According to Carscoops, a Mazda RX-8 was spotted around the Nurburgring and sources online says it is powered by a new rotary engine. Despite the suspicion that the mule is using the upcoming two-rotor turbo engine in the RX-8, it is still questionable Mazda will allow the wankel engine to be the main power source. This is because the company’s executives have said in the past that the specific technology will return only in the form of a range-extender generator for a electric powertrain. That said, the RX-8 mule has been spotted being benchmarked with a Porsche Cayman and the new engine will be a 1.6-litre two-rotor unit with around 400bhp.

With the Mazda MX-5 approaching four-years old, Road and Track, an American publication, has uncovered a VIN filing which suggest that the facelifted roadster could get a significant bump in power. The 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which develops 155bhp now, could get as much as 181bhp in the not-too-distant-future. While the article did not state how the extra power will be achieved, the 17 percent jump in horses is unlikely to make use of a turbocharger or supercharger. Whether it will be a new engine remains unknown.

Hi All, Like to seek advise from bros/sis here, the Engine and AT light turned on earlier this year (Jan) and I cleared it using torque. It happened once in a while then, so I visited a workshop and they recommended changing the AT oil and monitor which I did. (car mounted kerb few weeks before, so not sure if it can cause this although we didn't see any physical damage undercarriage) Btw the gearbox was replaced with a recon unit when I extended the COE in end 16. It seemed ok until recently (start of this month), both lights will turn on whenever I move off from the carpark at the start of the day. The gear shifting is a little jerky from 1 to 2 and from 2 to 3 and then stucked at gear 3 where the lights will turn on. I will then clear the error and continue driving (sometimes it happened another 2-3 times) and once it managed to hit gear 4, then everything will be fine. I noticed this happens when the car is parked for quite some time(I seldom drive the car).If I had been driving around for the day, then the chances of the lights coming up is very low. The error code is P0715 which points Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit. As the error became consistent, I sent it to two workshops to check 2 days ago and both told me that chances is the ECU and the worst case is the gear box. But after googling around, some say is the TCM which sound more logical. Thus, I would like to seek opinions from experts here whether it is more of an electrical or mechanical fault and if there are any good workshops to recommend. (these 2 workshops say it's not the speed sensor which the error code indicated though) Thanks!

As the best-selling two-seater sports car in history, the Mazda MX-5 Miata enjoys a considerable following around the world and owners will be happy to hear that the Japanese company is launching two new services catered specifically to owners of first-generation Eunos roadsters or MX-5 as the other parts of the world calls it. Firstly, Mazda will start offering parts for the NA series MX-5 and for now, it will focus on providing what it thinks owners might need most, namely the fabric roof, the Bridgestone tyres, the Nardi steering wheel and the shift knob. These items were selected as they tend to be worn-out the fastest. Other items may be added by popular demand. The other service is the possibility of fully restoring your car. No prices have been given but you can be sure that by letting them restore your NA rMX-5 to factory-fresh condition two decades after it ceased production the, your wallet will be much lighter after the process. Cars which have been restored will then be certified to ensure their restoration operation meets the highest criteria. Sadly, these services are only available in Japan for the time being.

Mazda has released the first official exterior photo of its new three-row seater SUV. Called the CX-8, it is said to be Japan-only vehicle and is set to go on sale by the end of this year. Looking at the side profile of the car, it is clear that the designers wanted the whole family of Mazda SUVs to look similar. While it is easy to distinguish the difference between the CX-5 and the CX-8 due to the their sizes, it is slightly hard to spot the difference between the CX-8 and its larger brother, the CX-9. Speaking of the CX-9, it is only 175mm longer and 125mm wider than the CX-8. Wheelbase for both cars are the same. The SUV is available in both six-seater and seven-seater configuration and will be powered by a 2.2-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel engine at launch. The engine will be make around 170bhp and 420Nm of torque and will be paired to a six-speed automatic.

