  1. Wish to get help here. My car is Elantra Basic model. i crack the left tail light cover a few month ago. Now I got a new light and wish to change by my self. However, when I start to do DIY, I found there is an additional wire connect to the tail light. Is there anyone can advice what is this wire for? I think it looks like for the power source for reverse camera, or reverse sensor? The new light I bought do not have this wire. I attached the photos. Thanks The new light bought do not have this wire I checked the right tail light, do not have this wire

  4. Finally have some time to edit the pics from a short three day trip to Japan. My favourite pic of the trip. Will continue posting when I edit more.
  5. Looking back, many things happened this year, a mix of good and bad events for me. Starting with the bad one first, this is the first time I lost count of the number of funeral I have attended this year, close to 10, if not more. Some gone just so suddenly (diagnosed with final stage cancer, asthma leading to brain-dead, fallen into water), leaving behind their loved one in shock and lost. Imagine in one case, a family photo (a grand one with ~50 pax) suddenly short of 3 members in a span of 4 months time… sigh And after so many years of constant reminders, my mum still got scammed by those door-to-door sales person, as that “auntie” is very willing to lend her a listening ear, but little did she know that it is part of scammer’s tactics to fish info from her, making her walk into their trap unknowingly. Lucky for us, we manage to recover the full sum eventually (with police report made), but not without a lot of leg work, data collection and banging tables (CASE inclusive)… Lessons learned: Spend more time with your family, be patient with old folks especially, listen to their grumble/complaint with an open mind, as you will never know what is in their mind if they don’t speak out (whether we can solve their problem is a separate matter). Try to put ourselves in their perspective when suggesting solutions, instead of insisting we are right / they are wrong! I know saying is easier than done, but I don’t want to have any regret on the day they are gone… … OK, now on the better part, I managed to finally bring my family for a trip in Europe, something that I have wanted to do so many years back, but financially challenged (it is not just about affordability for me). I am not born with silver spoon, every cent were hard earned, and the more I have to plan my spending carefully, so that I would still have enough for rainy days and retirement. And more importantly, I don’t want to let my young ones to take things for granted. A small surprise for me after the trip when my son came to me, saying: “Daddy, we have spent so much recently, do you still have enough saving?” With this simple statement, I know my preaching (on financial prudent) has been effective… Work wise, my willingness to take new challenges (different job function) has landed me with a new role and exposure. Although no promotion or increment, but I am happy with what I am doing (including the strong support from my superior), and I have also picked up a new skill, why not? Lessons learned: Do not hesitate to try out new things, you have nothing to lose actually. Knowledge and experience will follow you for life, unless you choose to “abandon” them. OK, that all for me. What about yours? BTW, an early season greeting. Wish all of you and your loved one a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

  9. Helping my father make a decision on his next car. He’s currently driving a Fortuner in its last yr of COE, and would like a 7 seater SUV as replacement. Visited the show rooms last wkend to look see, so considering between these two models: Outlander $129k Sorento SX Diesel ~ $155k (SE quote) He’s the type to use the car up to the 9-10yr mark before changing. Sorento OMV is 33k, PARF is about 4.7k more than outlander. Travels >30k km a yr, so calculated the savings of diesel over the petrol over 10yrs, together with the PARF difference, it will eventually add up to balance the car price as well as road tax difference. So kinda leaning towards the Sorento. Hence would need some input regarding both models and which would you pick over. Are they any hidden cost or details that may help tip the outlander to be of better value or the deciding factor? maintenance, would turbo diesel engine require more maintenance in the long run vs 2.4 NA Engine? Servicing cost wise, are they about the same? What about parts replacement, Kor vs jap parts cheaper? Reliability? Would assume both are equally as good? Is it easy to find Diesel Euro V in Malaysia? (He travels to JB quite frequently, Penang Ipoh maybe once or twice a yr) Many thanks for any input or views.

  12. 2016 is ending, and its been an interesting ride. The usual suspects have been doing well: Toyota (Corolla); Honda HRV / Vezels (especially if you include PI cars) Mazda 3 Hyundai Elantra Mercedes C or E Class? Nissan QQ? The Uber / Grab phenomenon has changed the ratios, and Toyota (Axio), Mazda (3), Honda (Vezel), a bit of Kia (K3) and some others have benefitted. So who will make it to the top ten of 2016? The COE prices have been on a down trend, coming from highs in 2013-2014. The COE quotas were on an increase, but the government is putting the squeeze, and the quota is dropping again. With this, the COEs may rise, each time the COEs go up, the marquee brands do better. See 2013 / 2014, when Merc had 3-4 cars in the top ten, and brands like BMW, Audi also featured. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/mercedes-benz-beating-bmw-as-best-selling-brand-in-singapore?login=true The contenders for 2016: http://bestsellingcarsblog.com/category/singapore/ Top ten for 2015: http://business.asiaone.com/news/toyota-surges-no-1-brand-singapore Top ten for 2014: http://www.carbuyer.com.sg/features/399-can-you-guess-singapore-s-best-selling-car http://focus2move.com/mercedes-e-class-best-selling-car-singapore/ http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/article.php?AID=10795 Top ten for 2013: http://www.lifestyleasia.com/380529/top-selling-car-in-singapore-2013/

