. Focus 2. Mazda3 3. Elantra 4. Cruze 5. Jetta
  6. My relative just got license at 3rd attempt, after celebration switched mnid to car market, wants new car instead of 2nd hand, now narrow to 2, 1. Altis 1.6, $95,488, 122bhp/145Nm 4-speed (A) 2. Elantra 1.6, $91,999, 130bhp/156Nm 6-speed (A) In your valuable option??
  7. Hi, welcome opinion and comment on 1.6cc with budget below 120K. Looking at Elantra and Sylphy at this moment (boot spacious and good rear sitting)
  8. [extract] Hyundai has unveiled the all new Elantra Coupe at the 2012 Chicago Autoshow. Basically an Elantra sedan minus away two doors, Hyundai hopes to attract younger buyers who want a sporty car and at the same time do not wish to burn a hole in the wallet. The formula was proven to be highly successful in the Kia Koup, which is a two door version of the Kia Forte sedan. The Elantra Coupe is powered by the same 1.8-liter Nu four-cylinder engine with 148 hp and 131 lb-ft of torque found in the Elantra sedan. The car
  9. Hyundai has been very busy lately as it progresses through round two of its 24/7 product renewal program. Just days after unveiling the new Accent/Verna in Beijing, Hyundai has revealed its next generation Elantra/Avante at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea. Like the smaller Accent, the Elantra has picked up the "fluidic sculpture" styling cues of its big brother the Sonata. By virtue of its larger size, the Elantra retains more of the sleeker profile of the Sonata and doesn't look as stubby as the Accent. Like the Sonata, the new Elantra gets a direct injected inline-four, in this case a 1.6-liter based on the Gamma engine family. For the Elantra the GDI 1.6 generates 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. In combination with a new six-speed automatic transmission, the Elantra should get about 10 percent better fuel economy. The Avante will go on sale in South Korea in the second half of this year and we'd expect to see it state-side with Elantra badges early in 2011. No word yet on whether we will get a hybrid version of the new Elantra.
  10. The new Hyundai Elantra was only released worldwide less than one year ago. It is a good-looking mid-sized four-door sedan if you were to compare it with other Asian models from the same category. Sometime early this year, there have been reports that Hyundai will be releasing a coupe version of the current-generation Elantra. Hyundai dismissed those reports and denied any of it. But spy shots of an Elantra Coupe test car have surfaced in the World Wide Web. Somehow, it is rather confirmed that Hyundai is releasing a coupe version of the Elantra and judging from the pictures, we might see it real soon. The picture shows a heavily camouflaged car, most of the exterior is covered. It is clear that the car
  11. My ride is the Elantra 2011 and I have encountered an issue when starting the engine. When I tried to start the engine, the interior meter lights and the Car Entertainment system turned on for a split second before going off again and the engine failed to start. The engine will not start when I tried to start it, throughout this time the Car Entertainment system and meter lights did not turn on. All of this is resolved when I open the car door and closed it, and everything works fine. So far I encountered this issue 3 times in the past 2 weeks. And each time it happens, I have to reprogram my settings again. Any Elantra owners out there encountered this issue?
  12. COE going to 10 years, 2nd hand car market also quite ex even if COE sky high now, but still can find some affordable models in new car market, narrow down to above mentioned 3 models, doing some homework prior to negotiation my major concern as: 1. Power 2. FC 3. Price 4. interior space regardless: Make, exterior look etc kindly advise
  13. 2011 Hyunda Elantra aka Avante Spy Shot: The first clear shots of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra's interior have appeared on Korean web forums. These pictures show a completely undisguised dashboard whose design inspiration comes from the new Tucson and 2011 Sonata sedan. Two tone inserts and a redesigned centre console are of a higher class and quality. Engines are still unknown but it's expected that the entry-level model will be a 1.6-litre four cylinder direct injection while a more powerful 2.0-litre Theta also beckons. Rivals are now sporting potent turbo diesels and the Elantra might just sneak in the new 2.0-litre R diesel worth over 400Nm mainly for European markets. A hybrid is also being whispered about. The 2011 Elantra might start appearing at US auto shows during the second half of the 2010. Looks like this is going to be Hyundai Interior signature liao..... Source: Worldcarfans
  14. Who have the latest price list so that we can compare apple to apple? I think both is about 90K. 90K for Elantra comes with 6 air bags and sun roof, dual zone climate control air con, driver electric seat, factory fitted reverse camera, cruise control Your view please.
