  2. Y2010 June to be exact, Alfa Romeo will mark its 100 birthday in Milan. Although i am not an Alfisti, i always respect Alfa. Top auto names like Enzo Ferrari, Pinnifarina etc came from Alfa. i am sure that Alfa will build a centennial model to commemorate by next year June., i want to own one alfa before i leave earth for sure. Does any guy have info about Alfa's future models, beside DSG transmission? i better start saving...

  4. A beefed-up 159 prototype has been caught testing at the Nurburgring - and the Italians' GTA version is expected to switch a twin-turbo version of Holden's V6 for a Ferrari V8. By JEZ SPINKS. Alfa Romeo looks set to abandon a high-performance version of the Holden-built V6 in favour of a Ferrari V8 as the Italians' 159 GTA targets the Audi RS4 and new BMW M3. Our spy photographers have snapped a muscular-looking 159 sedan testing at Germany's Nurburgring circuit, and the thinly disguised vents on both the front guards and the bonnet suggest this prototype is powered by a high-performance V8. The flagship variant of the 159 was expected to be powered by a bigger-capacity, dual-turbocharged version of the Holden-built 3.2-litre V6 already included in the mid-sized Alfa's range. It seems, however, that the Italians want to jump into the upcoming battle of V8-powered German mid-sizers that by the end of the year will include Audi's RS4, BMW's M3 and Mercedes' C63 AMG. An Alfa insider confirmed the 159, which launched in Europe in 2005, has a platform capable of accommodating a V8 engine up to 4.5 litres in size. And Drive.com.au's source said the V8 from the Ferrari F430 has plenty of heat to disperse, which would be aided by the multiple air vents. The supercar engine would be possible because Alfa Romeo sits under the same, large Fiat umbrella as Ferrari (as well as Maserati and Lancia). The Ferrari/Maserati joint-developed V8 has a capacity of 4.3 litres and in the Ferrari F430 produces 360kW of power and 465Nm. The V8 would be detuned for the 159 GTA, however, whose rivals (RS4 and M3) both feature 309kW V8s. Mercedes has yet to release details of the C63 AMG that debuts at September's Frankfurt motor show. Another clue to V8 power in our pictures are the quad exhausts on the 159 prototype, which accompany typical GTA cues such as large low-profile tyres, slightly flared wheelarches, and side skirts. The prototype also wears a rear spoiler, unlike its predecessor the 156 GTA. Alfa used the 156 hot-rod to resurrect the GTA badge it used in touring-car racing in the '60s and '70s. GTA is the abbreviation for Gran Turismo Allegerita. Allegerita is Italian for 'lightened'. The 159 GTA
  5. Hi people, I am asking this on behalf of a friend who is thinking of buying a new manual car. Which car is better in terms of 1) maintenance, 2) value for money, 3) handling, 4) fuel comsumption 5) performance - the Alfa 147 or Golf GTi? Thanks in advance!
  6. Saw today's paper adverts........the Turismo Internazionale version of the Alfa 147 2.0L Twin Spark. Check out here: http://www.alfa147ti.jp/ fer specs, check out here: http://www.um.co.za/specifications/alfa_ro..._ti_(2004).aspx
  7. What do you guys think? Is it more worth it to get the Alfa Romeo 147 1.6l Manual($103k) or the 2.0l Selespeed($115k) The 2.0l comes with a really good Bose sound system(factory fitted, subwoofer integrated into boot!) plus Vehicle Dynamic Control, Leather Seats, and of course the more powerful engine and Selespeed. Sigh... dunno whether I should put out the extra money or not.
  8. Enter the Alfa Romeo MiTo . So beside the Fiat500 http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpr...abarth_500.html , the 'new' AR MiTo will also want to compete in the same category as the MINI. http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/autoexpr...romeo_mito.html "Say ciao bella to Alfa Romeo
  9. theres a 147 1.6 manual prefacelift on sgcarmart & it looks incredibly like mine which i recently sold to a direct owner. when i advertised direct sale at 55k, nobody wanted to buy till that direct sale. look at the price in carmart now. i wonder how they are going to sell it. anyway, i'm not sure why the owner let go, perhaps he was making a profit of 1-2k. that aside, im happy with the price i got. my point in posting this is for anyone who wants to check out this car, pm me with the car number just to verify its mine and i'll advise on its history. It's got quite alot of history to it!
