  1. A prototype of a Volkswagen Golf R with a five cylinder engine has been filmed going around the Nurburgring. Published by youTuber, cvdzjiden, this special Golf R was supposed to be the production version of the R400 concept a few years ago. However, the plan to build it was shelved as the company was involved in the emissions scandal. As for the car seen in the video, Golf fans would have noticed the car sounds very different in the video as compared to a normal Golf R. In fact, it sounds very similar to the 2.5-litre turbo five pot that resides in the Audi RS3 Sportback and sedan. Look closely and you can also see that the Golf wears the RS3's dual tip tail pipes instead of the usual Golf R's quad pipe setup. According to the video's description, the car is said to be making 420ps or 414bhp, a substantial jump from the Golf R's 306bhp. Will the car make it into production? No one knows. But we sure hope it does! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSeUu6oqLos
  2. Volkswagen had planned to give the new mk8 Golf GTI a mild-hybrid powertrain but scrapped the plan at the last minute. According to Autocar, Volkswagen has reached the final development phase of the eighth generation Golf GTI and has decided to use a revised version of the current EA888 2.0-litre turbocharged engine instead. A mild electric motor was supposed to be matched to the EA888 engine but current VW Group chairman Herbert Diess reversed the decision without us knowing why he did so. Instead, the car will have two power outputs like the current generation GTI. It is believed that the lower power model will have around 252bhp while the higher output one will make around 286bhp. Meanwhile, the standard golf will be getting the mild-hybrid technology with the 1.5-litre turbo four being paired to an electric motor and a 48V electrical architecture. The new Golf is expected to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
  3. Posted by Instagram user johannes.vag, the new eighth generation Volkswagen Golf has been spotted on the streets of Europe. Looking pretty much without any form camouflaging, the new car does look bigger than current generation Golf and based on the photos, the new car looks like it shares no body panel with the current car. The new Golf is said to be based on a revised version of the existing model’s platform and will likely be lighter than before. Of course, the interior will be refreshed and it will offer some form of semi-autonomous system and an improved infotainment system. Volkswagen is believed to have said that the new Golf will go into production in June 2019.
  4. Volkswagen has unveiled the Golf GTI TCR, a pared down, road-legal version of the touring car. With 286bhp, the TCR is supposed to slot between the 227bhp GTI and the similarly-powered Golf R. Paired to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission that drives the front wheels, the TCR can do the century sprint in 5.6 seconds while top speed is 250km/h, with the option of increasing it to 260km/h. Compared to the GTI, the TCR can do the 0-100km/h sprint 0.8 seconds faster while the Golf R, with its AWD drivetrain is still pretty much uncomparable with a 4.6 seconds timing. Inside, things stay pretty much the same other than the new front sports seats with unique fabric designs. Elsewhere, the Golf GTI TCR gets a new front lip, side skirt extensions, a more aggressive roof spoiler and rear diffuser. The standard 18-inch wheels are also new and the car gets a limited slip differential too. Buyers can opt for two packages with the first one offering DCC adaptive suspension, stiffer rear damping, a 260km/h speed limiter and 19-inch wheels. The second one goes one step further and adds stickier tyres to a different set of 19-inch wheels. It also gets wheel locks with anti-theft protection.
  5. During its recent Annual General Meeting, Volkswagen teased us with a digital the interior of the new Golf but now spy photographers can show us the real thing. As published by Carscoops, the Golf's interior is very different from today's model. Adopting a minimalist interior like most of the newer cars today, the dash features two large screen, one as the instrumental cluster and one for the infotainment system. A third smaller screen seemed to have been placed in between the aircon vents to display the climate control's status. Elsewhere, we can see a new steering wheel and new door panels with aluminum trim. The new car is set to be revealed in October and according to the German company, the car will once again “set the benchmark in the compact class.” In particular, they said the car will have class-leading comfort and connectivity as well as good fuel efficiency and low CO2 emissions. They will be available with mild- and plug-in hybrid variants and the plug-in hybrid models will be able to travel up to 80 km on electricity alone.
