  7. June 10, 2009 Oil prices hit 2009 high SINGAPORE - OIL prices soared above US$71 (S$103) a barrel on Wednesday in Asia, reaching a 2009 high, as investors poured money into the commodity as a hedge against a weakening US dollar and inflation. Benchmark crude for July delivery was up US$1.41 at US$71.42 a barrel by late afternoon Singapore time in electronic trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange. On Tuesday, it jumped US$1.92 to close at US$70.01. Oil has jumped more than 100 per cent in three months as traders have cheered news showing the worst of a severe US recession is likely over, and have brushed off data - such as a 9.4 per cent unemployment rate in May - that suggest crude demand will remain weak. 'I wouldn't be surprised if we're testing US$80 in a week or two,' said Mr Gerard Rigby, energy analyst with Fuel First Consulting in Sydney. 'The momentum right now is too strong.' A weaker US dollar and expectations massive fiscal stimulus spending could spark inflation have also bolstered prices. The euro was steady at US$1.4073. The Energy Department's Energy Information Administration said on Tuesday that crude prices will likely average US$67 a barrel in the second half of 2009, about US$16 higher than the first six months of the year. A month ago, the EIA's price-per-barrel forecast for the second half of 2009 was US$55. The Energy Department also said global consumption of oil, which has fallen by nearly 2 million barrels per day this year, will begin to rebound in 2010 as the economy recovers. Wednesday's release of petroleum inventory data from the EIA could provide additional insight about crude demand. Analysts expect a rise of 800,000 barrels. In other Nymex trading, gasoline for July delivery rose 2.11 cents to US$1.99 a gallon and heating oil gained 2.58 cents to US$1.83. Natural gas for July delivery was up 6.3 cents at US$3.80 per 1,000 cubic feet. In London, Brent prices gained US$1.25 to US$70.87 a barrel on the ICE Futures exchange. -- AP

  11. Dear All, I am currently looking for an independent witness who has seen an accident at Bukit Batok West Ave 6 on 14 Feb 2009 (Valentines Day) at about 6.00pm. My van (GY2755C) was turning into the carpark of Blk 185 when this taxi (SHA423M) made a U-turn and hit into my van. However, the taxi driver is saying that he is traveling straight and did not make a U-turn. This is frustrating. My passenger wrote a witness statement but my insurer said that the passenger witness statement will not be a strong evidence to prove the taxi was in the wrong. This is again frustrating. May I seek your help to be an independent witness and reveal what you have seen on the actual day. I am seeking to right a wrong that was committed. Thank you. Dave

(funny thing is that the Superb is base on the Passat B5 but stretched and the internals are different. ) Fast forward to 2009, this is the updated model for 2009 which has a revised front lamps, grills and rear but internally is still a Superb.
