  1. Singapore Traffic Police have conducted an island-wide pre-dawn operation against drink-driving, arresting 16 drink drivers. The blitz took place on June 15 from 1.30am to 4.30am. At road blocks at Crawford Street, Fort Road, New Bridge Road and Outram Road, more than 80 drivers were stopped and tested for alcohol consumption. Of these, 15 men and one woman, aged between 24 and 45, were arrested for drink-driving. The highest Breath Evidential Analyser (BEA) test result was 82 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, more than twice the prescribed legal limit of 35 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. Drink drivers, on conviction, will be disqualified from driving for at least 12 months. They will lose their driving licences and have to retake the theory and practical driving tests to get their driving licences again. In addition, first-time offenders can be fined between S$1,000 and S$5,000, or jailed up to six months. Repeat offenders may be slapped with a maximum fine of S$30,000 and a mandatory jail term of up to three years. They may also be caned up to six strokes should death or serious injury be caused. 2. A car caught fire at the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) Saturday afternoon. The car, believed to be a black Lexus sports model, was near the PIE Clementi Road exit in the Tuas to Changi direction. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said it received a call at about 3.10pm concerning a vehicle on fire at the expressway. It sent a fire engine and a red Rhino to the scene, and firemen extinguished the fire with one water jet. SCDF said no one was injured. Investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. 6. Recently, we've been getting some teaser images from the Japanese automaker Toyota for its upcoming 2013 model year Corolla in New Zealand. Well, for those of you asking yourselves how much longer you are supposed to wait to see the whole thing, worry no more as your wait is about to be over. Toyota has released quite a few commercials unveiling the latest generation of its Corolla lineups. However, if you happen to keep a pet cat, you may want to consider putting your cat away from the car. You'll definitely find out the reason as soon as you have watched the accompanying videos. In these videos, there's this Persian pet cat which just can't seem to get enough of the comfort that the all new 2013 Toyota Corolla (NZ) is capable of offering. As a result, it keeps wanting more and more to be inside the car over and over again. Funny thing is, the cat is really willing to do whatever it takes just in order to be taken by its owner to the vet in the car it just seems to love so much. Oh, how cute

  10. While there are birds practical enough to help people in life - think of pigeons as letter couriers, some birds out there just don't have any idea whatsoever on what they are doing. The dove in the video below is one example. Believe it or not, doves are not clever, not at all. Well, while it's true some birds may find their home after flying a pretty far distance, you still can't consider them clever. It's more like a natural autopilot routine hardwired into their brain, without them realising what they're actually doing. That said, you can't expect doves to do things they aren't exactly created for. As an example, the dove you can see in the video really has no idea that standing on an F1 track is horribly dangerous, especially when an F1 Grand Prix (GP) is taking place. As a result, it had to play chicken with an F1 racer who happened to be approaching its direction. The F1 racer was revealed to be Brazilian Luiz Felipe de Oliveira Nasr. He was piloting a Dallara-Renault F1 car, racing for Carlin Motorsport. However, being stupid for standing on the racetrack in the first place, I must admit the bird has some great maneuverability. You see, it avoided being flattened by the racecar with a somehow adorable backflip, reminding me of those Kung-Fu moves you see in the movies. Fortunately, the bird survived, which is a good thing - and a miracle, too.

