  1. I promised him I will start a thread for him so here goes. Congrats bro in your quest for your Class 2B license which you have embarked on since........... 11 November 2013 And I am not proud to say that you are currently still at Lesson 1 to date. Take this thread as your "hall of shame" (kidding la) for being the King of Procrastination or you could use it as a motivation and channel it to your advantage now that you have so many others here rooting for you (I am sure they will) haha. Will be documenting his whole progress here. @kobayashigt
  2. Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program) has published a list of the safest new cars in their respective classes for 2017. The cars are graded in four different categories, Adult Occupant Safety, Child Occupant Safety, Pedestrian Safety and Safety Assist. For those who are wondering, the Safety Assist category assesses the active and passive systems that are available. Example of these systems include seatbelt reminders and Autonomous Emergency Braking. Do note that its star ratings between different segments of models are not directly comparable. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l8KD94eFv6Y
  3. Three years after the current Mercedes-Benz’s S-Class has been revealed to the world, its facelifted version is almost ready to be launched. Photos of it has just been leaked online, ahead of its rumored double world premiere in April during the New York and Shanghai Auto Shows. Thanks to Saudishift, we can see that the lightly refreshed S-Class receives redesigned bumpers, new exhaust tips and trim at the rear, some minor adjustments to the tail light, and new LED head lights. Inside, the car gets a new steering wheel instead of the old two spoke design plus a refreshed and larger digital instrument and infotainment panel. Gesture control and an improved touchpad is rumored to feature too. Mechanically, the new car will get Mercedes's new 408bhp 3.0-litre turbocharged straight-six petrol engine that comes with an electric compressor and a 48-volt Integrated Starter-Alternator electrical system that promises to offer 'no turbo lag'. The revamped S-Class is set to go on sale in the third quarter of this year.
  4. After BMW had an unrivalled 7 seater MPV, hopefully MB will launch too, saw the extended 7 seater B class in google. There're few MPV with following criteria: - Euro NCAP 5 star - Less than 2.0L engine to avoid hefty road tax & petrol. - Petrol engine, do not wan to polllute even if disel engine is cheap. - reasonable 3rd row space. The choices are: Orlando, Touran, BMW G Tourer, Zafira, C4 G Picasso. That's it, so few!!! None of the above is appealing, can't wait for MB to launch their 7 seater!!!
  5. Kudos to him for doing the right thing! Stopped an interview when the national anthem was played! compare this to an incident where someone was SMS-ing during the national anthem! that person shd learn from this!
  6. I am buying one of these, new one from AD for my next 10 years usage, my annual driving is around 18k mileage, seldom do long distance drive. Reliability, how much do i need to set a budget for repair cost (not under servicing and maintenance) for these model typically for 10 years driving. What are the typical problem parts which need repairing? I am not sure how to choose, i am fine with all these car style and handling and electronics. Seeking advices from the many car gurus here, which car is a smart buy? considering cost and maintenance. Thank you.
  7. The new four-seater convertible, which is based on the C-class Coupe, gets its official unveil at the 2016 Geneva motor show this week. The new C-class Cabriolet keeps it under canvas with a fabric roof rather than a folding metal hardtop. This saves weight, which is good for efficiency, and it can fold away into a more compact space, which is good for luggage volume. Roof down, a swooping rear deck covers the convertible top and shows off the C-class Coupe-influenced rear end; note the way the number plate recess is in the bumper, not the boot lid - a cue Mercedes reserves for its sexier models. Rollover protection is taken care of by pyrotechnic cartridges, which fire from behind the seats should the worst happen. The electric motor-driven roof opens and closes in a little less than 20 seconds, and can do so while the car’s driving at more than 30mph. A black roof is standard but, depending on market, brown, blue and red are also available. An electric draught stopper behind the rear seats raises via the press of a button, and can be substituted for a larger, manual folding draught stop as an option. Also available is ‘AirScarf’ neck heating, so you can pose all year round. Mercedes has chosen to stir a little more excitement in the new convertible C-class range by launching with a performance model, the Mercedes-AMG C43 Cabriolet with all-wheel drive and a 362bhp, 380lb ft 3.0-litre V6 turbo engine. It’ll sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.8sec and has a top speed electronically limited to 250km/h. Just like the new AMG C43 Coupe, which is also making its debut at the 2016 Geneva show, the Cabrio gets a nine-speed automatic transmission, rear-biased ‘4Matic’ all-wheel drive and the same steering setup and dampers as the V8-powered AMG C63. It also gets a more aggressive bodykit and wheels, and lots of red stitching inside. The current steel and aluminium C-class platform was designed to be decapitated right from the start, so it’s stiff enough to handle plenty of power. Like the C-class Coupe, it features plenty of aluminium, with the wings, bonnet and bootlid all made from alloy. There’s a useful 360 litres of boot space, or 285 litres with the roof down, and the rear seat backs fold down 50:50. Like the Coupe the suspension’s a little lower than the saloon, by 15mm. Also helping the Cabrio look a little sportier, wheel size kicks off from 17 inches upwards. Steel springs are standard, a firmer ‘sports’ springs and dampers are an option for speed merchants, or ‘Airmatic’ air suspension for comfort-seekers. As per the C-class saloon and coupe, there’s plenty of tech on board. An autonomous emergency braking system, which can function at autobahn-friendly speeds of up to 200km/h, lane-keeping steering (and braking) assist, parking assist and a 360 degree camera system. It is unclear when or if this model arrives on our shores. So do stay tuned...
