  11. Now folks at Pioneer will know of this chow kuan fella... From STOMP: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...s_his_face.html Posted on 24 Jun 2012 Sia suay! Guy who doesn't pay up at disco has his face plastered on bus stop STOMPer Jayson saw a poster of a man who did not pay up after a night out at the disco. Please pay and do not embarrass yourself, says the STOMPer. Wrote Jayson: "Drink and you don't pay... "We were waiting for the bus at Pioneer and found this on the notice board of the bus stop. "It is located at the bus stop at Pioneer MRT station. "Such an innovative way to vent their anger. "So lesson learnt today: You drink you pay. If you 'hang flower' at disco, please pay. "Don't 'cho lao quey' aka embarrass yourself."
  12. Happened to my Office on 3 different dates. My uncle colleague, on way to work, kena a lorry after the ah-bang drove out of his lane without signaling. End up taking a knock on his front side bumper, badly shaken and he went on MC for 2 days after complaining of dizziness. My other colleague, involved as the first car with 2 others. Stopped due to slow traffic. He saw the audi behind stopped as well. Then he heard a loud sound. He prayed hard, brakes hold firm. bang! bang! The altis knocked the audi, who in turn knock his rear. After all the blar, blar is over, took down the picture of the altis fellow's IC. Realised that fellow is from myanmar. When the accident occured, my collegaue got down and walk straight to the altis, He was shaken, and holding a mobile phone on his hand. WTF. My Technician, on his way to work; a lorry, seem innocently parked stationary at the side shoulder, suddenly did a super u-turn to get to the other direction lane. As expected, my Technician van couldn't stop or brake on time; smashed the side of the lorry. End up smashing my company van's head. Air bag activated. The lorry's worker was sent to hospital. farking ah bang driver .... duno what his dickhead is thinking. All within a space of 2 weeks. WTF our authorities are really doing?? Giving license to FOD to drive lorries or class 3 looks super easy. (Not fresh news I know) Instead we are seeing news of a certain plastic-body modifier guy getting fined for this or that. Priorities are not given on the right issue.
  13. From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp...1197405/1/.html North Korea marks Army Day, vowing war against South Posted: 25 April 2012 2014 hrs SEOUL: North Korea's military chief of staff accused the United States and South Korea on Wednesday of plotting war but said his country's own weaponry could destroy their armaments in "a single blow". Vice-Marshal Ri Yong-Ho also repeated threats of war against South Korea, vowing to "cut the throats" of those seen as defaming Pyongyang's leadership. The North has made a series of increasingly strongly worded threats against the South in recent weeks. On Monday its military threatened "special actions" soon to turn parts of Seoul to ashes. Some analysts believe the new young leader Kim Jong-Un is trying to bolster his military credentials and divert attention from a failed rocket launch this month. Ri, in a speech marking Army Day, credited Jong-Un's late father Kim Jong-Il with strengthening the 1.2 million-strong military in the nuclear-armed state. Because of this, he said, "our military is now equipped with strong modern weapons capable of destroying what the imperialists call highly sophisticated weapons by a single blow". The launch, which attracted UN condemnation, was to have been the centrepiece of celebrations in mid-April marking the 100th anniversary of the birth of founding leader Kim Il-Sung. The North bridled at comments by the South's President Lee Myung-Bak and conservative media, who said the money spent on the launch could have bought food for the perennially hungry nation. "Our military and people are full of rage against the Lee Myung-Bak's traitor groups, who dared to commit such an extreme criminal act as defaming our system and the top leadership," Ri told a national meeting in the April 25 House of Culture. "Our military and people will launch a retaliatory war in our own way... to cut the throats of the reckless provocateurs and crush the source of provocations without a trace." The US and its ally the South were making "ever-intensifying plots for war", he said. The ceremony attended by Kim Jong-Un and other top leaders marked what the North calls the 80th anniversary of the military's founding, during the guerrilla struggle against Japanese colonial forces. The North says its rocket launch was part of a peaceful bid to put a satellite in orbit, and not a disguised missile test as the US and its allies maintain. Some analysts believe it will now stage a nuclear test, as it did in 2006 and 2009 following international censure of its rocket launches. A former chief US nuclear negotiator said on Wednesday any third test would be "somehow different and bigger" than the previous two. Christopher Hill did not elaborate in an interview in Seoul with Yonhap news agency. Some analysts believe it will use fuel from a uranium enrichment programme disclosed in 2010, rather than plutonium as previously.

  16. The policy makers are going bananas over the present low birth rate or the total fertility rate (TFR) of 1.2 amongst us which is well below the replacement rate of 2.1. As such, they are advocating bringing in immigrants of 25,000/yr to be on the safe side. Of course this is an emotive issue which does not really go down well with many citizens... Anyway having children to me is mainly a personal choice and I dare say many parents are not thinking of the BIG picture of having kids for the sake of the future of Singapore. I have friends or relatives who are mostly having at least 2 kids so the TFR of 1.2 is not prevalent amongst folks I know. In fact there are 4 young couples I know of having 3 kids each and tellingly they are affluent, with three of them staying in landed properties and with in-laws and maids helping out in the care-giving. There are of course couples I know who are adamant about not having kids and wanting to enjoy living out the DINKs aka 二人世界 lifestyle. To them personal freedom and enjoying their undisturbed lifesyle beats the h*ll outa having to have babies and painstakingly nurturing them to adulthood. Then there are those singles who does not even habour the thought of settling down or whom have not met the right one and like the DINK couples are earning their keeps and enjoy singlehood life as they know how. For us, we have two naughty chewren and is the best thing that has happened to us and though we are not staying in swanky condos or driving big cars, we are happy and contented with the HDB living and having a beat-up B&B car for transport. Life is not luxurious but we get by. Holidays are short family getaways to Malaysia and Thailand. What about you? For those who are married or cohabiting, care to share why you have kids or do not wish to have one? How is it affecting your lifestyle?
