  1. VW reveals the new Touareg, but not for America. https://www.autoblog.com/2018/03/23/vw-touareg-revealed-not-for-us-943371/ Volkswagen has just revealed the latest version of its first modern SUV, the Touareg. It's bigger and is way more high-tech than its predecessors. And according to Volkswagen, it's not for us in the United States. Instead, it will just be launching in overseas markets such as China and Europe. As such, we'll be missing out on one of the more gadget-laden VWs we've seen. The SUV will be available with a 12-inch Digital Cockpit display for the instruments as well as a huge 15-inch infotainment screen, bigger even than the 12-inch monster in the Ram 1500. VW gave this combination a name that wouldn't be out of place in a car from the '50s, or maybe a tech company from the '90s, the Innovision Cockpit. Volkswagen says drivers can use these screens to adjust many settings to adjust how the car drives, and to control what's happening in the interior and personalize it. The technology isn't restricted to the infotainment. Handling is enhanced with four-wheel-steering and electronically adjustable anti-roll bars. A full complement of safety features includes night vision, front cross-traffic assist, LED matrix headlights and Roadwork Lane Assist. This is a semi-autonomous feature that will handle steering, braking and accelerating at speeds up to 37 mph. Volkswagen notes the new Touareg is longer and wider than the current model, but through the use of aluminum and high-strength steel, it's 234 pounds lighter. Powering the bigger, wider body will be a range of engines including two diesel V6s making 228 horsepower and 282 horsepower. A 335-horsepower gasoline V6, 415-horsepower diesel V8, and 362-horsepower hybrid powertrain will also be available.
  2. check this out!!! wonder if they have a diesel hybrid version. should be lagi fuel efficient. but again, who would buy a touareg and bother about fuel? VW should start releasing their amarock pigkarp which features their signature diesel turbo engine http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/Test%...906-298014.html By Samuel Ee BY NOW, almost everyone should be familiar with Volkswagen's strategy of engine downsizing, where the use of turbocharging beefs up the performance of a petrol engine with a relatively small displacement while still retaining excellent fuel economy. One example is the Golf hatchback. But with its big Touareg SUV, VW has gone about a different way to achieve this strategy - hybrid power. The Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid has a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain and it replaces the previous V8 petrol model as the top-of-the-line Touareg. With hybrid drive, there is no performance deficit - the supercharged 3.0-litre petrol engine works with an electric motor to produce the power of an eight-cylinder engine while providing the fuel economy of a six- or four- cylinder unit. At the same time, VW says that compared with a conventional SUV of the same size and power, its hybrid concept saves an average of 17 per cent in fuel under the combined cycle. On its own, the Touareg Hybrid's V6 engine churns out 333hp in power and 440Nm of torque. Combined with the E-motor electric motor's 46hp, the total system output is 380hp and total maximum torque surges to 580Nm. On the road, this translates to effortless acceleration. The big Hybrid literally zips along when the accelerator pedal is floored. And the progress is silky smooth with the new eight-speed automatic transmission. The performance advantage is clear despite the Touareg Hybrid weighing in at 2,240kg, or 205kg heavier than the 3.6-litre V6 petrol version. Yet, the fuel consumption is also good. The SUV employs a parallel hybrid drive configuration, which essentially means the Touareg can be powered by either engine or motor alone if required, and hence is more efficient for expressway driving. And in purely electric mode, it can be driven up to 50 kmh for about 2km. Another fuel-saving feature is its ability to coast. When the accelerator pedal is released, the engine is disengaged from the transmission. This eliminates drag torque losses and boosts fuel economy significantly. Also helpful is that the eight-speeder's top two ratios are both overdrive gears. But other than its green edge, it is difficult to understand why anyone would plumb for a Touareg Hybrid over either the less expensive V6 petrol version or even the V6 diesel. Unlike other hybrid SUVs on the market, it is not particularly silent. In fact, the Touareg Hybrid emits more noise under heavy acceleration. Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid Price: $277,300 (with COE) Engine: 2,995cc V6 supercharged Transmission: Eight-speed automatic Max Power: 333bhp @ 5,500rpm (380bhp with electric motor) Max Torque: 440Nm @ 3,000-5,250rpm(580Nm @ 3,000-5,250rpm with electric motor) 0-100kmh: 6.5sec Top speed: 240kmh Distributor: Volkswagen Group Singapore Website: www.volkswagen.com.sg Also, its handling isn't sporty enough to exploit the good low-end torque available. The optional $7,500 air suspension provides three modes of damping - comfort, normal or sport. But even with sport mode to enhance roadholding, the Touareg is let down by its vague steering. But like every other new Touareg, the Hybrid has its virtues. Its height offers a commanding driving position in a spacious cabin with a huge boot. And with the air suspension option, the loading of cargo can be made more convenient by lowering the tailgate using the controls near the boot opening. The high-riding Touareg is also a genuine SUV with 4Motion four-wheel-drive as standard for light off-roading, meaning it is more than capable of traversing either jungle plantations or the occasional flood-hit road in Singapore. In either situation, sporty handling isn't going to be the top priority for the Touareg driver.
