  1. Recently we posted a video here that showed a 691bhp Lamborghini Aventador being barely able to keep up with the Tesla Model S P85D in an all out drag race. Now, a 425bhp BMW M4 cabriolet is paired to the same electric vehicle and drag-raced to see how far will the deficit in power and weight (265bhp lesser and 250kg heavier) compared to the Aventador will affect the outcome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uki71gN7ahcWhile it is pretty clear once the Tesla hits its electronically limited top speed of 208km/h ( Tesla is said to release updates to the software which will enable a 250km/h top speed in the coming months), the M4 will catch up and breeze past it. However, top speed is pretty irrelevant in this part of the country and acceleration might actually be more useful. Hmmm... is the end of internal combustion coming to end?
  2. Ever wonder if a 691hp Tesla can beat a 691hp Lamborghini in a drag race? One owner drag raced both of his cars so that we can have an answer... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0e-jquwHKtIFrom what we could see, the Tesla put up quite a good fight even though it weighs 380kg more than Aventador. Even in drag races, the availability of instant torque with the Tesla pulling ahead for the first few seconds before the supercar catches it as the speed rises. For reference, the official century sprint for the Model S is 3.2 seconds while the Aventador's is 2.9 seconds.
  3. news just out . . . . http://www.thesundaily.my/news/1109095 KUALA LUMPUR: Police said Thursday they had arrested seven people in connection with the murder of an Estonian model whose body was found on a resort island. Freelance model Regina Soosalu's body was discovered on a beach on Rawa island off the east coast last week. She was initially believed to have drowned - but police said on Wednesday they found wounds on her body and were investigating the case as murder. Johor Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Hasnan Hassan told AFP seven people had been arrested so far for questioning over her death but declined to comment further. Faris Waris of Tangerine Models said his agency had worked with Soosalu, who was in her 20s and had been in Malaysia on and off for about three years. "She is one of the top freelance models in the country. We are shocked," he told AFP. Her boyfriend, with whom she had travelled to the island, is a member of the Johor royalty. Police are also investigating the death of a British tourist whose body was found last month on Tioman island, after he went missing on a jungle hike.
  4. The Mercedes-Benz S 63 AMG Coupe will have its world premiere at the New York International Auto Show in April 2014, as the most powerful member of the BlueDIRECT engine family. The 5.5-litre V8 bi-turbo engine boasts an output of 585bhp and 900Nm of torque - linked to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT MCT seven-speed sports transmission. This allows the performance Gran Tourer to accelerate from nought to 100km/h under 4.3 seconds, and on to reach a governed top speed of 250km/h. With a combined figure of 10.1L/100km - the two-door model is the most fuel-efficient model in its competitive segment. The S 63 AMG Coupe is lighter by 65kg - thanks to a lighter lithium-ion battery, forged light-alloy wheels and a weight-optimised braking system. Furthermore, the entire outer skin and the front end of the body are made of aluminium. There are two variants of the S 63 AMG Coupe - with rear-wheel drive or with AMG 4MATIC all-wheel drive. With the 4MATIC system, 67 percent of the power is sent to the rear axle and the rest to the front. For the suspension - the rear-wheel drive AMG Coupe is equipped with MAGIC BODY CONTROL, while the all-wheel drive variant features the AIRMATIC system with the adaptive damping system ADS PLUS. Inside the car, high-quality materials and fine workmanship are combined with a sporty, exclusive design idiom. The newly developed AMG sports seats offer the driver and front passenger optimum lateral support. One particularly exclusive model in the range is the S 63 AMG Coupe 'Edition 1', which will be available a year after market launch. Swarovski crystals in the LED headlamps (not the one above) lend the car an irresistible look, while the cabin is trimmed in exclusive nappa leather with contrast topstitching. The roof liner and the sun screens are in DINAMICA microfibre. Further features include AMG Exclusive floor mats, door sill panels with illuminated AMG lettering and a high-gloss black poplar wood trim. Also included is an 'Edition 1' branding on the sports steering wheel.