Hi guys, Am looking around used Mazda 3 and here are my observation on the 2nd gen, which I appreciate if current/ex owners can clarify 1) 2013 year have this "SP" and lower OMV/ARF of 16k, while 2012 year and earlier is around 20k. What caused the significant drop? 2) For the models 2012 and earlier, there is two trim level - "Normal" and "Luxury". I cant find any information online on the trim level difference, what is the extra specification found on Luxury? 3) Does either trim come with ESP?

The facelifted Mazda 3 has been spotted ahead of its Japanese launch debut as reported by Paultan.org. First seen on Minkara and CarDrive, the car will be receiving a few new technological updates other than the not-so-obvious exterior changes. Judging from the photos, we could only spot a slightly reshaped grill and bumper while the rear bumper receives similarly subtle changes. Inside, the car will get a newly-designed steering wheel and the introduction of an electronic parking brake. There might be more changes elsewhere but as of now, this is all the information we have. Driving wise, the facelifted Mazda 3 will likely feature Mazda's new G-Vectoring Control which aims to reduce the steering angle when turning, as well as the speed of turning when one turns the wheel. This is achieved by reducing engine torque by modifying the car’s ignition timing, corresponding to steering input. Watch the video below to see the benefits of the system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02tIMWl25K0

In light of recent recall issues faced by their fellow competitors, Mazda Motor Singapore has taken a step forward to protect their brand. The car dealer has enlarged its suite of services to include Mazda's parallel-imported cars under its service wing. Singapore owners of parallel-imported Mazdas in stock condition can now service and repair their vehicles at Mazda Service Centres at Alexandra Road and MacPherson Road. Owners of parallel-imported Mazdas can now give their cars the real Mazda treatment at the two service centres. The centres are equipped with Mazda Modular diagnostic systems. Mazda Corporation, Japan, also provides direct technical support. With bi-monthly technical data and updates from its headquarters in Japan, Mazda Motor Singapore can take preventive recommendations and correction actions to protect every vehicle. The distributor also sends their workshop managers on special technical training sessions organised by Mazda Corporation, Japan for each new model launched to guarantee a detailed understanding of each of the entire model range. With the common misunderstanding that servicing at a distributor tends to be more expensive than independent workshops, the distributor assures that in reality, their maintenance packages are priced very competitively. To provide owners with a better peace of mind, all repairs by Mazda Motor Singapore are warranted for 6 months or 6000km*, a benefit you'll not get from an independent workshop. To book a service appointment, please visit www.mazda.com.sg or call 6395 8833 or 6603 6128. Or, take your Mazda down to any of our service centres at 315 Alexandra Road or 1 Kampong Ampat (Off MacPherson Road). *Whichever comes first. Warranty covers the specific repair work completed by Mazda Motor (S) Pte Ltd.

Mazda Motor Corporation has revealed the Mazda MX-5 RF (retractable fastback). The latest addition to the MX-5 family fully embodies the model's 26-year-old tradition of "lots of fun". While staying true to the original MX-5 Retractable Hardtop's goal of making open-top driving more accessible, Mazda has broken the bounds of conventional thinking to create something entirely new. The MX-5 RF features fastback styling with a smooth roofline that slopes down to the rear end, and its unique rear roof and retractable back window offer a new open-air feeling. The power roof can be opened or closed at speeds of up to 10 km/h with the press of a button, and the roof is stowed compactly and efficiently in a limited space. Despite its fastback styling and hardtop roof, the MX-5 RF offers the same amount of trunk space as the soft-top model. The model will feature either the SKYACTIV-G 1.5 or SKYACTIV-G 2.0 gasoline engine, depending on the market. The North American model will have the SKYACTIV-G 2.0. The MX-5 RF will on display at the New York International Auto Show which opens to the public from March 25 through April 3.

