  1. 70-year-old had a heart attack during surgery and another one two weeks later MOMENTS after motorcyclist David Jermais Pattiselanno had been hit by a car, a woman came running up to him, saying to him: 'Sorry, Uncle, sorry, Uncle.' He was off his machine with a broken left leg at the junction of Dunearn and Whitley roads on Christmas Eve two years ago. Mr Pattiselanno, now 70, took the stand in court yesterday to give his account of the accident on the second day of the trial of the woman, Michelle Lim Hong Eng, a 55-year-old executive editor with Shin Min Daily News. Nearly two years after the accident that killed his pillion rider, Indonesian maid Melania Melaniawati, 24, Mr Pattiselanno had to hobble on a pair of crutches to get onto the witness stand - a result of a compound fracture in his leg. Questioned by Deputy Public Prosecutor Ng Der Lim, Mr Pattiselanno identified Lim, who sat in the dock sullen, her head down. She has been accused of causing the death of Ms Melaniawati as well as grievously injuring Mr Pattiselanno, her employer. Lim is alleged to have run a red light in her dark-coloured sports utility vehicle as she made her way from Whitley Road to Stevens Road. Mr Pattiselanno said he was on his motorcycle with Ms Melaniawati, headed to the city from his son's house in Woodlands. At the junction of Dunearn and Whitley roads, he stopped at the red light in the middle of the two-lane carriageway. When the light turned green, he took off to get ahead of the taxi to his left, to avoid a collision in case it turned right. He recalled: 'Suddenly, I noticed a black bonnet about to hit me on my left side. Both of us were thrown off and I landed at the centre of the road.' Three men came up to help him. They carried him to the roadside, where one of them, a doctor, gave him first aid. It was from there that he saw Ms Melaniawati lying motionless in the centre of the road. Moments later, Lim approached him. An ambulance took Ms Melaniawati away, while a second one took him to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. The broken leg was just the start of his medical ordeal: He suffered a heart attack while in the operating theatre and another one two weeks later. He also had implants, metal screws and wires inserted into his left leg in four operations. He developed an infection after the last, so the implants had to be removed, he said. He added that, with his left leg now shorter than his right, he walks with a permanent limp. A third charge was raised yesterday against Lim, alleging that she was using her mobile phone at the time of the accident. But her lawyer Subhas Anandan suggested that there was insufficient evidence of this, and that 'to put this charge in at this point of evidence is clearly to buttress a case which may not be strong'. The court ruled in his favour and the additional charge was stood down. It will be dealt with at the conclusion of the trial. The hearing continues today. VICTIM: Mr Pattiselanno walks with a permanent limp now. Insufficient Evidence Can WIN

  3. Hi All, Can i just ask, what do we do if we are involved in a car accident with a Malaysian car in Singapore? Should we just take cash for the damage or.... Need your advise
  4. Hit the sack the moment I reached home so only got around to posting this when I woke up.... Anybody driving along Dunearn Road (towards Upper Bukit Timah Road direction) noticed a really bad accident in the middle of the road? An Audi A4 was totally smashed in it's rear - the whole boot and bumped disappeared! One of the most serious rear-end accident I've ever seen... and to think it wasn't on the expressway too. A comfort taxi was the offender... no big surprise eh? he must have been speeding to have caused such a great impact, especially on an Audi no less, and in the rear which is usually the strongest part of a car's structure! An ambulance was onsite as well. Sigh.. the roads are becoming more and more unsafe these days.