  10. Ooohhh... Sooo... Niiccccee... Be right back. Gotta change my boxers.
  11. http://uk.reuters.com/article/companyNews/...6?symbol=FIA.MI I quote : "MILAN, April 16 (Reuters) - Production at Alfa Romeo's main plant in Italy remained partly suspended on Wednesday as union workers kept up their protest despite police intervention, said the sports car maker's parent, Fiat (FIA.MI: Quote, Profile, Research). Workers have blocked the entrance to the plant, in the town of Pomigliano d'Arco, near Naples, to protest against plans to transfer about 300 employees to another building as part of a reorganisation. The plant, which makes the 147 hatchback and the 159 sedan, has had to partially suspend production because the protesting workers have prevented trucks loaded with parts from passing through its gates. Fiat obtained a court order to have police clear the workers from the entrance on Tuesday, but the protest has resumed unabated. Fiat has also used a helicopter to bring parts to the plant, union workers told Reuters this week. Recently renamed after Italian philosopher Giambattista Vico, the plant had restarted operations on March 3 after a two-month shutdown for refurbishment. It employs about 5,000 workers, some of whom conducted protests on a number of issues during the shutdown. (Reporting by Gilles Castonguay; Editing by Andrew Hurst) " So , expect more delay on the new 159 etc... IMO , they should move production to poland to punish the swines. it would cut costs and improve quality.
  12. CTE lagi best...was behind this silver OPC altis and a red SFB alfa hatch ard 7+pm on the way to town on Tues. It was drizzling and the traffic was start-stop but the opc altis was following the alfa hatch a little too close. But what happened after they went past the PIE exit really takes the cake, the dumbass alfa driver came to complete halt on the extreme right lane of an expressway! A lot of pple behind me had to halt suddenly and after a few secs we began to filter out. (kind of dangerous to be stationary during peak hour highway traffic plus the road was wet) As i filtered to second lane and went past the 2 cars, the moron from the alfa got out and made his way to the altis and started yelling and gesturing... Not sure what happen after that but if some driver from behind took his eyes off the road for a second, when he turns his attention back onto the road, he will not be expecting 2 stationary vehicles on the extreme right lane of CTE during peak hour. Dunno what that dickhead was thinking but getting out of your ride on lane 1 during peak hour CTE to verbally lash the driver who irritated u?? Just think back to the prime mover mowing the civic on the road shoulder accident a few years back. If you know the hatch driver, pls ask him to go for anger mgt therapy and try not to repeat this kind of stunt, tailgater may be in the wrong but don't risk his life like that. If some twit slams into that altis from behind, the alfa driver is a sitting duck if the collision sends the altis towards him.