Reported by Carscoops, Mazda seems like they almost done with readying the production version of last year's Koeru Concept, which could be named CX-4 or 6 in production guise. Looking much like the concept car, it is quite obvious that Mazda is cashing in on the four-door coupe look crossover that is similar to BMW's X6. Likely to be bigger than the CX-5, Mazda officials have said that the car will be a completely new entry in the range and will be more driver-focused than its other SUVs in its line up. No details on what engines it will run but considering its size, our guess is it will use the 2.5-litre engine found in its large sedan, the Mazda6 or the new 250bhp 2.5-litre turbo found in its recently released CX-9 large SUV.

With a dedicated engineering team, working on the rotary engine for the past eight years, the RX-9 is one of more eagerly awaited cars to be launched. According to Holiday Auto, a Japanese publication, Mazda’s bosses have formally approved the vehicle’s design and engineering. It is highly likely to use the RX-9 model name and the launch of the car will coincide with the brand's centenary. It is also reported that a prototype is expected to be revealed at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show as a preview before the car is revealed in 2019. Sales of of the RX-9 is expected to follow in the next year. The car will come with a 1.6-litre SKYACTIV-R engine, which will develop 400 hp with the help of a turbo and Homogeneous Charge Compression ignition (HCCI) which combines turbocharging and an engine with a high compression ratio.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Mazda MX-5 has been declared the best-selling two seat sports car in history with total production units going past 940,000 as of mid-2014. Now in its fourth generation, the long-awaited MX-5, which is also called the Roadster in Japan, is back and we take it out for a little spin. Referencing to the first generation model and using Mazda's Skyactiv engineering programme, the new MX-5 is much smaller and lighter than its predecessor. At 55mm shorter than the first generation model, It’s the most compact MX-5 yet and, save for the original, the lightest at a little more than 1,050kg. With that in mind, you wouldn't really expect it to have lots of cabin space. And yes you are right. There really isn't much space in here but hey, we aren't complaining. In actual fact, I grew to like the coziness as the day went by. Importantly, the driving position is almost spot on. You sit low and snug in the sports seat but some might find the non height adjustable seats a little restrictive. Good to still find proper cupholders despite the premium in space. Speakers built into the headrest ensure that you can hear what's on the radio when the roof is down. One of the best features the MX-5 is its ability to go topless in a few seconds. I love how you can stow the roof and latch it back up with just one hand. The MX-5 doesn't have many negative points but if you look hard enough, you can still find a couple of them. While not critical, having the pedals slightly offset to the right mars the driving experience slightly. On the topic of pedals, I got to sample both the manual and automatic variant and my vote goes to the manual transmission. With a positive throw action of the gearlever and a very manageable clutch, its a joy to savour the mechanical interaction going on when you drive it hard. Meanwhile, the automatic blunts the performance slightly and can be a little slow to react when you request for gearchanges. If you opt for the six-speed automatic, there is a "Sports" mode that you can toggle on and off. It increases throttle response and delays the gearbox from shifting up early. The 158bhp 2.0-litre lump redlines at 6,500rpm. I wish it could rev higher, like how its 1.5-litre variant can go up till 7,500rpm before it runs out of breath. The exhaust note is on a rorty side but don't expect the car to crack or pop like the european sports cars do when you drive it hard. 17-inch wheels with 45 profile tyres allows the car to have some decent ride comfort while the brakes haul the lightweight car down from speed easily. Meanwhile, I have no complains about the quick-ratio electromechanical power steering which felt sharp and confident all the time. Having 200Nm of torque at your disposal might sound a little stingy but with only so little weight and a rev happy engine, I barely found the car wanting in terms of acceleration. Besides, a century sprint figure of 7.3 seconds sounds pretty decent to me. And, when driven sensibly, it is possible to achieve a realistic 12km/L! With all said and done, you could probably guess that we love the new Mazda MX-5 quite a bit. I mean, in today's tech-laden and heavy cars, the charm of something small, simple that drives well is really refreshing. Beside, what else looks as good as it at this price? Oh, on a side note, you might even be able to slip through some parking gantries with its low height ;)
