  1. What's an apple to apple comparison for a Mini? Not familiar with it generally. Maybe Golf GTI, Suzuki Swift, Yaris?
  2. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/706112/toyota-gr-yaris-rz-sebastien-ogier-kalle-rovanpera-edition/ Almost a year to the day, Toyota announced two GR Yaris "concepts" at the 2023 Tokyo Auto Salon. They were the GR Yaris RZ Kalle Rovanpera and Sebastien Ogier Editions, wearing special appearance packages and tuned with bespoke drive modes befitting the WRC drivers for which they're named. The concepts came with a promise that, eventually, folks could buy one. That time has finally come. In the year that's passed since the debut, the GR Yaris received a big facelift. So the new models look a bit different. The core elements are the same though; Ogier's car is finished in a dark shade called Matte Stealth Gray, which helps accentuate the blue brake calipers behind those sharp 18-inch BBS wheels. A special rally spoiler made from carbon fiber reinforced plastic adorns the hatch, and you'll find a few decals honoring Ogier's WRC success and his home country of France. Rovanpera's car is brighter, wearing a version of his three-tone racing livery with special logos and WRC accolades. The rear wing is identical to that on the GRMN Yaris. Moving inside, both cars have special badging and contrast stitching unique to each edition. You'll also find exclusive full TFT gauge displays that show specific drive modes for each car. But the modes are far different than the gravel and track settings you'd find on a normal GR Yaris. The Ogier Edition gains Morzio Mode, which Toyota describes as "restraint (direct connection) maximally applied to the front and rear wheels during acceleration and relaxed only as necessary during braking." You also get SEB Mode, named for Ogier and tuned to send more power to the rear wheels versus the As for the colorful Rovanpera Edition, it gains a colorfully named Donut Mode which ensures "slide control during drifting." That sounds like a drift mode to us. There's also the KALLE Mode, which incorporates a different rear differential for "aggressively swinging out the vehicle's rear when entering a curve and pulling forward the vehicle's front using the accelerator." That also sounds like a drift mode to us, but one with a bit more emphasis on getting very sideways. Obviously, these special editions won't head to America, as the GR Yaris isn't sold here. Toyota will build just 200 total – 100 each – and you'll have to participate in a lottery starting in the spring for the chance to buy one. So the odds of seeing them anywhere will be very slim. Should you be chosen, you'll get the car and some neat VIP perks like meeting the drivers. There's no mention of price, though we suspect these cars will be a bit more expensive than your average GR Yaris.
  3. Basically a Toyota Yaris Cross in a tuxedo. Rumors of a fancier Yaris Cross have been swirling around for years and now the Lexus LBX is officially here. Positioned below the UX and serving as the new entry-level model, the tiny crossover is an indirect replacement for the defunct CT hatchback. It rides on the same GA-B platform as its Toyota sibling but with different styling to better fit Lexus' design language both inside and out. The LBX is 4,190 millimeters long, 1,825 mm wide, and 1,545 mm tall, while having a wheelbase of 2,580 mm. Riding on 18-inch wheels as standard equipment, the petite Lexus is actually slightly bigger than the Yaris Cross and tips the scales at 1,280 kilograms. It will be offered with a choice between front- and all-wheel drive, with all configurations coming exclusively with a continuously variable transmission. At the heart of the LBX is a hybrid powertrain based around a three-cylinder, 1.5-liter gasoline engine. It produces a combined output of 134 horsepower (100 kilowatts - just nice in cat A) and a maximum torque of 185 Newton-meters. It's enough electrified punch for a 0 to 100 km/h run in 9.2 seconds and a maximum towing capacity of 750 kilograms. All versions of the latest Lexus get a MacPherson strut front suspension while the rear uses a torsion beam for the FWD models and a double wishbone if you opt for AWD. Although the technical specifications for the latter have yet to be disclosed but it will add an electric motor at the rear. Interestingly, the small crossover has an aluminum hood as well as molded resin wheel arches, rockers, and lower door sections to keep weight down. Stepping inside, the LBX boasts a 12.3-inch fully digital instrument cluster with an optional head-up display joined by a 9.8-inch touchscreen. The infotainment supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, but only the former has wireless connectivity. Lexus has once again teamed up with Mark Levinson, which supplies the 13-speaker sound system that comes along with a subwoofer. Stick to the front-wheel-drive model and you get a cargo capacity of 332 liters with the rear seats in place. The AWD-equipped LBX is likely to be less practical due to the extra hardware installed at the back. Lexus mentions it hasn't made any compromises in terms of quality and attention even though this is the new entry-level model. The LBX is the company's first model for which development primarily took place in Europe. It's scheduled to enter production by the end of this year and go on sale in Europe along with additional markets in early 2024.