  8. SIA ordered to pay customer S$735 for downgrading ticket class An Indian consumer protection council has ordered the airline to compensate the customer for causing him “mental agony and hardship” by downgrading him from business to economy class without prior notification. File photo of a Singapore Airlines plane. (Photo: AFP/Miguel Medina) SINGAPORE: Singapore Airlines (SIA) has been ordered by an Indian consumer protection council to compensate a businessman 35,000 rupees (S$735) for downgrading his ticket from business class to economy without prior notice. According to a report in New Indian Express, the businessman, Mr GVK Reddy, had flown on flight SQ528 from Singapore to Chennai on Apr 19, 2011. However, he was told at the check-in counter that his business-class seat had been downgraded to economy class. As compensation, the airline gave him a S$600 voucher – the difference in the classes’ ticket price. Mr Reddy protested but had no choice but to take the seat offered by the airline, the report said. He later filed a legal notice with the airline seeking compensation of more than S$104,000 for costs including damages, deficiency of service, and causing him mental agony and pain. In a written reply, SIA argued that Mr Reddy was the last person to make a booking for a business class seat and was also the last to arrive for check-in, by which time, the business-class tickets were overbooked. The ticket conditions also make it clear to passengers that they may not be able to travel in their chosen class due to overbooking, the report quoted the airline as saying. The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum of South Chennai noted that the downgrade, without prior notification, “clearly amounted to a deficiency in service”, the report said. It ordered SIA to pay the customer 30,000 rupees (S$630) as compensation for mental agony and hardship, and to pay 5,000 rupees (S$105) for the cost of the proceedings within six weeks, the report said. wow want to seek 104k...hahahhha..laugh die me!!! mental agony and hardship...WTF
  9. According to Digital Trends, Elon Musk’s electric saloon is the king of the luxury sedan segment in America by managing to beat both the BMW 7 Series and the Mercedes-Benz S-Class in the third quarter of the year in terms of sales. While BMW sold 3,634 units of the 7 Series and Mercedes sold 3,138 units of the S-Class, Tesla managed to sell 9,156 units of its Model S. Tesla then went on to point out that "Our Q3 delivery count should be viewed as slightly conservative, as we only count a car as delivered if it is transferred to the customer and all paperwork is correct,” Worldwide sales of the Model S during that period amounted to 15,800 cars, while the Model X SUV, also posted an impressive Q3 result, with 8,700 cars sold. Three years after Tesla started, production has increased five times to 100,000 units. And with the upcoming entry-level Model 3 hitting the market soon, Tesla's future looks promising.
  10. Billed as the “most intelligent luxury sedan", Mercedes-Benz's 10th generation E-Class saloon sets to rewrite the benchmark in its class with its emotive design, high-grade interior, as well as its technical innovations. Built on Benz’s modular MRA platform that also underpins the latest C-Class and S-Class models, it grows 65mm at its wheelbase and 43mm in overall length. Despite the larger body, the new car is lighter than its predecessor. Displaying the hallmark Mercedes-Benz saloon proportions, will debut a number of high-tech comfort and safety features. Some of its cooler features include the touch-sensitive control buttons ('Touch Controls') on the steering wheel and the LED ambient lighting with 64 colour options. Mimicking BMW's 7 Series, it has an optional Remote Parking Pilot system that allows the vehicle to be moved into and out of parking spaces remotely using a smartphone app too. Powering the new E-Class will be a choice of two engines at market launch: the E200 with a four-cylinder petrol engine (184bhp) and the E220d with an all new four-cylinder diesel engine (195bhp). Other powertrains that will arrive in the future will include the E350e with a four-cylinder petrol engine (279bhp) featuring hybrid technology and the E400 4MATIC will represent the first step into the six-cylinder petrol engine ladder.
