  1. hi all..jus wondering if its necessray for cars to do up servicing every 10k or so? my bro's drive abt 80+k liao going hit 90 soon..wondering if it can last till maybe 95k then do servicing, will it cost the car to be laggy? cause they usually service back at the A.D so its abit more costly then outside..any bros comments?
  2. Recently read up a lot of complains on bad driving , most of them come from the same problem , the jokers forget the rules and regulations and come out with their own rules and right of ways. Do you think it is a viable option that our traffic police make it a compulsory thing for people to attend a renewal driving test every 5 years?
  3. LTA first implemented the Electronic Road Pricing system back in September of 1998 as a means of curbing increasing traffic in the city area. Ok, if I pretended to be a little naive, I could almost believe that they were genuinely implementing the system to aid in traffic flow. The revenue generating aspect of the system was just a fringe benefit. That was 12 years ago. Some how I get the feeling that the ERP has slowly shifted into its primary purpose over the years. These days, it's more of a revenue generating instrument for the government than a traffic regulating system. Why do I say that? Well, while I was on my way home last night from Suntec, I took the Northbound CTE towards Ang Mo Kio to get home. At the time when I spotted the ERP gantry (the one between PIE and Braddell exit), it was already 9:30pm. It was quite ridiculous to me that the gantry's 'In Operation' sign was still on and it was stated that it'll be on till 10pm. What I don't get is, after a whole day of charging people for going into the city area, is it really necessary to charge them a second time on the way out as well? No matter what LTA says, they're just fattening up their coffers. Even if the intention was to regulate traffic leaving town, is it necessary to keep the ERP on till 10pm? Seriously? That's not the only example. On 7 April 2008, LTA began operating their shiny new gantry at the entrance to the Toa Payoh residential estate. It is located right smack at the entrance with no escape for anyone coming off Braddell Road. Now, why would you need to put a gantry at the entrance to a residential area? To 'regulate' traffic? I don't think so. Why else would they plant one of those gantries at a residential area then? Well, I'll leave that to your imagination. What's next? Place a gantry at the lift lobby of every HDB? Have you ever wondered why the ERP was so easily implemented upon the local people? When Hong Kong tried to implement the same system, the territory's inhabitants vehemently opposed it. The government had no choice but to back down and were forced to shelve the plans. Unfortunately, unlike the people in the territory, the docility of our population is unmatched anywhere else. When the government introduces a policy that the population doesn't agree with, we'll just grumble. Like MM Lee once said in an interview, "Singaporeans are champion grumblers". But that's about all we do. Due to that, the ERP system will only grow more numerous with time. Until there's a cohesive effort to object the placement of more gantries, all we can do is grumble. Lest the government invokes the Internal Security Act. Sigh... Here's a glimpse into the future that awaits us...a future that isn't too far from reality at all... PRESENT The FUTURE This picture here takes the cake...hahaha
  4. If there's a silver lining in the rash of unintended acceleration claims that have popped up against Toyota as of late, it's that manufacturers from around the world are beginning to think about incorporating brake override systems in their products. General Motors has just announced that all of its vehicles with automatic transmissions and electronic throttle control will boast an "enhanced smart pedal" by 2012. Essentially, the unit will reduce engine power in the event that both the accelerator and brake pedals are depressed simultaneously.

  15. July 21, 2008 1,000 S'poreans give up citizenship each year AN AVERAGE of about 1,000 Singapore gave up their citizenship each year in the last three years, said Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng on Monday. The reasons they renounced their Singapore citizenship ranged from marriage to foreigners to yearning for a different environment, he said in his written reply to a question from from Non-Constituency MP Sylvia Lim, who wanted to know how many Singaporeans had emigrated in the last three years. Most of them took up new citizenship in countries in Southeast-Asia, the United States of America and Australia. Mr Wong said Singaporeans who emigrate generally do not declare this to the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) when they leave. The only available data which gives an indication of the number of emigrants from Singapore is the number of Singaporeans who have given up their citizenship and left Singapore. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2...ry_259877.html i think we need WWE to save the ingenious kaisu singaporean. in another 5 more years, it will b a extinct breed of human. ----------

  19. http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,155206,00.html? But such concerns have now been addressed by the National Longevity Insurance Committee, set up last September to make recommendations to the Government. The committee, chaired by Professor Lim Pin, is recommending that the payout age be reduced to 80 or even younger. It also recommends the premiums paid be made refundable, so that members can get back their capital sum. What about the interest earn from month or yearly premium paid. basically they want to suck us dry..... 21. Was thinking of hooking up one of my mp3 players to my car stereo so that i could play songs from the mp3 player. Instead of finding propriety adapters to fit into the car stereo (ipod, etc), is it possible just to connect the mp3 player with the car stereo set via the 3.5mm output? If the car stereo has an aux out, i could just plug that into the mp3 player 3.5mm plug and i'm good to go. i don't mind controlling music from the mp3 player itself, i just put it on shuffle and continuous play. I'm not an audiophile, but i would want at least decent quality music, i think a 3.5mm input would be a good compromise. What i'm wondering is what if my headunit doesn't seem to have an aux out/3.5mm connector? Am i forced to use an fm transmitter? Is it possible to go to a car audio shop and get the technicians to splice out an aux-out 3.5mm cable out for me? If it's possible, how much would it cost and could anyone recommend any shops? Thanks to anyone who could assist me in this simple i.c.e. question!
