Dropped by the Czech Auto outlet down by Leng Kee today at the spur of the moment to check them out and here's the impressions I was left with: Crowded, as expected, as with any newly-opened place for spending money, shopping centre or otherwise. Neat little showroom with access to the rear where the test vehicles are parked. Model lineup quite like in the days of olde - Fabia 1.4 hatch and sedan, Octavia 1.6 Classic (M), Ambiente (M/A) and 1.8T Elegance (yeah, baby ! ). First impression from staff is friendly and rather impressionable - despite the obviously crowded show space, they were still very much on their feet and on the look out - so very unlike SOME nearby dealer.... While one could attribute this to the operations being new, I hope it continues this way. Initial reaction to showroom was that it was pretty cramped, but after doing the look-around, with the testcar holding area and all that, it didn't feel as bad. Also, it'll probably do fine after the initial hype-driven crowd dies out a couple of weeks (or maybe months) from now. Really wanted to try out the 1.8T (going for a shade below 120k) but figured I'd try my luck in the near future when the staff are less busy. Left with the impression that, despite the overall pricing being less competitive than in the days of olde, with the visibly more aggressive approach to the market (plus, the possible and proper capitalisation of the brandname's hightened awareness in the market) the Skoda marque could end up heavily overshadowing its Seat brethren in the middle to long-term. And maybe even end up nicking some deals from neighbouring Audi and Vee-dub. Which, for some people I know, may not be that bad of a thing. Here's to Czech Auto's success. And, oh, on a side note, the warranty on the Octavia is 2yrs/60, 000kms.

Anyone has any idea when these chaps are commencing operations? I have a few faults with the Fabia and would like to see if the new owners of the distributorship can honour the warranty of my Fabia which is only 1 year old. Damn headache during this interval since there is no agent support! My car already clocked 20,300km liao and will need to do the 20,000km servicing very soon liao! Doesnt pay to stick to the underdogs.

Create this thread here so that Skoda owners can share experience at the comfort of a closed group. Can post SENSITIVE things here too! I can blast them all I can here w/o the worry of slander or libel. Why? Because Czech Auto is also reading this forum!!! Sammo told me that.

I called John Ng, Czech Auto's Workshop Manager, this afternoon to enquire whether they will continue to provide the free labour for the 10K servicing. I was pleasantly surprised when he told me that they are planning to offer a free parts and labour servicing to existing Skoda owners as a form of welcome gift. He said that this offer will be published in the papers. Let's look out for the ad. I think this is really good news! When questioned when they will actually start operations, he said, officially it will be in early July. However, they are planning a soft launch early next month (June), especially to cater to owners with emergencies.

To those Octavia Classic owners who are toying with the idea of changing the lousy power window unit supplied by JTA (those with the controls mounted on the doors), please be aware of my experience. First of all, my Octavia is only 4-1/2 months old and the power window unit has already failed twice. With the current situation of JTA, I don't think they can help much. So, I decided to have the unit replaced at my own cost. I contacted Walter to find out which shops had JTA used since I was also concerned about having a shop with no Skoda experience dismantling panels from my car. Walter gave me the names of the only two they have ever used. 1. Koh Corporation located at Odeon Katong Shopping centre, and 2. Leader Auto located at Blk 844 Sims Ave. I contacted both to find out if they had a better replacement unit and what the cost was. Koh Corp quoted $220/- and Leader quoted $260/-. Naturally I decided on Koh since the make and model is the same and is cheaper by $40. I made an appointment with Koh to have the new unit fitted. BTW, he was 45 min late. Anyway, when he finally showed up at his shop, I requested to see the unit first. I was shocked when he pulled out a box that had masking tape all over. I then asked him if this was a new unit. He confidently assured me it brand new. When he opened the box, it was very clear to me that it was a used unit judging from the fact that none of the components had plastic wrapping and most of the wires were not neatly packed and the uninsulated part of the wire also has crimp marks. When questioned, he continued to assure me that it is brand new. My common sense was screaming at me to leave, which I did. Since I had already decided to have the unit changed, I visited Leader to see what they could do for me. On arrival, I asked to see the unit as before and this time around, I was presented a brand new box. On opening, all parts were still neatly packaged in individual plastic bags. I know for sure that this was a new unit. To cut a long story short, Leader provided good service and did an excellent job. The guy who did my car was called Francis. He was very carefully when removing the door panels and fitted everything back properly. He managed to reuse the door control buttons and the unit works very well. So, the bottom line is, if you are planning to have the unit changed, definitely do it only at Leader. The other Koh guy is definitely a crook.