    Tragic Accident

Tragic Accident: Mother loses 3 children in smash-up MUAR: Tan Kee Ann was burdened with the heaviest of tasks on Saturday. He had to tell his sister-in-law, Lee Lay Ha, that three of her children had died in an accident on Jalan Pagoh-Parit Sulong here, earlier that night. Lee had been driving the car when the accident occurred. She was knocked unconscious, but awoke two hours later. Tan, 37, said Lee asked for her children immediately upon gaining consciousness. With tears in his eyes, Tan had to muster all the courage he had to tell her the terrible news. "She woke up and asked for her children. She did not even ask about herself, but her kids. It was just heartbreaking to see her. "She just cried after I told her that her children were no more. "It was the saddest moment in my life. Imagine losing your kids in such a tragedy. "I could only cry for her," he said at the Sultanah Fatimah Specialist Hospital mortuary. Siblings Tan Jun Hui, 4, Jun Wah, 11, and Jun Nia, 12, and their cousin Wong Yui Yen, 7, were killed on the spot in a head-on collision between the Proton Wira they were in and a lorry. Their Indonesian maid Kismi Wati, 23, also died instantly. Another sibling, Jun Kwang, 8, and cousin, also named Wong Yui Yen, 6, sustained serious head and body injuries, along with Lee. However, the lorry driver, only known as Zaki, and his attendant, Sofie Baharum, 28, escaped unhurt. Tan said the family was on their way from Batu Pahat to Panchor here for their usual weekend visit with the children's grandmother. "Lee is a teacher at SMK Banang Jaya in Batu Pahat while her children studied at SK Banang Jaya. "They were bright students and were very close to each other. This is a huge loss for our family." Tan claimed Lee usually drove carefully and would hesitate to speed. Sofie earlier claimed that Lee had tried avoiding a stalled taxi at the side of the road, before crashing into the lorry. "I do not believe that. Something is wrong because Lee is a careful driver. She would have seen the lorry," Tan said. A funeral will be held at the Bakri Chinese cemetery today.
  6. The Insurance Co recently launched the New Motor Claims Framework which requires you to lodge your report within 24hrs. The worst thing is the reporting centres are the Insurance Authorised Workshops - this is very unfair as they are channelling the business to only a handful of workshop. The Insurance Co also threathen to cut your NCD if you don't do certain thing their way. I would like to tell all bros that you have your rights to choose your Preferred Workshop! Read here: http://www.justcomz.com/application/justco...ce_x0020_Claims There are 3 letters from the Sub Court and MAS (who is regulating the Insurance Co) affirming your rights. Any doubt, I am here to assist you in it. Thanks Joey Lim Harmony Motor
  7. Was anyone stuck in the jam along Bendemeer Road towards City? Was walking to the hawker for dinner and saw thick smoke bellowing out from the side of the road, presumably from a car? Had quite a few red and blues on site. Anyone saw what happened?
  8. July 14, 2008 Man charged over fatal accident By Elena Chong, Courts Correspondent A MAN was charged in court on Monday with negligently causing the deaths of his mother-in-law and son in a road traffic accident two years ago. Long Shi Pin, 37, was driving a car along Woodlands Road when it crashed into a tree, killing rear seat passengers, Madam Lee Tew Ngoh, 63, and six-year-old Matthew Long Chay En on May 28, 2006. He is also accused of causing grievous hurt to his wife, Madam Jennifer Tham Ai Ping, 37, who was seated in front, and his sister-in-law, Ms Joann Tham Gek Peng, 33, seated at the back of the car. 9. Happened before 8:30pm tonight; Toyota Corona is on the left, can't recognise the silver car, I guess one of them beat the red light. After having a cross junction accident happened on me, I usually slow down when approaching junction, how about you ? http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o396/z2...31/IMG_0760.jpg http://i341.photobucket.com/albums/o396/z2...31/IMG_0761.jpg
  10. It's on STOMP. Please decide and voice out for justice. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...nt.jsp?id=27196 Thank you. "I had a near-miss accident at a round-about near Jalan Ahmad Ibrahim Road on Saturday (June 28), because a PRC driver suddenly cut into my lane without warning. I was at the outer lane of the round-about and driving at 20-30km/h at that point of time. "To avoid the accident, my only choice was to swerve left to avoid collision.I could not brake too as there were cars behind me. "The worst thing was that the PRCs driving the lorry refused to admit their mistake! They even aggressively shouted and pointed fingers denying their mistake. "They refused to exchange driver license particulars and refused to let me take photos of them. " When I spoke to their boss over the phone the boss said his hands were tied as he was not at the scene and his workers denied any mistakes. "He even told me to understand that his workers are lowly paid. I was so angry, and I told him off that being lowly paid does not mean that they can shirk off their responsibility! "As there was no vehicle collision involved or any human injuries, there was no way for me to make an accident claim. "I've also checked with AIG on whether I can make a claim against them, but to no avail since they can deny it as there was no damage to their vehicle. "The insurance people told me that I was just plain unlucky. "Final damage had to be borned by me. I'm glad that my workshop was there to provide swift repairs and lend me a spare wheel for me to drive to other workshops. My steering arm also had to be replaced! "I have photos of those PRCs (one with them pointing aggressively when I took the photos) and the lorry license plate. Thinking of emailing STOMP to voice out these irresponsible and dangerous PRC workers! "Since I can't claim them and it is not worth claiming my own insurance, I shall air their dirty laundry in public. "May I have the support from other fellow road users? "
  11. hello comrades, just curious to find out your action when you had an accident with someone who had been drinking, regardless how tipsy he/she is. scenario you just had an accident (regardless who's fault) with no party injured, however, you suspect that the driver had been drinking with smell of alcohol...... 1) should you call the cops ? this step will put the driver in jail & his insurance company will not compensate you because he drink drives. civil sue follows. 2) take down particulars & report to own insurance companies within 24hrs ? this step will give him the chance to deny his drink driving & there will be a case. 3) threaten to call the cops & ask for monetary compensation ? this step will put you at risk for not reporting within 24hrs....especially so IF he decided to report next day when he is sober. 4) prepare a note & make him undertake all repair cost / compensation. both parties report to their own insurance companies....if he refuses to agree & turn violent, call the cops ? i have not mention who's fault is it at the accident because he who drinks & drives always on the losing end even if it is not his fault. appreciate your valuable input. thank you.
  12. Anyone knows what happened this morning about 7.30am?... i heard motorcyle hit police car at the junction, and then police cordoned the area.....