  13. At $180K, its not that gorgeous to me. I could get a Merc SLK or an Audi TT for a little extra. Review here: http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/review.php?AID=8 [inline 8_1_l.jpg]
  14. According to an article posted on Italian magazine Quattroruote, Fiat confirmed that its 2008 Junior (based on the Fiat Grande Punto platform and mechanics), will go in production in the first months of 2008 at the Group
  15. i know there's quite a few Bravo posts lately....but this commercial looks impressive. can't imagine what power celebs can hold. but damn it, Fiat owns nearly all italian anyway, so they can get their superstars to endorse. see the link- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M27j_RuXV1M

    Alfa's own DSG

From Autocar.co.uk : ALfa Romeo could soon have a dual-clutch transmission to rival Audi's DSG gearboxes, after the Fiat Group announced that it is working on a similar system. The new unit, called Dual Dry Clutch, has been developed by Fiat Powertrain Technologies. It's first in a series of new transmissions that will be rolled out over the next few years; a six-speed manual comes in 2009, before an automated manual in 2010. Fiat believes the unit can be used in B, C and D segments, which means it could feature on Alfa's forthcoming premium hatchback, the 'Junior', as well as Fiat and Lancia models. Like DSG, however, Dual Dry Clutch is limited by torque; it can't cope with more than 258lb ft, ruling out most diesels and all but the weediest V6, so further development might be required before it ends up on the sportier Alfa saloons. The market is set to be flooded with dual-clutch systems in the next 18 months. BMW is releasing its M DCT system on all M3 models initially, while Volvo's Getrag-developed Powershift is soon to feature on diesel C30, S40 and V50, and is also being lined up for future Land Rovers. http://www.autocarmagazine.co.uk/News/News...AllCars/230498/
  18. Today been to test drive both cars briefly. Below are my personal thoughts on the 2 cars. Exterior: Its something very subjective, but both cars have just what it takes to make me take a 2nd or 3rd or 4th ....look at them should I encounter any on the road. Interior: Both the Bravo's & 147's interior looks futuristic with very good fit & finish, instruments are very well laid out & designed for great ease of use, however, the 147's interior seems more sophisticated with all the sexy curves smartly planted within the car. The red speedometers & illuminators the 147 is simply wicked The drive: Road holding around corners is especially good on both cars, however, the Alfa 147 still feels moreplanted during aggresive cornering. Perhaps it might partly be due to the rims. The bravo is running on stock 16" steel rims as opposed to the 147's 17" sports rims. One thing I like particularly about the Bravo is the small turning radius. Perfect car for doing illegal U-turns The steering on the Bravo somehow feels lighter than the 147, even at speed . This might not be a good idea if you are those that likes to break the legal speed limit along NS highway. However, parking with the Bravo is simply Coming to road noise, this is where the Bravo really excels. The cabin is very well insulated against the road & engine noise. While driving at more civil speeds (or RPM The moment you slam on the pedal from 2500RPM onwards, the car will just shoot off with the engine pulling very lustily punctuated by a sweet engine note that is very similar to the 147, except it is not as bassy and before you know it, the engine RPM is already knocking off the rev limiter at 6000rpm ...a little too soon compared to the 147. Nevertheless, both the 147 and Bravo have very beefy and linear torque from 3000 to the redline range. Although so much has been said about how good the Selespeed is as it is being used in the F1 cars, I still prefer the good 'ol manual system found the Bravo (its 6 Speed!). Probably, I'm not very used to the paddle shifting on the 147 whereby it will take slightly under 1 second for responding to each tap with a slight jerk. Verdict: On paper, the performance specs for the Bravo looks better than the 147 as its max torque comes in at under 2500 RPM! However, as all the Alfistis know...The sting of the "serpent" is very deadly My heart will say "Give me an Alfa". My wallet would pull me back to reality and point towards the Bravo. Though I'd choose the 147 anytime over the Bravo, but it does not mean Bravo is inferior. Its just that the andrenaline sucker side of me will prefer the rough, deep & ecstatic note of the engine coupled with the wild handling of the 147. Perhaps, if I'm as blessed as some of the forumers here with a 6 figure annual salary, I'd get the very comfortable, executive & classy looking Bravo for commuting on the weekdays, blowing off pesky taxi drivers with the massive torque on tap, and the 147 for some weekend fun
  19. Anyone go down and take a look? The GT is less than 100k............
  20. Hi, think Alfa GT have been around for quite some time. But I really like the design of it, think it's timeless. Anyone knows about the actual selling for this car? The 1.8T-spark and 2.0 JTS model?
