NATIONAL ANTHEM FIRST PLAYED IN 1959 The National Anthem was first revealed during a historic nine-minute ceremony on Dec 3, 1959, which symbolised the full attainment of self-government by the state and the swearing-in of Mr Yusof Ishak as Singapore's first Malayan-born head of state. The ceremony began with the British anthem, God Save The Queen, before Majulah Singapura was played. At the end of the ceremony, both anthems were played again, but this time with Majulah Singapura first. The practice of playing the National Anthem in schools during daily flag raising and lowering ceremonies was introduced on Aug 29, 1966, just weeks after the first National Day Parade. In 2001, it was officially relaunched in the musical key of F-major. New version of National Anthem The National Anthem is getting a new rendition by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra to mark the 60th anniversary of Singapore's national symbols. The new rendition of Majulah Singapura will be broadcast on all radio stations at 11.20am tomorrow, 60 years after the national symbols were first unveiled. It will also be available for download on the National Heritage Board website for public use, including for schools and government agencies. Officially from 30 Nov to 11 Dec 2019. Not a good 2019 for SEA GAMES, both for the Philippine, who is the organizer, while SG has only bad news from the start. Started with the outbreak of Polio in Philippine so near to departure and athletes having to take booster shots before leaving SG. Then the chaos and negative news regarding the administration and logistics of the host country regarding transport, hotel, food when the football teams arrived. Opening sports for SG almost gone case. With the U22 lions drawing Laos and losing to Indonesia with no goals so far, having to beat both SEA GAMES power house Thailand and Vietnam is almost like a dream in the day. Looks like early go early come back for the footballers. Next we have the water polo team making history, losing their first SEA GAMES match in 54 years, to the Indonesia. This also means after 27 SEA GAMES Gold medals back to back, this year the water polo team comes home no gold. Hopefully, with the rest of the teams starting the matches tomorrow onward, some good news may fly home soon. The future design direction of new SEAT models has been unveiled tonight as the wraps have come off the all-new SEAT Tarraco. The large SUV - named after the Mediterranean city of Tarragona, a historic cultural centre with a spirit that is young and adventurous - completes the Barcelona-based manufacturer's SUV range. The latest vehicle designed and developed at the facilities of SEAT in Martorell (Barcelona) and produced in Wolfsburg (Germany), marks the third instalment in the company's SUV product offensive and shows a glimpse of the future design language of new SEAT models. Tarraco is the new flagship model of the brand and will bring the company new customers, boost brand image and have an important effect on profits, as this is a model with high contribution margins. SEAT Tarraco sits at the top of SEAT's SUV family, as the bigger brother to both the Ateca and Arona, and mixes state-of-the-art technology, dynamic and agile handling, practicality and functionality with elegant, progressive design. The Tarraco combines the many advantages of its larger dimensions to offer a vehicle that can take on all elements of modern life. The new SUV blends the key attributes of every vehicle in the SEAT range - design and functionality, sportiness and comfort, accessibility and quality, technology and emotion -but in a form that suits a wider variety of lifestyles. The new SEAT Tarraco is designed for drivers who need the usefulness of a five or seven-seater and the practicality of a higher driving position, but are conscious of a vehicle's aesthetics and appreciate the Tarraco's balance between self-confidence and elegance. That balance is maintained across both available trim levels, SE and Xcellence. The key to its nuanced approach to practicality and dynamic behaviour is the latest technology from Volkswagen Group and the MQB-A long wheelbase architecture that underpins the large SUV. The vehicle's Dynamic Chassis Control (DCC) setup gives the perfect balance between a sporty feeling when you are behind the wheel, and a more comfortable ride when you need to cover longer distances, on different types of roads. The driver can select which setting they prefer, but the system can also adapt automatically, modifying the ride depending on the road surface and driving style. The smoothness of the ride quality is matched by the performance, efficiency and reliability of the powertrain options. All engines benefit from direct-injection, turbocharging and start-stop technology and offer power outputs of between 150PS and 190PS. Two petrol variants will be available: a four-cylinder 1.5 litre TSI unit that produces 150PS and is linked to a six-speed manual transmission powering the front wheels, and a 2.0 litre, 190PS offering mated to a seven-speed DSG gearbox and 4Drive total traction system. There are two diesel options, both 2.0 litre TDIs, with power outputs of 150PS and 190PS respectively. The 150PS variant can be connected to either a front-wheel drive, six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG with 4Drive system. The higher powered version is solely available in 4Drive/seven-speed DSG gearbox. Later, the SEAT Tarraco will also benefit from alternative powertrain technologies. "The SEAT Tarraco is a masterpiece of functionality and flexibility, as it offers the space and flexibility customers expect from a large SUV. It is the sportiest vehicle in the segment from a design point of view and also thanks to the dynamic chassis control, which allows you to tune it to meet your driving needs,"said SEAT Executive Vice-President for Research and Development, Dr. Matthias Rabe. The new SEAT Tarraco has all the driving assistance systems needed