  1. I decided to go to a shop to do my 30k servicing for my 09 honda city. The person advised that my battery is 35 amp and recommended to change to a amaron. I called up Kah motor later and found out that stock is 40 amp. Question: What are the ill effects of putting a lower amp battery? Should I change it back to a 40amp?
  2. Was thinking of becoming more family oriented and switching to an SUV. looked at many including murano 3.5, Q5 etc... and it came down to X5 and Cayenne. In the end, i think X5 is a better choice overall. Anyone with experience of this car or a truly better suggestion, plse kindly advise/comment. Thank you Fellas
  3. Hi bros, Yesterday my ride's engine died repeatedly when it was idling. After re-crank also died. The idling speed keep dropping unless I stepped on the accelerator. Sent my car to workshop and they called me telling me the throttle valve needs replacement and will cost $600. Told me if replace throttle body will be $1200 (which is not needed). Just want to know from the experts if $600 is too ex to replace the throttle valve? Got carrot? Appreciate your response :)
  4. Hey guys... encounter a minor accident juz now... need advice from lao jiaos... i was driving along a private estate small road when this car was attempting to reverse out from his house (landed property). as i feel that he did not see me, i stopped my car. afterwhich, he stopped too. seeing dat he stopped, i proceed on. but barely passed his car, he started reversing again n kena my rear. my bumper was scratched on the right side, mud guard scatched and dented in, rim (brand new!! only a month old!!) and right rear door was scratched too... his damage worst but straight forward: juz change e whole bumper cos kinda gone alr.. he apologised and said that he tot my car had passed him alr (my lights were on). we exchanged particulars and his mum offered me to go their WS to get everything done.. e driver wants to report insurance, cos seeing his damage shld be quite costly.... i would say it is 100% his liability as he was reversing from house to main road (which i think against rules), n he bump into me after i gave way. but wat worries me is if report he insurance, would it affect my premium next yr? NCD?? if he does report insurance, do i need to report mine also? pls advice..... thanks!!
  5. Some months ago, in a very heavy rain . . . after turned into a single lane (2-way traffic) road from the main road - I was stopped by a van (merely less than 10metres from where I turned in). the van just stopped there, with no hazard light. I waited for >30 seconds, until the car behind started honking at me. I then made 2 long honks to the van, but still no movement. So I signalled, and overtook this van. Just when I passed this van, it suddenly moved and banged onto my rear passenger door, with a dent. I came down, despite the heavy rain to access both vehicles. The van driver agreed that we moved to a nearby carpark (<20meters) to 'talk', since it was a heavy downpour and cars behind started a jam. But the van just drove off. I waited for him for >1hour, in vain. I made a police report, followed by a GIA (24h) report. Since the damage is below my access, I went ahead for the repair w/o claiming 3rd party. NOW, I received from my insurance that the van claimed that I cut into his lane for the accident - a claim of S$4k! My insurance now seek my consensus to: A. Offer 50-50, this means I'd lose my NCD + hike in next year's premium B. Refusal: court case for a good 'fight' since both claims conflicts & leave to court decision What will be your decision? Constructive suggestion/recommendation please, thanks.

  7. Hi Guys, forgive me for the long story that follows : 1) Car goes workshop for some overhauling for 3 days 2) Car returns to owner, from what I know, battery out of car for 3 days 3) Headunit now works with no sound produced 4) Checked fuse and all arn't broken 5) Check voltage supplied to amps, all showed 12v. Before I took my car home, I highlighted the problem but its a Saturday night and its quite late, hence I took it back and tolerate for it for the moment before going back on Monday. I heard from one of the mech that some headunit need to do something to it to have sound if you take out the battery for too long, is this true? Mine is a pioneer headunit.