  4. Toyota shows how GR Yaris is made, hints at more GR cars source: https://uk.motor1.com/news/429886/toyota-gr-yaris-factory-video/ Toyota wanted an assembly line that could mass produce sports cars of a consistently high quality. The Toyota GR Yaris seems like a fantastic, little hot hatch. In a recently released video, the automaker shows the assembly line that builds the GR Yaris and would probably handle assembly of future performance vehicles, too. The dedicated GR production line is at Toyota's Motomachi factory. The automaker set it to move assembly through various cells that allow for more work by hand than a standard vehicle at this plant. As the company describes the strategy in the video, the goal is to have a place that can "produce millions of sports cars without any difference in quality." A GR Yaris is not just the standard model with a few different parts. For example, there's an additional 11 metres of structural adhesive and 200 extra welds in an effort to boost rigidity. Technicians handle adjusting the alignment on each car. "With its new manufacturing methods, the GR facility is capable of handling multi-type, small-volume production, without compromising productivity," Toyota writes in the description for this video. While the statement is hardly definitive, it lends further credence to the idea that the GR Yaris is not a one-off undertaking. After making the investment to set up this production line, abandoning the effort so quickly wouldn't make much sense. The rumors are that the Corolla or the C-HR are most likely to be the next vehicles to get the GR treatment. Either of them could be fun with the GR Yaris' turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder making 257 bhp and 266 lb-ft. Plus the hot hatch has a three-mode, all-wheel-drive system that lets owners select the torque split.
  5. Source: https://www.motor1.com/news/599173/toyota-yaris-gr-sport-japan-debut/ The Toyota Yaris Cross GR Sport is a new variant of the little crossover that's launching in Japan. More than just a styling tweaks, the company gives this vehicle a stiffer body and a revised suspension. The Yaris Cross GR Sport features extra bracing in the center of the underbody and at the rear. Toyota says this provides improved steering stability and less body roll. The revised suspension lowers the ride height by 0.39 inches (10 millimeters). The company also tweaks the tuning for the springs, shocks, and electric power steering. The Yaris Cross GR Sport rides on 18-inch Falken FK510 tires. With the hybrid powertrain, the Yaris Cross GR Sport has an upgraded powertrain controller that provides an improved accelerator pedal response. Toyota also tweaks the small crossover's styling by adding mesh grilles to the front and rear. The brake calipers get a coat of red paint, and the model rides on 10-spoke wheels. Inside, the Yaris Cross GR Sport gets special front seats that are a mix of the material Air Nubuck and synthetic leather. There's a leather-wrapped, three-spoke steering wheel with the GR logo on it. The front portion of the center console has dark gray metallic paint. The shift knob has a leather covering. The pedals get aluminum covers. The GR Sport is available with a pair of 1.5-liter three-cylinder engines. One version makes 118 horsepower (88 kilowatts) and a hybrid variant of this mill has 90 hp (67 kW). While the Yaris Cross is available with all-wheel drive, this model only comes with a front-drive layout.
  6. CX5 spacious? The Corolla Cross is a compact crossover (yaris cross is subcompact). Whereas the CX5 is supposed to be a mid size crossover (but is actually more like a compact). How ridiculously bad is mazda at maximising cabin space? Well out of these 3 cars, Rav4/CX5/CRV. The CX5 has the longest wheelbase but the least rear legroom by quite a margin. My kids are comfortable in the back but their waterbottles hanging off the car hooks is in between their knees. And this is with myself having a much more upright seat compared to my usual driving position in a sedan. For myself, i sure won't want to seat in the backseat on a longer drive. I'm 1.8m and i can see the HUD just fine leh. Mazda is for singles/couples and some families where everyone is bit smaller size lah. Dunno how those bui bui americans fit in a mazda. Looks swee, best jap interior but really the cabin space is at best barely acceptable.