  6. Volkswagen's Golf GTI TCR is the last of the special editions for the mk7 generation of the GTIs. So is it the best one of them all? Inspired by the TCR International Series, the Golf GTI TCR is not the most hardcore of the Mk7 GTIs but with 286bhp from its 2.0-litre turbo four paired exclusively to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends power to the front wheels, it is far from soft. Watch what Carfection's Henry Catchpole has to say about the car in the video below!
  7. Looks like the hot Hatch category getting interesting next Year You Have the Renault RS which is zero to 100 in about 5.7 to 6 sec New engine. Not as ricey as the Civic and tamer. Functional Diffuser. 4 Wheel Steering, which may not be everyone's liking. Hopefully, they nail it this time round. Its downsize to 1.8T instead of 2.0 T so I suspect no replacement for displacement means the 150 to 200 kmh range will be slower on the straight. Comes stock at 280 bhp while GTi is 235 bhp. vs Civic 308 bhp. Let see what kind of prices. If the number falls in the 145 to 155 K range, probably have very good takeup rate.
  8. A U.K publication has suggested that the eighth-generation Volkswagen Golf has a good chance of losing its three-door and wagon variants. Without naming any sources, Autocar reported the german brand might kill off the two aforementioned body styles as demand for them has declined over time. Adding on, Volkswagen also wants to position the new Golf as a premium hatch that will appeal to BMW 3 Series and Mercedes Benz C-Class buyers who want a smaller car. To do so, Volkswagen will be making the hatch the biggest Golf to date with the largest track ever. It will also have a longer wheelbase than its predecessor. Naturally, the Mk8 will have more interior space than before and that space will also likely surpass its rivals too. Following its newer family members like the Touareg, Volkswagen will be eliminating unnecessary switches and using touchscreens to replace almost all traditional controls to make the car more upmarket. In fact, the headlight switch will also be replaced. Based on the same MQB platform as the current model, the new car is set to be around 50kg lighter.
  9. Volkswagen's Golf R, which has been facelifted this year, was given 10bhp more in its current guise. But with the new WLTP coming into effect, Volkswagen has no choice but to remove the added horses. Also known as the Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure, it is the latest test that measures emissions based on real-world data rather than the current lab analysis of the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). To make sure the Golf R complies with the new emissions standards that will kick in in September, Volkswagen has fitted a new exhaust system to the Golf R. Sadly with the cleaner exhaust, Autocar says that the hot hatch will output 296bhp instead of 306bhp. Unfortunately, customers who have yet to get their cars, will have to have their exhaust systems swapped out to the revised ones also.
  10. Volkswagen's Golf GTI just keeps getting better and better. For 2019, VW has turned up the wick on the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and made more performance equipment standard, while also introducing a special-edition model called the Rabbit Edition. All GTI models now produce 228 horsepower, 8 hp more than before thanks to a slight retuning. The six-speed manual transmission remains the same, but the optional dual-clutch transmission is now a seven-speed unit. Larger brakes from the Golf R and a limited-slip differential, previously offered only on higher trims, are now standard across the board. The new Rabbit Edition slots between the base S and the mid-level SE. It's set apart by black trim for the wheels, spoiler, and mirrors along with Rabbit badges for the seats, intended to bring to mind the original GTI from 1984, which was called Rabbit in the U.S. market. The GTI's spirit of continuous improvement is also accompanied by continous price hikes, and the 2019 model now starts at US$28,490, US$1180 more than before. The Rabbit Edition is US$29,790, the SE is US$32,690, and the Autobahn costs US$36,890, with the dual-clutch transmission priced at US$1100 regardless of trim level.