  19. I have no idea what was wrong with Chrysler engineer, Martin Morse. We have yet to even see a few, if at all, of the 2013 Dodge SRT Viper on our shores or in other parts of the world. Yes, the car was launched just not so long ago, it's the latest Viper from the American automaker Dodge which means it's still a fresh model. Yet, Morse had already ruined one good example of the model. On 22nd April 2013, according to eyewitnesses, the car should have been going at a speed beyond 112km/h on US Highway 23. According to Michigan State Police, the temperature on that day was near-freezing and there was also light rain. The police believed that Morse must have flexed the snake's muscles too hard. Morse lost control of the car, slided across lanes and then hit a fence that separated the highway northbound and southbound lanes. Fortunately enough, the car was pretty low that it managed to get through the upper and middle cables. Unfortunately, being low as it was, the car couldn't get past the bottom cable. I believe that it must have been the bottomcable, a thick braided cord made of steel, that had caused Morse his death, as the cable cut through the car's cabin. Furthermore, it has been confirmed that there was no mechanical fault involved in the incident. So, it seems that Morse had pushed the throttle too much under wrong weather conditions.
  20. PART 1 - TAS-SG, The Overview (photos here have s--t res. becos image tags do not allow for full res images) http://garage36.blogspot.sg/ Had to pen my thoughts just as i got back from TAS-SG yesterday evening. For the first time ever, TAS has brought it's show overseas (Thailand's is Bangkok International Auto Salon) and i was fortunate to be invited for a short early preview of the show before the doors opened to the public so was able to get in some shots of the cars before the crowds swarmed in. Consisting of one main hall, it isn't quite as big as the main show in Japan, nor are the cars parked as tightly together might i add. It can pretty much be covered in less than a day, but let's not jump to conclusions just yet. I'm guessing for petrolheads, one of the main draws are the presence of the Japanese tuner houses which to give the organisers credit, getting them down was probably a hat-trick in itself given the limited market our little island has for them. Although i would have hoped for a more stellar showcase of cars, i won't complain. After all, we have to start somewhere right? As the other members of the press got in as many shots as possible, i decided to just take in as much as i can while occasionally getting in a photo or two. One thing i had wished for was for more merchandise from the overseas exhibitors. If you've been to the show in Japan, one of the things to take note of when visiting is to keep a tight watch over your wallet as there are just tonnes and tonnes of goodies to be bought! The only exhibitor which brought along lots of stuff to buy was Vertex, unfortunately, they forgot to bring along a car to showcase. I'm guessing their 2JZ powered BMW is probably busy in the D1 circuit to make this trip. Well, there's always next time. You can buy a BMW keychain from them though. It looks pretty rad. RE Amemiya also brought along some goodies but their prices reflect their exclusivity. From cars that made the long boat ride down, we swap over to take a look at those which made the trip from just across the border. It's pretty interesting to see how automotive styling has evolved over the years, from loud and bombastic aerokits to the current stance movement. Some cars stranger than others, but i do love a couple of retro JDM rides that were present. Especially this brown KE70 Corolla, so clean. Just perfect. This little carbon wrapped Civic also had my attention for the longest time. I will do a more detailed post of the more notable cars later.
  21. Claimed to be the fastest street car Ferrari has ever produced so far, there's almost nothing to criticise regarding the LaFerrari. From its eye catching styling cues to its mild hybrid powertrain featuring 963bhp, I don't see anything this car is lacking of. Instead of sporting a single focal point, as in the case with most other cars, there isn't any on the LaFerrari. Well, the only one perhaps, is its canopy like roof that seems quite interesting to me. In short, this is one dream Italian prancing horse built in Maranello. Some other models such as the Ferrari 458 Spider and the Ferrari FF were also built in the aforementioned Italian city. The Ferrari LaFerrari has been detailed perfectly by means of carbon fibre material. As far as design is concerned, it seems to me that the only thing which can outdo the design is the car's stunning performance with a top speed of 350km/h and an ability to accelerate from 0-100km/h in just less than 3 seconds. As mentioned earlier, the LaFerrari is a hybrid model which means it carries a V12 petrol engine along with an electric motor. The Italian automaker is planning to sell no more than 499 units of its latest supercar - which happens to be the company's first hybrid prancing horse. Well, it seems quite a good idea to bring the model to China - through the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show - as the country may be able to 'swallow' all units of the model based on financial ability. That also leads to figuring out the actual number of units that will actually see the land of the Far East. That said, I believe that there'll be some for the Middle East to 'consume' as well. Regarding the price, as far as I know, Ferrari will stick a price tag ranging somewhere around

  23. A section of the Tampines Expressway (TPE) will be temporarily closed this Thursday, April 25 from 12.01am to 5am. The stretch of expressway between Jalan Kayu and Sengkang East Road will be affected. The temporary road closure will facilitate the erection of a new overhead gantry sign along the TPE for the widening of the roadway, the Housing and Development Board (HDB) said in a statement today. Motorists travelling on the TPE in the direction of Tampines are advised to use alternative routes along Jalan Kayu, Sengkang West Way and Sengkang East Road.