  7. Seems like the 5G Prius is a popular choice of hire car for Singaporeans in Japan, myself included. So here's my contribution. I had the car for a week, a G Grade 2.0 FWD with the M20A-FXS Dynamic Force engine and latest hybrid system. I would never have imagined myself having this much fun in a Prius, but I did. The 2.0 engine has loads of torque to induce wheelspin when pulling away from the (dry) ETC toll-gate, but that's probably due to the skinny 195/50R19 tyres. Styling wise, you can see how low slung it is compared to the sporty GR Yaris. The interior is a pleasant place to be in with a leather-rimmed steering wheel, comfy seats and ambient lighting livening up the otherwise dark interior theme. It had a 8 inch touchscreen with carplay and all the modern connected services that can be accessed via an app. One criticism will be that the instrument cluster is blocked by the top of the steering wheel rim, which is otherwise clear and informative. The boot is very shallow; it did swallow our 2x 28in luggages and a cabin roller but not without the edges of the luggage wedged against the lift gate glass. Will be interesting how it fares as a taxi here in Singapore in this case. Final thoughts; it's a bit of a bummer that Borneo is selling what I believe to be the base spec with the previous gen 1.8 2ZR engine, although not surprising given our taxing approach to car ownership in Singapore (pun intended). I suspect one may be better off getting the Corolla Cross Hybrid which comes with the same 2.0 drivetrain, albeit in a less sexy but more practical body.
  8. Urban life presents particular challenges. When it comes to driving, it's an environment where motorists increasingly appreciate the robust, high-riding qualities of an SUV, but on a scale tailored to suit urban streets and with a genuine emphasis on environmental performance. At the same time, drivers want a vehicle that's distinctive and stylish, and which has all the flexibility they need for an active lifestyle. These are exactly the qualities Toyota has instilled in the all-new Toyota Yaris Cross. The new Toyota Yaris Cross has been designed and developed for Europe, specifically to meet the requirements and preferences of the region's B-SUV market. It will be made in Europe too, at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France (TMMF), alongside the new generation Yaris hatchback, from 2021. True hybrid, true SUV The new Yaris Cross draws on Toyota's strong heritage of advanced hybrid technology, small car design and SUV engineering. Toyota's world leadership in hybrid vehicle technology includes the first use of a hybrid system in a B-segment car with the original Yaris Hybrid in 2012. The unmatched experience it has gained ensures that Toyota Yaris Cross's new fourth generation hybrid powertrain delivers exceptional performance and efficiency. As a member of the Yaris family, Yaris Cross is constructed on Toyota's new GA-B compact car platform. It also shares the "big-small" design and packaging concept that characterised the original Yaris, and presents a roomy interior within compact exterior dimensions. Toyota Yaris Cross is also a genuine SUV, benefiting from Toyota's experience in originating the concept of the recreational SUV 25 years ago with the RAV4 - today the world's best-selling SUV - and more recently in producing the stylish and highly efficient C-HR. A raised ride height and the availability of AWD-i intelligent all-wheel drive reinforce its authentic SUV credentials. Adding Yaris Cross to the line-up will give Toyota an SUV range that spans the B, C and D segments. New hybrid powertrain Yaris Cross benefits from Toyota's fourth generation hybrid technology. Toyota successfully pioneered the use of full hybrid technology in B-segment cars with the introduction of the first Yaris Hybrid hatchback in 2012. Since then, more than half a million have been sold in Europe, making it a powerful tool in building public awareness and appreciation of the technology. The Yaris and Yaris Cross are the first models to use Toyota's latest 1.5 hybrid system, developed directly from the larger 2.0 and 2.5-litre powertrains used by recent new models such as the Corolla, C-HR, RAV4 and Camry. This features a new 1.5-litre, three-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol engine, precision-engineered to reduce friction and mechanical losses and optimise combustion speed. The result is high torque at low engine speeds and excellent fuel efficiency. The engine's thermal efficiency is rated at 40%, which is greater than comparable diesel engines and ensures strong fuel economy and low CO2 emissions. The new hybrid system has a maximum output of 116 DIN hp. Special