Looks like Renault is going to build an even faster Megane R.S.
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Based on Renault's history, we can probably guess that there will be more hardcore versions of the Megane R.S. even after the Trophy variant. And spotted on the Nuburgring recently by Carscoops, it does really seemed like Renault is working on a new flagship for its hot hatch. Likely to be called the Trophy-R like the previous generation Megane, the new one comes with a a vented bonnet with a big bump in the middle that might mean something. Meanwhile, the red accent on its front bumper is very similar to the old Trophy-R and the car spied on the Green Hell has its LED running lights deleted, presumably to cater for some sort of cooling for the brakes or engine. From the side, we can see new wheels plus larger brakes and a large white tape that probably camouflages its decals. As for the interior, the spy photographers manage to reveal a red steel bar where the rear seats should be, reaffirming the possibility of the prototype being the Megane RS Trophy-R. Being the most track-focused variant, the car will likely be the lightest but unknown whether the car will get more power or any other handling upgrades. -
In the market for a hot hatch? You might want to watch this video review by Autocar where they compare the Hyundai i30 N goes up against the Renault Megane R.S. 280. Unfortunately, the comparison isn't very fair as the i30 N they used in video is the standard variant with 'only' 247bhp instead of the 271bhp of N Performance variant. It is also missing the electronic limited slip differential, a set of larger 19-inch wheels with stickier tyres. Meanwhile the Renault packs 276bhp and is equipped with the optional Cup chassis that comes with a limited slip differential and a stiffer suspension set up. So which is the better car? The upcoming Renault Clio R.S. is rumored to be getting a larger 1.8-litre turbocharged engine thanks to its brother, the Megane R.S. As reported by Caradisiac, the hot hatch is likely to make around 225bhp with the new engine, slightly up on output compared to what the current generation Clio R.S. Trophy makes. The Trophy makes 217bhp with its 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. With only a slight bump in power, Renault will be able to keep the smaller Clio R.S. from being too close in performance to its larger hot hatch, the Megane R.S. The same engine makes 276bhp in the Megane. The next generation Clio is expected to debut at the 2018 Paris Auto Show in October which also means that the RenaulSport variant should not arrive anytime sooner than late 2019.

Selected markets will be getting Renault's new special edition Clio R.S 18. It is named after the Renaultsport F1 Team's 2018 challenger and is adorned with the similarly themed black and yellow livery of the F1 car. Changes to the car are minor, but driving enthusiasts will still be happy to hear updates such as the revised front dampers with hydraulic compression stops, a sharper and more direct steering, and an Akrapovic exhaust for a deeper sound. Inside, the it gets a numbered R.S.-branded door sill, Alcantara and leather-trimmed steering wheel, carbon fiber trim air vent surrounds, and redesigned carpet mats. Since the R.S 18 is based on the Clio R.S 220 EDC Trophy, it uses same 217bhp 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as its 'normal' sibling.

Renault has released an official film covering aspects of its new hot hatch, the Renaultsport Megane R.S. It looks ready to battle the Civic Type R! Fitted with a 1.8-litre turbocharged engine that is shared with the Alpine A110, the car has a power figure of 276bhp and 390Nm of torque. It can be had with a six-speed manual or dual-clutch gearbox and puts its power down onto the road via the front wheels. Headlining features of the car include the new 4Control four-wheel steering which is said to improve agile in low speeds situation while increasing stability at higher speeds. It is finally available to the other part of the world, with sportier look, better interior and technical specification! Renault Arkana R.S. Line First shown in August 2018 as a showcar, the Renault Arkana is finally going on sale in Europe very soon. The mainstream coupe-crossover has been around on the Russian market since May last year and will be available on selected markets on the Old continent starting from the first quarter of next year. There are a number of very significant differences between the Russia-spec model and the new Euro-spec Arkana. First, the latter gets a more refined appearance mainly thanks to a new RS-Line package, as well as a wider range of personalization options courtesy of the new Color package. In addition, the interior is also much more classy and gets a vertical tablet-style screen for the infotainment system, as well as a fully digital instrument cluster in 4.2-, 7- or 10.2-inch versions depending on the trim. Despite its coupe-SUV shape, the Arkana offers a generous boot space of 18.1 cubic feet (513 liters) for the non-hybrid variants. But that’s not all. While the Arkana for Russia is powered by a 1.3-liter turbo gas engine, the Euro-spec model benefits from Renault’s latest hybridized powertrains. These include 140-horsepower (104-kilowatt) and 160-hp (119-kW) mild-hybrid versions of the 1.3 TCe engine, paired to a dual-clutch automatic gearbox, plus the E-Tech Hybrid 140 that’s already available in the Clio, Captur, and Megane. The French automaker says the latter is a new system that “has been the subject of more than 150 patents and is based on the Group's experience in electric vehicles and F1.” “Arkana is another example of how modernity and innovation are rooted in Renault’s DNA,” François Laurent, Arkana Program Director, comments. “It is a hybrid on all levels, and perfectly blends the codes of the coupe and the SUV, combining responsiveness with versatility. It brings a fresh impetus to the mainstream compact SUV segment which is core to the European market.”