  11. Went to the IT Show yesterday, intending to buy a 32gb micro-SD card for my Blackvue. Was told it is advisable to get a Class 6 card. But the price diff between Class 4 and Class 6 is huge. 32gb class 4 = $39 32gb class 6 = $79 The price diff is ridiculous. Didn't want to be a sucker. I put off the purchase. Did some research. Found out that Class 4 is good enough for HD recording. www.sdcard.org/developers/overview/speed_class/ I did an experiment. Took out the 4gb Class 4 micro-SD card from my Blackberry. Format it to install Blackvue firmware. Did a few minutes of normal recording. The video quality was good. No jerky recording. Everything looked good.
  12. SIA used to own a 49% stake in Virgin Atlantic but that has been sold away. Still, when I flew to the USA recently, the route was to use Virgin Atlantic from Heathrow to Washington DC. I flew in the Upper Class cabin, which is their version of Business class. It was a very interesting experience indeed and I made many videos to share. So here goes. The Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse at London Heathrow Terminal 3 is legendary. It did live up to its name, though pity one of the large screen TV sets was not working. Part 1 - London Heathrow Club House and breakfast Part 2 - Exploring the rest of the clubhouse and getting a drink. Soon, it was time to make my way to the gates. Now, I move on to the flight experience. This was my first time on this airline in their premium cabin. I had read a lot about it before this flight, so here goes. Boarding. On first look, the cabin felt very cramped! Well, that has been well documented, but at least we all got aisle access and it does convert into a fully lie-flat bed. Pushback and takeoff. Time for lunch. The catering was decent. The utensils have plenty of character. Service was warm. Now this is where I become a glutton. I had two rounds of afternoon tea. First was the English Tea service and then their gourmet burger! Greedy I know. Finally, some GO PRO footage of the cabin. You can see the bar area too. It was fun.
  13. been trying to find the stock 17 inch B-Class rims but to no avail. So no choice but to get the standard 17 inch C-Class rims. It can fit B-Class, right? If anyone came across the stock 17 inch B-Class rims, please let me know. Thanks a lot.
  14. The next generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class is just round the corner and a couple of photos have been spotted floating around the internet. We have no idea where the photos come from but judging by the look of it through a handful of blurry images, they look like official materials. Not much else is known about the new sedan, which will be codenamed W213, but by looking at the photos, it probably safe to guess the new E-Class will get an overall similar look like its bigger brother, the S-Class. Expect at the station wagon, the coupe and the cabriolet version of the car to be introduced in the later part of 2016.
  15. Hi All, I am driving Hyundai Getz now. Its COE is due in one year time. I am 33 years old and earning $4k per month. I am car enthusiast and I wish to own a new Merc C class in the near future. Do you think it is possible to own a new Merc C class at my current salary level? If not, what should I do? Any kind soul please advice me...
  16. Hi Bros! Need some advise on where to change shock absorbers for my W169 A Class. My car shock absorbers are squeaky when I go over humps. Car has done around 80,000km. I brought to C&C for regular servicing and they want to charge me $180 to check the shock absorbers (just to check and not do anything!). They also said my undercarriage could be in bad condition and the shock absorbers could cost up to $10K to replace - naturally I declined, sounds way too expensive. Any suggestions on where else I can go? Thanks in advance.