attention has been given to power delivery, making the system very responsive to drive. In terms of emissions efficiency, the front-wheel drive model starts from below 90 g/km CO2 and the AWD-i version from below 100 g/km. Toyota GA-B platform Toyota Yaris Cross follows its sibling hatchback model in adopting Toyota's new GA-B vehicle platform. This ensures a high level of body rigidity and a well-balanced chassis, making the car responsive and agile. All urban. All SUV With the Yaris Cross, Toyota has produced an authentic SUV on a smaller scale, giving customers the higher driving position, practicality and interior spaciousness, they desire in a car with compact dimensions that make it well-suited to urban driving. The design evokes the classic qualities of SUVs, with a higher body and larger wheels/tyres communicating strength and purpose. Toyota Yaris Cross has the same 2,560 mm wheelbase as the new Yaris hatchback, but is 240 mm longer overall, with 60 mm added to the front overhang and 180 mm to the rear, securing more interior space. The ground clearance is 30 mm higher and the vehicle is taller and wider overall - by 90 and 20 mm respectively. Practical and Versatile Being a true SUV, special attention has been given to practicality and versatility. There's a power back door for when your hands are full. And an adjustable deck height to give the flexibility of either a secure underfloor compartment or increased trunk space for larger loads. In addition, the deck board itself can be split in two, giving customers both increased space and an underfloor storage area. The trunk is also equipped with a new flex belt system to secure items and stop them shifting during driving. Yaris Cross is just as spacious as it is practical. With all seats up and tonneau cover in place it delivers a large trunk volume. However, if more load capacity is needed, then there's a 40:20:40 foldable rear seat system to balance rear passenger space with cargo needs. Intelligent all-wheel drive One of the features that defines the new Toyota Yaris Cross as an authentic SUV is the availability of an intelligent all-wheel drive system - a unique feature in its class for a hybrid model. AWD-i provides extra stability and traction in everyday driving, in poor conditions and on low-grip surfaces. An electric system, it is more compact and weighs less than mechanical AWD units, helping the Yaris Cross Hybrid AWD-i achieve lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than any of its all-wheel drive B-SUV competitors. The system directs drive torque to the rear axle when pulling away and when accelerating. In normal driving, the Toyota Yaris Cross operates with front-wheel drive, but when low-grip conditions are detected, all-wheel drive is engaged automatically. This can be, for example, on wet cobblestones, in heavy rain, on wet or packed snow, or on sand. Advanced Driver Assistance System The foundation of the new Yaris Cross's safety performance is its GA-B platform, giving the car an exceptionally rigid body. With the intention of meeting the highest and most rigorous independent test standards, it will further benefit from Toyota Safety Sense active safety systems and advanced driver assistance functions, helping to avoid a wide range of common accident risks through driver information, early warnings and, when necessary, automatic braking and steering intervention. Design The design process of Toyota Yaris Cross brought together a wide team from studios in both Europe and Japan. To describe their ideas and inspiration in more detail, please find below the words of one member of the team - Lance Scott, Design General Manager at Toyota's EDD studio in Nice, France. "When we started this process, we understood that whilst style is the number one purchase reason in the B-SUV segment, customers were also keen to have a high level of practicality. Not easy things to reconcile, especially in a compact package. From the very beginnings of the design concept, we had the European customer in mind, but needed to understand more about them. So we went out and interviewed real customers to understand their lifestyle, what they liked, what their daily activities were and how they enjoyed themselves. After an enjoyable and enlightening process, we came back enthusiastic to design a car that would mirror their personality and deliver a vibrant combination of being both sophisticated and energetic. As a team, we came up with the key words 'Robust' and 'Minimalistic', which we felt would express both compactness and agility, as well as the robustness and strength of an SUV. When we started to sketch ideas for the exterior, the iconic image of a diamond consistently came to