  5. In the past, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) had failed to properly separate the regulatory function from its other functions, such as building the rail systems. Instead, it had often held the operators responsible for faults that were clearly the result of poor quality control during construction and a clear lack of stringent acceptance-testing procedures. With the new bus-contracting model, a good way to separate the two functions will be to have the regulatory function assigned to another, independent entity, such as the Ministry of Transport. One missing feature that can be incorporated into the bus-contracting model is published and strictly adhered-to timetables for the bus services. All major cities in the world operate bus services on published timetables. This requires that 100 per cent of the services be performed. Currently, the LTA lets operators get away with performing only 96 per cent of the scheduled trips without a penalty. As a result, operators do not have any standby drivers in case one of the scheduled drivers reports sick or otherwise fails to show up. Instead, the scheduled frequency is then adjusted for the reduced number of buses operated. In order to properly monitor timetable adherence, timing stops need to be identified and strictly monitored. This can be done with the analysis of the ez-link database and does not require any costly, high-technology systems. Examples of this approach can readily be found in Australian cities visited by the Ministry of Transport. The MRT was originally designed to provide basic service for the heavy movements in major corridors where rail service is far more efficient than bus services. To that extent, even improved bus services will not be able to replace the MRT. Unfortunately, the lack of proper attention by the LTA to the upgrading needs of the original MRT North-South and East-West lines, such as the long overdue replacement of the outdated signalling system, have caused the MRT's current lack of adequate capacity and hence popularity. The LTA will have to prove its capability to plan for more appropriate bus services, given that the current routes are anything but efficient and often far too long to operate reliably. The LTA needs to find the relevant talent to plan better bus services. With the LTA planning the bus routes and presumably the required frequency of service, who will be responsible for determining a realistic and achievable timetable and hence the required number of buses? Will it be the LTA or the bus operator bidding for the route? This is an important issue that does not seem to have been addressed by the LTA's announced changes. If the LTA establishes the timetable, which then turns out not to be achievable, then who will hold the LTA responsible? If the task is to be part of the bus operator bidding for the contract, then the LTA will need to provide all the necessary data available to establish a realistic and achievable timetable. A clear indication of the process is required from LTA. The writer, Bruno Wildermuth, a veteran transport consultant, was closely involved in planning for the MRT in Singapore in the 1970s.

  7. Following the launch of the BMW 4 Series Coupe and Convertible, the Gran Coupe (GC) is the third model to join the new BMW 4 Series. The 4 Series GC combines the sleek look of a two-door coupe with the functionality provided by four doors and expansive spaciousness, including a wide access luggage compartment of 480 litres, expandable to 1,300 litres, makes loading and unloading much easier. The 4 Series has exactly the same dimensions as the two-door coupe - measuring 4,638mm long, and sitting 1,825mm wide with a wheelbase of 2,810mm. However, the roof is 12mm higher, 112mm longer and gently stretched, allowing it to flow smoothly into the rear quarter panels and boot lid. This extended roofline provides more headroom in the interior, along with added comfort. The boot lid is equipped as standard with an automatic opening and closing mechanism for maximum convenience. Up front, the 4 Series coupe and Gran Coupe are identical and share typical BMW design features like the double-kidney grille, dual round headlights and the large air intake in the front apron. The standard model variant, plus three optional equipment packages and the M Sport package, leave no wishes unfulfilled for drivers wanting a special look and feel. The BMW Individual program offered includes options for creating an exclusive vehicle with special leather interior packages, exterior colours and 19-inch light-alloy wheels. The 4 Series GC offers a choice of five powerful, cultivated and efficient engines. The high end is represented through the 435i's six-cylinder in-line 3.0-litre petrol engine delivering 306bhp. The BMW 428i GC and 420i GC are equipped with four-cylinder engines which deliver 245bhp and 184bhp, respectively. Two four-cylinder diesel engines are also offered, starting with the 420d GC which delivers 184bhp and sprints to 100km/h in only 7.7 seconds (7.5 seconds with sport automatic transmission) with an average fuel consumption between 4.7 to 4.9L/100km. The engine in the BMW 418d GC has an output of 143bhp and consumes up to 4.7L/100km. At model launch, the BMW 428i and 420d can be optionally equipped with BMW xDrive all-wheel drive technology. The standard variant features a six-speed manual transmission, but all engines can be combined with the optional eight-speed Steptronic or eight-speed sport Steptronic transmissions, which also feature manual shifting using paddles on the steering wheel.