  17. According to Mercedes-Benz, the new C-Class adopts a progressive approach with its clear yet emotional design and its elegant interior. And I can't really deny. The all new C-Class seems to be a major departure from its forefathers. It looks serious yet more focused, modern and rich. The C-Class is the biggest selling model series from the German marque and launch models will initially comprise the C180, the C200 and the C220 BlueTEC. The all new C-Class now measures 4,686mm long and sits 1,810mm wide with a 2,840mm wheelbase. In profile view, a long bonnet, a passenger compartment set well back and short overhangs define the C-Class's classic, well balanced Mercedes-Benz sedan proportions. Large wheels emphasise the rear and communicate a stylishly sporty character. There is a choice of two different faces. A sporty fascia with a centrally positioned star or the classic sedan radiator grille featuring the Mercedes star on the bonnet – limited to the Exclusive line. While halogen headlamps are standard, two energy-saving LED variants are available - a static system and a dynamic version with ‘LED Intelligent Light System’. The light signature will no doubt mesmerise onlookers and fellow commuters on the road. The Mercedes-Benz designers have styled the interior on a level with the carefully chosen high-class materials and their pleasant touch and feel as well as the precision of the finely crafted details The driver and front passenger enjoy plenty of space and luxury while Mercedes claims settling into one’s seat in the C-Class is akin to the uplifting feeling of being upgraded from economy to business class on a commercial jetliner - although that probably depends on which airline you are talking about doesn't it? A free-standing 7-inch wide central display dominates the centre console while a larger 8.4-inch wide screen is installed when specified with the COMAND Online system. Five round metallic air vents lend the dashboard a sporty touch and adds contrast to the warm look of the other materials – such as the wood in the centre console or the leather on the dashboard. The innovative touchpad in the handrest over the Controller and a head-up display are new additions to the C-Class range. Thanks to intelligent and innovative lightweight construction, the aluminium hybrid body is around 70kg lighter and aids in reducing the vehicle's overall weight by around 100kg. The lightweight construction cuts fuel consumption by up to 20 percent without any loss of performance, while at the same time enabling a lower centre of gravity, for a noticeably sporty and agile handling. Three engine variants are available at the market launch – a diesel in the guise of the C220BlueTEC and the two petrol models, C180 and C200. Five four-cylinder petrol engines rated from 156bhp to 238bhp will be available, including the special C180 ECO Edition. A six-cylinder petrol engine rated at 333bhp will follow in due course. The diesel engines will cover an output range from 115bhp to 204bhp. The C220 BlueTEC will also be optionally available with an output of 170bhp as the BlueEFFICIENCY Edition. A new small diesel engine with a displacement of 1.6-litre will also be added to the range. Depending on its configuration, the supercharged four-cylinder engine generates 115bhp or 136bhp of power and delivers 280Nm or 320Nm of torque. The new C-Class is also the only vehicle in the segment to offer tunnel detection via satellite navigation. It uses the map information from the navigation system and the GPS location data to close the air recirculation flap automatically when the vehicle enters a tunnel, subsequently re-opening it when the vehicle emerges from the tunnel. The new C-Class is also equipped with a unique avant-garde acoustic system while a Burmester surround sound system is optionally available.
  18. Hi all, Anyone tried watching movies on GV gold class or imax ? Care to share your experiences ? As in worth the $$ ?
  19. I am considering between these few cars for purchase in 2015. Mercedes-Benz E-Class Saloon BMW 5 Series Sedan Audi A6 Audi A5 Sportback Can bros here tell me which one you'll recommend and why? Important to me is : 1) driverability. ie, handling and power must be good. 2) as little maintenance problems as possible. I hate to go to the workshops to repair stuff, even if they are minor. Very time-wasting.
  20. In a few weeks the Geneva Car Show will open its gates, but today we can show you the first photos of a car that
  21. Never mind that COE premiums are skyrocketing - a small Mercedes has been replaced by a bigger Benz to become Singapore's top model. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class executive sedan is now the most popular car after the first nine months of 2013. This mid-sized saloon displaces another Merc, the compact C-Class sedan, which was the No 1 model in the first half of 2013, as it carried its momentum from being Singapore's most popular model in 2012. The E-Class's success can be attributed to its recent facelift. Called the "new" E-Class, it features a dramatically revised front end to align this usually conservative model with the three-pointed star's latest family look. "The makeover of the E-Class now appeals to both young and old buyers, and most of them view it as a brand new model even though it is already three years old," said the sales manager of a mid-sized dealership. At the same time, the attraction of the C-Class's 1.6-litre engine lost some of its lustre as the Category A small car COE premium soared and began consistently hovering near the Cat B big car premium. The sales manager added: "As the rising COE premium caused the C-Class to become more expensive, a few of those who were considering it looked to the new E-Class instead." The E200 model starts from about $240,000, while the compact C180 sedan is transacted at around $185,000. Mercedes-Benz remains Singapore's No 1 brand with year-to-date new passenger car registrations of 2,902 units (see table). This number includes both authorised and parallel imports but excludes taxis. But