  11. Volkswagen has only started releasing teaser images of the upcoming Golf Mk8 and the car does not seem to be ready at all for a reveal yet. However, someone in South Africa has apparently spied the car in real life with no camouflage at all... Could this be the real thing? Or is this a heavily doctored video, using the current car as a ? Until it is officially confirmed, it is best to take the video with a grain of salt. https://www.facebook.com/TunedAutomotive/videos/1291454950994437/ https://www.facebook.com/TunedAutomotive/videos/212536379648282/

  13. Was at VW Alexandra 1st week of Sep 2017. According to SE, Golf facelift (mk7.5) is already in Tuas, undergoing LTA homologation process. All SEs have already been there to look at the cars, with photos in their mobile phones. Spec sheets have already been drawn up, which I got a glimpse on SE's mobile phones. Some sketchy (I don't have complete picture) details: Current Golf 1.2 will be replaced with facelift 1.0 New 1.4 will again have two versions, named ComfortLine or TrendLine or HighLine or something. Facelift 1.5 is nowhere in sight. GTI and R is also in the works. Active Info Display is "deemed a high-end feature", and only available in the highest models: GTI and above. ACC (adaptive cruise control) is again nowhere in sight. Currently clearing Golf stocks (all ex-stock, limited colors) to make way for the facelifts. They shouldn't have any problems since Cat A just drop a massive 7K on 06-Sep 2017.
  14. A facelifted version of the Volkswagen Golf will be internationally revealed in November and is expected to go on sale in 2017. The Golf – a mass-market rival for other family hatchbacks including the Seat Leon, Ford Focus, Opel Astra and Renault Megane – is regularly one of the best-selling cars in the UK. It's also one of the best cars outright, offering a comfortable ride and smart interior while being easy to drive and relatively practical. As well as mild styling changes and interior and equipment upgrades, this Golf facelift will also introduce a new petrol-electric 'mild' hybrid powertrain, which will be offered alongside the existing petrol and diesel models, as well as revised versions of the Golf GTE hybrid and the e-Golf electric car. The new mild hybrid powertrain, which uses a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, is said to be capable of returning 60mpg under real-world conditions. Unlike conventional hybrids, which see petrol engines and electric motors both providing power, mild hybrids use an oversized starter motor and generator to give temporary assistance to the engine, thus giving the car extra pulling power when needed. In reality, the system should help the updated Golf to accelerate more quickly than today's car while continuing to return impressive fuel economy. A facelifted version of the e-Golf is likely to be revealed at the same time as the regular car. Crucially, the e-Golf will feature a more advanced battery, which will boost its driving range to around 186 miles, or 68 miles further than the current model. It will also get more power from its electric motor and should be around 20kg lighter than the current model. Elsewhere, we expect to see improvements to fuel economy and CO2 emissions on the rest of the Golf's extensive engine range, which currently includes 1.2, 1.4 and 2.0-litre petrol engines and 1.4 and 2.0-litre diesels. Of the current crop, our favourite is the 1.4 TSI 125. Volkswagen is also likely to bolster the available equipment on its S, Bluemotion, Match, GT and R Line specifications. Stay tuned to find out when this model will be arriving our shores.
  15. Hi bros out there, is the Active Info Display A fully digital instrument cluster presents data and information about the vehicle directly in the cockpit via a 12.3-inch high-resolution display....really useful? The look so trendy...
  16. Automotive business intelligence firm Jato Dynamics has reported that the Volkswagen Golf is set to be 2017's best-selling car model in Europe. Facelifted recently, the golf was the leader by a significant margin with 445,206 units sold in the first 11 months of the year. Second place goes to the Renault Clio with 298,000 units while third goes to Volkswagen's Polo with 255,370 units. Also in the report, SUVs now make up 31.9 percent of the overall market, an increase from the 27.6 percent recorded during the same period last year. Sales of these type of cars increased by 21.6 percent as compared to last year. Leading the race for best-selling model is Nissan's Qashqai with 230,860 units. It is fifth in the overall listing. Even though the numbers were tabulated till November, it is likely that Volkswagen will remain the best-selling brand for 2017 in Europe. It has since sold 1,567,748 units while Renault and Ford sold 1,040,268 and 977,322 units respectively. The below is the list of Europe's best-selling models. 1. Volkswagen Golf - 445,206 units 2. Renault Clio - 298,990 units 3. Volkswagen Polo - 255,370 units 4. Ford Fiesta - 237,770 units 5. Nissan Qashqai - 230,860 units 6. Peugeot 208 - 225,198 units 7. Opel Corsa - 221,497 units 8. Volkswagen Tiguan - 218,238 units 9. Skoda Octavia - 214,329 units 10. Opel Astra - 204,742 units