to make driving more comfortable and secure, even in more demanding driving environments. Well known systems such as Lane Assist and Front Assist including bicycle and pedestrian detection are standard in Europe, while systems such as Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, Traffic Jam Assist, ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control), Light Assist and Emergency Assist are available as options. Taking safety to the next level for SEAT, the Tarraco SUV also includes Emergency Call, Pre-crash Assist and Rollover Detection, meaning no matter what the situation, the vehicle is designed to meet the most demanding safety standards in order to make the large SUV the benchmark model in the segment. Designed for life Bigger dimensions inspired the design team to find a greater balance between aesthetic integrity and purposeful proportions. And even though the SEAT Tarraco SUV is 4,735mm long and 1,658mm tall, creating a huge interior space and an imposing exterior, the overall design implies a lightness and agility as well as a robustness and perception of space. The front design gives a hint to SEAT's new design language, with a more prominent grille, giving greater presence and character, and while the sharp Full LED headlights retain the company's triangular signature they are set further into the body, giving a more focused appearance. Lighting technology forms an important aspect of the SEAT Tarraco. The SUV uses 100% LED technology for both the exterior and interior as standard on both the Xcellence and Style trims, giving designers greater creative freedom and the customer cleaner, crisper lighting. "I believe the new Tarraco gives a first strong impression when you see it for the first time because of its excellent proportions and elegant, yet sporty design. At the rear, where functionality is of immense importance, the emphasis is on a low loading area, but with a lighting concept to express the width and practicality of the SUV. The LED lighting also allows for dynamic rear indicators. The SEAT Tarraco will be available with eight different colours : Dark Camouflage, Oryx White, Reflex Silver, Atlantic Blue, Indium Grey, Titanium Beige, Deep Black and Urano Grey. Inside, designers have worked hard to create an interior that cocoons the occupants, using a horizontal line that spans the dashboard but also emphasises the width of the Tarraco, increasing the feeling of space in the cabin while at the same time inspiring confidence, safety and a level of quality normally found in the premium sector. And as our world becomes increasingly digitised the Tarraco's interior benefits from SEAT's 10.25" Digital Cockpit, streamlining the delivery of important information to the driver, and an 8" large, floating HMI screen where occupants can access SEAT's suite of connectivity options. It's bigger and is way more high-tech than its predecessors. And according to Volkswagen, it's not for us in the United States. Instead, it will just be launching in overseas markets such as China and Europe. As such, we'll be missing out on one of the more gadget-laden VWs we've seen. The SUV will be available with a 12-inch Digital Cockpit display for the instruments as well as a huge 15-inch infotainment screen, bigger even than the 12-inch monster in the Ram 1500. VW gave this combination a name that wouldn't be out of place in a car from the '50s, or maybe a tech company from the '90s, the Innovision Cockpit. Volkswagen says drivers can use these screens to adjust many settings to adjust how the car drives, and to control what's happening in the interior and personalize it. The technology isn't restricted to the infotainment. Handling is enhanced with four-wheel-steering and electronically adjustable anti-roll bars. A full complement of safety features includes night vision, front cross-traffic assist, LED matrix headlights and Roadwork Lane Assist. This is a semi-autonomous feature that will handle steering, braking and accelerating at speeds up to 37 mph. Volkswagen notes the new Touareg is longer and wider than the current model, but through the use of aluminum and high-strength steel, it's 234 pounds lighter. Powering the bigger, wider body will be a range of engines including two diesel V6s making 228 horsepower and 282 horsepower. A 335-horsepower gasoline V6, 415-horsepower diesel V8, and 362-horsepower hybrid powertrain will also be available.

National Day is round the corner and NDP19 rehearsals are in full swing. This year the Bicentennial parade will be held at the Padang. Had the wonderful opportunity to attend an NE show and the experience was fantastic. Will share some videos here to build up some NDP fervour. It was quite something to watch the Red Lions land safely in the Padang after jumping off from a Super Puma helicopter high up in the sky. Red Lions landing, led by 1st Warrant Officer Melvin Ho, with 1,400 jumps. He was the team leader for NDP19 Red Lions jump team, and he executed a perfect landing right in the middle of the Parade Square.

The COE quota for August to October will be 20,850, down from the 25,347 COEs from May to July, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced in a news release on Thursday (Jul 18). There will be a decrease in the number of COEs issued for every category. Category A, which is for cars up to 1,600cc and maximum power output not exceeding 97kW, will have a quota of 6,338 COEs, 25.8 per cent fewer than the previous quarter's 8,546. The average monthly quota is 2,112. Category B, which is for cars above 1,600cc or maximum power output above 97kW, will have a quota of 6,251, which is lower than the preceding quarter's 6,834. This works out to an average monthly quota of 2,083. Goods vehicles and buses in Category C will have a quota of 1,699, with an average monthly quota of 566. In Category D, which is for motorcycles, the COE quota is 4,433, down from last quarter's quota of 5,383. The average monthly quota for this quarter is 1,477.