  3. Volkswagen has just taken the wraps off its second-generation Touareg SUV that is slightly longer yet more than 200kg lighter than its predecessor and will be offered right from the beginning with a hybrid gasoline-electric powertrain. Set for a Geneva Motor Show debut on March 2 with European sales to follow in April, the new 2011 Touareg shares most of its underpinnings with the forthcoming 2011 Porsche Cayenne. The designers kept the basic shape of the current model and added a new face that's inspired from the firm's latest production and concept models such as the Golf VI, Polo and the NCC study. The new interior is also in line with Volkswagen's latest design DNA featuring several novelties including a pushbutton parking brake, and according to the Germans, the largest panoramic sunroof of all SUVs. The new Touareg is more spacious at the back and the rear bench now has 160mm in longitudinal adjustment with adjustable backrest angle. As an option, the rear seat can be electrically unlatched and folded down at the press of a button in which case, it frees up 1,642 litres of cargo space. Speaking of the interior, I find the combination of chrome and wood inserts rather untasteful and would prefer to have one type of furnishing instead. At launch, the new Touareg will be available with three engines including two turbo diesels and a gasoline-electric hybrid, all of which are offered with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission. The range kicks off with a 3.0-liter V6 TDI diesel that churns out 240HP and 405 lb-ft of torque. Next up is the 4.2-liter V8 TDI diesel with 335HP and a massive 590 lb-ft of torque. The highlight of the range is the new hybrid model that's mates a 3.3-liter supercharged V6 TSI producing 330HP and 265 lb-ft of torque with a 46HP electric motor for a combined output of 376HP and 428 lb-ft. The Touareg Hybrid, which can be driven up to 50 km/h in purely electric mode, sprints from zero to 100km/h in 6.5 seconds and returns a combined consumption 8.2lt/100km. More details will be released at the new Touareg's world premiere in Geneva.
  4. 3:20PM EDT October 14. 2012 - A Toyota Tundra pickup towed the retired space shuttle Endeavour across a freeway bridge in Inglewood, Calif., last night, a publicity coup that helped underscore Toyota's American connections. The shuttle is winding its way from Los Angeles International Airport to a museum near downtown Los Angeles. Most of the way, it is being towed by a tractor atop of a high-tech rig. But for about 100 yards, the crews needed to lighten the load to get it across the Manchester Avenue overpass to cross the San Diego Freeway. That's where the Toyota Tundra came in. As we've told you, Toyota has been practicing for months for the move. We learned last night that execs actually gave the operation an internal code name, Blue Ox, and that training began several months ago -- all for a move of about 100 yards. Indeed, the wait of few hours before the pull was mostly to get crews and equipment in place for the television commercial that Toyota is shooting. A director urged workers to pretend to inspect the rig carrying the shuttle at one point. "Give me a couple of guys in front of the tow hitch, please," he said. The pickup that did the pull was silver with 2-foot-tall Tundra letters written across the side. On the front end was written "Born in America," making it clear that Toyota, a Japanese automaker, wants to use the shuttle pull to once again try to get Americans to think of it as an American maker. The Tundra is made in San Antonio. Even though it practiced for months, pulling the 292,000-pound trailer turned out to be no big deal. The engine never even revved hard. When the truck started effortlessly pulling the shuttle -- in four-wheel-drive low, naturally -- the crowd of several hundred broke into a "USA, USA" chant. http://www.usatoday.com/story/driveon/2012...eavour/1631235/

    Race Touareg 3 unveiled

A few months after a prototype was spotted in the Alps, Volkswagen has officially unveiled the Race Touareg 3 (RT3). Based on the Race Touareg 2, the RT3 features an improved cooling system, revised carbon / Kevlar bodywork, a modified grille and LED-infused headlights. The footwear for the RT3 is a specially developed BF Goodrich 235/85 R16 tire. Other goodies include three limited slip differentials. Propulsion power is provided by a twin-turbocharged 2.5-liter TDI engine generating 296hp and 599 Nm of torque. It is connected to an upgraded five-speed sequential gearbox with a ZF-Sachs three-plate ceramic clutch. This allows the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 6.1 seconds and hit a top speed of 188 km/h. The fact that the RT2 won the Dakar Rally in 2009 and 2010 means that the RT3 will be the vehicle to beat for 2011.
  7. Volkswagen has added a new trim level to its Touareg range. The Exclusive Edition adds certain upgrades such as two-tone leather combinations and unique alloy wheels for a more individualized touch. These features were previously available as standalone items on the options list. Customers can choose between Pepper Beige/Titan Black combination or Dark Burgundy /Titan Black. The center sections of the seats are trimmed in what VW calls "Cool Leather", which is said to reduce surface temperature from intense sunlight. The leather seating system also treats occupants with heated front seats together with 12-way electric adjustment, electro-pneumatically adjustable lateral seat supports and head restraints with longitudinal and height adjustment. In addition, the package includes leather door inserts, stainless steel tread plates, a black roof-liner and special 'Olive Ash satin' wood trim. For the exterior, the Exclusive Edition adds machine-polished 19-inch "Girona" alloy wheels with 265/50 R19 tires or optionally 20-inch "Tarragona" wheels. A silver anodized roof railing is also fitted. The Exclusive Edition is available with all engine options in Germany. You may wish to check out the availability of this option with Volkswagen Centre Singapore.
  8. Just wondering, what are the specs of a VW Touareg? Was at the traffic light along Clementi rd this afternoon and a blue VW Touareg pulled along side me. First thing that caught my attention was the huge 21" rims clad in Michelin tyres, took a closer look and the blue brake calipers are freaking huge! It covers almost half the circumference of the rotor! Owner noticed me and I gave him a smile and , my intention was to let him know its a nice car thats all. Then came the green light and I witnessed the acceleration of that machine, he was at least 400m ahead of me by that time I reached 70km/h (driving normally). The way the vehicle accelerated was  , freaking fast and silent, I only managed to see a red "50" badge.
  9. This time, the Bavarian tuning specialist, ABT, concentrated on increasing the power of the German SUV, while keeping the exterior changes to a minimum.