mind. Subsequently we coined the phrase 'nimble diamond' to express the hard, strong and premium image of the gemstone combined with the agile and fun to drive personality we felt the car needed to convey. From the top view, or plan view as we call it, we 'cut', or 'shaved' the body to give us a diamond shape that allowed us the space to emphasise the fenders. This diamond body shape combined with the 4 bold fenders gave us an energetic shape which was both strong and sophisticated. Clearly, we want the car to be immediately perceived as a SUV, so we emphasised a higher ground clearance, a strong horizontal axis giving a great balance and poise, big squared wheel arches and of course big wheels ... up to 18"! The face was also a very important aspect for us. We wanted to keep the strong DNA of Toyota's SUV line-up but at the same time give Yaris Cross an identity of its own. At the rear, we again focused on giving the car a good stance with the wide fenders illustrating how it looks planted on its wheels. Combining the horizontal rear tail lamps and rear screen clearly shows family identity with Yaris, yet the wider and more squared tailgate hints at the luggage space's larger flexibility for daily usage. For the exterior colour, we started to think about something that could express an active and high-quality image that our target customers would really appreciate. Looking at future colour trends we can see that there is a growing tendency for gold and other precious metals, but we wanted to offer something a bit more natural and urban. Adding a subtle hint of green to the gold direction, whilst also de-saturating the colour to emphasis the metal like appearance, gave us this fresh urban yet active appeal that highlighted the surface form of the exterior. The final result is a colour we call Brass Gold" Toyota expects to produce more than 150,000 Yaris Cross a year at the TMMF Onnaing factory, near Valenciennes in France, and achieve a B-SUV segment share of more than 8%.
  9. https://carsnkopi.wordpress.com/2024/01/31/tokyo-auto-salon-2024-the-return-of-jdm-the-return-of-the-tokyo-auto-salon/ It's back baby. As you may have guessed, I’m back in Singapore! Well, I’ve been back for a little over a week now, with the usual symptoms of missing Japan still lingering. The trip was a whirlwind, full of new experiences and visits to my favorite spots. Now, let’s talk about the 2024 Tokyo Auto Salon. Well, going by last year’s rather quiet and lacklustre event that saw half of a main hall shared with the Tokyo Outdoor Show (I call it, the Tokyo Camping Show). If you thought the event was losing its charm, I wouldn’t blame you. However, this year felt different right from the approach to Makuhari Messe. Even on media day, the crowd was noticeably larger, creating a palpable buzz of excitement in the air. Everyone was eager to be the first inside. Once I stepped in, any concerns of this year’s event being a repeat of 2023 were immediately dispelled—it was packed! This time around, the theme was clear: JDM builds are back! Undoubtedly, Toyota’s commitment to creating more exciting cars like the GR Yaris, GR Corolla, Supra, and the brand new 86 played a significant role. The latter, in particular, has been garnering praise worldwide. And who can blame them? A fantastic-looking, fun-to-drive, and highly practical sports car starting at SGD$28,000 is something everyone should desire! Well, everyone except those residing in Singapore, where the same car costs almost ten times as much. Woe be unto us. However, it’s worth noting that the continuously expanding European presence hasn’t diminished with both BMW and Mercedes-Benz present to showcase their latest offerings for the enthusiast market in addition to the numerous aftermarket tuners who have brought along their Euro projects. This year also marked an increased presence of EVs with a number of hopped up Teslas on display and even Hyundai themselves unveiling their ‘IONIQ 5 N NXP1′ concept. But more on that in a future post. Covering over 11 halls and an outdoor space in a weekend, once again, a daunting task. By the end of day two, that was even more packed with visitors, I still hadn’t had the time to visit the outdoor exhibits, yes, even after skipping my lunches. This year’s exhibition was undeniably massive, prompting me to prioritize the well-being of myself and my tired feet by skipping day three. Understandably, I have gathered a ton of content from this year’s event to be shared over the next month (or perhaps months?). So, please bear with me as I sift through the thousands of photos to compile my reports. The Tokyo Auto Salon? As far as I’m concerned, it’s back baby. And it’s mad once again! Stay tuned!