  8. Mercedes-Benz recently introduced the S320L, featuring a detuned 3.0-litre turbocharged V6, as its base model in China. This long wheelbase variant's twin turbo engine puts out 272bhp at 5,000rpm and 400Nm of torque between 1,300-4,500rpm, enabling the century sprint to be achieved in a not-shabby-at-all 7.1 seconds which is only 0.3 seconds slower than the S400L Hybrid and the S350L BlueTEC Diesel that we have here in Singapore. Considering the fact that Singaporeans generally buy smaller engine variants like the many CLA180s and C180s running around, will the local distributors bring in this S320L for us too?
  9. You can probably feel that Lexus is keen to shake off that monotonous image that it has been stuck with all these years, when its official promo video (below) for its new RC F Coupe has an attractive model starring in it. This sexy lady in question is none other than Lisalla Montenegro, who also happens to be a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model. Not that the RC F coupe isn’t hot enough. With more than 450bhp and more than 520Nm of torque from its new 5.0-litre V8 engine, it is Lexus’s most powerful V8 engine ever produced. Expect a nice soundtrack coming out of its exhaust while blasting on towards its top speed of more than 250km/h. We can’t wait for it to do battle with its rival, the upcoming BMW M4. http://dai.ly/x1cv2xb And we thought the guys would want a few more photos of Lisalla Montenegro too...
  10. Nissan debuted the 2015 Nissan 370Z Nismo at the ZDAYZ event - an annual gathering of hundreds of Nissan, Datsun and Nismo owners and enthusiasts. The most striking change is its revised exterior design. The Nissan GT-R inspired aerodynamic body pieces are both functional and fully integrated. They have been redesigned to provide an aggressive and more aerodynamic appearance, in addition to optimising front and rear downforce. Key changes include a new, deep front fascia with LED Hyper Daytime Running Lights, black headlight bezels, Nismo emblem and brand signature red stripe accent on the integrated front chin spoiler. Around the rump, the unique Nismo rear spoiler has been reshaped and downsized. Under the hood, you would find a potent 350bhp and 373Nm rated, 3.7-litre DOHC V6 engine matched to an exclusive, exhaust system to help create 18bhp more than a standard 370Z Coupe. Two transmission choices are offered for the first time on the Nismo model - a close-ratio six-speed manual with SynchroRev Match or a new refined seven-speed automatic with Downshift Rev Matching (DRM), Adaptive Shift Control and manual shift control via paddle shifters. The distinctive Nismo styled interior is further enhanced with redesigned black and red Recaro leather seats with Alcantara accents - exclusive for the 370Z Nismo. The 370Z Nismo is offered in just four exterior colours and will go on sale at Nissan dealers in the U.S.A from July 2014.
  11. Any bro did that? like owned this model before but end up buy again? exactly the same model, not facelift or all new one, exactly same model. those bought again same model but facelifted or all new can vote. I vote YES I must be mad
  12. Is disc rotor universal? As long as the hole and diameter match? For example, 5 x 100 296mm can be used for any make and model which is using the same spec?
  13. Collecting model scale cars can be a quite expensive hobby especially those who are particular with the amount of real-life details copied onto the scale models. Prices can range from a mere $5 up to the hundreds and even thousands, for those limited editions made by high-end scale model car companies. This Lamborghini Aventador scale model is rather unique. The reason why I would say that is because the value is much more expensive (worth around US$4.7 million) than a real life one. This scale model is made by a German scale model builder named Robert Gulpen and he made this item using very expensive materials. The model is roughly 1/8 the size of a real Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4. It is built entirely out of precious metals; such as gold and platinum, diamonds and even carbon fibre. This is not the first time he had built something like this. Previously, he had built a solid gold 1/18 Bugatti Veyron scale model. With his previous successful model scale Veyron, Gulpen intends to seek out a new scale build with the Aventador as he feels that he car has an uncompromising design. The result is rather spectacular. The car features solid gold suspension design, platinum cast wheels, gold plated carbon fibre body panels and seats lined with over 700 diamonds. If these luxurious items are not enough, Gulpen will add more exclusive modifications to the scale model. The scale model car will be put on auction and Gulpen hopes to raise more than US$670,000 through the auction. He also hopes to enter into the Guinness Book of World Records for creating the world

  15. You've no doubt perused the big news coming out of Fiat-Chrysler's headquarters in Auburn Hills, MI today. But at the end of the brand discussions, Sergio Marchionne spoke briefly about an incredibly important, low-volume part of the Fiat-Chrysler empire: Ferrari. "You do need one of these cars in your driveway," Marchionne joked. And while other brand heads today lined out detailed plans for future product, Sergio's words about Ferrari's next five years were very simple, and very vague. Marchionne confirmed that Ferrari will launch a new car every year between now and 2018. The cars will have a four-year lifecycle, after which, "M" versions will be produced, with a separate four-year cadence. No specific models were mentioned during Marchionne's presentation. The Fiat-Chrysler boss confirmed that Ferrari will not break its cap of limiting production to just 7,000 units per year. This is a "willful and intended" limitation by Ferrari, Marchionne said, but did note that the Italian automaker could ramp up production to 10,000 cars per year in the future. Finally, Marchionne talked briefly about Ferrari's value as a whole, simply saying that the brand "is not for sale." Ferrari is a "phenomenal repository of value" for Fiat. Ninety percent of Ferrari's stock sits within Fiat and its shareholders, and as Marchionne says, "That's where it belongs."
