  1. Here we discuss how durable is your car ...... So far my 9 year old Latio super durable and long lasting and seldom gives me problem . I am the first owner and so far no major issue except replace radiator at year 8.5 , ignition coil at year 7.5 , front and back absorber at year 7 and air-con compressor at year 6.5 . The main problem in Latio is high usage of battery and mine only last less than 1.5 year , and recently I use Amaron seen can last longer ! My mileage now 210,000 km and all these while been servicing by TC . What about yours ?
  2. What is this VVTI gear? My toyota is 3 rd old, yesterday while driving suddenly the engine indicator light on. I sent to BM for checking and said is VVTI gear spoilt. Need to change at S$800 !!!. Luckily my wife I argue and they give free since I service during the warranty period and the car got problem after few days out from the warranty. IS the VVTI gear easy to spoil? The customer service said is due to poor maintenance. I told him that all my maintenance are from Toyota...he just keep quiet and say...aiyah sometimes it happened. Got like that meh?
  3. Heard from some ALTIS owner they do not know they are buying a made-in-thailand car ...
  4. Anyone change their engine mounting before? What is the damage? I called a few workshop, the price is in the range of $400 ~ $500. What is buy parts here and fix them in JB? If yes, which workshop in JB offer good workmanship? Thanks all sifus...
  5. Anyone can help shed some light on this? As of 26 May, Altis starts at $121,888 while Vios starts at $126,888. Historically, isn't Vios cheaper than Altis? https://www.borneomotors.com.sg/asp/ToyotaPriceListPassenger.aspx
  6. I am new here and I cannot post. Can any old bird help me post this? My car have this constant whooo sound, never heard before. Any suggestion and recommend reasonable workshop. Thanks
  7. My right side mirror was damaged. Cannot fold also. Left Right Up Down no problem. Toyota altis registered 2008 Anybody know where to replace / repair and cost? Thanks!
  8. Yesterday while i was at the mac at 10 Ang Mo kio Street 12 around 8:20pm, i witnessed an Altis (SKU 572U) reversing into the left side of the a Suzuki SX4 (SKB 4718X) and the driver of SKU 572U just walked away as if nothing happened into Mac with his female passenger. I do The front left side of the SX 4 was scratched and the left bumper looks misaligned. If any bro or sis out there happen to know the owner of SKB 4718X, please get him or her to PM me. I can be his witness and provide him the video from my onboard camera.
  9. Deregistering my red 05 Altis in 2 weeks. Wonder if any bros wanna trade/buy over any items. will try to upload some pics later but generally my ride is 1. Stock engine (no performance enhancing parts/devices) 2. Cosmetic wise, have spoiler, front lip, sports grill. 3. 16 inch black rims with red lining. Seen some curb wear Honestly speaking, any deal will have to be at my convenience and will very likely have to be carried out on weekdays in Woodlands
  10. Need to change tyres soon. Currently am using 205/55R16 91V. Any recommendation for brand of tyres suitable and what is the price ? Need tyres which are safe on wet road as 2 times my car "skid" in company's car park and it was very scarely. Between, understand that new tyres need to be 205/55R16. Is the 91V important or it don't have to be 91V ? Thanks in advanced.
  11. Been looking at the 2 choices for replacement. Seems 1.8 Civic can be cheaper than the 1.6 Corolla! Any issues that I need to be aware for the Corolla? What are its known problems? I heard the aircon not strong for Altis?
  12. Hi Need to change car battery for Altis. Appreciate recommendations on the battery (include AH rating), cost and shop for the replacement. Thanks.
  13. Is there anyone who can share with me the difference between the Civic 1.8 and Altis 1.6 - in terms of the drive and fuel consumption and etc... Intending to purchase a used car for short-term drive - around 2006 or 2007 cars...
