  1. Hello everyone. Just checking if anyone is heading up Genting on 28th March 2009 ... Maybe we could form a 'mini-convoy' and head up together. This is my 4th time heading up Genting. First time was in a rented car, 2nd in my own with 2 bros from MCF, 3rd in a rented car again. Time is not an issue. I would prefer to leave at 6.30am from Singapore but I wouldn't mind leaving earlier if needed to. Hope to hear from fellow mcf-ers heading the same direction on the same day too!

    2009 AUDI A7

Audi willl be using this to challange the Mercedes=Benz CLS coupe and is based on the Audi A6. Quoted from Car Magazine Just as the A5 uses the A4 platform, so the A7 will be based on the new A6. But the next-gen A6, which means a lightweight aluminium platform with various steel reinforcements. Air suspension will be standard on high-end models, and unless sales don

From day to night many people use their vehicle as working place, dining room, changing room, bedroom, etc. However, the major role of the vehicle is to take us to the destination safety. 9. in abt 25 days or so we will have the 1st F1 race of the calendar! much has been said about this year's design of the F1 cars and most of it is either neutral to negative comments as you will see, the 2009 car design is very different from the previous seasons in bid to have more overtaking during races, and making it more exciting for everyone... some say it will work, some wonder out loud how a bunch 'ugly' cars can entice more to watch F1... anyhow, beside Scuderia Toro Rosso and Brawn's Racing (former Honda F1) all the teams had unveiled their cars and here they are P.S. one of the pic is interesting as it is 'edited' by someone with a 'evil sense of humour' but a good one
  10. How much does it help Singaporeans? Let's paint a hypothetical scenario, which could happen, since we are a open economy with lots of foreign investors/employers. Let's say a guy is hired by a foreign company, his boss is in another country, which by the way also hires many other staff from all nationalities. Singapore government gives back 12% of $2500 = $300 per month for each Singaporean. This amount goes back to the books of the boss in another country (assume 500 Singaporeans staff) * $300 * 12 months= $$1.8Million. This $1.8million goes back to the overall company's books, and than nobody is the wiser, and the company can use this amount of money to send any staff from any country for training or even hire someone from a lower cost country, since there is no guidelines issued that the amount can only be used locally. Worst case scenario :- Money flowing back to the Singaporean $0, Money flowing within Singapore economy $0, Singapore reserves -S$1.8million. It would probably be administratively difficult to police that all money be spent in Singapore, but at least there must be measures/guidelines put in place to ensure that the bulk of the reserves spent gets channeled back into Singapore's economy. Key Budget Initiatives Taken from :- http://www.singaporebudget.gov.sg/key_initiatives/jobs.html JOBS FOR SINGAPOREANS (A) Jobs Credit To sustain jobs for Singaporeans, the Government will introduce a Jobs Credit which will encourage our businesses to preserve jobs in the downturn. This is a temporary scheme to help companies through an exceptional downturn. Details of the scheme are as follows: * Employers will receive a 12% cash grant on the first $2,500 of each month

  14. Mediacorp was caught secretly preparing for election this year. This was highlighted in Yawning Bread blog showing mediacorp website with the page title showing "General Elections 2009", while the content still remains on 2006 election. This is obvious that Mediacorp is preparing the General Election website for this year. Now question is how do Mediacorp knows about this? If the ruling party has already decided that election will be this year, then why feign ignorance and not publicly announced it to Singaporeans? http://www.yawningbread.org/arch_2009/yax-987.htm If really got erection, times ahead must be very hard!

  17. Based on my observation, when markert underperformed or during a market slowdown, Korean cars typically sell well. Remember the period where you see influx of Matrix and Sonata on the road? This accounts for their existence in the Top places in car sales chart. On the other hand When market is generally doing well, you see less of them and their sales actually tumbled. At high time, PIs flushished with the sales of more Japanese imports and someone came out to condem the existence of PIs in Singapore. The black horse, the Made in China, also once claimed to sell 100 QQ on a single day. This is a period where we see more ERPs, road tax reduction, rebate for CNG car, increasing quota and increase in car demand. With recession and less jobs going around the market, are we seeing a repeat of Korean cars coming to top the chart? On the other hand, MIC, which is partially affected by the notorious poison milk case, might have shaken consumer confidence. Hence, unlikly to fight the Korean. Potential MIC buyers are cost concious lot hence may probably give up the idea and stick to BMW for now. For the premium sector, typically represented by high-end conti brands, we are seeing a trend of ADs offering overtrade package to attract the buyers. With COE at it all times low, are we seeing more rich people changing to even newer conti? In all due regards, this has never been a better time for 1st time car buyers and those who are not currently holding onto an existing car. Again with Banks becoming more concious in car loan, this may keep the purchases at bay. What do you think? Thank you. Regards,
  18. The Honda Civic is one of the world's top selling cars and the automaker will look to embrace that position further by launching the facelifted 2009 model year version featuring a number of modifications both inside and out. "The Civic lineup uniquely embraces traditional gasoline, hybrid, high performance and natural gas technologies like no other vehicle in the world," said Dick Colliver, executive vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "The exterior styling enhancements and newly-available features help strengthen Civic's position as one of the best-selling vehicles in a market that's embracing small cars more than ever." Exterior styling receives some extremely subtle changes which leaves the over conservative theme in tact. The front bumper has been redesigned to incorporate extra air intakes on the side areas, the headlights and tail-lights benefit from new color combinations that feature clear turn indicator lenses with amber bulbs. There are also new alloy wheels for the EX, Civic EX-L and Civic Si models whilst the Si model gets a set of fog lamps. Moving on to the interior we find very little has changed other than a few minor equipment changes in the standard packages. The engine and transmission options have also been left untouched.

  23. -A flat rate of $6 applies for every car/taxi, regardless of the number of passengers. Payment will be made via the CashCard in IU at gantry. -A separate parking rate of $5.35 per entry applies at Beach Car Park and Cove Arrival Plaza Car Park. -For all other vehicle types, prevailing charges apply. Pls be reminded and dun get off-guard when you reached the gate. This exhorbitant price is getting frequent and started with Zoukout, then NYE, and now CNY. Maybe next time all holidays will be charged as such prices.
  24. just wondering out loud. with the COE plunging and the car demand definitely going south, i wonder what will the car prices be this year? will, e.g. a Honda City drop to 40K? cos from sgcarmart, with the previous month COE at about 5K (i think) BM is selling the Altis at ~56K, and that is higher than my dad's Altis 3 years back when the COE is 12K... of cos there are other factors to consider like shipping cost etc... govt had already forecast a slump of about -5% in the economy i'm looking to see how exactly the distributors can bring people back to the showroom to be even interested in their products, which will be seen as a luxury more than a necessity during these times.. cheers