  16. Maserati has released a teaser image of a new model that will be released at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show which will open on 19th April. What could it be? It is widely reported that the new model under the silky blue veil is the all new Ghibli saloon, which the Italian company has been working on and has been spied testing on several occasions. The covered up model shows a long hood with a prominent grille. The large wheel arches and strong bodylines at the side are clearly evident too. If this shapely model turns out to be the Ghibli, the BMW 5 Series has got something very serious to worry about. The Ghibli is expected to be powered by a 385bhp twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 or a 480bhp twin-turbo 3.8-litre V8. These engines will likely be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission. An all wheel drive system is on the option list.
  17. The 4.4-litre V8 engine in the Alpina B6 Bi-Turbo Gran Coupe develops 540bhp and a high 730Nm of torque available between 2,800 and 5,000rpm. The bi-turbo lump is linked to a capable ZF eight-speed transmission with Alpina Switch-Tronic for a creamy power delivery. Bundled with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive technology, the B6 Gran Coupe blasts to the century mark from nought in a dizzying 3.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 318km/h - making it the fastest accelerating BMW Alpina to date. Direct injection and valvetronic contribute to the B6 Bi-Turbo Gran Coupe's low consumption and emission figures of just 9.6km/L and CO2 emissions of 242g/km in the combined cycle. Typical design features of Alpina blend seamlessly and elegantly into the contours of the Gran Coupe and accentuate its sporty, powerful appearance. In particular, the 20-inch Alpina Classic light alloy wheels complement the long, smooth proportions of the Gran Coupe. The front spoiler with integrated, slightly forward positioned splitter directs more air over and around rather than underneath the vehicle, thereby stabilising the front end at high speeds. The design of the front spoiler ensures the effective flow of sufficient air to various radiator modules of the performance cooling systems. The Blue Alpina instruments, hand stitched steering wheel in Lavalina leather and illuminated door sills are just some of the exclusive features of the Gran Coupe's interior. The stainless steel exhaust system with trademark twin pipes returns a deep exhaust note - while an optional titanium exhaust system from Akrapovic is also available.
  18. Toyota has updated the JDM Mark X sedan for the 2013 model year. One of the more popular parallel-imported Toyota model in Singapore, this is the second time the Mark X receives a facelift in its life cycle. For those who feel that the facelift back in 2009 could be better, the good news is that the 2013 model has a nicer looking front fascia with a new grille that sports a more pronounced "X" logo in the centre. Sporting an aggressive design, the headlights incorporate Bi-Xenon bulbs and daytime running LED lights. The tail lights and bumper have been redesigned as well. Along with the 2013 iteration of the Mark X, Toyota has collaborated with its racing partner, Gazoo Racing, to come up with the G
  19. In less than a week, the world will witness the debut of the all new 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class. But right now, photos of its 1:18 scale die-cast model has surfaced on the Internet, courtesy of a photo gallery in an online French forum dedicated to miniature models. The photos revealed that the new model, codenamed W222, is clearly an evolution of the current model. Perhaps Mercedes-Benz is trying to play it safe with the styling of its top tier sedan so as not to 'shock' its current customer base. Some interesting styling features include a large front grille inspired by the F700 Concept car and LED head lights and taillights. Along with the sedan, the S-Class will spawn a coupe and convertible as well as an extended wheelbase S 600 Pullman trim that will fill the Maybach void. The latest S-Class represents Mercedes-Benz' ninth generation flagship sedan, and the sixth to be officially called the S-Class. Like the current S500, the new S-Class will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 and the S600 will pack a twin-turbo V12. The S 63 and S 65 AMG, diesel, hybrid and smaller powertrains will be introduced at a later date.