  14. THREE new Japanese sedans are expected to shake up the COE Category A market when they arrive early next year, just in time for a recategorisation of the small car segment. The launches of the new Toyota Corolla Altis, Mazda3 and Honda City are likely to keep the Cat A COE premium relatively buoyant despite the exit of luxury models, which had been blamed for pushing up prices. Still, most dealers foresee at least a 10 to 15 per cent fall from current certificate of entitlement levels. From February next year, the engines of Cat A cars not only have to be limited in displacement to under 1,600 cc, but their power cannot exceed 97 kW or 130 hp. This means 42 models currently in Cat A are affected and will have to move over to Cat B (for cars above 1,600cc), including luxury rides like Singapore's top model last year, the Mercedes-Benz C180, and the BMW 316i. There will be about 100 models in the new Cat A. With their bigger profit margins, distributors of high-end cars were said to have driven Cat A COE premiums to an all-time high of $92,100 in January this year. The premium has since slipped to $72,609 now. "Next February should see the return of bread-and-butter models from those Japanese and Korean brands which have been priced out of Cat A for over two years," said the sales manager of a mass-market dealership. "There are many prospective upgraders who have been waiting on the sidelines because of high car prices and they should be returning to the market next year." He added that after the new rules kick in, he expects the Cat A COE premium to drop to the $60,000 level. "Also, with the loan curbs still in force, affordability is an issue when the COE premium is high. So when Cat A softens, we will see more people coming back into the showrooms," he said. But will the influx of these buyers keep the Cat A COE premium where it is today? "No, premiums should soften despite the fact that there will be strong demand," said the sales manager. "This is because this group of buyers is not in the same league as those who buy Mercedes-Benz or BMWs. While they are interested in buying a new car, they are not prepared to pay a high price." The general manager of another mass-market dealership agreed. "Those who buy our cars are relatively conservative," he explained. "The moment the Cat A COE goes up too much, they don't want to buy anymore. They can probably still afford it but they just refuse to." If and when the Cat A COE premium falls, what is stopping those buyers of small Mercs and BMWs from looking at the Japanese and Korean offerings instead? "Some of them may consider a Toyota or a Honda, but most of them won't," said the sales manager. "There is this thing called branding and prestige and for them, it does not include a Japanese volume model." The all-new Toyota Corolla Altis will, however, be a bigger and more refined model than the current one, which costs about $120,000 now. The exterior looks like the present Camry mid-sized sedan, while the brand new interior is said to be very roomy because its wheelbase has been lengthened by 100mm to 2,700mm. The 1.6-litre engine is mated to a seven-step continuously variable transmission instead of the old four-speed automatic gearbox. The Thai-made Altis has traditionally been Toyota's best-selling model here. It was the Republic's most popular model from 2002 to 2006. After dropping out in 2007, it remained in the top three until after 2010 as the COE quota contracted substantially. The model is expected to be launched in January. The new Mazda3 is slated to arrive in the first quarter of 2014 from Japan. This 1.5-litre model will feature the familiar SkyActiv technology, which combines efficient engines with a smooth transmission in a lightweight but strong body. As for the new Honda City, it is scheduled for a Q2 introduction here. It has a new platform and new continuously variable transmission (from a five-speed auto previously) but retains its existing 1.5-litre engine. http://www.stcars.sg/guides-articles/motoring-news/3-new-models-may-keep-cat-a-coe-buoyant/a/143457
  15. Not sure why, suddenly there is hollow sound.. when the speed hit 110km/h, the sound gets lesser.. anyone got any idea what's wrong, and any good reliable workshop to recommend? My car COE left 1.5yrs.. I'm in dilemma should I repair it or not? I step on the gas while parked idle and didn't hear anything even RPM go up to 3,000rpm or more..
  16. This is probably one of the more important head to head comparisons for this year as two of our mid-size sedan favourites come together for another round of battle. With sedans being Singaporeans' favourite body style, we decide which is the better car to own. With only 3bhp separating both of them, you would expect both to have similar performance. This was not the case as the Altis felt slightly livelier and has a better appetite for revs. However, the Mazda3 has a smoother powerplant and when paired with the responsive six-speed automatic, it still offers decent pace for most. While CVT gearboxes are known to 'slip' when asked to accelerate hard, the Altis's new Super CVT-i gearbox minimises the effect with good results. When it comes to the twisties, the Mazda3 is the clear victor with a nicely judged ride and a direct steering. The Altis fights back with better insulation when it comes to cruising at highway speeds. While not as agile as the Mazda3, the Altis is in a totally different league as compared to its predecessor, which had too cushy a ride. Inside, the Mazda3 scores again with its better fit and finish. Its impressive equipment, like for example, the Active Driving Display, the MZD Connect touchscreen system and its Commander Control knob elevates it into a higher class. However, the Altis still triumphs in terms of overall space. So which one is the better car? Read our full review to find out.