  10. Yes. Gone are the days of Subaru and Mitsubishi. Now the Toyota GR Yaris sweeping the entire rally rankings for sometime now. Still have Hyundai i20 N, Ford Puma, Skoda Fabia RS, Citroen C3, Ford Fiesta, Renault Clio RS, VW Golf Polo lining up the Group Rally 1,2,3. All these small hatchbacks NOT sold in Singapore anymore. 😑
  11. Look at what Tokyo Auto Salon have here. They have Toyota's Chairman Akio Toyoda (Morizo) performing drifting in a GR Yaris. And who is Russ Swift??
  12. <Toyota GR Corolla Teased with a Game of I Spy Toyota dropped a teaser on Instagram with tons of hidden clues about the upcoming hot hatch, which is expected to use a 268-hp three-cylinder engine. TOYOTA Toyota teased the upcoming GR Corolla hot hatch with an image shared on Instagram that featured hidden clues detailing the new model. The GR Corolla will be powered by the same turbocharged 1.6-liter three-cylinder engine as the global GR Yaris. The GR Corolla is expected to debut sometime next year and go on sale as a 2022 model in the U.S. Ever since Toyota debuted the GR Yaris hot hatch and said that it wouldn't be sold in the United States, we've been itching for a version of one that we could buy here. After all, Toyota needs something to compete with the likes of the Honda Civic Type R, Volkswagen Golf R, and Hyundai Veloster N. Good thing Toyota isn't leaving us behind, because we're getting a GR Corolla soon. The company just dropped a teaser image on its Instagram account that give some hints of the new raucous hot hatch. WHAT WE EXPECT THE GR COROLLA TO LOOK LIKE. | ILLUSTRATION BY BEN SUMMERELL-YOUDE/FOX SYNDICATION | CAR AND DRIVER Naturally, the users over on the GR Corolla forum were quick to point out all the hints, which are scattered around an image of a standard Corolla's interior like a game of I Spy. GR stands for Gazoo Racing and is used on the Supra and the new GR86 sports car. The time indicated on the gauge cluster is G:16, which refers to the G16E-GTS turbocharged three-cylinder engine that's used in the GR Yaris. The 268-hp output of that powerful engine's Japanese version is found on the climate controls in the teaser image. European versions make 268 horsepower and 266 pound-feet of torque, and the engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. That's not all. There's even a camouflaged GR Corolla hatchback in the background of the image (we tried to zoom in; you can't see much, sadly). There's a GR Four road in the navigation system, which refers to the advanced all-wheel-drive system that has Torsen limited-slip differentials in the front and the rear and an electronically controlled center differential. Look for more details on the new GR Corolla soon, as Toyota is sure to trickle out details about the new hot hatch before its reveal, likely next year, since it released almost all the details on the new Tundra pickup before its official debut.>

  14. Crazy pricing is one thing. But a Lexus without rear aircon vents, and without a rear center seat folder to put drinks, and the size of a Yaris Cross (not even a Corolla Cross)? There will be people who buy based on the badge alone?
  15. went for a preview of the LBX two days back. The interior is really a super souped up version of Yaris Cross. Very posh and high quality in the front. Seats are really good, center console is nice also, extends all the way from front to the back. Backseats starting to see more plastics and without rear aircon. As usual, backdoor cannot open too wide, same as YC. Overall looks not bad! I think early bird pricing also okay, official pricing will be out next month. Lower trim coming in Q2 2024.
  16. NGL, no one likes it when another driver attempts to squeeze past your parked car for fear of getting damaged. However, it is a whole different story if you "parked" your car like an inconsiderate driver like this elderly woman: What Happened? An elderly lady decided to park her Toyota Yaris Cross aCROSS two lanes at the pickup/drop-off point of Marina Bay Sands. After that, she opens her car door and proceeds to alight from the SUV. Just then, the cam car driver that approached from behind attempted to squeeze past her Toyota SUV and a stationary Lexus. And for some reason, the elderly lady 'explodes' at the cam car by shouting and gesturing at him to stop sternly. She subsequently reached out for her footwear and seemed like she was gonna use it to smack the cam car. But it turns out she bent down to pick up her mask that fell on the ground when she opened her car door LOL. TBH, considering that she parked her car at a pickup/drop-off point and across two lanes, does she need to be so aggressive towards another motorist trying to navigate his way around the inconvenience she caused? Netizens' Comments OOF. Shots fired! She really parked her car + open her car door as if MBS is owned by her. That makes the both of us LOL. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Join us today!