  15. Hello! I have a problem with my 1 month old Estima: While driving suddenly I lost power steering, Speed reading and all the warning lights including Engine, Power steering, traction control and ABS came on. The car remained drivable and the engine sounded the same. Brought it to the service center (PI) and they said it was a bad battery, changed it. Problem happened again and they changed battery again. Finally they also changed the alternator at my insistence but the problem continued. They then blamed the drive camera for draining too much battery. I've been asked to unplug it and see if the error comes back on. I have a HUD which reads real time voltage. I noticed that when in Park, its always 13.8-14.2V. When I drive, for the first few mins it will remain in this range. After that, on the road it will suddenly drop to 12.2V when the accelerator is being pressed. If I stop stepping on the accelerator while the car is moving at speed, the voltage will jump back to 14.2-14.4V. Also when I turn on the lights the voltage will jump to 13.7V. Turning on or off the air con makes no difference. I'm wondering if this is normal behaviour for the Estima or do I have a problem with some electronic control component? Thanks for any advice! P.S. Since this is my first post, I'm not allowed to start a new topic but if anyone is kind enough to help me re-post this in the Japan Car forum, I'll be very grateful for the increased exposure!

  23. Mercedes C350 plug-in hybrid review 12 12 Hybrid C-Class offers a compelling mix of power and fuel efficiency Fuel economy test conditions give plug-in hybrids an unfair advantage in the company car taxation game, but used in the right way, the Mercedes C 350 Plug-in can be very cheap to run. It delivers a sharp turn of pace, too, and excels at being a refined, luxurious cruiser. Just look closely at how you’re likely to use it. It’s £3,465 more expensive than a C 250 BlueTEC diesel, which will prove more economical if you plan on covering longer distances. Pure electric cars aside, plug-in hybrids are the most economical and tax-efficient vehicles money can buy. They’re still expensive next to petrol and diesel-powered alternatives, but with Mercedes planning to launch 10 by 2017, you can expect prices to tumble. So, it’s up to early adopters to take the plunge, but fortunately, much of the C 350 Plug-in will feel familiar. Based on the C-Class saloon, it’s pretty much a no-compromise vehicle, although under the skin, the space for the 100kg lithium-ion battery pack cuts boot capacity to 335 litres in the saloon and 350 litres in the Estate (from 480 and 490 respectively). Both versions are also fitted with air-suspension to cope with the demands of the extra 200kg that the entire system adds to the kerbweight. Image 2 of 12 Image 2 of 12 Climb inside, and it’s business as usual. Last year’s new C-Class was a big improvement on its predecessor, and the plug-in hybrid uses exactly the same materials, plus fit and finish is excellent. The cars will be supplied in Exclusive or Avantgarde trim, so they’re well up the C-Class pecking order, with the addition of an air-con system that will pre-heat or cool the car thanks to its independent electrical power. The only hint of the state-of-the-art plug-in drivetrain is a small eco meter in the bottom of the instrument binnacle and the energy flow screen on the central tablet. Image 8 of 12 Image 8 of 12 Under the skin, the 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine’s 208bhp is augmented by an 80bhp electric motor that sits between the main unit and the transmission and can be clutched in and out. Total system power is 275bhp with a mighty 600Nm of torque, which is enough to give this 1.75-tonne car a 155mph top speed and a 0-62mph time of 5.9 seconds. • Best hybrid cars on sale That’s highly respectable for a sports saloon (the new C 450 AMG Sport is only one second quicker), and when you want to save the planet in E-mode, the electric motor and batteries deliver a 19.2-mile range at speeds up to 80mph. Image 1 of 12 Image 1 of 12 There are two main driving modes for the C 350. Hybrid mixes electric-only driving with electric boosting (petrol and electric motors together) and brake energy recuperation to give maximum economy. E-mode uses battery power alone for a limited range, plus you can select E-save mode, where the electric charge is saved for later in the journey; there’s also Charge, in which the petrol engine drives the car and recharges the battery simultaneously. Put your foot down, and this big Mercedes sprints forward as the electric motor pushes its big torque into the system at very low revs. The charge tails off a bit at higher speeds, but this is still a swift saloon. The ride is slightly better than the standard C-Class’, although that extra 100kg in the tail makes the car bob over regular bumps, while changes of direction are a tad less immediate. Image 10 of 12 Image 10 of 12 The drive systems offer a choice of Economy, Comfort, Sport and Sport+, which do pretty much what their names suggest. In Economy, the car will disengage the drivetrain and coast when conditions allow. The stiff suspension of Sport+ is a bit too much, though, so we preferred Comfort mode. Brake energy recuperation is most noticeable in the two sport modes, where the initial regeneration braking isn’t particularly well blended with the actual friction from pads on discs. Again, Comfort is the best setting for braking, as it’s more linear and the pedal feels more progressive, although at about 4mph, where the regeneration braking switches, it becomes jerky again. Key specs Price: £37,820 Engine: 2.0-litre 4cyl turbo plus electric motor, 275bhp Transmission: Seven-speed auto, rear-wheel drive 0-62mph/top speed: 5.9 secs/155mph Economy/CO2: 134.5mpg/48g/km On sale: May