  10. Hi, am a newbie in ICE. Will be getting my ride soon and am thinking of going for active setup but with OEM HU as I do not wish to spolit the intergration of the dashboard. I am considering getting a processor (e.g. H701) and go active. But I will not opt for a sub as I also do not want to use up my boot space. Any bros can recommend a decent component speakers with amp to cover the range from low-mid to high as I will not be getting sub. Thanks for all advise.
  11. Taken from hardware zone Once in a while, a forumer will appear with details about his salary and expenditure and seek the advice of fellow HWZers about whether he can afford a car. The answers will predictably fall into four categories. (1) "Wah, you earn so much, can afford any car you like" (for any salary above $2.5k) This type of answer is usually posted by non-working forumers like students or those serving NS, who think that anything above $1k is a lot of money. (2) "I like honda civic type r because chio. u shld buy" This type of answer is useless for budgeting, but simply for +1 purposes. Again, this type of posting is usually by students or those serving NS. (3) "I earn $5k/6k/7k per month but still take bus and eat rice + tau you" This type of posting is usually by a forumer who earns a fair amount, but thinks he earns a lot and wants to show off how financially savvy he is. (4) "Singapore cars so expensive if I go live in USA/Australia/Europe/Africa/North Pole the cars are so much cheaper, women more beautiful, jobs plentiful and food is tastier" These are postings by 'politically aware' (i.e. PAP bashing) Singaporeans who seem to think that their job skills will allow them to migrate easily to other countries to work, when they don't realise that their skills can be done by a Chinese/Indian at twice the speed and half the price. However, today, I will answer this question for you once and for all in 5 easy steps. Step 1 Take your average monthly salary over the last 6 months and minus your average monthly expenses over the last 6 months. Note: If you don't know how much you earned or saved over the last 6 months, car ownership is likely to leave you in financial ruin. Step 2 Add car allowance (if any). Step 3 Minus public transport costs. Step 4 Do you have enough money left to maintain the car you are thinking of (car loan, insurance, road tax, petrol, parking, ERP, maintenance, upgrade budget)? Note: If you never owned a car before and you do your calculations and you think 'oh my god, this cannot be right as it is so expensive'. Congratulations, add 10% to your figure and you now have the cost of car ownership in Singapore. Step 5 If YES, you can afford a car FOR THE TIME BEING (assuming you are happy to reduce your savings by the same amount). Note: If circumstances change (change job, lose job, lose car allowance, get married, got baby, loved one falls ill and needs medical expenses), then depending on whether you can sell the car without having to come out with money, you may be financially screwed. If NO, you cannot afford a car. Sorry. Work harder or spend less, then maybe in the future can. Extra Observations 1. For young people with less life experience, please note that owning a car and being able to afford a car are two different things. There are many people who cannot afford a car, but still own a car. Most of the confusion young people face is wondering why their colleague/friend who earns $1500 can afford a car - the answer is they cannot afford a car. Either they have background support from family, or they are financially bleeding to maintain the car. 2. For guys who think that girls like guys with cars - you are unfortunately right. However, most girls do not know or care what sort of car it is, as long as it can get from point A to point B in relative comfort. If you are planning on buying a car for the main purpose of increasing your attractiveness to the opposite sex, a cheap and comfortable one will do - no need for a 'sports car' like a Civic Type R or STi. A guy who has an Altis or Sunny but can afford the occasional nice restaurant treat vs a guy with a STi but can only afford hawker centre or Mcdonalds - who do you think will be more successful in the game of love? 3. BONUS Observation Some people will read this posting and think that I am discouraging car ownership. I am not. I am trying to make sure that ideally, if you choose to own a car, you go in with your eyes open, and not get 'surprised' by your financial situation as time passes and reality sets in. MANY MANY Singaporeans (including car owners who post on this forum) do not 'pass' the test I have put in this posting, myself included when I first started work. Although I was making $5.5k when I bought my first car, due to poor financial discipline, I had almost nothing left every month. It is very unpleasant for a young person to realise that his financial situation is his own responsbility, but the earlier you realise this, the better it is for you. The stress you get from checking your rolled over credit card debt, overdraft and bills every month is even more unpleasant than trying to gain a basic understanding of personal finance. It is unfortunate that for most young men in Singapore, a personal finance lesson is paid for in the shape of a $60k depreciating lump of mental on wheels. If you still decide to buy a car even though you can't afford it, all the best.
  12. Hello All, I am working in the marine industry in a european company (A) with a local base in Singapore and a local management. Not long ago, my direct superior left the company to start his own business, and here comes his successor who was the same level in the organization chart as me. Way of management didn't change much, just the rank pulling thing start to appear. Now my ex-superior pulled strings for me to head to another company (B) in the same industry and at the same level of management. This company is from Europe but have a base here in Singapore also, but the management in from the HQ in Europe. ok, now for the headache part. As i have night classes, A allows me to have ultra-flexi hours (9~6pm, late nevermind if due to urgent matters, time off F.O.C, saturday can don't work unless got things to do). B have tighter control (8.30~6pm, alternate saturdays MUST go, if need do urgent matters must take leave). A pays me $XXXX, B pays me $XXXX + 40%. A is a young company at 4yrs old, B is established for almost 5 decades. B have a bigger organization as their backing and their prospects are good. But B needs to sacrifice hell lots of time in office most of the time up till 10pm at least including burn Sundays if necessary. Question is: Should i stay at a relax so-so pay job that can allow me to Facebook, MSN, play game, flexi-hours?? Or should i move on and try to juggle work + studies, but having a much higher pay?? Edit: those who know me, will know my age. Also, sorry for the wall of text.
  13. Any owners of above ride care to chime in about this car ? Plan to downgrade my Kimchi for something smaller and more involving.
  14. hi, went for cars viewing today, currently driving an opc. would like to seek some valuable advises on the following: car no: SJT XXXX, normal plate Registration date: march 07 OMV: $11 798 Transfer count: 1 Actual ARF paid: $12 978 PARF rebate amount: $9733 PARF eligibility date: mar 2017 QP paid: $5200 COE rebate amount: $3417 Total rebate amount: $13 150. lets say the car is selling at $30k. am i correct to say when i delist it, i be getting the $13 150? plus the body etc.. is there any hidden cost i should factor inside this $30k? i know the transfer fee and road tax. was wonder for a 3.5 yr old car, the car plate is SJT? i'm driving a 4.5 yr old car, my current plate is SGE.. and lets say if i opt this car to be an opc instead. am i getting the 17k rebate onto the $30k? i doubt so right.. even have is the pro rated of 17k over the balance of 6.5 yrs of available usage. or the opc conversation works like this: $17k - $5.2k (QP) / 6.5yrs of usage = $1815 rebate yearly. sorry, really clueless over such figures and stuff. yet don't wish to ask those salesman and been ripped apart thanks for your valuable input