  17. All the car you mentioned are CUV. WRV ground clearance (220mm) is closer to SUV. HRV/Vezel ground clearance is 18xmm. Yaris cross ground clearance is 16xmm.
  18. HRV/Vezel is CUV. This one more like a crossover similar to Yaris cross.

  20. Source: https://uk.motor1.com/news/692411/toyota-direct-automatic-transmission-anticipates-shifts/ In 2023, automakers are eager to talk about that hot-new electric motor or battery pack that will be going into the next-generation EVs. Toyota is also dead set on electrifying its lineup from top to bottom, but it believes the transition shouldn't be rushed. In the meantime, it's still working on new hardware intended for cars with internal combustion engines. It's a sign the Japanese brand believes the ol' ICE isn't on its deathbed just yet. After Toyota chairman Akio Toyoda referred to the upcoming Direct Automatic Transmission as being a game changer, Japanese racing driver Hiroaki Ishiura is also praising DAT. He tested a GR Yaris with the new slushbox and is confident it's faster than a manual, so much so you won't be losing any time while going through the gears on a race track. Speaking for the official Toyota Times magazine, Hiroaki Ishiura added: "It locks in from the moment you set off, responding linearly to gas pedal input and allowing you to shave time off your laps without any loss. DAT senses when you're braking fully and downshifts for you to prepare for the next acceleration. It anticipates the actions ahead, just as we normally do when driving." Toyota says it has been working on this new gearbox since the second half of 2020. Although it's only been tested in motorsport so far, reports from Japan state the GR Yaris will get an eight-speed, torque-converter automatic in 2024. For now, the official word is that DAT is being developed to encourage more people to get into motorsport by making it easier to race after removing the clutch pedal. Hiroaki Ishiura says a conventional automatic transmission "feels slippery" and provides "little sense of a direct connection" whereas DAT mimics the behaviour of a driver that rows their own gears. The engineering team came up with the idea of a faster automatic after Akio Toyoda said he wanted "to spread the joy of driving" because not a lot of people know how to drive a manual.
  21. I currently drives a Yaris Cross, interested in switching to LBX though!
  22. TL;DR – A Toyota Yaris driver makes a wide turn, ends up on opposing lane upsetting a couple of motorcyclists who made gestures at him. Unhappy, the driver confronts them and even takes out a weapon from his car. This incident happened earlier today (2nd August 2021). A road raging Toyota Yaris driver whips out a weapon from his car in anger and it’s all been recorded on video! Here’s the video for your viewing pleasure. What right do you have to be angry sir? At the start of this 94-second video, we see a red Yaris making a wide turn and ending up on the opposing lane. He’s clearly in the wrong from the get go, so what right has he got to be angry? Gangsta uncle The motorcyclist reportedly made a gesture at the Yaris which infuriated the driver. If I’m not wrong, I heard the uncle say To which the biker replies Followed by short inaudible dialogue and a long uncomfortable silent stare down. The motorcyclist in front, presumably a friend tries to step in to defuse the situation. But does that help? Nope. Uncle has a weapon, I repeat, Uncle has a weapon! The uncle goes to his car to take out a weapon. Is that a fishing rod? Maybe it’s a golf club? Someone said it looks like a Samurai sword but I’m going to go with fishing rod. A lady tries to calm the angry Uncle but it did not seem to work. The video then cuts off leaving us to wonder what the heck happened after. Online Chatter I think anyone’s lj would tbh. All plausible scenarios Want to know what I think? I think if you’re in the wrong, and you know you’re in the wrong, just shut the hell up and go on your way. See la, now you’re going to be famous. Please don’t find me and beat me with your fishing rod. --- Thinking of selling your car? sgCarMart Quotz guarantees the highest selling price for your car.