  17. One of the most iconic automotives of all times - the Volkswagen Golf - is celebrating its 40th birthday. We take a trip through the memory lane with a brief history of each generation. The Golf is a statement of progress, reflecting some of the most advanced technologies by the Wolfsburg automaker during each era. Replacing the aged Beetle, the Golf Mk.I saw daylight in 1974. But unlike its 'predecessor' who had a rear engine, rear-wheel drive layout (and likewise most of the other cars in the market), the Golf had an innovative transversely front engine driving its front wheels. The second Golf was introduced in 1983, together with a slew of technologies such as regulated catalytic converter, anti-lock braking system (ABS) and power steering. Also, for the first time, the Golf could be ordered with an all-wheel system. With the introduction of front airbags, Golf Mk.III heralded a new era of safety. Major advances in the body construction also significantly improved crash safety. Later in its lifecycle, a convertible (Golf Cabriolet) and an estate (Golf Variant) were also added to the family. The Mk.IV Golf saw the debut of ESC, and is the first to receive a Haldex clutch - termed Golf 4MOTION. Later on in 2002, the first direct injection (FSI) enginer was fitted to the hatchback. Also introduced was the top-of-line R32 hot hatch which was capable of a 250km/h top speed, which was also the first to feature the revolutionary dual-clutch gearbox (DSG). The Mk.V Golf adopted laser welding for its bodywork, which resulted in 35 percent increase in torsion rigidity. In terms of safety, side airbags were offered as an option for the first time - on top of six standard ones. The Golf also gets a tall list of equipment, such as new four-link rear suspension, seven-speed DSG, bi-xenon headlamps, panoramic sunroof - as well as the world's first twincharger (TSI) in the 2006 model. Volkswagen continued to work on the safety aspect of its icon with advances in its body rigidity, and the efforts paid off with a five-star EuroNCAP safety rating. More TSI engine variants were offered alongside the turbodiesel (TDI) engines. Park Assist - the automatic parking system which garnered much limelight - was also introduced in the Golf. Like its predecessors, the latest Golf had a keen interest in fuel economy and driving dynamics. A hundred kilograms were shed in the Mk.VII Golf, improving the fuel efficiency by as much as 23 percent. The turbodiesel Golf TDI BlueMotion sets the benchmark for efficiency, claiming a figure of 31.25km/L. In line with global trends, electric variants of the Golf - e-Golf and plug-in hybrid Golf GTE - were added to the family.
  18. Volkswagen is set to launch a special edition for the mk7.5 Golf GTI and it will be using the TCR nameplate, similar to the 345bhp TCR race car. Following the success of the Clubsport variant of the pre-facelift Mk7 GTI, the upcoming uprated GTI TCR will be announced the GTI meeting at Worthersee, in a few days' time. With 286bhp and 370Nm, the GTI TCR's 2.0-litre turbocharged engine produces 25bhp more than the Mk7 Clubsport but loses out to the 306bhp Clubsport S. Top speed is limited to 250km/h but can be raised to 264km/h if requested. Volkswagen also confirmed that the GTI TCR will come with a limited-slip differential, paired to a dual-clutch DSG gearbox, as standard. It is unknown whether it is available in manual guise but guessing that its TCR race car is only available with the DSG gearbox, it is unlikely the TCR road car will have a manual option. Elsewhere, the car seems to have gain a slightly more menacing front and rear look. The new wheels add on to give the whole car a more purposeful stance. The production car is expected to go on sale by the end of the year.

    Golf at Istana

So I went to Istana on Tuesday. Was very very surprised to see a GOLF course inside. So has any bro played golf there? Who was it designed / constructed for and why?
  21. Oettinger recently showed off what it can do to the facelifted Golf GTi at the annual Wörthersee event where Golf enthusiasts around the world gather. Oettinger's GTi package consists of a complete bodykit, including a new front splitter, side skirts and a roof spoiler. Rounding up the rear look is a new four-pipe exhaust system that uses three-and-a-half-inch tips. Those who have the Golf GTD will be happy to know that the same package fits their cars. For those that want more power, Oettinger offers engine upgrades for the GTI that can take the car's power output up to an impressive 380bhp. To keep all the power in check, suspension and brake upgrades are also available, along with gearbox upgrades that consist of strengthened DSG clutches which are able to withstand 650Nm.