the BMW brand has managed to close the gap with its traditional rival. After nine months, BMW has notched up 2,889 units, or a difference of a mere 13 cars. In the first quarter of this year, the gap was more than 200 cars. The number of parallel imports for each brand is only about 160 to 170 units. Total E-Class registrations came up to 1,353 units from January to September 2013, while the C-Class tally is 1,086 units (see table). The pair of Mercs was followed by a pair of BMWs - the 5 Series with 1,026 units and the 3 Series with 948. Rounding up the top five is the Volkswagen Golf, which was introduced as a new model at the start of this year. Among the top five makes, Toyota is the only non-European - in fact, non-German - nameplate. The once popular Japanese and Korean marques slowed down in this high COE environment. After Toyota, the highest-ranked Japanese make is Mazda at No 7 with 470 new cars registered in the first nine months of 2013. It is followed by Nissan at No 8 with 466 units. A luxury make, Jaguar, is No 9 with 397 cars while Hyundai rounds up the top 10 with 378 units. But the Korean brand continues to dominate in the taxi segment, with a year-to-date registration of 811 cabs. From January to September 2013, only 17,102 new cars were registered in Singapore, down 19 per cent from the same period last year. Total new cars this year are on track to be the lowest in more than 15 years. Source: http://www.businesstimes.com.sg/premium/top-stories/mercedes-benz-e-class-no-1-20131028
  22. http://www.autoblog.com/2015/09/01/infiniti-q30-interior-frankfurt/ Infiniti is supposed to debut the all-new Q30 hatchback at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, but as the show is still a couple of weeks away and the company has elected to release yet another image, we aren't sure there'll be all that much to see come Sept. 15. With that in mind, then, we give you the first images of the entry-level hatch's cabin, and they're, um, wow. We knew the Q30 had a lot in common with the Mercedes-Benz A-Class but as these images show, this is far more than a common platform. The steering wheel, instrument cluster, switchgear, and shifter are direct from the Mercedes parts bin. From the looks of the images, the Q30 will even have a Mercedes-style key. This might not garner much attention in the budget ranks – take the Scion iA and Mazda2, for example – but this degree of parts sharing in the premium market is sure to raise some eyebrows. It's also a rather bewildering move for Infiniti. The company is, in effect, selling a Mercedes-Benz to any new customers it attracts. That'll certainly make a Q50 a hard sell when it comes time for an upgrade. Now, in Infiniti's defense, there are some differences in the layout here. The triple nozzle-style HVAC vents have been replaced with a more conventional pair of outlets, and the instrument cluster hood extends over the built-in navigation screen. That design decision, in particular, will certainly appeal to critics of the tacked-on-tablet look offered by Mercedes. The analog buttons for the multimedia system have also been tweaked, with the result looking far cleaner than the mess of buttons offered on Mercedes' products (we wouldn't be shocked to see this layout arrive on a facelifted A-, CLA-, or GLA-Class in the near future, though). Beyond those changes, though, there are multiple Mercedes design hallmarks here, including the location of the controls for the seat adjustments. So the A class is undergoing for a facelift soon taking on new steering wheels and switches, and Mercedes throw all the old parts to Infiniti?
  23. The new Mercedes-Benz SLC has an impressive heritage to live up to its predecessor, the SLK, which was launched in 1996, won fans around the world and achieved sales of around 670,000 units. Comprehensively refined and with a model line-up ranging from the high-torque and economical SLC 250 d to the sporty, high-performance Mercedes-AMG SLC43, the new model has what it takes to build on that success. The SLC250 d, SLC300 and SLC43 feature the sport/comfort-oriented 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission as standard, while it is available as an option for the new 115 kW (156 hp) SLC180 and for the SLC200. Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG, Mercedes-Benz Cars Sales & Marketing: "In 1996 Mercedes-Benz redefined the roadster with its innovative vario-roof, and combined open-air driving pleasure with uncompromised comfort in poor weather. The renamed compact roadster remains an ideal combination of passion and rational common sense, appealing to both the heart and the mind." As part of the facelift, the Mercedes-Benz designers have further honed the roadster's sporty look. The new front section, where the steeply raked radiator grille elongates the appearance of the arrow-shaped bonnet, is particularly striking. All SLC models feature a diamond radiator grille as standard. With DYNAMIC SELECT the vehicle characteristics can be adjusted instantly at the touch of a button, as the system modifies the engine, transmission, steering and suspension at the driver's behest. The new entry-level model is the SLC180 with an output of 115kW (156hp). It has a consumption figure of just 5.6 l/100 km and CO2 emissions of 127 g/km. Positioned above this are the SLC200 with an output of 135kW (184hp) and the SLC300 with 180 kW (245 hp), both of which feature a 1991cc 4-cylinder engine. The efficiency champion remains the 150 kW (204 hp) diesel model, the SLC250d, with a CO2 figure of 114 g/km. Driving Performance is the AMG brand promise -- and the Mercedes-AMG SLC43 lives up to it in impressive style. The new model combines a 270kW (367hp), 520Nm, 3.0-litre V6 biturbo engine with a modified version of the AMG sports suspension familiar from the Mercedes-AMG SLK55, and the combination is reflected in the sporty performance figures, with the SLC43 accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The Mercedes-Benz SLC-Class is expected to arrive at our shores in the 2nd half of 2016, so stay tuned...