  15. A Korean car forum member has captured undisguised images of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra. Featuring a "fluidic sculpture" design, the Elantra is virtually identical to the 2011 Sonata. Both cars have four-door coupe styling, sweptback headlights, a swoopy grille, and rearview mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. The only major difference is a shortened wheelbase. Inside, the Elantra features a classy dashboard with metal accents and black trim. Other highlights include a leather-trimmed steering wheel, two huge instrument pods, and angular door pulls. While details are limited, engine options will likely include a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 198 hp (148 kW / 201 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque.
  16. This is a further update to my earlier post on the all new Hyundai Elantra. Now, we have the first clear images of the completed interior of the brand's popular compact offering. Hyundai has ditched the conservative design of the current Elantra in favor of a rather radical and polarizing one, not unlike the cabin designs seen in the new Sonata and Tuscon. It takes the instrument cluster layout from the Tucson crossover and the steering-wheel design from the new Sonata, while centre console is a mixture of both. Although it is not an all-new design, I find it quite refreshing especially when compared to the more conservative cockpit of the Toyota Corolla. I also like the design of the interior door handle, which looks classy and stylish. However, I find the gearbox console a bit of an eye sore. It's oversized in my opinion and looked rather squarish. Here's another image of the interior, taken from the driver's door angle. The contour of the dashboard at the passenger side reminds me of the current Civic, which projects an airy sensation. The sales date has not been confirmed for the 2011 Elantra. However, sources report that the launch date is tentatively scheduled for July of 2010.
  17. Looks like a good looker. http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightline/2009...ai-elantra.html

  19. In JD Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) 2009, - Hyundai is 4th overall with 95 problems per 100 vehicles, beating Honda, Toyota & Mercedes-Benz - Hyundai Elantra, badged as Avante in Singapore market, Tops Compact Car Segment, beating Honda Civic. - Hyundai Genesis "perform(s) considerably better than their respective segment averages". See link *This post is to brace yourselves for the upcoming Komoco advertisements bragging about these awards.
  20. Hi, Need your advice on this. I'm intending to do away with a '96 Hyundai Elantra. It has 1 year left and I'm wondering which would be a better deal for me. 1) To deregister it (But I dont want the rebate, I want CASH!) 2) To sell it to 2nd hand car dealer (What are the things to look out for. Got reports of CON Cases by car dealers). Await your valuable advice. Thanks!!
  21. Komoco Motors has been very agressive in its marketing efforts recently, but the question is how long will it take for sales figures of the the Elantra to overtake the Corolla? Or will it ever become a reality?
  22. Just bought this 2001 car recently, din really see any on the roads. Mine's a 5 door manual version. anyone still owns this? would like to check the FC currently, mine's doing about 10km/l (light footed driving below legal speed limits 90% of the time) which seems quite bad for a manual car... any comments?
  23. For all your viewing pleasure.
  24. 2003 Hyundai Elantra - Elantra Quick Change - Those designers at Hyundai just don't know when to stop. They've come up with another new Elantra, and these are the first official pictures of it. Unveiled in Korea two weeks ago, the car - badged Avante in its home market - will be exported worldwide later this year, even though UK buyers are only just getting used to the current model. As a result of this latest facelift, both the four-door saloon and the hatch have increased in size. In an attempt to give the Elantra a sportier look, there are new lights front and rear, reworked bumpers, a revamped radiator grille and a boot spoiler. Inside, there's revised seat upholstery, larger instrument gauges, an LED trip computer and more storage areas. The engine range for the UK is not likely to change, with 1.6 and 2.0-litre powerplants on offer. Variable-valve timing technology - offering better acceleration and economy plus lower emissions - will be an option. And, best of all, prices aren't likely to change, with the car costing from