  21. http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_alfa_romeo_8c_competizione-1.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_alfa_romeo_8c_competizione-2.jpg http://www.supercars.net/PicFetch?pic=2003_alfa_romeo_8c_competizione-3.jpg Daniele Bandiera, President of the Alfa Romeo Business Unit, presented an exciting concept car to the international press this morning. It is called the 8C Competizione and it joins the other important novelties displayed on the Alfa Romeo stand at the 60th Frankfurt International Motor Show: the new Alfa 166 (also having its world preview), the Alfa GT, the new 156 and Sportwagon, and the GTV and Spider models with their recently revamped styling and features. Designed and developed at the Alfa Romeo Style Centre, this prototype will become a true brand icon, evoking a great sports car tradition of which the name is part. In the Thirties and Forties, the '8c' signature that returns here, identified the racing and road cars that were equipped with the new eight cylinder engine developed by the famous engineer Vittorio Jano. The term 'Competizione' on the other hand, is a tribute to the 6C 2500 Competizione, the sports coupe driven by Fangio and Zanardi in the famous Mille Miglia race in 1950. So '8c Competizione' is not an invented name, but a clear reference to Alfa's racing history. And of course the Alfa Romeo legend was created to a great extent by the victories its cars achieved on race courses all around the world. There were so many of them that alone they represent a long, fascinating chapter, made of men and competitive spirit, engines and cutting edge technical ideas. The protagonists of the inestimable human and technological heritage that is responsible for today's beautiful cars, full of character and, above all, capable of combining the beauty of the styling with the pleasure of driving them. Let us admire then the captivating, original lines of this carbon fibre 2-seater, and its extremely generous measurements: 1900 mm wide, 4278 mm long and 1250 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2595 mm. The body is given extra dynamism by the horizontal furrow cut into the side above the front wheelarch. In addition to this, the large tyres (245/40 - R20 at the front and 275/35 - R20 at the rear) and the powerful, muscular rear wings accentuate the impression the model gives of a strong, forceful personality. This does not detract in any way from the elegance of the lines that run smoothly from front to back, to the light clusters set into the integral bumpers. A stylistic balance that has its maximum expression in the daring design of the rear window that covers the rear and partially envelops the rear pillars. The front elements have been repositioned as they were on the most important Alfa racing cars of the past - the whiskers and shield are aligned at the same height - a decision of historical and evolutionary significance. But a rapid glance will reveal that the styling of the whole exterior is full of classical references, an ideal opportunity for a modern interpretation of traditional Alfa stylistic cues. For example, the front end recalls the former 33 Coupe Stradale, while the rear sports the characteristic round light clusters of the Giulia TZ. It is difficult to be indifferent to the 8C Competizione concept car, because it is the pure expression of Alfa Romeo's concept of the car. And with this new model, Alfa's stylistic language takes a further step forward. Compared to another concept car, the 'Nuvola', which also featured the shapes and surface treatment of the new Alfa Romeo aesthetics, the styling approach of the Alfa 8c Competizione enhances the brand's DNA with a modern hi-tech interpretation of the most famous designs in Alfa Romeo history. Nor can we forget that the Alfa Romeo sports cars of past and present all share a particular feature: the ability to thrill even the most experienced drivers when they take the wheel. And the Alfa 8c Competizione is no exception. Suffice it to say that under the bonnet lurks a 4.2 litre V8 (90) turbo engine with a volumetric compressor. This powerful unit delivers over 400 bhp at 7000 rpm and together with a 6-speed manual rear transmission, takes the prototype to a top speed above 300 km/h, accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometres in just 4.5 seconds. This engine commands not only absolute performance and outstanding peaks of power and torque (over 45 kgm at 4500 rpm), but also smooth, effortless delivery even at low speeds. The result is a car capable of exciting performance, that is perfectly at home on everyday roads and not only on the racetrack. The 8c Competizione combines this brilliant performance with extraordinary roadholding and the handling of a true thoroughbred. The merit goes to the dual wishbone suspension at front and rear, which ensures extremely enjoyable handling, combining the control you would expect of front-wheel drive with an exceptionally sporty drive and pinpoint response, which are particularly important on mixed routes. We must underline that Alfa Romeo chose rear-wheel drive on the 8c Competizione to support the exuberant engine and to deliver truly unbeatable emotions. Story by Alfa Romeo