  20. Just a teaser photo at the moment but I am looking forward to it already. Hope it is still a NA big CC car! http://paultan.org/2013/12/10/lexus-rcf-detroit-2014/
  21. Saw this on TPE yesterday morning, damn ugly. What model is it?
  22. Anybody knows whether this model is coming to SG? I'm very interested in this model as the 3 series sedan is too small for me.
  23. This a picture by the photographer Kirill Kuletski: Nobody seems to recognize this model. One could say it looks like a Pontiac GTO, but when taking a closer look to the boot, it seems to have the four letters of "Ford" on it. Does anyone know what model this could be?
  24. THE BMW 5 Series has emerged Singapore's most popular model in the first three months this year (among authorised distributors). In a reflection of how sky-high COE premiums have upended the car market, a whopping 489 units of all the 5 Series' variants were registered (see table). This means the luxury sedan accounts for more than half of the total 918 BMW passenger cars sold so far. Coming in a distant second is the Toyota Corolla Altis, with 351 units of the evergreen model driven out of Borneo Motors Singapore's showroom in Q1. This perennially popular Japanese sedan accounts for about a third (34.5 per cent) of total official Toyota imports. Actually, the Mercedes- Benz E-Class is believed to have chalked up a similar number in sales to the Corolla Altis during the first quarter. However, no official figures of this premium saloon are available. The E-Class had ended 2010 as Singapore's top model among authorised distributors. But equally interesting about the Top 10 list is the strong presence of three Volkswagen models. Both the No 3 and No 4 models wear a Volkswagen badge. The Scirocco three-door sports model with 193 units is the third most popular model among authorised distributors, while the Golf hatchback is not far behind with 173 units. Another VW model, the Touran compact MPV, is also in the Top 10, in No 6 place. Their presence is not surprising considering the Volkswagen brand's strong Q1 sales but what is worth noting is the German make's good spread of sales. Each of the models makes about a fifth of total VW sales - the Scirocco at 20.9 per cent, the Golf at 18.8 per cent and the Touran at 17 per cent. In contrast, there is no doubt that Singapore's No 4 model, the Hyundai Avante at 168 units, is the Korean marque's core model. It accounts for a whopping two-thirds of total sales at 66.9 per cent. Meanwhile, Toyota's former Top 10 stalwarts have slipped down the rankings. The Toyota Wish compact MPV is now No 7 with 105 units, below a more expensive sedan model, the No 6 Toyota Camry with 142 cars. The once-steady Toyota Vios small sedan is now No 10 with 102 units when it used to be consistently in the Top 5. And the Kia Cerato Forte, which ended 2010 as Singapore's No 3 model, is now much lower down in No 9 position with just 104 units registered. This article was first published in The Business Times
  25. These days, the suited man looks naked without a tie bar, just like how substandard he will appear if he doesn't drive around Kuala Lumpur in a Lexus ES - with police escort, no less. The Lexus ES first saw the light of day in 1989 and has been around for six generations now. As disheartening as it may have been missing out on the fifth generation in Singapore (only available for left-hand drive countries), the latest ES doesn't seem like it's about to disappoint. There is a spanking new hybrid variant, too. The Lexus ES300h, as it's called, sports a 158bhp 2.5-litre twin cam Atkinson cycle petrol engine and a 105kW electric drive motor that's mated to an electronic continuously variable transmission (E-CVT). The petrol-powered ES250 is also available at launch. Exhibiting a 2.5-litre dual VVT-i engine under the bonnet, this variant is capable of 181bhp at 6,000rpm and 235Nm of torque at 4,100rpm. While it finishes the century sprint at a slightly slower 9.8 seconds, it has an impressive fuel economy of 12.7km/L on paper. Of course, like all Lexus, the hand-stitched finish on the dashboard of the ES is just one example of the high levels of luxury and quality evident in the car. Whether or not it's down to hardcore training and testing to achieve this perfection, one thing is for sure - the ES is all about absolute comfort and luxury.