  22. A new Performance Pack for the facelifted U.K. market Golf R has been launched by Volkswagen. It is available to both the DSG and manual versions of the car. The pack includes an upgraded braking system that shaves 2kg off the standard system, a set of larger 19-inch Spielberg alloy wheels and a new tailgate-mounted spoiler. Also included in the Pack is an increase of the hot hatch's top speed to 270km/h, up from 250km/h. For those who want more, they can also specify a new exhaust system that complements the Pack. The new exhaust, produced by Akrapovic, features round tailpipes rather than the stock oval ones and comes with a valve control technology that enhances the exhaust sound. It is also lighter by 7kg as compared to the stock exhaust system.
  23. I was considering the Jetta as a replacement for our family car, but down at the showroom, the CO expressed more interest in the Golf instead. Would appreciate feedback from the bros and sis driving the current Golf. In particular, Internet has a lot of negative reviews about the DSG gearbox. Does anyone driving the Mk 7 Golf have any issues so far? Thanks in advance.
  24. Making way for 6.9m population! Last time GCT played golf, these were untouchable. Now, LHL doesn't play golf... http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/two-golf-courses-be-phased-out-2024 The size of three other golf courses will be cut Published: 16 February, 6:02 PM Updated: 16 February, 6:15 PM SINGAPORE — The Government has announced the fate of golf clubs here, after days of speculation over which of the golf courses with leases expiring within the next 10 years will have to make way for redevelopment. Of the nine golf clubs with leases expiring within the next 10 years, two — Keppel Club and Marina Bay Golf Club — will not have their leases renewed. Three others — Tanah Merah Country Club (TMCC) and National Service Resort and Country Club (NSRCC) and Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) — will have their leases extended but they will be giving up part of the land they now occupy. The remaining four will have their leases extended with no change. Of the four, however, Orchid Country Club’s lease will not be further renewed after 2030. Singapore has 14 private golf courses and three public golf courses, taking up 1,500ha of land, or about 2 per cent of the Republic’s total land area. Last February, the Government had said that some of these golf courses will have to be phased out and the land be put to other uses. Keppel Club, which has origins dating back to 1904, will not have its lease extended after it expires on Dec 31, 2021, as the land is needed for housing development. The club, which occupies some 44ha of land, will be offered an alternative site to operate as a social club if it is keen, the Ministry of Law (Minlaw) and the Singapore Land Authority (SLA) said today (Feb 16). TMCC and NSRCC will have their leases extended, but will give up some of their land for Changi Airport’s expansion plans. The Government will acquire about 10ha of land from TMCC — comprising six holes from TMCC’s Garden golf course, three of its tennis courts and two of its storage sheds — to make way for new taxiways to be built at Changi Airport. The SLA will gazette the land affected by the acquisition tomorrow (Feb 17). About 26ha of NSRCC’s land will be affected. Part of its Air Force course and part of its Executive nine-hole course will be affected by the airport expansion works and re-alignment of Changi Coast Road. Some parts of the leasehold land will also be affected by the Land Transport Authority’s road works and PUB’s drainage works. The SICC’s courses at its Island location will have its lease extended, but one of its two Bukit location courses will be run as a public course by the labour movement when its lease expires in 2021. This is to ensure public access to golfing facilities when the Marina Bay Golf Course — a 68-ha public course — is phased out for redevelopment. The lease for the SICC’s other Bukit course will only be extended if it can work out with the labour movement how to reconfigure its courses and possibly share its facilities by February next year. The authorities also suggested that the labour movement discuss the possibility of offering some arrangement to Keppel Club members at the public course. “This depends, of course, on all the parties being able to agree on terms,” they said. The changes affected about 200ha of land in all. “Golfing is an activity that is enjoyed by many Singaporeans, with many of them owning or aspiring to own memberships in golf clubs,” the authorities said. “However, golfing and golf clubs are land intensive and there is a need to balance the competing demands for land.”