Everyone at SgCarMart team loves the Megane R.S. It is one of the best hot hatch on sale but its latest Trophy-R variant thinks it can do better. With no confirmation on whether it will arrive on our shores or not, we can only rely on reviews from overseas publications whether it is good or not. Thankful, CAR Magazine has driven the car and uploaded a video review of it on track. Watch the video below and see how the most extreme version of the French hatch which is 130kg lighter than standard variant, tries to convince us it is one of Renault's greats.

Daniel Ricciardo has fun with the new Megane R.S. Trophy-R
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo has a go in the new Renault Megane R.S. Trophy-R at Goodwood. Interestingly, he chooses to go sideways up the hill. We have no idea why he did so but instead of going flat out on the hillclimb, Ricciardo choses to go sliding with the handbrake at relatively low speeds. We are sure he is having fun and we are also pretty sure the rear tyres is going to have a few flat spots after this peculiar run. As for the car, it is the current record holder at the Nurburgring for the fastest production front-wheel drive car and compared to the Megane R.S. Trophy, the Trophy-R is 130kg lighter and with 296bhp, the car will complete the century sprint in 5.4 seconds. It tops out at 262km/h and is only available with a six-speed manual gearbox.- 2 comments

Mitsubishi's Lancer Evolution making a comeback again?
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Mitsubishi has said before that it is not intending on making another Lancer Evolution. But there are reports that a new one is in the works. According to Autocar's article, it claimed that Mitsubishi is planning to revive the Lancer Evolution and build an 11th-generation model, as it found out from unnamed “Japanese-based sources”. It explained that Mitsubishi wants to spice up its lineup and try to cater to the enthusiasts. Using the CMF-C/D F4 platform from the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and parts that could be shared with the next-generation Megane R.S., the new Evo might sound like a possibility. While some reports cited that the car could be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder paired with the addition of a 48-volt mild-hybrid system, others said that it could use the existing 1.8-litre turbocharged lump found in the current Megane R.S.- 1 comment

With the new eighth generation of the Golf set to be launched in soon, fans have already asked what could be game-changing in the new Golf R. As reported by Carscoops, Jost Capito who is now the boss at Volkswagen’s R division, revealed that the new Golf R is unlikely to get a Drift mode. While we understand that the Golf R has always been the more restrained choice for the hot hatch enthusiasts, we couldn't help but imagine that Capito, who used to be with Ford, would implement such a feature. “The Focus RS feels geared up for fun above everything”, he said. “Drift mode is a free piece of technology that comes from the drive systems they’re using. But it’s not for us.” He was then questioned on whether the R needed a four-wheel steering system, like the current Renault Megane R.S. He replied, “it’s just not necessary on a car the size of the Golf” The new car is expected to have more than 300bhp but nowhere near the 400bhp mark as reported earlier in the year.

Hot N versions of Hyundai i20 and Tucson said to be coming
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Rumors of the Hyundai i20 and Tucson getting hotter N variants have been circulating before the launch of the i30 N. According to AutoExpress, both models have seem to be given the green light for production since then. Set to go on sale in about two years from now, the Tucson N will have around 335bhp, enabling it to hit 100km/h from a standstill in six seconds or so. Likely to be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, the car will go up against the Cupra Ateca and its other rivals. Naturally, the SUV will also benefit from the usual handling upgrades to make sure it can handle the extra power. As for the possible i20 N hatch, the Korean company feels that it needs a proper Ford Fiesta ST and Renault Clio R.S. rival. Set to debut next year, it will be blessed with the classic modern hot hatch formula: a electronic differential, front-wheel drive and a turbocharged engine that will produce more than 200bhp. -
Playstation gamers will get to choose from 162 different types of cars for the long-awaited Gran Turismo Sport racing simulation game. While 162 cars might sound impressive, its arch-rival, Forza Motorsport 7 will have more than 700 plus cars. An even more hardcore version of the Golf GTi Clubsport to come?
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Autocar has revealed that Volkswagen might be looking at adding an even more hardcore version of its spiced-up Golf GTI Clubsport to its range. Yet to arrive on our shores, the Golf GTi Clubsport is a more serious machine as compared to the normal Golf GTi with 286bhp produced from its 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine. Other than the jump in power, it also has its aerodynamics and handling fine-tuned for track use too. However, it seems like an even more powerful version of the Clubsport could appear and it is said to have around 300bhp. Catered even more for the track warriors, weight will be shed too with rear seats and sound deadening materials all removed. While the car has not been given the green light for production, expect it to rival similarly hardcore hot hatches such as the Renault Megane 275 R.S. Trophy R. -
The interior space of Megane R.S. combines these two essential components of automotive pleasure. Sport and comfort, that's why +1 to renault.

Powering the Twingo Gordini R.S will be a 1.2 liter TCe (Turbo Controlled Efficiency) with 100 PS (74 kW) or the dCi 85 diesel with 85 PS (63 kW).