  14. This morning, on my way to jaybee around 1130am.. 'witness' a accident from my rear view mirror.. Saw a car turning out of its lane to the motorbike lane without checking!! 2 motorbike at its side.. One of them siam to the right and avoid the car.. The other motorbiker was not so lucky. The bike who avoid the accident stopped about 30m behind my car to catch his breath.. Could see him a bit shaky.. The unlucky one, i could not see coz the accident is around 250 - 300m away.. But i know the car definitely hit the biker.. coz the driver(a lady) and the passenger (a guy) quickly got out of their car.. A few other drivers near the point of accident also get down from their car to help.. Wonder if any bros here also witness the accident(meaning closer to the accident point).. I am too far away to see clearly.. And is the biker alright??
  15. http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,167510,00.html? Thought the major was wrong to headbutt the doctor, the other driver got off scot-free. If the major's wife had suffered a miscarriage, this driver should be charged with manslaughter. Hope she has learned her lesson and not think she is the 'queen of the road'
  16. June 10, 2008 SBS driver stuck behind wheel for an hour after collision AN SBS Transit bus driver was stuck behind the wheel for about an hour after he crashed into the back of an SMRT bus on Tuesday morning. The Singapore Civil Defence Force had to cut through the side of the bus with a power saw to get to him. The SBS driver broke a leg, while the SMRT driver complained of back and neck pain. Both were taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital. There were no passengers injured in the accident, which happened along Yio Chu Kang Road at about 9.45 am. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...79.html?vgnmr=1

  18. Imagine heading to work in the morning, thinking it was any other regular day. You arrive at your car and see it smashed. To add salt to the wound, the culprit has fled. This happened in STOMPer Eugene's neighbourhood. He was passing by this carpark at Block 49 Dorset Road yesterday morning (May 27) when he saw two cars smashed. "I heard that it happened in the middle of the night. The car smashed into the blue car, and the impact was so great that the blue car hit the white one too," he said.
  19. just had a minor accident this morning happened in a merging lane. i was on the right lane and while i was merging into the single lane, a lorry dashing from left and scratched my left fender. i horned and flashed him for several times but he did not stop and speed away. however i did write his vehicle number. the cost of spray is around $100-$150 from my estimation. i understand that this kind of accident is normally 50/50 case. am i right? not very sure about how to proceed. please advise...

  21. during lunchtime today, i saw a red altis, while parking head in, crashed into a benz with a pretty loud sound... the altis quickly drove away, leaving the benz with bad scratches and damaged clips of its front bumper, slightly dislodged. i rem the number plate of the altis and went for the lunch, thinking maybe the altis owner will leave a note on the benz... after lunch, i went back to the carpark but there was nothing on the benz (well, shd be normal right)... so i was pondering for 10 min between being a kaypoh or to mind my own business... in the end, i left a note on the benz to inform him the number plate of the altis and my contact number, offered to be a witness if the owner needs help... if you were me, what will u do? i'm just hoping next time if i kena this kinda sh|t, someone will help me too... heh