    Leave advise

guys, i have sent in my resignation letter and will be leaving the company soon. As i'm still serving my required notice of 1 month, and i have 20 days of leave left, i have some questions. 1. if the company asked me to leave without the need to serve my notice by off-setting my leave, does the company still required to pay me the notice? 2. if yes, do they pay me the notice period only and not the leave that i'm entitiled to or do they need to repay me notice period + leave thanks in advance
  16. Looking at one of the advertiser selling a Korean smart entry system, where the car door will auto unlock once it detect a transpondent(keyfob) nearby. It will also auto lock the car door once the transpondent is away from car. As I just bought a new car, would like to have this smart key entry system for my car. The keyfob will remai in my pant pocket all the time while the car door unlock and lock depending I am near to the car or leaving the car. This keyless system plus a push button engine start/ stop would make my car like nissan or high end Bmw/lexus/mercs. I would like to gather some feedbacks from car owners who have installed and using this keyless cum push button system. Any comments and recommendation? Reliable? Or any weird and unsatisfactory operation experiences to share? Thanks.

  18. Hi all bros and sis, I need some advice for those experts in loan especially home loans. My loan due for refinancing soon and i have to decide the following: 1) SIBOR or fixed rate 2) Tenure. I am currently have abt $235K on O/S principal on my loan and currently a bank offers me 3mth SIBOR +1% for 3 years without lock in. I am tempted to take this as my current loan interest is 3%. tenure left 18years. My question is that should i stretch the tenure to 30 years again and maximise my savigings in CPF which will be gettign abt 2.5% where SIBOR +1% is only abt 1.6%. In this way, i will have more CPF savings in my oridnary account and earn more interest to offset the interest incurred on the loan. any experts please advise. Thanks.
  19. Hi Guys, Need some advise on this, my ride is a 3 yrs old proton savvy which i just got it for nearly a month. Everything about this ride is good but the FC is just not up to its standard. Currently running 12.5k/L, compared to reviews by others, it said this car could reach 15K/L at urban least. I managed to improve my right leg power, initially was only 11K/L Apart from this, at low speed, this car do get some jerkiness at times. Overall, it's still a good ride and best, cheap and fall within my budget. I'm thinking of going JB this sat if anyone is keen. Heard from my friend, there's a shop call extra that sells a lot of car accessories and doing car mod at just fiction of the price. Said to patronize by a lot of Singaporeans, as I'm new to road, wonder if anyone is going there. I can tag along. Back to my car, i wonder if i should do anything to improve the ride better. Like having an air filter, change of spark plug. Which said to improve pick up, performance and better FC. Pls give me some valuable views, last by not least, I'm not those speedster.. I just want a better FC and pick up. And most important, a safety ride.

  23. I went with my colleague to buy a car this morning. Paid $46800 for a 2007 July Mazda 3 luxury edition. Then after COE went up this afternoon he call my colleague says the loan approve but his boss not happy with the selling price. But he already sign the sales agreement and paid deposit. So he tell my friend to he will discuss with his boss about the issue. I check the agreement there is no clause that state selling can void the sales only buyer back out deposit will be forfeited. So my question is after GE money approve the loan if tomorrow he went down to sign the agreement how long they can disburse the money to the dealer? By right the loan approve my colleague sign the agreement and pay for the transfer, insurance, first installment can take car already right? Or still need to wait? Cos he scare the dealer not happy will do something nasty to the car before handing over. Please advice.