  17. I was looking at the price list for Toyota but can't the Corolla Altis listed any more. Is it going to be replaced by the Auris? Or BM is just waiting for the new 2014 Altis?
  18. Toyota recently launched their 11th generation Corolla Altis and it is a pretty well-resolved car. Since this 1.6-litre sedan category is such a hotly-contested segment, we thought it would be nice to have a second opinion of the Corolla Altis comparing with some of its closest rivals… Kia Forte K3 1.6 First up, our recent Sedan of the Year winner, the Forte K3. Despite being launched last year, the car still looks pretty darn fresh. No surprises given that the Koreans have been producing cars that are almost guaranteed to look good without burning a big hole in your wallet. At press time, it is almost 10 grand lesser than the rest while being the most well equipped. It also felt like it had the most room among the others. However, all is not that well when you start driving. Steering, while being the sharpest and most direct, feels slightly artificial. I wasn't too sure I liked the variable steering weight system also as I found myself changing between ‘Normal’ and ‘Sport’ every now and then. I couldn't find fault with the ride and grip level were as good as the rest. Volkswagen Jetta 1.4 TSI DSG Personally, I have always found the Jetta to be a handsome car. So it took me by surprise when I thought it didn’t look as sharp as it had always been to me when we parked the cars side by side. Having sampled the Jetta over quite a few miles couple of years ago, it felt good to be back behind the wheel of one. The chassis feels stable, steering reassuring and engine strong. Just like how I remembered. However, unlike then, age has ruthlessly caught up and the interior is starting to feel a little bland as compared to the other two. Not having much equipment on board hurts its scorecard too. Glad to report interior space is more than adequate and overall, the car feels a notch better in quality than the rest. Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 The Corolla Altis. I’m sure most people should have driven or sat in one at least once in their lifetime. I spent most of my teenage years in one and not once did it break down. It was never the fastest nor the best-looking but it was loyal and dependable. Coming to the latest one, I must say Toyota has definitely upped its game and gave it a great looking face. I would even go as far as saying the Toyota is the most handsome one here. Moving inside, the car has grown quite abit and build quality is much improved. Equipment levels are acceptable too. On the move, the Toyota is the quietest and feels lively. Comfort level is definitely on par or better compared with the rest in this segment. Its new Super Continuously Variable Transmission with Intelligence is also worth commending for not being like most whiny CVTs in lesser cars. If you have yet to read our comparison story between the Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 and its rivals, click here.
  19. Just wanna get some feedback from any bros who have tried the new Toyota Corolla Altis. All new exterior and interior seems good. Any other feedback?

  21. My relative just got license at 3rd attempt, after celebration switched mnid to car market, wants new car instead of 2nd hand, now narrow to 2, 1. Altis 1.6, $95,488, 122bhp/145Nm 4-speed (A) 2. Elantra 1.6, $91,999, 130bhp/156Nm 6-speed (A) In your valuable option??
  22. reported to traffic polis 16-nov-2012
  23. installed lowering spring last year, as expected the shocks gave way in less than a year. Anyway was testing was whether i am happy with the lower ride and sad to say i am hooked and will NEVER go back to stock. At this stage, my wife will kill me if i go back to stock .Already 2 ppl vomited in my car when on stock, my baby & my mother-in-law, not to mention a few near missed at low speeds!!!! due to the very very poor suspension setup...after lowering spring no problems at all. Dont know how they can sell the 08 Altis as a family car....maybe family boat but NOT a family car. IMO its one of the worst car available in stock (thats another story)..unfortunately no $$, so stuck with it. last few week have been hitting the speed humps and the road on carpark ramps. Already White Sands carpark, SingPost carpark and 2 HDB MSCP will hit the bottom even if i crawl over the slope. The lowering spring was good but its time to move on (the rear sag too low...only 1/2 finger). dont wish to go back to stock or stock height so what is the cheapest coilover? friend recommend GAB SS (do in JB). read also BC BR is cheap but cannot find in the marketplace (they only have BC V1). Have been searching internet but not much info cause i guess not many ppl with an Altis will upgrade their suspension (heck we dont even have a legal exhaust despite being one of the most common car on the road!!!).