  23. If you are one of the 800,000 motorists in Singapore, take note of a new initiative that sets out new procedure you must observe from today. Launched by the General Insurance Association (GIA), it requires you to report all motor accidents to your insurer within 24 hours or on the next working day. It does not matter how minor the accident is, and the requirement applies even if there is no obvious damage to the vehicle. The new procedure is not to be taken lightly because not complying with it will result in penalties. They include the loss of your no claim discount (NCD) and the risk of having your claim prejudiced or declined later by insurers. Not surprisingly, motorists have had a lot to say about the initiative. Some say it will be troublesome to have to report all accidents to their respective insurers within the stipulated period. In the past and in the absence of penalties, many motorists did not report accidents when they could make a private settlement and/or there was no damage or injury. Recently, a motorist wrote to The Straits Times Forum page asking if insurers could find other ways of reducing their motor business costs rather than 'penalising' motorists with the new measure. Others wonder if motor insurance premiums could be lowered in future if indeed the new measure does manage to arrest exaggerated motor claims. Rising motor claims After all, motorists have been coughing out more over the years because of rising motor insurance premiums, which have surged by around 20 per cent from a year ago. This rise was driven by the mounting motor losses the industry had been experiencing. At a recent press briefing, GIA president Derek Teo highlighted the dire straits that motor insurers were in. 'For every dollar in premiums that we collected in the last two years, we paid out $1.20 in claims and other expenses. The current rising loss situation is not sustainable.' Last year, motor underwriting losses hit a five-year high of $103.2 million. Mr Teo attributed the poor results in the past two years to a price war arising from renewed competition since 2004, when the motor insurance sector returned to the black after an earlier slump. It had suffered 12 years of losses, which peaked at a record $120 million in 2002 amid inflated repair claims and runaway third-party costs. Given this backdrop, it is not surprising that the new initiative is backed by all insurers in Singapore. Here are some frequently asked questions about the new motor claims framework, and what the insurers say: Q: Why is the new framework necessary? It is a best practice undertaken by all motor insurers in Singapore, and provides clear and standard procedures regarding what to do in the event of a motor accident. When involved parties are forced to report their accidents 'fresh', the incidence of people lying and collaborating with repair workshops to inflate claims is drastically reduced. This will provide motorists with a better claims experience and help contain insurers' cost of claims. Q: Will the new framework translate into higher premiums? On the contrary, it will help to contain the cost of claims for insurers. And if claims are managed well, premiums should not rise. Q: Do I have to pay any reporting fee to the insurer? No. Q: What if there is no damage to my vehicle? Do I have to inform my insurers? Yes, you have to report all accidents to your insurer no matter how minor the accident is. This is the requirement even if there is no visible damage, or even if you have come to a private settlement with the other driver. This is because you can never be absolutely sure that the other party will not file a claim against you later. Q: Do I still need to report to my insurer if I do not intend to claim from any insurer or third party? Yes. Q: What happens if I choose not to report the accident to my insurer? Failure to make a report within 24 hours or on the next working day will affect your NCD when you renew your motor insurance. For private car owners, this means losing 10 percentage points of their NCD if they do not comply. For motorcyclists and owners of commercial vehicles, the penalty is 5 percentage points of their NCD. Not reporting will also put you at risk of having your claim declined later by insurers. Q: Will the new framework apply to all motorists? Yes, the framework applies to all motorists. It will be a policy condition that all motor insurers will enforce with effect from today. Q: What if I want to send my car back to my car dealer or favourite mechanic? Each insurer offers different types of motor insurance plans, some of which allow customers to use any workshop. You have to check with your insurer on this point. Q: Can I still use Idac (independent damage assessment centres)? The new framework does not spell the end of Idac. There is no change to the process at Idac, which is used by some insurers. Resolving disputes Meanwhile, drivers in disputes with insurers over motor accident claims now have a venue through which to settle them under a new mediation scheme. If your motor accident damage claim is below $1,000 and involves no bodily injury, you can file your complaint with the Financial Industry Disputes Resolution Centre (Fidrec) under the Fidrec-Nima (non-injury motor accident) scheme. The scheme was launched last month, and is expected to help settle cases more affordably and quickly than going before the courts. The scheme applies to disputes where consumers claim against an insurer that is not their own insurer. Where disputes are resolved through mediation, Fidrec's services are free of charge for the consumer. ======================== What to do after a motor accident If anyone has been hurt in the accident, call the police immediately. Otherwise, a police report should be made within 24 hours of any accident that involves: 1. Damage to a government vehicle or property. 2. A foreign-registered vehicle. 3. A hit-and-run incident. The parties involved should exchange particulars, including their names, identity card numbers, telephone numbers, addresses, insurers and vehicle numbers. If there are witnesses, note their contact details. If you have a digital camera or camera phone, take photographs of the accident, the vehicles and the scene. If you are sending the photos via a multimedia message, enter 97112758 and the vehicle number and date of accident in the following format: , . You will receive an acknowledgement SMS from the General Insurance Association Record Management Centre. Call your insurer's hotline for a tow truck or for further advice on how to handle the accident. Avoid all unauthorised tow-truck operators or repair workshops. Report the accident and take your accident vehicle, whether damaged or not, to the approved reporting centre (provided by your insurer) within 24 hours or by the next working day. Take with you the completed Singapore Accident Statement, which contains two forms, if you have it. You can also ask your approved reporting centre or authorised workshop to help you fill up the forms. Avoid discussing which party is at fault. Refer all communication from the other drivers or their lawyers to your insurer. Do not authorise any repair work without the consent of your insurer. 24. Was driving home on the PIE earlier when I saw the electronic signboard saying "Accident after Thomson Road Lane 1 4 closed" True enough there was a fatal accident... a trashed motorbike was at the island markings on lane 4 (where the merging lane from a side road to the PIE was)... and a motionless body lying in a pool of blood was right in lane 1... ambulance and police were there. I counted 1 taxi on lane 1, and 2 taxis, 1 van and 1 private passenger car along the road shoulder on lane 4 slightly further up... Sian man... always accident accident... fatal accidents involving motorcyclists are the worst... especially in the wee hours of the morning like 2-3am! Somehow I have a feeling the accident was caused by the taxi on lane 1....
